Don't be mean @Dennis. We can hope. :P — RikerW 35 mins ago
Also @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ the background colors (at least for me) doesn't seem to go all the way: it turns back into the regular blue and white past the questions list
I'm not Dennis >_<
We should probably post this userscript on the meta thread
It's 3 AM and I can't sleep.
I'ma go play some Fallout.
@FlagAsSpam no
3:11 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How do I use this?
@quartata :)
play csgo instead
@FlagAsSpam install tampermonkey
then add this as a script
So, I'm trying to Google for information regarding binding actions to key presses and releases in the i3 window manager
all I'm getting is stuff about the BMW i3 press release
@FlagAsSpam I'm wondering too. I pasted it into tampemonkey but nothing in changing
@Calvin'sHobbies Try refreshing the page
And making sure TamperMonkey is on
@AlexA. Join the speky call
3:13 AM
It should show a little 1 by the extension if it is
@AlexA. plz does speky cawl
@quartata It does. There's a red square in the tampermonkey icon and a green (1) circle next to the favicon title. I did a hard reload
(using chrome)
I'm not sure whether to feel left out or relieved that I don't have to listen to a skype call where Alex rickrolls us all
still nothing. Do I need to mess with the settings? All I did was add the code, nothing else
@Calvin'sHobbies Hmm you shouldn't have to.
Did you add the header part?
That's important.
3:19 AM
The // ==UserScript==...? yes
Wait, now it's going!
There's no tamper monkey for Safari. :c
@quartata <3
3:21 AM
@AlexA. I'm serious too.
You are a good mod.
Don't let convince you otherwise.
@AlexA. Edit your wrongness out of the room tags. Have some birdly self respect
@quartata ;-; <#
that's capital 3
because that's how much I love u
@Doorknob Don't think I didn't see the transcript from when Calvin pinged me
what are you talking about
3:24 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Is it to much to ask to keep this up to date with the higher voted design ideas? :D
@AlexA. that link is... err... a 404?
@Doorknob ...
@RikerW :/
room topic changed to The Nineteenth Byte: General discussion for codegolf.stackexchange.com | Great minds waste time alike —PhiNotPi (no tags)
@Doorknob You know, your new avatar looks like a butternut squash when rendered small.
Someone else told me it looks like an alien eyeball
3:29 AM
It went from 6/10 very phallic to 2/10 fairly phallic.
Could unicode characters ever be animated?
Like a blinking eye
Maybe. But that's not the unicode standard at present.
I'm not sure how that would be printed on paper...
3:37 AM
@quartata @Zgarb @Calvin'sHobbies Skype wiff us?
@mınxomaτ What's up?
@Calvin'sHobbies That is also true
@AlexA. I'd have to make another account
too lazy
@quartata You don't have to. It's not like any of us would do anything malicious with any information we may or may not see.
@AlexA. This is very reassuring
3:44 AM
@quartata ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ <3
@PhiNotPi @AlexA.
@Doorknob @PhiNotPi @Sherlock9 @GamrCorps
which is more pythonic / idiomatic, w or x or y or z or any(w, x, y, z)?
@Calvin's hobbies I'd be happy to! When I have time, of course
3:48 AM
@cat Idiomatic? Not sure, but IMO the first is annoying to look at. :P
Good night
Good night!
I vote second way.
@AlexA. a or b or c or d or e or NotImplementedException or die
@cat #2
3:49 AM
@Mego thanks!
@cat It depends what w through z are.
if they're similar conditions, then definitely the second one.
@ThomasKwa they're all like isinstance(var, class)
@ThomasKwa Do you Skype?
If x doesn't make sense if w is true, then the first one.
@Mego ^^
3:50 AM
I do Skype.
Want to?
I also have the Skypes
there's a call right now!
We have an audio call going
3:51 AM
I'm hoping my medication gets here soon
/me squints
what do you skype about?
Everything and/or nothing
@ThomasKwa the function is actually lambda x: isint(num) or isfloat(num) or isstr(num) in that it should return True if any are true (why I agree any() makes sense)
@cat oh, probably the second one
3:52 AM
@Mego Cabbage?
I wish I could skype with y'all
Why can't you?
@cat lambda x: type(x) in [IntType, FloatType, StringType]
Why can't you?
3:53 AM
@Mego yeah, that's even better
@all you can send me a contact request phinotpi and I'll add you to the skype group
I should Python more
Dec 30 '15 at 5:18, by New Main Posts
@ThomasKwa You should Skype more
@Doorknob I'd wake my parents + my internet is too slow :(
I Skype much already
3:54 AM
@cat Oh. That's too bad :(
@Mego hmmm, interesting.
lambda x,*types: type(x) in types
@ThomasKwa Joooooooooin us
wtf someone already has the username quartata on gmail
3:54 AM
Why don't I get invited to Skype. D:
Who is this imposter
@cat There's this magical thing called headphones! But if you can't, you can't and don't worry about it
@quartata Probably Alex
@FlagAsSpam you are!
3:55 AM
how 2 get invited to chatz
@FlagAsSpam accept my friend request, well add you again
@FlagAsSpam You show up as part of the group for me
But not present
Again, my internet's too crap (at least right now)
I'll be able to next weekend if anyone else is/wants to
3:56 AM
Ah alright. See you later
@cat Same, but fine internet.
It's trying to load all the messages. D:
Boy. I sure have a mess of Google accounts now.
@quartata I have 10. o-o
I have my real account, two pages (one that was my old youtube account and one that is my new one) and another account that is the same identity as the new youtube account
@FlagAsSpam shit well played
> Welcome, quartata ducks
I feel welcome
3:58 AM
They're for different forms of spam. xD
Blue opinions?
A: Graduation Design Ideas

Calvin's HobbiesGeneral Principle/Color Scheme - Anything but blue All beta Stack Exchange sites have the same light blue design which I am kind of sick of, but it doesn't stop there. Looking at all the SE sites, I quickly categorized the non-beta computer-related sites as blue or not blue, based on their icon ...

Anyone wanna add me to the audio call?
@Calvin'sHobbies da ba dee da ba die
@Calvin'sHobbies NO BLUE
@Calvin'sHobbies Hm?
3:59 AM
Hmm. Considering how it's 4AM, I'm gonna hold off on joining the call.
@FlagAsSpam Wow
That's a very different timezone from where I thought you were
I'm overcoming jet lag of 7 hours right now.
Not well, might I add.
Oh and I also have my old university Google Apps account
So that's like 5?
Oh, if we count schools, too, I have 12. xD
@AlexA. Hm?
4:02 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies I thought you meant blues == mods. Idk. Carry on.
And the name quartata isn't available on skype.
Also me. >.>
@quartata Be quartatertots
Good enough
4:04 AM
Question: did I get us on the topic of site design or was that coming about anyways? xD
You've got to be kidding me.
I went to all that damn trouble
@quartata Skype stinks. We're trying Discord
@Phi I'm still not in the group
4:10 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Who made the zipperbracket image? @mınxomaτ? Well they should add it to the design ideas, it was good!
wait, is PPCG finally graduating?
@cat We're just hinting at the developers (and having fun making our own designs :)
@cat As soon as Calvin's manages to write an average of 2.1 more questions per day.
4:12 AM
@ThomasKwa We're abandoning Skype in favor of Discord now?
@ThomasKwa the pressure is on.
@ThomasKwa That joke has been made more times that I've made questions
@AlexA. What? I wasn't listening.
And I'm still waiting for my rep to double ;)
I thought Discord was a Discworld reference, or something.
4:14 AM
@ThomasKwa :P
@ThomasKwa We had been trying to recruit you to join us in Skype. However, we've moved over to some site/app called Discord.
Had to leave for the night. Pass my goodbye onto discord. @AlexA.
aww, did alex remove the tag in the room desciption? :(((
It had it coming though.
@PhiNotPi ^
@GamrCorps Context?
4:24 AM
Phi found another pyth language, so I emailed the creator for the interpreter
Vesty or Vitsy
@GamrCorps So there's a golfing Pyth and a not-golfing Pyth???
4:26 AM
^ spelled wrong
should stack underflow result in a magical zero appearing from thin air and being returned, or a fatal error? the magical zero could result in unexpected ZeroDivisionError...
@Calvin'sHobbies not that it really matters but... where's the blue in programmers?
@Calvin'sHobbies ohh, those icons.
5:04 AM
"1000 ways to not live as long" A new television series.
Eating a cheeseburger, choosing a car over a bike, etc.
5:15 AM
Come on and slam and welcome to CJam
It's chaos on the Discord server. I figured it was okay to give people permissions. I was very, very wrong
5:31 AM
@Sherlock9 muahahahaha
6:08 AM
So I kinda went all-out on the whole userscript idea
6:34 AM
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ I like it :) (Though I had to replace http with https in a one place)
Not crazy about the font. Seems too squished
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ up vote/down vorte buttons and badges..
@Optimizer I'll make those upgoat buttons and downgoat buttons if I can.
you want people to use the script or just want to get it converted to a meme?
@Optimizer some people might use the script but I don't have any other ideas for the buttons.
6:52 AM
@cat Note that in Python or returns the first True value, so 2 or 0 returns 2 and 0 or 3 returns 3. any((2,3)) returns True, whereas 2 or 3 returns 2. In most cases it won't affect what you're doing, but it's a subtlety worth bearing in mind if you want to use the return value for anything other than truth testing.
7:07 AM
Anyone happen to have a plaintext list of all the SE site urls?
@ՊՓԼՃՐՊՃՈԲՍԼ I like how Android calls your lang.
7:26 AM
For my future reference - SE site list: pastebin.com/raw/Aa4SK1gh
It doesn't have meta sites, but it should be easy to make one. To note, to note...
I mean, URLs of meta sites.
@AlexA. :D
@Calvin'sHobbies Weird, I didn't get that ping.
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Wow, I just realized it does byte counts of code blocks. Great idea!
7:46 AM
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ It measures every code block, adding scores for examples, for example (no pun intended). Can you limit the byte counts to answers?
What is our policy on expression bodies? I see many valid JS answers using anonymous functions like function(a,b){return a*b;}. This needs to be assigned to be executed. A similar solution in C# would be (int a, int b)=>a*b;. Would this be acceptable?
@mınxomaτ anonymous functions are fine
A: Should function literals be allowed when a function is asked for?

xfixThis is obviously a named function. def g(h): return h * 2 However, not all functions are named. This is an anonymous function, which is still a function. lambda h: h * 2 You may easily notice that you can assign the function. g = lambda h: h * 2 However, even without this, the functio...

Also, I like the new icon of @Doorknob Is he wearing a vectorize-and-simplify hat or something?
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Minor point: When a code block only has one byte it still says "bytes". And I agree that only blocks in answers should be counted. Or do I agree? Maybe..
8:16 AM
Q: New to coding! Just trying to get a few pointers!

Walter AcevedoHey so I'm new to coding and all & I'm going to start college in a few weeks, I'm going to major in computer science & my dream is to develop games & I'm just wondering if you guys can give me some tips, classes to take, books, videos to watch, or anything just to get familiar with coding and eve...

@NewMainPosts say: Feed him electric butter already!
@NewMainPosts say: No offense @mınxomaτ.

Q: Pronoun operation

Simone CheloThe challenge Write a function or a program that takes a string composed by one or more subjective personal pronouns, separated by a + symbols, as an argument. The output must by a single pronoun, that is the result of the relation defined in the next paragraph. Of course, feel free to edit as ...

9:37 AM
10:22 AM
With the current JS function golf update pushed, the "tally up char codes" challenge will be 61 byte!
Or even better, 59 bytes!
Anyone know, if there is a jed build for windows?
I'm at my parent's place for the holidays and I just got a call that my own apartment has been flooded >.>
There're over 10 PCs in there ....
11:14 AM
Q: A Yoda-speaking challenge, this is

Simone CheloThe challenge Well, I think it is quite clear, isn't it? You have to make a function or a program that takes a string as an argument and outputs the corrispondent Yoda-speaking. This is code-golf, so least number of bytes wins. The input The input could be any string. You can translate a stri...

@mınxomaτ Good luck with your apartment troubles, dude
12:02 PM
@Calvin'sHobbies Yeah, it was @mınxomaτ and he should.
hi all
any cjammers in?
I am not sure why any cjamers will ever be here..
not like we actively use cjam here to golf code
@Optimizer that's a confusing answer
no :P
if I can take over the conversation... codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/68176/21585 needs a cjam answer :)
12:08 PM
When has Optimizer ever used sarcasm. He's a dead serious person, you know.
so that I can then accept the pyth one :)
otherwise I will just have to conclude the cjam-people are losers :)
@dorothy It's because code-golfers loathe Perl, for the most part. — FlagAsSpam 6 secs ago
@FlagAsSpam I just replied to that
"But, but.. perl is incomprehensible, succinct and borderline insane. How could it be more suitable for code-golf? "
I feel perl and pyth could happily elope
Hellno. xD
I have a math-ey question... I could ask if any math-loving people are in but I fear @Optimizer's reply :)
12:14 PM
Wat be your challenge?
@FlagAsSpam did you read my entropy challenge?
that will make it easier to explain
@dorothy Yes - you bounced the original setup off of me, remember?
yep :)
so fix the number of rows to be 10, say and increase the number of columns. A naive method to compute the entropy gets very slow very quickly
the challenge would be to estimate the entropy to within 1%, say, using code that takes < 1 minute, say
and see how many columns you can get to
Rather similar, but alright.
(I mean, it's not the same, but...)
@FlagAsSpam I think it requires different skills
and genius :)
12:33 PM
O.O I've discovered that it is, indeed, possible, to make golfing libraries for AppleScript.
There's even an injector to Script Editor.
What is this? A well-made Apple-based language that functions well and is programmer-friendly? IMPOSSIBLE!
Also, an amazing Chrome extension: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/trump-filter/…
12:47 PM
Browsing the site now works on codegolf.xyz. Login is disabled for security reasons until I finish the OpenID integration and SSL. Not yet there: Meta and chat.
@FlagAsSpam That's wonderful!
1:27 PM
Q: Code kata should be added to Programming Puzzles & Code Golf

John A DurstonThe idea of Programming Puzzles & Code Golf is excellent. Putting-out challenges, submitting your take on the solution, receiving feedback. But it seems to be mainly code golf, and this then just seems to be a 'race to the bottom' for all the 'golfing languages'. These languages are great, but le...

1:42 PM
Might want to try The Nineteenth Byte, but someone'd have to let you chat explicitly (so ask Calvin nicely!). — FlagAsSpam 2 hours ago
@FlagAsSpam Is it possible to chat without 20 rep?
1:54 PM
oh I didn't even notice that cryptography got colours
can we please do this next year?
Q: Best of Code Review 2015 — Now Accepting Nominations!

200_successAs 2015 comes to an end, let's kick off Best of Code Review 2015! (or we could still do it for 2015 I guess)
I like that, I think we can still do it for '15
I'll get a meta post ready.
2:10 PM
it's happening!
and the chameleon cube is back!
happy new year, @Rainbolt ;)
Happy new year!
I ran 13 miles in the last 7 days. 2 miles/day except for yesterday because I had to go to bed early
Q: Best of PPCG 2015 — Call for Categories

Martin BüttnerAt the end of each year, our nemesis friendly neighbours at Code Review vote for the best questions and answers from that year. I think that is a great tradition we should steal adopt here as well, because it allows us to showcase some of the amazing content we've created and potentially reward t...

@NewMetaPosts Needs moar strikethrough.
2:51 PM
@Dennis No.
Well, kinda
The only way to do that is for a moderator to give you explicit access
So there's nothing Calvin could do, right?
@ETHproductions, @BrainSteel, @Mego, @yeti: got your time capsule entries
@MartinBüttner I'd be happy to write a challenge or two to honor challenge category winners.
@Doorknob Did my real time capsule entry get through (yesterday, I think)?
@trichoplax yes
2:58 PM
Yay :)
Are you seeing a lot of duplicate characters?
Haha yes
There's one that appears 8 times
@TimmyD: got yours as well
@Zgarb nice :)
3:17 PM
@MartinBüttner Why might <pre><code> ... </code></pre> fail, and let some of the line within it not get displayed, while <code>ing lines that come after the </pre>?
do you have < or > in the code?
use &lt; and &gt; instead.
ah right. that would do it.
@Dennis in fairness, in both cases the deleted word was what I first wanted to write.
3:35 PM
@dorothy Don't listen to him.
We love Perl
@MartinBüttner thanks for your comment on meta - I've edited my proposed category to make the extra rules statements rather than questions
3:56 PM
We're doing a "Best of PPCG 2015"! Please suggest categories for challenges and answers.
