2:00 PM
To put it simply.

user19161
@Cerberus JSB is not religion. QED.

Mind/soul ≠ epiphenomenal.

user19161
@Cerberus Did you copy paste the symbol?

@WillHunting It’s just OPTION + =.

@Cerberus my original statement may be a little broad. there is a difference between the mind and the body, but it's false to elevate the mind over the body, and to claim that the body is of lesser significance.

2:01 PM
@WillHunting No, I have it under =// .
@JSBձոգչ Ah, I see.

user19161
@Cerberus As usual, many issues going on at once and at random.

user19161
Such is the profundity of this chat!

@JSBձոգչ But can bodies interact at all without minds participating?
Would it not be like brushing against a chair?

@Cerberus But can minds interact at all without bodies participating?

user19161
How did we enter this mind body duality thing again?

2:05 PM
this is kind of the point

@ЯegDwight Is there still a concept of flag weight? Does it order the mod queue?

@JSBձոգչ I'd say no.

showers

user19161
@Cerberus At least not for humans. There are realms of beings with mind but no body.

@Cerberus agreed. and this is my point: all things human involve both mind and body, and it is a mistake to take the former as primary and ignore or deprecate the latter

user19161
2:10 PM
One can only deprecate software like flash.

@WillHunting So you say.
@JSBձոգչ Well, most people would rather lack a part of their body, I think.
Although certain parts are off limits.

okaaaay... what's your point?

That perhaps it is not so strange that many people should consider their minds more important.

i'm not sure this is actually the case
there are parts of my mind that i would more gladly give up than most parts of my body
i think this is true of most people

Do you even feel that your mind consists of discrete parts?

2:14 PM
i think that the real problem is that the mind is more difficult to separate into parts

Exactly.
And taking away a "part" is usually seen as a degradation of the whole.

so the real problem is considering what the mental equivalent of losing your pinky is, and which you'd actually rather have

Memories are perhaps the only truly discrete parts.
And much of our self-awareness revolves around memory.

i can think of a lot of memories i would give up before i gave up my pinky

I'd be too afraid of the cascade effect of losing a memory. Who knows what else would go with it?

2:19 PM
@tchrist yes and yes.

@MattЭллен but you forget things all the time

user19161
@MattЭллен Well, I will never forget you!

@JSBձոգչ right, but I don't choose. The system works, but I don't know how

@JSBձոգչ Yeah, exactly. But would you give up any other part of your mind, if such could be done?

Good morning, campers!

2:21 PM
Look at these stupid "benches".

@Cerberus i can think of certain skills i possess which i would be willing to forget

Morning!

user19161
@ΜετάEd Hello!

user19161
@Cerberus How beautiful!

@JSBձոգչ Right. Perhaps it is rather that, when one normally loses certain brain functions, the seams turn out to be not so straight, and stuff gets ripped out that we do want to keep.
@WillHunting Seriously?
I just want straight benches, and lots of them.

user19161
2:23 PM
@Cerberus Yes. Is it a bus stop?

@Cerberus for the sake of argument, we should assert that we have a magical Memory Amputator (tm) which takes out memories without side-effects or complications

I don't want 9 stools or whatever instead of 30 seats on benches.

user19161
@JSBձոգչ I would like to forget many things. Even better, I would like to go back to the past and start all over.

@Cerberus and wooden benches too. not metal. wooden benches don't sap your heat in the winter

@JSBձոգչ In that case, sure.
@MattЭллен Agreed!
Or plastic, even.
@WillHunting Consider also that you can't sit next to your friend on those stupid things.
There is a reason why we have used benches for thousands of years, goddammit!
Modern designers suck balls.
Sorry.

user19161
2:26 PM
@Cerberus Consider how you can sit opposite each other and with no strangers beside you.

@Cerberus Not stupid. Can't sleep on those.

even Dinosaurs used benches

You know what they did in the public library here?
First of all they wasted millions.

user19161
@KitFox It's quite impossible to sleep comfortably on a flat hard surface. Resting with head on the table on a chair is better.

@WillHunting It's quite possible. I did it all the time when I was younger.

2:28 PM
Secondly, they made all the book cases so low that you can look around over their tops; as a result, hardly any book fit into the halls any more, so that most are now locked up in the warehouse, which makes you wait a considerable time before you can get your book. And you can't browse them.
@KitFox Another disadvantage!

user19161
@KitFox Maybe your boobs provided a natural cushion. :-)

I hadn't even thought of that, you can't sleep on those things.

@Cerberus I'm sure that's the point.

@WillHunting Manners!
@KitFox But why?
Beggars can't enter the station or they would have to pay.

@Cerberus To reduce the presence of itinerants.
@Cerberus Right. Sure. Because homeless people aren't really good at getting around that sort of thing.

2:30 PM
They will be there anyway if they have to wait for the train.

user19161
I know where all the homeless people here sleep, at the beach.

@KitFox It is really hard, and there is security.

user19161
The sand is nice and cushy.

And all but one entrances are closed off at night.

@WillHunting Here they apparently sleep in my car.

2:32 PM
I rarely see any homeless people sleeping or sitting at the station.

user19161
@tchrist Well, not too bad if nothing is lost.

shrugs Then they are probably nicer if you don't want to share a bench with strangers.

@WillHunting Peace of mind.

I'm sure there is a reason.

I think it is just design, I really do.

2:33 PM
yeah, strangers are weird. I can tell they think I'm weird.

The article mentioned nothing else.

user19161
Tis the season for reason.

user19161
@MattЭллен When they see your beard?

There is much more space on regular benches, so you can sit one seat away from a stranger with the same number of people.

@Cerberus Think of all that wasted space.
I am sure it is more than just "because they felt like it."
shakes fist at people like you

2:34 PM
When there are many people, the seats will be taken.
@KitFox Hehe.

@WillHunting regardless. it's just what a stranger would do.

Morning! Kisses for all.

@KitFox One would certainly hope so. But I have seen worse things happen here. Designers.

user19161
One should just stand at the bus stops if the wait is not too long.

grabs free kiss

2:34 PM
Like the library thing I mentioned.
Morning!

user19161
That helps to avoid the mosquitoes as well.

@MattЭллен I have yet to put up the new copy of my blag post, but will do so shortly. Please keep in mind that my added parts are rough. :)

catches kiss

@Cerberus are those mushroom stools meant for one butt at a time?

user19161
I have a huge butt.

2:35 PM
@cornbreadninja no worries. I won't be able to read it until I'm back home anyway. so in about 2 hours

@MattЭллен fabulous!

user19161
@cornbreadninja He likes em rough.

@WillHunting :O

se va

2:36 PM
So @cornbread, you coming to Writers chat today?

@cornbreadninja I think so; they look fairly small, and who would want to butt against a stranger on such a thing?

@Cerberus shakes fist

@Cerberus count me out. I was just verifying.
@KitFox I could do that

@KitFox shakes other body part

user19161
@Cerberus Which part? The banana?

2:37 PM
@Cerberus kicks body part Nyah.

@tchrist at last. It took me a month but here's your present.

I have more options.

@tchrist ça va?

@KitFox Ouch! That's not nice.
@ЯegDwight What the hell?

user19161
@Cerberus I know. The rambutans!

2:38 PM
1. Why is that funny?
And 2. why so many people?

"Why'd they do that arbitrarily? I liked the old way better!" <–Cerb, no matter what the new thing is.
2

Does the number go up as the site grows?
@KitFox That is absolutely true;

@Cerberus it's a bug. The MSO question is now deleted. Probably because it started with "Eeeek!".

@ЯegDwight What the hell takes that many close votes?
Start with eek, and it won’t close?

You have 10k on MSO? Then you can see for yourself.

2:39 PM
@ЯegDwight Martha's "Eeeeek!" got deleted?

No, don’t.

"Because it's not effing arbitrary!" <—Kit, no matter what the new thing is.

user19161
@ЯegDwight I have a diamond!

@KitFox "Why'd they do that arbitrarily? I liked the old way better!" <–just about anybody, no matter what the new thing is. [ftfy]

@ΜετάEd Yeah, but Cerb is the only one to bitch about them all in chat.

2:40 PM
@cornbreadninja No, una persona se va. Irse is reflexive in Spanish, means to leave. Me voy, I’m off. Imperative: Vámanos, let’s go.

@KitFox But I can immediately name several disadvantages, not to mention the waste of public money! They probably paid tens of thousands to this designer bureau, then hundreds of thousands to build these things across the country. Or millions. And then there is the inconvenience for travellers (blocked platforms, noise).

@Robusto that one wasn't Martha's eek. But yes. Er. Which planet have you been living on? Hers got deleted within a week, by JA Rule, and we spent weeks in this very room talking about little else. Yes, you too.

@KitFox @Cerberus no bitching about every arbitrary thing in chat.

@ЯegDwight Why is it a bug? Because so many people?

@tchrist k bai?

2:41 PM
@Cerberus You think it was a waste of money because you think it was arbitrary, when it likely was not.

@Cerberus Do you even know how many people it takes to close a question? :P

@MattЭллен Surely there are things you wish you could unsee or unknow. And didn't Charlie Kaufman cover all this in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

That was one fine movie.

user19161
@Robusto A terrible movie.

See. QED.

2:42 PM
@ЯegDwight I had that erased from my memory.

user19161
We have come full circle.

@Robusto Understandable.

@Robusto maybe, but they could be inextricably linked to things at the other end of the spectrum

Like my naughty checkboxes?

I think I knew it was closed, not deleted.

user19161
2:42 PM
I am sure you all know the worst movie of all time by now.

user19161
I have said it over 9000 times.

@Robusto I think the order on that one was delete then close, then delete some more, lock, purge all comments, delete, delete, and delete.

@KitFox I can assure you that arbitrary construction with public money is a serious and widespread problem here. There is a very popular show about it on television right now, about villages, companies, and schools building hugely expensive new buildings, even though experts say that they are broke and don't need 'em.

Apr 26 at 12:28, by Robusto
@JasperLoy Stop trying to live up to all our expectations.

I could go on.
Don't make me.

user19161
2:43 PM
Who remembers the worst movie? Who?

@ЯegDwight Rinse and delete.

@WillHunting Gigli.

@ЯegDwight Haha. Fewer than on that picture!

Plan 9 From Outer Space is commonly thought to be the worst movie evah.

@Cerberus It's a bingo!

2:44 PM
It's unnatural, that's what it is.

user19161
@ЯegDwight It is...Freeze (Japanese movie) where woman cuts up men she has sex with and stores the parts in the freezer.

@Robusto they haven't seen Daniel Der Zauberer, then.

user19161
In the end, she had to get more and more freezers as she killed more and more people.

user19161
What a sick story!

2:45 PM
@WillHunting it's AI, a film where noöne understand the concept of AI or technological or sociological advancement. Gods I hate that film.

@KitFox 4.7? You're out of your gorram mind. Mine has 1.4.
4.7 is stellar.

@ЯegDwight Have you seen Death Bed?

And German pensions funds partly fund these new offices, because the German government gives them some sort of bonus if they invest abroad.

@Cerberus So that's where all the closet space in Manhattan went.

2:47 PM
@KitFox I only watch crap movies. 4.7 is too good for my tastes.

user19161
@ЯegDwight You should watch Sommersturm.

@KitFox And yeah... I think I actually have!

@Robusto I thought every space on Manhattan was closet space, i.e. that everyone lived in closets, just as in good old Tokyo?

@WillHunting you should star in Sommersturm.

I would point out that Manos: The Hands of Fate is rated 1.5 on IMDB.

2:48 PM
You and your flatmate switch rooms every other night, so you can sleep horizontally every other day.

user19161
@ЯegDwight It is one of the best movies ever, seriously. I watched it a few times already!

@Robusto Which part of "mine has 1.4" you no understand?

@ЯegDwight Didn't see that. But obviously it is statistically insignificant. A rounding error.

A Tokyo apartment:
This is a luxury suite.

@Cerberus they should move to the Netherlands.

Yeah!

You have room for 6 million of them.

Why 6 million?

Yes, true.

Hey do you guys know that the British billion is the same as the American billion now?

user19161
2:50 PM
I only found out a few months ago.

@WillHunting no, nobody knows that, and that's why it's not true.

They are trying to convert office space into living space, which is scarce here.
But regulations and stuff.
Many squatters and anti-squatters in empty office buildings, though.

@reg I also recommend you La Mala Educacion.

You can have mala educación on my behalf.

@WillHunting >Christmas has changed so much that you only associate it with rice porridge and Donald Duck.

Why do people in Japan think they're dolls?

@Cerberus that would be China.

I searched for Tokyo.

And got China.

It's probably Tokyo.

2:53 PM
Hold the presses.

user19161
@Cerberus Even the site says cn.

Just because it's on a Chinese site, huh...

That's a 1.3 right there.

house.sina.com.cn sounds Chinese to me

Then it is hereby American, since it is now on an American site.

user19161
@Cerberus Practise.

2:54 PM
"Happy" is so typically Chinese.

@WillHunting Thank you, Non Sequitur! You're our hero!

All right, all right.

Stop pretending that you're every woman. That would make you Whitney Houston.
I think we can blame Reg for her death now. People just stopped pretending.

3:10 PM
I'm not voting to close that comment if that's what you want.

I am voting for you to start making sense.
@Robusto Whitney started it. The stopping pretending, that is.

I vote against Cerberus making sense

I said start. I never said not stop.

I vote against the whole thing

I vote against you.

You could have said "oodles of noodles that look like doodles."

Oodles of noodles that look like doodles were eaten by poodles.
