ahhh you guys are so far ahead of me on everything, I read just the intro of that gargantuan book. @bobble how did you know where to find that spellcasting is level 2 only?
@msh210 Sure :) A cantrip is a spell that is specifically level 0. Not only that you can cast it as many times a day as you like. It tends to be a minor magical effect.
oh
. . . there's enough new actual terminology to confuse me; also using informal terminology that sounds real will be even more confusing, I suspect
so, Clerics start out with either scale mail, leather armor, or chain mail. Scale mail grants 14 + Dex mod (max 2) AC. Leather armor grants 11 + Dex modifier AC and is light. Chain mail (heavy armor, so you might not be proficient) grants a flat 16 AC.
I think those numbers are with proficiency? Because I chose Scale Mail and they said I got AC of 14
lemme look it up
> Armor Proficiency: Anyone can put on a suit of armor or strap a Shield to an arm. Only those proficient in the armor’s use know how to wear it effectively, however. Your class gives you proficiency with certain types of armor. If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or Attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can’t cast Spells.
so basically you need proficiency to use armor well, doesn't give you bonuses
But then again, you get a +3, +3, and a +2 so that's great
When your character doesn't have a last name :P
Oh decided to call my wolf buddy "Fenrir", after the Norse wolf, but called "Fen" for short
He's been granted immortality and invulnerability by Sylvanus, but is cursed with unyielding cowardice. Runs away from every fight, and his howls and barks have absolutely no intimidation effect on enemies
Whispering to the spirits of nature, you create one of the following effects within range: * You create a tiny, harmless sensory effect that predicts what the weather will be at your location for the next 24 hours. The effect might manifest as a golden orb for clear skies, a cloud for rain, falling snowflakes for snow, and so on. This effect persists for 1 round. * You instantly make a flower blossom, a seed pod open, or a leaf bud bloom.
* You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as falling leaves, a puff of wind, the sound of a small animal, or the faint odor of skunk. The effect must fit in a 5-foot cube. * You instantly light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
I can make little puffs of wind for Fen to play with
I can also snuff out our campfire in a pinch without using up a spell slot
@bobble Inspiration is something the DM gives you when you did something really cool. You can spend Inspiration to get an advantage on a roll (meaning you roll twice and choose the higher number.)
@Sciborg Hm, what's a demonic god capable of sending like demonic spirits/wolves? Lolth doesn't seem like a demon goddess, more like a spider-y goddess. I need it for my backstory :P
> Orcus (Latin: Orcus) was a god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths in Italic and Roman mythology. As with Hades, the name of the god was also used for the underworld itself. In the later tradition, he was conflated with Dis Pater.
> Asmodeus, also Ashema Deva, is a prince of demons,[1] or in Judeo-Islamic lore the king of the earthly spirits (shedim/jinn),[2][3] mostly known from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, in which he is the primary antagonist.[4] In the Binsfeld's classification of demons, Asmodeus represents lust. The demon is also mentioned in some Talmudic legends; for instance, in the story of the construction of the Temple of Solomon.
Platypus, I do know you and I love you. But I do not want to be an asshole and kick a person out of the group when they have already made a character and committed.
basically you can divide people into "people 'borg knows" and "people 'borg doesn't really know", and not further, and from the first group it was first-come-first-serve
I don't mean to be hurtful, genuinely, I'm just trying to explain that I can't DM so many people and it would require kicking someone out which I do not want to do.
I DM two groups in real life and this one is going to make three, on top of working full-time. I have limits and i unfortunately cannot DM everyone, i am really sorry. it's just me placing limits on my time.
(Hm, I think it might actually be better if my favored enemy is undead. Fits better with the nature theme, though I would also want a favored enemy against demons. Gah, choices!)
Okay, I also changed my backstory a bit so that my elven village was a worshipper of Sylvanus, and it was arbitrarily attacked by a group of hellhounds and fiends
@Mithical You'll have to recalculate modifiers now that your ability scores have changed, but then we can discuss hitpoints and AC briefly before i have to run
