@pacmaninbw The code should be as portable as possible
@syb0rg I wanted to not say this but I had to
will anyone answer a chemistry question?
@pacmaninbw It's one of the project's main goals: github.com/syb0rg/Khronos
... therefore, the code shall be on stand-by in a drone, so that it can be deployed as needed.
"Is there a simpler/cleaner/faster way to do this?" - looks like Code Review is the better site for this. You could trivially do this using a List<Tuple<int, int>> and looping over that. — CodeCaster 44 secs ago
15:01
@Matix you could try asking, but I doubt you will get a positive reaction.
@N3buchadnezzar Oh, funny...
i have already asked there.
@Matix There are chemistry chat rooms for that
@Matix How long ago and what was their response?
15:01
no one's online.
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it belongs on codereview.stackexchange.com — ManoDestra 53 secs ago
So you came to Code Review for a Chemistry question?
Give it time. The SE network isn't an instantaneous service.
@syb0rg He must have felt the attraction.
will i be banned or blocked or something?
@syb0rg Maybe he wants his equations reviewed?

Q: What will be the equivalent weight?

MatixThis question is simple but I posted this because I am unable to do all sums similar to this.My answer is not matching with the one in my book.Please help. The question is: 4215 g of a metallic carbonate was heated in a glass tube and co2 evolved was found to measure 1336 ml at 27 degree Celsius ...

i didnt not get any response.
That's bloody 17 minutes ago!

Give it time!
An answer on this site takes about an hour.
ok.fine.
Say it takes them 6 hours to notice your question.
@Matix I asked this 18 hours ago... no answer yet: stackoverflow.com/q/38445776/1937270
15:04
Another 6 hours to decide whether they want to answer it.
And another 12 to find the time to volunteer writing an answer.
Zak
Zak
Plus, it's a "help me with my homework" question. Those are never popular.
Nope.
thats one complete day
Yup
@Matix Yes.
Zak
Zak
15:05
@Matix Yes. It is.
@Matix I'd hoped you'd notice that.
@Matix You could help yourself out by showing your work and how you got your answer
@syb0rg I don't know what's customary for formatting CMakefiles but a little indentation might be nice
# Library
find_library(LIBSNDFILE_LIBRARY
NAMES sndfile libsndfile-1
PATHS ${LIBSNDFILE_PKGCONF_LIBRARY_DIRS}
)
StackExchange is not really for quick answers, which is one of the reasons why trying to solve your problems yourself first is important
if i say that i have done it why cant't anyone believe it.
15:06
That's not how it works.
Because there is benefit to be had by lying? So there is a reason for you to not do it but say you did.
You expect someone to write you an answer.
@pacmaninbw Where's this?
The answerer expects you to show how far you've got by yourself.
I am just too lazy to write what I have done.
3
15:06
This prevents losing a lot of time.
@Matix In that case all the answerers will be too lazy to answer you.
2
Good day.
can we upload pictures?
Yes
it would be easier then
Then do that
look for this icon in the edit tab
15:07
Hello @nobe4
hang on
Zak
Zak
@Matix They have a Help Center
Welcome @nobe4
@syb0rg FindLibSndFile.cmake
All SE sites have a help center.
15:08
@Matix this icon when editing allows you to upload a picture
@Pimgd Finally we are back to talk about flags
thanks
@pacmaninbw That should be indented... I always lose the indentation when I copy and past CMake code tho
Cause I just copied that off of some corner on the internet
but if i use webcam the thing will come laterally inverted.
@syb0rg I downloaded from GitHub.
15:09
@pacmaninbw Are you running Windows?
@Matix paint has flip and rotate options
its useless.
i am this monkey.
On Mac OS X right now. I can switch to windows, I run it in Boot Camp.
@Matix please note that discussing how other sites work is not on topic for this chat room, for any extended discussion about this I'm afraid you would have to ask on the Chemistry site.
2
15:10
@pacmaninbw It should compile fine on Mac... if you wouldn't mind testing
Anyway, take an image with your phone or something
I haven't compiled Khronos in a while tho... I've been too busy working on LibSndFile
how will i bring it here.
mail it to yourself?
@syb0rg OK, will take a stab at it.
15:11
then download on your computer?
too much of work.
Then we can't help you, sorry.
Or upload it with your phone
Zak
Zak
Sorry, that was inappropriate.
The feeling when you are too lazy to cheat your own homework
15:12
Thanks @Zak
Zak
Zak
@Matix But seriously, if it's "too much work" to use the advice we're giving you, then go pay someone to do it for you, because sure as hell no-one's going to do it for free.
what do you mean by cheat?copy?@N3buchadnezzar
@Matix Please get back onto the topic for this room
@Matix the long and the short of it is that no site on the network is meant to do your work for you. If you do not wish to spend some effort to show your work so far, maybe you should ask your professor or study some more
I am leaving.
thank.
15:13
Alright
thanks.
I don't think he knows how to leave a room properly
@syb0rg Want me to take another shot?
Zak
Zak
Well, that was ... irritating.
15:16
@Mast For Windows? I know you'll get an error though
Windows, Ubuntu, whatever you want me to run.
I'll be setting up another system tomorrow of which I haven't decided the OS yet.
Zak
Zak
Sorry @Phrancis for losing my cool.
I used that gif today, I found it very fitting now.
@Zak No worries m8 I can't say I blame you
@Mast You could try a build on Ubuntu... you don't have to tho since I don't even know if there's a chance of it working haha
15:17
lol
Just ping me when you want me to take another stab at it.
@Zak I came close to ignoring him, something I rarely consider
I was this close from kick-muting
@syb0rg Want me to try it on CentOS 7?
@Mast There's a reason I have it labeled as "alpha" phased software 😉
@pacmaninbw How did the Mac run?
Everybody has been young and stupid sometime. Lets avoid ganging up on someone guys =)
15:20
@syb0rg Need to install CMake first, I did my other CMake stuff on CentOS 7.
@pacmaninbw Ah, well you could give it a go
I give it the most chance of compiling on a Mac
@pacmaninbw Do you have brew installed?
All I have on the Mac side is XCode.
I have visual studio on the Boot Camp side.
@pacmaninbw No MinGW or Cygwin?
@syb0rg Didn't even know about them until recently, I was kind of out of touch for a few years.
Downloading CMake on OSX now
@pacmaninbw With brew or manually?
Brew is the goto package manager for Macs
Like apt-get for Linux
15:24
Manually
Meh, either way get's the job done
Gah another downvote! It might be time for some drastic measures... I might even shake my first angrily in the air, and complain on the internet. Please excuse me for using such barbaric language!
@N3buchadnezzar What is it?
@JoeWallis ?
I just realised, that is a strange way to ask for a link. Do you have a link?
@N3buchadnezzar Napalmed
Plenty of upvotes though so no reason to complain. It just grinds my gear to receive unexplained downvotes.
Zak
Zak
Game on the radio just now: "Village or pokemon"
IMHO I don't like the LMGTFY and the links to images, that may warrant downvotes. I'm just reading it now, :)
What If I actual made a mistake in my answer, and overlooked a serious flaw? It would be much better to call it out then to leave an anonymous downvote.
15:31
@JoeWallis Yup, that's what I think as well.
@JoeWallis And that is a totally reasonable comment =)

Q: Smart pointer instead of raw pointer

shtkuhAfter reading this old article from 2001 I have tried to implement the class from it using unique_pointer. This is the version of class implementation from the article: class NamedPoint { private: float x; float y; char *name; public: NamedPoint (float x, float y, char *name) ...

It's condescending and not constructive.
As your code is already working it is probably better suited for codereview.stackexchange.comDAXaholic just now
@Mast Teach a man to fish principle
15:32
No.
LMGTFY is under no circumstance constructive.
Especially now Google uses filter bubbles...
You're trying to get your point across. The point is valid, but the method of bringing it could use some work.
@Mast I agree
The entire text is condescending.
I dunno RTFM always seemed to me more as 'GTFO&RTFM'
Yup.
Your links refer to Google. To a local version, not the international version.
That makes me wonder as well.
@JoeWallis Well the F part doesn't really make it any nicer either
15:36
I'm not a fan of this answer either. It's providing alternative solutions without explaining why they're better. Sure, they're a heck of a lot shorter, but in Python everything can be done on a one-liner. It's a beginner. Teach.
you could try should make warning bells go off in your head.
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because As your code is already working it is probably better suited for codereview.stackexchange.com — Matt Wilko 33 secs ago
@pacmaninbw How's the build going?

Q: A simple assembly program to count the number of ones in a register

AdHominemI made a simple assembly program to count the number of ones in a register. Since this is basically my first ever, I would like to hear what I can improve or if there are some major flaws in this one: #PURPOSE: Simple program which counts the number of ones in the edx register and returns them ...

Greetings @Donald.McLean.
@Mast Without getting into a too long discussionThe poster explicitly asked for alternative solutions. You have probably seen this meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/1463/… or that meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/2106/… or that.
15:43
@N3buchadnezzar Just because that's what OP asked for, doesn't mean that's what the community approves of.
A lack of up votes should lead you to investigate if anything is wrong with your answer.
Or the question.
you might be missing context:
OP knows about your suggestion.
@Pimgd I need the privilege so badly. Bleh.
Hence the lack of upvotes for both question and answer. However I still feel the question needs such an answer for future users who stuble upon it.
@N3buchadnezzar Quite irrelevant.
btw, CodeReview might be a better place for this question ... — Andreas Niedermair 23 secs ago
15:48
@EBrown wow you can't even see the deleted answer in the timeline
@Pimgd Nope.
Bah, this is going poorly.
@N3buchadnezzar I just finished reading it. It's really rude, it has some good points in there, but, be-nice.
@EBrown deleted answers in timeline is 10k rep. theoretically you should have it...
@Trojan404 I have 10K network rep, only 6.3k on CR.
ah that's why then
15:50
@syb0rg Only CMake available for download is for Darwin, I still have Snow Leopard so having problems installing CMake. Working on it, figure it's a good investment of my time, but will take a while, sorry.
@pacmaninbw brew.sh
I've got 17.8k CR rep, which isn't enough for the highest tier tools yet
I want dem stats
@EBrown there should probably be some distinguishable piece because one would think that certain privileges would be network based, not specific site based
This would not be a good fit for Code Review as the OP seems to be asking for help on how to do something, rather than asking for review of code which is already working as intended. — Phrancis 59 secs ago
@JoeWallis Hard to convey your intents behind words online. No ill will intended, and I will work hard to improve my tone in the future. Thanks for your honest feedback. =)
15:52
@Trojan404 All privileges are site-based.
@EBrown I know. Just saying that after a certain point, it can make more sense for it not to be :P
The only one that's not is chat flag handling, and Chat.SE only uses all the sites that use Chat.SE for the rep calc, not SO, etc.
@Pimgd those are not really much help
@syb0rg getting commandline tools for Xcode so that I can install brew.
@Vogel612 but I want dem stats anyway
at the very least I wanna delete crap
15:53
@Trojan404 I would think there would be a couple other association bonuses at certain milestones.
@Pimgd only 3k rep to go
The default is +100 across the network if you have 200 rep on one site.
2.2k, which at my current speed is like...
well, 2 and a half months or so
I'm probably just completely wrong here, but I feel like if you've put the time in to get 10k on one site, you should have the ability to be helpful on all the SE sites
@Trojan404 Not necessarily
A lot of high rep users on SO don't know what's on topic for CR
Well, that used to be the case anyways, maybe they're more educated now
15:55
@syb0rg Doesn't stop them from migrating garbage here.
I understand the reasoning behind why not, I just feel that they should at least have some of the permissions like to see deleted posts etc
This is kind of off-topic for SO. CodeReview might be a better fit...but check their guidlines first. — Paulie_D 51 secs ago
@EBrown Except getting notifications about flags. Got a russian one two days ago, on a russian exchange site. It was paired with a picture of a bunny and had 6 flags. Tried to reverse google the russian, but nothing offensive came up. Really scratched my head :p

Q: Barcode (Code 128)

VBobCatI wrote the code below to generate Code 128 barcodes, based on specs at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_128 Public Class UcBarCode 'Inherits UserControl Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click PictureBox1.Image = C128bmp("Teste123") ...

@CaptainObvious VB...blech.
15:57
I was going to try to answer this but after looking over the code and question I'm really tempted to vote as UWYA. It also appears that it's missing some of the code, the query uses variables that are not declared anywhere.
i didn't think it was hot today
and then i left my office and moved away from the air con
I have an airconditioned carrrr
but it has been sitting in the parking lot all day

@JeroenVannevel how are you finding the weather?
