@MarkPrescher: You don't have to use string resources if you do not want to. I would recommend using them, just so that you get comfortable with the practice. Just because this app will be English-only does not mean every app you ever work on will be in a single language. Plus, if this code will be seen by anyone other than yourself (code review, portfolio as part of a job application, etc.), they might expect you to use string resources. — CommonsWare 53 secs ago
@Peilonrayz There are a number of predefined close options for other sites. It is off topic for SO and more on topic for codereview. It does not matter if codereview takes it or not, the OP would have better luck there though. — demongolem 43 secs ago

So.... is there a point in the transcript I should look at regarding Mat's decision to step down? I don't have a lot of time to go crawling through the past few days

Short synopsis is that job + family leaves only little time for moderation for the Mug

poor guy

Apparently, he is still going to be a mod, just less active.

that's totally understandable

@DanPantry it was on a weekend ...

@Mat'sMug I wish you and your family well, and remember that there is always a place for you here at Code Review (and 2nd monitor)

5:30 PM
For what it's worth, and unless things have changed a huge amount in the past year or so, the mods on CR are more active than any other site, except for a few of the mods on SO. The Code Review workload is significant, and the mods take it more seriously than most.

IIRC saturday last week, so the 26th

@Vogel612 It's been really hard to get online recently, unfortunately, what with all that is going on here

So, A Mat's Mug "doing a lot less as a mod" is still probably doing a lot more than mods on other sites.

which really wasn't the point of this ...

@DanPantry you still in USA?

5:32 PM
@Phrancis Until Monday, yes, which means it's been difficult to keep up to date with CR (as well as other responsibilities, like filling out irish tax forms etc)

@rolfl I don't see that it has, but I don't have access to the details, of course.
The site seems to be going along pretty steadily.

@Stud What really irritates me is that it's 97GB on my HDD, meaning more than 50% of it had to be downloaded.

Yes ,that's a problem. CoD Infinite Warfare was 130GB from the very beginning, that's ridiculous.
With the initial size of Halo 5 + the updates, they are close though
I'm not sure that Microsoft does the same, but Sony makes devs pay for patches and the cost depends on the size of the patch.

@EBrown I think the consoles pretty much lost all the advantages they had on PC before.
They aren't plug and play anymore. That was the only good thing: you buy the game, you put the CD/cartridge in and you play instantly. That was good

then you blow in the cartridge when it hangs

@Stud I'm pretty sure MS doesn't do that.
They sell TechNet and MSDN subscriptions, but they don't charge for patches.

@Stud that is ridiculous

@Hosch250 Yeah, we were really surprised too. They kind of lost the market against Sony and Nintendo. But no, they seem to not care at all.
@skiwi Yes, a small studio though.

Hmm, why does VirtualBox not boot at all anymore, I smell an issue
@Stud Still cool

@skiwi Yes, trying to go indie now

7:35 PM
Jumping on the VR band-wagon?

@skiwi No, I don't even have a VR headset myself
Maybe later, I'm too busy with my current project for now.

It might work for indie studios, but I don't know about VR for non-complete games
For complete games it's awesome though

I think you can make a game around the VR. So you think the gameplay to work with VR and it becomes really cool. Adapting an existing game with VR... meh
@skiwi What does non-complete games means?

@Stud Basically just a demo, or a few levels

Kaz
Well, depends on the game.
After all, Dwarf Fortress is only on V0.42 at this point.

7:43 PM
@skiwi I think it depends more on the game design and the atmosphere. Why would a demo be bad because of the VR?

Yeah, but there's this mountain climbing simulator game and I believe it really lacks in content but is marked as omg it has VR

@skiwi I'd climb the mountain, then jump off a cliff.

Well, I think a game is an experience and don't have to be long necessarily. It just depends what you paid for.

I want to see how it simulates the fall.

@Stud Well that's true, if the price is low then it's okay

7:45 PM
@Hosch250 How your brain compute this

Lots of screaming ^^

Head first, with some tumbling at first, but less as you can speed.
@skiwi I think I'd be too busy to scream.

By the way I'm not sure if this is a good example of the use of the VR. The difficulty of climbing is completely hidden by the gameplay and it makes the game poor.
I didn't play it though, but that's what it looks like.

I want a VR version of F.E.A.R.
Or Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

It seems like this has settled down some, but maybe someone should keep an eye on it: codereview.stackexchange.com/a/149330/34073

7:49 PM
I take that back, I only want VR of Amnesia, no F.E.A.R.

I'm going off now so I can write better.

yay
no sleep tonight

@EBrown Or slenderman?

@EBrown I'll never play a survival horror game with a VR headset. NEVER.

@skiwi Never played that one.

7:50 PM
@EBrown Neither have I
I played Warthunder (warplane sim/game) once for 5 minutes and it was awesome... It convinced me to buy one, but things happened and now I'm waiting for the second generation
I so want to play racegames in VR though :D

@skiwi I tried the Occulus 2 on warthunder in a small cockpit at Paris Games Week. It was fun

@Stud Oculus 2? Or do you mean the DK2 ^^ I think I had the DK2
Was 2,5 years ago already I think though... or maybe 1,5 not exactly sure

@skiwi I meant DK2 2 yes

@DaveFarrington Personally, those are excellent ideas. Your daughter sees the better part of the world, and that's great, but lend her your experiences and tell her what you're afraid is happening. As someone who finds people for a living, some of the lookup sites are a bit out of date and may show old information. Your solutions are good ideas, specifically the second one. If you're uncomfortable with the trip in general, go with her, and make it into a vacation for yourself or the family, and let her do her own thing while making sure she's safe. — Anoplexian yesterday

While this isn't codereview.SE, I have a thing or two to point out: you shouldn't begin variable/constant names with a capital letter (regarding var Money = 0), don't force unwrap values with ! unless you're absolutely certain that they won't ever be nil (regarding money!) and there's no point force unwrapping showLabel.text! while using the setter.
