@Cerberus What party?
Oh I thought you had some party or thingie.
Party for two, post-boys asleep, yeah.
I guess you could call that a party.
It ended the way most parties for me end.
@Cerberus If she looks good, why not.
@Gigili sorry to be differently weird earlier. I was unexpectedly waylaid. I promise to be conventionally weird from now on.
OMG, I missed @Vitaly being funny? That's worth swearing about. Fuck. Shit. Damn it.
02:03
@KitFox Sounds hot.
user19161
@KitFox That is called a triple curse.
@Gigili She does. But now she's gone.
@KitFox Yup!! He may have been just quoting a LW joke, but still.
user19161
@Cerberus She went to find me.
@Cerberus Hot enough.
@WillHunting Oh no, don't start with that...
@KitFox Ah! As in...?
Or just "hot" hot?
02:05
Do I have to post the Aerosmith again?
And the "Whoop whoop"?
@KitFox Ahh I didn't click it.
This isn't rocket science, my furry friend.
Excellent!
@DavidWallace Um. Hum? Thank you for the, um, I mean okay.
So you are smoking a cigarette now?
02:06
@Cerberus high fives
@Cerberus Yes, I needed to take a tablet, that's why.
@Cerberus I wish.
tries to jump up with paw in the air, but you know what happens
user19161
@KitFox I thought you quit?
I did, ages ago.
02:06
@Gigili Painkiller?
@Cerberus Antacid. ;-)
@KitFox Ah OK. But symbolically.
user19161
@KitFox Good good, bad for health.
@Gigili No shortage of ums here. Is your tooth OK?
Oddly enough, I feel like having a drink now. But I really must get to bed.
I have work in the morning.
02:08
You could have one small glass?
Nah. Maybe tomorrow.
If you're not susceptible to alcoholism in general, I see no harm.
OK.
I am just formatting my Bio lab now, @Kit. It's about five pages long.
user19161
I remember my teacher said her husband smoked and she commented "if it makes you happier, what's bad about living a shorter life?"
@KitFox It is not =|
02:08
@Mahnax That's good?
@WillHunting Missing my grandchildren.
Who I will be lucky to see as it is.
@KitFox Yes, it is.
@Mahnax Excellent.
@Cerberus Painliver? (Yeah, I made it up just now)
@Mahnax Do you feel good about it?
@KitFox Yes, actually!
I am quite confident.
02:10
That is the most important thing.
user19161
@Mahnax Good good. After IB Bio is gone.
user19161
@kit Happy April Fool's Day!
I don't understand what this is saying:
1
A: Computer crashes and freezes a lot

Psycogeekcommented: @gigili Quick interject here. On the overclockers site, they are finding that specific C states (standby states) as allowable in the hardware bios are not "as stable" If adjusting the OS power management to stay out of standby altogether is solving problems, Adjusting the allowable Cstates c2 c3 c5 c6 might solve it , and still allow for the system power mannagement. It can be easy to follow a "Guide" for specific boards, but I did not find one yet for that board. A least and quick move, would be to test with only C2 &or C3 states , in the motherboard bios.

@Mahnax Did you come up with some good explanations for why it didn't work the way you expected it to?
@Gigili "I am an IT person, so I don't communicate clearly."

user19161
@Gigili Wow you have 16 gb ram. I only have 3.3 for desktop and 2 for laptop.
02:12
@KitFox Yep! That PDF you got for me helped a lot too.
@Mahnax Great! Glad to hear it.
@KitFox That's it. I'm proud of you.
@KitFox Thanks again for the PDF.
user19161
How much ram do new laptops come with nowadays?
@Mahnax No problem, really.
Any time.
user19161
02:14
I think my 2gb ram means my hardware is ancient.
@KitFox I think it's their way of saying "get an expert to look at it".
@Gigili Do you know much about computers?
@WillHunting I have 4GB but I will upgrade to 8 soon.
The idea is that if you don't understand the advice, you don't have much hope of following it correctly.
@WillHunting 4 GB
user19161
02:15
@Mahnax How to upgrade?
@KitFox Not much, why?
@WillHunting Buy some RAM sticks and install them.
I'm not sure if I void my warranty by changing out my RAM, though.
@Gigili I think he is suggesting something that you don't need to even think about then. Unless you know some hard-core gamers or hardware specialists?
user19161
@Mahnax Ah that is something I have not done before. I don't think I need more RAM. I don't do video editing or software compilation.
@Mahnax You probably do. Get the shop who sold you the computer to add the RAM. It will take them all of about 2 minutes, and if you get some electrostatic damage, it won't be your fault.
02:17
The nice thing is, my question got two answers both using the semi-forum link, I'm not sure if there's something which sucks more.
@Mahnax Hahaha no comment!
@KitFox Ono, I know nothing about those.
@DavidWallace I wonder if the Apple people would do it (bought my MBP online from Apple).
@Gigili Well, unless you are interested in learning something new that messing with could mess up your computer, then just erase that comment from your mind.
Sometimes SE is nothing more than a forum.
02:18
Apple had a sale on their website, so I seized the opportunity.
What did you buy? And at what price?
Oh crap, look at the time!
user19161
@KitFox It is not that late.
Good night, fair hero(in)es!
refuses
Bye!
02:19
@KitFox Comment erased.
Talk tomorrow/later today.
Sleep well @KitFox.
@Cerberus Basic model MacBook Pro, $1249-$100 = $1149.
@Mahnax Do you have a local apple shop?
user19161
@Mahnax I think my friend got a new Windows 7 laptop for about S$600.
02:21
@DavidWallace It's in the big city, but it's worth the trip if we've got other things to do there as well.
user19161
I think Windows 8 looks very good. Those considering getting a new comp should certainly consider.
@WillHunting If I get a new computer, I will be building it, and running a Unix-based OS.
user19161
@Mahnax Hmm, I have not tried to assemble one myself. I think there is a wikibook on that.
@WillHunting I think it would be fun.
I could build a really fast computer for not too much money.
I hear it's cheaper than a pre-assembled model, anyways.
user19161
@Mahnax Of course.
02:25
@WillHunting I would want 8 or 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB hard drive, good graphics card, etc.
I might even run Windows on it and use it for gaming.
user19161
Those computer fairs here really have them selling like hotcakes.
@Mahnax Phone them first to make sure they're happy to do it. Some computer shops are funny about touching hardware that you got from somewhere else.
@DavidWallace Yeah, I always phone them.
@WillHunting Some of the W8 API is quite different from W7. Which means that I would expect that there's quite a bit of software written for W7 or earlier versions that isn't going to work in W8, or will work badly.
user19161
@DavidWallace This is new to me.
user19161
02:28
@mrs Happy April Fool's!
@WillHunting Same to you
@Mahnax Ah OK.
@WillHunting so I've been told. I can't give specific examples sorry. But I trust the person who told me; he's very smart, he used to work for Microsoft, and he knows a lot about the internals of operating systems.
@WillHunting I bought my friend a new Windows laptop with a decent dual-core for € 350.
@Cerberus How generous!
02:33
@Cerberus Did he/she come on to you afterwards?
@Mahnax Well, I collected money from other friends to present it at her birthday party.
@DavidWallace She's not like that, you know.
@Cerberus Ah, I see.
user19161
@Cerberus Wow, and you are not getting one for yourself! This must be a very special friend, a Maria maybe.
@WillHunting I only paid about 1/15 of it.
And I don't need a new computer, because mine is quite new (4 years old). It can still easily take anything you throw at it.
Except the latest games perhaps (except at low settings), but then I don't usually play such games.
user19161
@Cerberus Wait, it is 4 years old with XP?
02:39
The age of the computer and the OS aren't really related.
user19161
I would think that shops stopped selling XP installed ones long ago.
user19161
So maybe you installed it yourself.
I built the computer myself.
user19161
Or the shop keeps very old stock in general.
And I installed the OS too. Reinstalled it several times in between too.
user19161
02:41
@Cerberus Congrats! I need to try that some day.
Uhh ...
The only hard thing is deciding which parts to use.
But if you follow some list for a computer around your budget that someone on the internet composed, that's easy.
Then just watch a few YT videos about assembling a computer.
Oh?
user19161
Or maybe you can go the parts shop and ask around.
Nah.
02:42
These days building a computer is really easy. Almost all parts are soldered onto the motherboard for you.
Like which?
When I was a wee li''le lad, you had to install everything separately, and plus you had to make sure you didn't inadvertently create an IRQ conflict or a DMA conflict.
@Cerberus Like... just about everything that is built-in to a motherboard now used to be extra.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh, yes, no such things now.
Network, USB, Hard drive controller, floppy controller, sound card, etc.
The days of flipping jumpers on the ol' SB16 -- I don't miss those.
user19161
02:44
The dangerous thing is after getting all the parts you cannot build it and you waste your money.
Right.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 and then you had to walk six miles in the snow.
Sound Blaster 16?
yeah
@DavidWallace Yeah. Only I drove, because my town didn't even have a computer shop. It was 20km to the nearest shop
02:45
@WillHunting Then you bring them to a shop and have them assemble it for a fee.
Ooh, SB16... I had an SB-8 -compatible clone card. Not even a fancy 16-bit one.
My first computer was two rocks and a stick. I had to get them from inside Mount Doom.
user19161
@Cerberus Where is Mount Doom?
Back then my computer had RAM that came in individual dip packages and you had to put them one by one onto the motherboard in these little sockets
My family's first computer ran Windows ME and had dial-up internet.
02:47
@WillHunting Mordor
@Mahnax Yeah, that just proves how you're still a wee li''le lad.
user19161
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh I remember that is read like Morrrrrrrrdorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
@WillHunting you got it
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Quiet, gramps!
My family's first computer was my black-and-white Game Boy.
Seriously.
@Cerberus Oh, I had one of those. It was great. My brother had one too, and we could play Tetris against each other by using the link cable
I remember when Sega released their first portable game system, they made fun of the gameboy's "Creamed-spinach colour"
02:49
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Ohh yes, you mean the Game Link Cable!
I did that.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 It was more like olive green.
I spent so many hours on that thing.
There's a decent list of Internet April Fool's Day jokes.
user19161
Like sushi on ELU.
Ah shit, our beautiful sushi questions have all been deleted.
Childish.
02:54
@Cerberus Darn it!
sigh
Next year, we need to make this more epic.
Sneaky gallery chats on other SEs, etc.
We could all mass-prank another SE [2.0] site.
Google Maps Quest mode is the best
They even did street-view in quest mode
@Mahnax but that's what those nasty people over on Linguistics did to us this year!
@DavidWallace Pfft.
02:57
@Mahnax Hmm I like where this is going.
@DavidWallace Oh, not those people.
Jesus.
@Cerberus Me too. Or, we could plan a mass prank for a day that isn't April Fool's and have even more fun.
Like Greg and Edmund and Marjory.
@Mahnax Or we could just mass-spam the entire site all year round!
@Cerberus That's Uncle Greg to you, young man!
My apologies, uncle.
@Cerberus No.
02:59
No?
That's excessive.
Just one day.
user19161
@Cerberus Mah is older?
Pah.
@WillHunting What?
@WillHunting 'Tis a joke.
02:59
BRB printing.
Damn it's 5 am again.
I should go to bed, try to sleep.
@Cerberus You should move to the Eastern north american time zone. You seem to live in it in spirit already.
True.
But then I'd have to move to some place in the Pacific soon after.
Actually I should be in a moving vehicle.
Like a luxury space yacht.
@Cerberus Well you're not staying with me! Three headed dog!
Pah, as if I would want to.
I respect women.
03:01
unless you can chase the cats off my lawn.
I don't want to call them sushi all day.
I could, but I wouldn't.
@Cerberus Hey, whose idea was the sushi thing anyway?
Ehhh...
I don't have a computer, please help me out.
I only reported it.
03:03
@Gigili if you don't have a computer.... how are you in this chat?
You don't have a computer?
@Gigili How may we be of service?
Mobile, guys.
You could read a book.
She doesn't have a smartphone, I believe.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 I am fine, thanks.
03:03
She kept talking about iPods, maybe she has one of those.
(She's probably accessing the computer terminal in the loony bin.)
@Gigili er... I meant "how is it that you are in this chat without a computer"
When my son was small, he thought that "iPods" meant "eye sockets".
Haha.
Aww.
03:05
Anyway, @Gigili, what kind of help do you need?
@MrShinyandNew安宇 What kind of help do you have so I can choose one?
I think he can offer you anything you need.
@Gigili I dunno. You said "I don't have a computer, please help me out."
I think the toothache has affected my mind.
I guess I can offer advice.
03:10
Advice? Pft.
See a dentist tomorrow.
Besides that, what else could I offer? Oh, I suppose I could give you a computer science lesson, as long as Cerb promises not to look.
> See a dentist lemon tomorrow.
FTFY.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 The best offer ever.
Don't worry, I would sooner...I don't know what I'd do sooner. But I'd do it sooner.
03:13
It's enough for me to know you'd sooner.
@Mahnax Are lemons bad when you have a tooth ache?
I don't even need to know what you'd sooner.
Good, good.
@Cerberus Not sure.
Lemons > dentists, though.
I've never had an actual tooth ache.
Though my teeth hurt when I drink cold water and such.
03:19
The worst sort of toothache is one you get on a Friday evening. Then you have to tolerate it all weekend before you can see a dentist on Monday.
@DavidWallace You don't have weekend dentists in your neighbourhood?
A small number of dentists are available evenings and weekends, but then you get a wallet-ache.
"The worst sort of toothache" doesn't make sense.
They only have sushi in NZ.
@Gigili - was there a computer-related question I can help you with? I did offer several minutes ago. Or I can ask my wife (4 years of dentistry study) for tooth-related advice if that's what you want?
@DavidWallace Thank you, you're so kind.
03:24
However, reading your mind is something I'm still working on.
Actually, it's a wisdom tooth pain or something.
Do you still have all your wisdom teeth?
Not all, but yes.
I have them all.
Is one of them impacting its neighbour?
03:26
"Still" doesn't work in my case, seriously.
Wisdom can be a burden.
@DavidWallace I don't know, maybe.
If you're going to have them removed, I think it's best to remove them all at once. I had to take two days off work when I had it done (about 20 years ago); but at least then, they were all gone, and I didn't have to go through it all again.
Yes, that's why I prefer to wait and I don't go to dentist. It's about losing 5-6-7-8 teeth.
I was about to say toothes, yeah.
> Try chewing gum on the side where you're experiencing pain.
My dentist has been telling me to have them removed for years and years.
03:29
@Gigili Sometimes I find it difficult to tell whether you're being ironic.
"Sometimes".
If one is impacting its neighbour, it's best to remove it before it makes too large a hole, or pushes the neighbour out of alignment.
Right.
But until you can see the dentist, painkillers are your friends.
Are you able to get anything like diclofenac without a prescription in Iran?
03:45
Yes, I think so.
I already took 2.
Then I am just completely redundant.
Skype is getting worse with those new disgusting emoticons.
@DavidWallace You're just lovely.
@Gigili awww shucks!
(removed)
@DavidWallace yup
@DavidWallace it screws stomach
Yes, I know, but for emergencies and short periods of time, diclofenac can be really useful. It has certainly saved me, from time to time.
03:58
@DavidWallace toothache?
In New Zealand, you need a prescription for it, but I tend to stockpile it.
@Meysam Not me. Your beautiful compatriate.
@DavidWallace Thanks. very kind of you
