I'm a member of administrators group on Windows 7. I need to run foo.exe from a Cmd or Powershell. The exe file requires elevation to work but the elevation is not specified in its manifest. Usually I have to do start . to open Explorer, right-click the exe and select Run as administrator. Is ...

specifically for manual webapp testing. hehe. it has the necessary user agent to get through our proxy (IE8) but it's based on Qt 5.1's QtWebKit, which is at least usable. and it automatically separates each tab/window into a new isolated session (no cache, no cookies)

Hi guys, anyone got a quick answer? ... my USB keyboard was getting old (space bar failing e.t.c.)... I replaced it - new one fails to install "driver" under windows 7... I reboot and it works fine in BIOS/EFI, along with Windows 8 setup (from DVD), but, the moment Windows 7 boots, it doesn't work... I don't want to go through redoing all the USB drivers (but tempted to install Windows 8)... just wondering if anyone knows a quick fix

as I understand it, he had two options: option 1 is to write essentially a JavaScript userscript to run in any browser and "automate" it to do user-y things like type into the text box and parse chat lines coming through and logging in (I wrote the logging in part in Selenium); or snag the HTTP(S) wire protocol via WebShark and push and pull those HTTP streams

@somequixotic I'm pretty sure the OpenID part can be automated, which leaves you with producing the SE cookie; which shouldn't be that much work. It's a bit more involved, but it at least ends up being more stable; unless well, the PhantomJS rewrite ends up with something useful. But as usual, you can't expect much from a "major rewrite" unless you wait for it to go through all the bug fixes they do afterwards.

@TomWijsman either way, if they significantly change up chat, both the raw wire protocol and the UI/DOM/JS will change significantly enough that a rewrite of whatever bot you code will be necessary, and IMHO it's much easier to automate the UI than the network protocol.

frankly it's amazing that wifi works at all, the resource (the spectrum) is so polluted, and low noise spectrum is a precious commodity... humans always being irresponsible with their finite resources, like oil... and then, we have the audacity to add whole new applications of the wifi spectrum in recent years, like Miracast, WiDi and increased bandwidth of Bluetooth 4.0

@Boris_yo if the internet connection on the WAN side of the router were, for all intents and purposes, "unlimited" transfer rate (or at least so high that it eclipses the router's max line speed for wifi), and you're far away from noise, you might get around 45-50 Mbps on a 54 Mbps router... closer to 52-53 Mbps on UDP IPv4 with large packets, closer to 45 Mbps for TCP, worse for IPv6

@Boris_yo read up on the impact of directionality and polarization on WiFi -- it can significantly attenuate a signal, and on some devices it's so bad as to make it useless when you hold it in certain orientations

@Bob true that! but we also have regulations here on the maximum output power of lasers long before kids pointed them at planes, and that's mainly a safety thing because of the radiation

you have to get a permit to operate a large / powerful laser and have all kinds of shielding and such

diode lasers aren't particularly powerful

(also, I don't think they emit ionising radiation? except maybe blue/uv ones)

@Bob unless you have millions of them combining their laser beams together into an increasingly powerful blast... if you ever played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (was it 1 or 2?...), they showed the internals of the Death Star, and basically it's thousands of moderately powerful beams (lasers, I guess) that reflect off mirrors and combine into one huge beam
