3:00 AM
They're all the 3-page versions, i think

With the form fillable PDF, you have to make sure to export it once you fill things out, otherwise the form boxes reset

Wait how do you use the fillable pdf
Ugh, "download blocked"

You have to fill out the forms, then export it - it doesn't auto-save the boxes

there we go, unblocked it
Coooool

3:03 AM
The glow of shiny new character sheets :P

Are we rolling the stats on our own?

I'll probably have us do point buy, for the sake of simplicity. Let me link you a calculator, hang on

Point buy?

(Sorry - I am dipping in and out of chat, reading lots lol)

3:04 AM
So, use that point buy calculator, and add to the stats that you want to be higher with the plus button. You're spending points
That way everyone has similar stats and it's easier for me to manage :p

How do I write down my spells? Under "Attacks & Spellcasting" , I presume, but is the a format?

Your spells go on the Spellcasting page of your sheet, and the bubble is for the spells you prepare each day.
Should be the third page of your sheet?

... mine is double-sided only
Maybe I should use one of those online ones

Ooh, my wolf cub can become full grown at level 3 to become my companion!

3:05 AM
Yup! Perks of ranger :D
@bobble do you want me to email you the character sheets as well?

(Was there a prescribed sheet?)

Yes please
Not Word, though

@Graylocke nope - i was just emailing them online versions of the standard 5e :)

Aww I kind of want to be hunter though :/

I will send you the form fillable one, @bobble

3:07 AM
Yeah, I like the hunter archetype better
I guess my wolf when it grows up is just all bark and no bite :P

Aww :P
The only reason I restrict it to non-combat is because at 1st level, it would be insanely good to have - if we level up a bit more it can start being combat

Yeah. Kind of sucks my wolf can't attack, but oh well
Maybe when I level up a little bit

I want to make sure the characters are balanced and no one is better than anybody else :P

I can't fill anything out?

You have to download it

3:09 AM
The PDF should have boxes you can click on and type in after you download it, yeah

There we go

Make sure you export your changes when done so it saves properly

Oh btw my favored enemies are fiends

Where do I note the "Nature" thing?

I am North, demonslayer :P
Okay I gtg, but I'm really excited!

3:10 AM
Seeya :D
Wait, hang on - I have now realized that if you fill out the boxes and then export/download, it still doesn't save your changes?? uh-oh
hang on, i gotta figure out how to do that
VERY IMPORTANT: If using the form fillable, follow these steps to save: wikihow.com/Save-a-Fillable-PDF-on-Google-Chrome

bai! :)

@bobble Nature Domain goes under your powers and features

where is that?

First page bottom right box, "Features & Traits"

I'm sorry if I'm being a complete noob

3:15 AM
Note down that you're a Nature Domain cleric with the domain spells i gave you, and you have that "Acolyte of Nature" power :)
no worries!

which stats would be important for me?

You're doing a Cleric, so Wisdom is most important, followed by Strength and Constitution.
But it also depends on how you want to flavor your character

?
I don't think I have good people skills

Looks good! how many points do you have left? did you use them all?

yep, 27/27

3:21 AM
You are definitely not gonna be a people person, but that's okay :P

So I can be a support character who people don't always want around

hehe

that's going to work out

I am like your polar opposite ^^;

3:22 AM
It doesn't affect your RPing at all, so no worries

I was going to also have really low charisma

It's fine - I have to have high CHA

Did you see my very important note about how to save the PDFs?

Okay, good - i didn't want you to lose the sheet :P

3:23 AM
hmm, I'll bump mine at the cost of some dexterity

Have you guys brainstormed character names yet?

now I'm clumsy
Astrid.
the more dwarfy of the names I'm considering

What are Astrid's pronouns? :D

Mine is going to be Læraðr, but Lae for short

8|16|10|10|14|16 :)

3:23 AM
Sounds very elvish

they/them or she/her, both fine

@Graylocke perfect :D

Hm, what should my alignment be?

@PrinceNorthLæraðr what are Læraðr's pronouns?

3:25 AM
I'm taking notes on all your characters at the moment, is why I'm asking :P

anyone got a good last name?

My character will have real name that they don't really talk about and prefer to be called "Ink"

also what are the little ovals below the stat numbers for?

@Graylocke i shall write this down - what are Ink's pronouns? :D
@bobble The little ovals are for your modifiers :)

@Sciborg What do I need for my ranger class? Dexterity, strength, and...?

3:26 AM
con or wis

@PrinceNorthLæraðr Dexterity is your big one, Strength and Wisdom are good to have as secondary stats

Okay
What's constitution?

Con is good too, if you wanna be tough

Is that like defense?

3:26 AM
you get to scoff at me for being clumsy, since I made that an 9 stat

Constitution is how many hitpoints you get

Nah, I like my aggro build

@Sciborg not certain about pronouns :)

We'll discuss hitpoints and stuff in a bit

I've always seen myself as a chaotic person, so chaotic good it'll be

3:27 AM
Me too :)

I don't need charisma, right?
I'm tempted to min/max

Cha and Int are your dump stats
that is, you don't need them for anything, so you can min them :p

I want to be a bit autistic, so Lawful, and since y'all are Good I'll do that as well

@bobble do you know how to calculate the ability score modifiers?

3:29 AM
this different than the ability modifier the calculator shows?

Nope, the calculator gives you the modifiers
Looks good :D

Is everything on there as it should be? Can I just transfer that directly?

hey, you get +3 for a racial bonus

Transfer it and then add your racial bonuses.
Each race has a +2 to one stat and a +1 to another

3:30 AM
Ah

i only got +2

Unless you selected your race in the calculator, in which case it added them for you.

to Con

@Sciborg Oh, I already added my race to the calc

@bobble what dwarf subrace did you pick? that determines your +1.
@PrinceNorthLæraðr then calc did it for you

3:31 AM
oh i didn't see the subrace button

Now, hitpoints. Each class gets different 1st level hitpoint calculations. @bobble, you start with 8 + Con modifier because you're Cleric. @PrinceNorthLæraðr, you start with 10 + Con modifier because you're Ranger.

Hill Dwarf, since little hills sound nice. also those would probably be nearer to forests

So - Ink is going to be tall and thin cat folk that has snow leopard patterned fur that looks like someone inverted the greyscale on maybe a random 2/3 of them - like a paint bucket splash. Also the eye that is on the normal side is still a pale silver but the other is now purple. :D

3:32 AM
@Graylocke awesome :D will write that down

What's the oval for?

So much for archfey mark :D

Oval is where you put the ability modifier.

where do I put this 8 + Con modifier? which oval?

3:33 AM
@bobble This is your hitpoints, so it goes in the hitpoints box in top middle.
"Current Hit Points"

So can I know Sylvan on that basis?

ey, I got 24!

@bobble modifier, not score

Lmao I only have 20

oh

3:34 AM
@Graylocke tabaxi get a second language choice so that can be sylvan

Constitution modifier + 8 (cleric) or 10 (ranger)

Far Traveller too

So I only have 10 hp?

9 then

3:35 AM
Yup

I can heal 1d8 of you if i touch you

so literally 8 for me
I think

@bobble have you added racial bonuses?
to your ability scores, i mean

yes, +2 to Con and +1 to Wis
that's how both are 16

3:36 AM
What are your final ability scores so i can note them down?

what do I put on the box next to my skills

@PrinceNorthLæraðr which box?

The box next to the circles

What is the label on the box?

3:38 AM
Um...
nothing
Let me take a picture of it
Is that where I put the modifier>

Okay, so these are your skills.
Do you want to discuss those next?

You are a Ranger with the Outlander background, correct?

i don't have a background

3:39 AM
Okay, so
Each of those names is a skill you can be proficient in. The fillable box is the modifier you have for that skill. The bubble is what you bubble when you're proficient in that skill.

Okay, so what I thought

When you're not proficient in a skill, you just add the relevant ability score modifier, which you can see in grey next to it
When you're proficient, you add both the relevant ability modifier AND your proficiency bonus at level 1, which is +2.
Makes sense?

So, like perception would be +1+2?

Whatever your Wisdom modifier is, yes

3:42 AM
But as a Ranger and as an Outlander, you are proficient in some skills, which I will now explain

and same for saving throws

Yup
As a Ranger, you are proficient in Str and Dex saves.
As a Ranger, you are proficient in three skills of your choice from the following list: Animal Handling, Athletics, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival. And as an Outlander, you are proficient in Athletics and Survival.
So mark down Athletics, Survival, and three other ones from the Ranger list.

Ok
I already get perception from my race

All makes sense?

well, sub-race
Yup

3:44 AM
Awesome
I forgot wood elves get perception?

Unless I messed up, yeah

?

I would need to double check
Maybe I confused it

your Wisdom score increases by 1, you get Elf Weapon Training, and you get Fleet of Foot and Mask of the Wild.
there's nothing about Perception

No, it's under elf
All elves are proficient in perception

3:45 AM
OHHHH Keen Senses
i forgot - my bad!!! you are right
Mark down Perception
i haven't played an elf in forever, sorry :P

it's fine lol

And you did the Elf Weapon Training, Fleet of Foot and Mask of Wild stuff?/

Haven't wrote eveyrthing down yet

@bobble which part are you on?

What's passive wisdom?

3:48 AM
10 + your Perception modifier
When people try to Stealth against you, they have to beat that number

I went and found the traits dwarves get and am copying them down

i've been paging madly through the book this whole time :P

Hehe, my character is dumb and has no people skills
Where do I put my hp? There's like 3 different boxes

relatable
HP goes in the middle top box "Current Hit Points"

3:50 AM
(me in real life)

Okay, going to leave for the night

what do the two bottom ones mean?

See ya guys tomorrow :D

good night! :D

3:51 AM
I've already done the top one

"Dwarven Toughness" is a power you have, just write in your Features box (bottom right) - it will come up when we level up.
The middle one and top one are mutually exclusive so you've already done those

do I get 10 hp instead of 9?
or did you already apply that?

You get 10 HP, yup
Dwarves are Tough
And each time you level up, it just increases another +1

except I'm not combatty
I hide in the back and run out to heal people as needed

But hey, at least you're tough :P

3:53 AM
tough

RAM tough

so i need a background

We can pick your Background next if you'd like, that way we can do Skills after that

jinx

bobbly minds think alike :P

3:55 AM
okay, where do i pick from?

let me find an online list - there are a lot to pick from
this is a giant list of all the backgrounds in every book

that's a lot...

some of them are specific to different campaign worlds, though - ignore all the ones like "Baldur," "Dimir" etc.

how can i filter those out?

click "Filter" and deselect everything except Player's Handbook.
does that help?

3:57 AM
yes

Your Background also kinda determines your backstory :p so pick something that makes sense for Astrid/Name-Pending-Bobble-Dwarf

Acolyte, maybe? fits with going away for my nature domain god

That works :D
