Q: TLS encryption with a self-signed PKI and Python’s asyncio module

Stefan ScherfkeI want to enable TLS encryption with a custom / self-signed PKI for a self-contained distributed system built with Python 3’s asyncio. I’ve read Python’s ssl docs as well as several tutorials: http://www.area536.com/projects/be-your-own-certificate-authority-with-openssl/ http://datacenterove...

@Mast I was going to rent Interstellar, and watch it later.
And it's not an old movie either.

@EthanBierlein It's so darn longwinded, by the time you finished it you'll think it's an old movie.

@Mast Well, I like the longness of the movie.

@EthanBierlein It's not about the length, it's about being long winded.

god I love language.

9:02 PM
Meh. I really don't care about that.
You can't make me not love Interstellar.

This question is off-topic for broken code, vtc
Thanks @QPaysTaxes

@QPaysTaxes any reason you can't use integers instead?

@QPaysTaxes use an arbitrary precision number type.

You'd get floating point errors with integers?
What is Factor?

what on earth is that

9:12 PM
looks haskell-ish
I should really learn something functional..

@Vogel612 coffeescript is a gentle introduction to functional code... if you grab a library like highland or ramda
or just plain javascript

@DanPantry no js please

@Vogel612 I will convert you yet

Alright, TTGTW

@DanPantry I doubt that for a number of reasons...

Ah.

@QPaysTaxes Sssshhh, don't take away the fun.

You are typing an awful lot to be 'out'

Q: MVC Architecture Project

user3282568Trying to focus on learning so I can get an entry level position and the best way for me to learn right now is to have someone review and provide areas of improvement. A: Functional Programming Library in C#

Hosch250First, this Dictionary caught my eye: students = new Dictionary<int, Student>(); students.Add(1, new Student{ Id = 1, Name = "Blair" }); students.Add(2, new Student{ Id = 2, Name = "Esther" }); So, you have a dictionary where the key is already included in the ID if the value? Why not make th...

@Mast See you.

I'll leave you all with the following question:
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

He would chuck what a woodchuck would chuck if a woodchuck would chuck wood.

A: Writing data into an image

Ethan Bierlein First off, you seem very confused with your whitespace. In Python, you shouldn't have "padding" around the contents of braces, {[()]}. For example, the line, xrange( 3-len( pixel_data ) ) would become xrange(3 - len(pixelData)). Secondly, you need whitespace between your operators. For example, ...

Are @rolfl and @200_success not running in the moderator election?

Welcome to Stack Overflow. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the Stack Overflow help file, which will help you understand what kinds of questions are appropriate for this site. This site is intended to help you obtain answers to specific programming questions, as opposed to providing tutorial, design or code review assistance. — MarsAtomic 18 secs ago

@syb0rg @rolfl isn't.

true that ^^^

Now if I could just get 4 more votes on that answer...

@rolfl Why's that?

@syb0rg moderation is quite the time-killer

10:07 PM
Hmm... that's not the exact message Iw as trying to send.

Hey, @QPaysTaxes, you've convinced me to try Factor.

@Vogel612 Hence me not running lol

@janos Yep, did you look at my profile?

10:09 PM
@EthanBierlein I dislike stating absolutes wrt. naming conventions...

@hichris123 you got me :) (your SO profile, yeah)

Although, I'm probably gonna stick with Go for a while.

> Your naming is wrong.
better: Your naming violates the official Python style guidelines

Oh crap. I forgot to link PEP8

^^ true that

10:11 PM
Done

@QPaysTaxes I'd love to say it sounds familiar
@QPaysTaxes I was there ;P

Wow. I didn't realize that my question would explode with popularity.

preprocessor

@QPaysTaxes Assimilating Ruby into Python Preprocesser: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/95055/…
I had no idea that people cared so much about a Python preprocesser with only until and unless statements.

We don't really, we just like to vote.

10:22 PM
Of course, as pointed out in the answers, it has many bugs, of sorts.

Now, just be glad that I don't mistake the DV button for the UV button, like certain persons we know of.

Holy stars you folks have been active today

@SimonAndréForsberg the site's buzzing about the election

@SimonAndréForsberg, running for mod?

And you are suppose to run.

@QPaysTaxes Not a chance my dear!

I suggest you use codereview.stackexchange.com for this kind of thing. — tne 55 secs ago

Yeah probably. *sulks*

good
awsome, SO users educating other SO users about CR scope correctly
hell yea

@QPaysTaxes Soft....

10:29 PM
About time, I bet you get a silver badge for that with one more vote.
You definitely will (just checked post time).
Bother, I'm not meeting the 5+ upvotes per post the tag badge likes (to get the badge as soon as I get 80 answers) in C#.

I thought a bunch of people were going to run for moderator? where is everyone at?

I was going to nominate a bunch of people, but I can't.

@Hosch250 8 answers and 2 score missing for begginer bronze..

@Malachi Asleep, work, etc

Been working so hard
I'm punching my card
Eight hours for what
Oh, tell me what I got

I've got this feeling
That times are holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town

Now I gotta cut loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose

You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Deep way down in your heart
You're burning yearning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by

10:33 PM
you know I don't have any stars in here right? I tried to trick the star system by changing my name but it didn't work

@AshleyDavies Another unicorn? We must be at the end of the rainbow!

Hello! :)

It's almost impossible to leave you folks alone for five minutes without you posting 25 more messages!

I stopped by considering asking a question but was too shy :P

@SimonAndréForsberg We're just so bad, aren't we? :)

10:34 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg The elections has got us all jittery.

@Quill SQL Server (as in SEDE) doesn't support array variables

@QPaysTaxes I'm not sure this is about the question you think it's about...

@Phrancis Phrancis! Also yeah, I dropped it

What I would instead suggest is to put the tags you want into temp tables and just use joins

asking a question != asking a question ..
gosh it's really buzzing in here

10:35 PM
@Phrancis That's a good idea :-)

If this is what you guys are like now, I'd like to see what you are like just before it ends.

@Hosch250 I have the feeling it'll tone down by then

@Quill Of course it is ;)
Do you know how temp tables work?

@QPaysTaxes Asking a question here in chat != asking a question on the main site.

@Vogel612 It'll tone up again right before it finishes.

10:36 PM
@Quill I might run for moderator. Will probably wait until tomorrow at least before I possibly nominate myself, to see what other nominees there are. If you think I am too slow, remember that it is allowed to nominate others. (I would have nominated @Mat'sMug if he wouldn't have done it himself)

context is always important

Yeah, should do Phrancis

@Hosch250 depends on how the race goes

@SimonAndréForsberg It's not, actually
You can only nominate yourself

Yes, you can only nominate yourself.

10:37 PM
Maybe I should put up that meta-question now..

@LokiAstari Want to run for election? I was going to nominate you, but I can't.

elections are running since not quite three hours.

BTW, @Quill, I started categorizing some tags and making temp table queries for future use, you're welcome to help yourself to them: data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/325073/…

@Quill @Hosch250 Wait, what!? I've always thought it was possible to nominate others too....

Thanks :) I hope you don't mind; just hoping someone could give a recommendation for writing a pixel array to the screen in real-time to make a doom-like rendering engine (Mainly for personal desire to try out the maths & code behind it) but everything I find is dead slow and not intended for writing a lot of pixels. I'm comfortable doing it in any common language except functional ones.

@SimonAndréForsberg I also thought so
@AshleyDavies Similar to Q's suggestion: OpenGL

@AshleyDavies I'm afraid Code Review is for code that already exists, not for code that hasn't been written.

^^ that

Thanks :) I stupidly didn't consider OpenGL, went straight to looking for solutions in WPF/WF/Swing/etc - my bad, appreciate the pointer! Sorry @SimonAndréForsberg :(

ermph.

10:41 PM
what even is this...
Why is this the rainbow unicorn chat room all of the sudden

that's not necessarily true..
Swing is really really good at rectangles

Will anyone be too horribly saddened if I change my profile picture?

if you have a rectangle game, swing might be your tool of choice

@EthanBierlein No

@EthanBierlein depends on what to
@QPaysTaxes depends on the game..

10:42 PM
What

I just plotted @rolfl's user query
2 hours ago, by rolfl
Users over time: http://data.stackexchange.com/codereview/query/330349/usersovertime#graph

@Vogel612 I honestly don't know.

Games tend to use triangles...
You can build anything out of triangles.

Including squares.

10:42 PM
@EthanBierlein People might not recognize you.

As a linear
The R value is the accuracy to an 100% linear model

@Hosch250 Good point.

As a polynomial
with a more accurate R value

hmm... it seems there is a polynomial growth in site growth-rate then

When I was on PPCG, I changed my user name and avatar, and people didn't recognize me.

10:44 PM
c'mon captain!

the x value in the y equation above in measured in weeks since site inception

@Quill sensible measure, because that's when data dumps are updated...

@Vogel612 That is the measure, based off the data dump on the query

hmm... still waiting for cpt. O Stackexchange feed..

Q: Should we blacklist [programming] and [practice]?

JamalThe first tag has been recreated multiple times, while the second is likely a variation of best-practice, which was previously removed and temporarily blacklisted. They are about as useless as review and may still likely come back until the tag-creation privilege increases to 1500 rep.

I just submitted my nomination :)

No puns. I'm going to downvote @Jamal...

wow, Stack Exchange is really slow today.

My calculator says at 300 weeks past site inception, population will be at 98,842 people

@nhgrif Or you can just edit the title. ;-)

But you made it one post...

True, though it could've still been one title. I first decided to make it one since both tags were recreated today at the same time. Plus, it's SE that has the final say on blacklistings.
