uhmmm :-) because latency does not determine an ammount of data, just the time it takes for all the hops. although latency can be tested with tiny data.
@soandos But it still has to get through each traffic jam. the one at the nic, the one at the router, the one at the modem, the one down the line. Even if say i was passing it down a PCI-E lane (major speed) all that traffic still slows the stuff on the bus, SOme.
@soandos I can do the test for fun, but i am pretty sure of the results. even pulling web pages and minor stuff while the speed test is trying to do its thing , bends the results a lot.
Also that IwhileO any of the things that are a one lane road. If i set to half duplex, i can get faster "speed test" but not reality. That isnt reversed :-) If there is only One thing going one way, on half duplex it is faster.
@JourneymanGeek Kelly been busy spreading her legs all over with links to her (as shown in profile) own website. Plus the software is not really free, it is probably baitware, where it says "free download" scans the disk, and then says"ok now you buy and we feex for ya" Like a whore :-) $50 actual cost of the software.
I add one little complaint with such software, showing me a bunch of file names, and saying you can recover them, doesnt always go as planned, it might recover "something" with a file name on it, but it may not be able to assemble all the clusters that the file uses.
Any ideas on how to stop the lettering on a new keyboard from rubbing off? I am about to replace my Microsoft ergonomic 4000 laptop which suffers from this and I am thinking of ways to stop the problem without affecting my typing too much.

Sounds like an infomertial " why at one time I used to buy cheap keyboards, and toss them out about every 1-2 years, Then i found "insert name" and i have saved more money by purchacing a keyboard designed in the 1980s . You too can save da environment and save money. For just 3 payments of 24.99 it'll be the last keyboard you ever own. (or the 2nd to the last)
There is a russian cumulation of hard drive failures data on the web. it shows that Hitachi drives are Top Of the Line. Hitachi drives have been lower priced, so i find me some cheap ones, and newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145475 the reviews show (again) worst drive on the planet. Whats up with that russian data ?
the old ones could get really hot, like a stack of them minimally cooled, i could not keep my finger on them. Minimally cooled meaning case flow, but no specific fan for them.
How do they do it :-) i have more drives than they have reviews (not really) and i have only had a fail or 2 in eons. and those fails were back in time

C is shortstroked partition, M is at the end of the drive and quite full, and defraged, so the only place that data can land on it is the end of the drive. test is done 2 times, but it is loose test anyway
@50-3 it is way more complicated than that, a more simple version of it would be better. This is raid 0 teams, split in arrays, and partitioned for every purpose they will have. Speed at the (teams) front, storage at the back.
If you put it up, it could raise questions, that , , , well its complicated :-)
the max is mostly only cache speeds. The Min is what counts for ME more.

-- More bad analogies : Its like when playing a 3D rendered game, If i get somewhere around 30-60FPS life is ok . It is when the frame rates take a dive >20fps in certian areas of a game that tick me off. When I look at a benchmark for a video card, I am more interested in the Min frame rate. Not some cute numbers for the high end.
Why even having fast CPU and SSD doesn't not speed that much Windows Update patches? It seems there's something else involved besides those 2 when it comes to updating. Maybe Windows Update does file verification through internet?

When deleting a large file, rm seems to be hogging all the available CPU and disk resources so that other program are hanging.
Is there a way to limit a programs - specifically a CPU or disk intensive program - effect on the system? Is there a way to limit its effect when deleting a large file?
I am trying to change the default Audio sound system to ALSA so it fixes some sound issues. How can this be done?
Am using 1.3.x branch from PPA which is much better than the 1.1.x and 1.2.x in every way.
@Bob it's not in the emulated environment; it's in plain text files in ~/.wine somewhere, I forget where... just edit whatever the registry file in ~/.wine to point to winepulse... now the trick of finding which file and which registry setting
@SimonSheehan an interesting way to see and download off of youtube is Jdownloader. Jd is a java based multidownloader that is supported by a thousand plugin things, the actual security of it I dont know for a fact. I can link grab the whole list of a youtube video and the person then can GUI see what is all there, and choose one or many to download.
@SimonSheehan I have used it for years now, it seems to be a community project, i use it "portably" with it all in its own hole. Just get it from the actual source.

@SimonSheehan uhh, one uses it for everything :-) youtube just happen to work well too. the linkgrabber section is where the sniffing results show, you can add a url, or it can snag urls from the Copy buffer. one you have sniffed out (really anything) then you select what you want of that, (i use right mouse click) and "continue with selected package"
The item is then shifted to the download tab, where depending on settings it either starts immediatly , or you push the play |> triangle and downloads begin.

@DarthAndroid making 100 connections at a time , checking for updates for itself. all things which i have to allow via the firewall.
@SimonSheehan you can throttle it with the speed stuff, but that has caused a Bug here, which others have reported . the error is something about the hard drive not being able to write. On that error things have to be restarted (if not resumable then restarted from scratch) It is better to just limit connections.
@DarthAndroid loggin in from a loose java program, un packaging stuff all over the drive, roboting its way around the web. Proxyfying, and refreshing IP.
@DarthAndroid well if it was a hackers tool, wouldnt it be cool if it could be evasive, get a new ip at will , route through the web different? Get new scripts from the web . Nothing out of the ordinary for a downloader.
But i would want to know if a program was doing that on my machine :-)

It sounds like everything there is 100% speculation on your part, and you have no clue what it actually does.
@DarthAndroid there is no speculation at all, on how some of the real viruses have acted, that the system misses, that the user probably put on themselves. Getting new scripts and actions from the web, and being used as zombies to attack things.

I log-in only through myOpenID but it is flawed. It does not work often and I think it might be ditched some day. How can I secure my SU account if this happens? Can I connect my SE, SU account to another authentication services so I have additional option to log-in?

@Sidar Maybe you need to apply Windows 7 search filter. I don't know the commands but I am sure you can find them on Google. Try keyword "windows 7 search by date".
