@Pixel And that's where upvotes are useful. Which, as I've been saying all along, is the main cause of my issue. If the community was well versed in Dota2, whoever was the first person to post a link to "Welcome to Dota; you suck" would have been upvoted through the roof. Because people are not and choose to downvote and place close votes without having a clue what they're talking about, we hit situations like this.

and, it's not that you're being victimised, or your subject matter is being victimised, the same rules apply regardless of what tag is assigned to the question

the same discussions occur, the same reopening and reclosing and reopening again, the same meta posts, the same chat discussions

the only difference here is you jumping in with "I know what I am talking about, you don't, so you're wrong" attitude

I would have upvoted if you had dressed it up so it looked less like an advert, I'm not alone in that fact, and you were told of the fact at the time and refused to do anything about it because you thought you were above that.

@badp So here's my biggest problem with that Dota2 question. Because people consider it "too vast of a topic/too localized/whatever the bullshit close reason was", now no one can find the answer. And so anyone who comes to the site looking for the best way to learn Dota2 is going to find nothing, because people are more concerned about incredibly arbitrary presentation than actually providing a useful service.

Q: Can I alter the Field of View?

In Far Cry 3 the FOV is pretty low, as you can see on the various official videos and screenshots that float around the internet. Since I suffer from motion sickness in games with low field of view (e.g. Dead Island), I need a way to alter it.

@BenBrocka Helba (Buster) is great at frontline combat. The Hume Hero (Vincent) is probably my favourite, since he has a ranged attack and can steal mana from killing enemies. He has some really good abilities for damaging enemies or defending the tower, but he has to return to the tower be able to use his abilities again. Juno (Elven) specializes in buffing her units (long range ones in particular) and modifying HP/MP regeneration rates. She's probably my least favourite.

There's one called 'Behemoth' you get later in the game that costs a ton of mana, but it can usually make it to the other side by itself. It and the Rhino unit both have really strong knockbacks too, which can be handy for keeping them away from your weaker ones.

@Decency I think what the downvoters are telling you is that if you spend the 3 minutes writing some filler text, you'll get upvotes. If you spend 3 hours arguing about it on The Bridge, you'll get downvotes. Right or wrong, that's the way it seems to work

@decency its coverage of that isn't the point.

If you're really all about helping people, write the 3 minutes of filler text, get the upvotes, and the answer that you think is best will then indeed be at the top

If nothing else, people will be more inclined to listen to what you have to say because it seems like you did your homework and know your stuff, rather than just 'read this'.

@Sterno My pragmatism only goes so far, and bending to stupid conventions is over that line.

Right now everyone's just circle-jerking over their own opinion.

That isn't real pragmatic either

"Dota 2 has a massive learning curve, so you'll just have to suck through it: the payoff is worth it. Since sucking ruins other people's games, you want to learn the interface, the general idea of how the game works and start playing against the AIs until you're more comfortable. Keep in mind that this is a teamwork game, so never try to be the hero. Every character has a role, stick with it and always try to fill the roles your team lacks. Buy items, and keep in mind what your main stat is, etc

If you don't like the way the community does things... there's not a whole lot you can do. I've tried.

@BenBrocka You can also control your hero 'freely' in the second game. i.e. you can run backwards and forwards. But it takes some time for your 'switch lane' ability to recharge.

Oh wow, Arel wars 2 is for iPad as well, definitely ditching the first game then
