2:03 PM
I was right?

No

@Slereah Zee is absolutely terrible
@Slereah Oh? How did you figure it out then

Or kinda
I dunno
The point that @ACuriousMind made is that even outside of an integral, we can consider $\delta(p-k) f(p,k)$ as $\delta(p-k) f(p,p)$

That's literally what I said
What the hell

Sorry @0celo7, you don't have @ACuriousMind's charisma

2:05 PM
@Slereah I think 0celo7 meant the same by "The momentum delta sets p=q, people"

Well that's what he gets for not expressing himself properly
B)

:(

@0celo7 How you say something matters as much as what you say ;)

If I read that, I'm gonna assume you mean "in an integral"
b/c that is the Usual Thing

@Slereah sorry I figured you had some experience with delta functions :(
Being a Physicist and all

2:07 PM
Nope, I am dumb

@Slereah let me recommend a book for you
Quantum Physics for Babies (Volume 1) amazon.com/dp/1492309532/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_4T7bxb41WCG08

lol
that's appropriate for me as well.

BAN 0CELTO7 IMMEDIATLY
Here is one for u :

Jesus

2:10 PM
Who will help you with GR, etc. if I'm gone

Someone competent, mb

Wow, so harsh
☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
Why do you hate me

mb bc ur mean

You keep calling me an engineer
And it's not in a good way

Is it my fault if you're an engineer
We all live with our life choices

2:17 PM
It's the way you say it
@ACuriousMind isn't mean like that
He's the only one who doesn't hate me

I don't hate you.

@3075 Yes you do

Since when do we have smileys? Ew...

Those are unicode smileys, @Danu

Ah :)

2:24 PM

Look at this friendly bear

LIOOOOOON

🍔🍔🍔🍔

It's a rollercoaster!
Of EMOTION

@Danu You don't use emojis?
@Slereah 🌭🌭🌭
@Slereah ☎️☎️☎️☎️☎️☎️☎️☎️

2:30 PM
Is that the telephone operator

@0celo7 No I don't, and we've been friends for over a year now.

awww

@3075 we don't have what @ACuriousMind and I have

@0celo7 yeah because that's kind of weird.

@3075 love is not weird

2:37 PM
Long time no speak, folks :)

Hello

Who dat
Who dat who dat, I G G Y

Hey there, @JamalS, how's it going?

@ACuriousMind Great, I'm on my Easter break from university. How are you?

@JamalS Fine, one week left till my semester break is over

2:42 PM
I have two weeks left, then another four weeks until exams.

@JamalS Which university did you end up going to?

Easter?
What country has Easter in April

@0celo7 Erm... it's called 'spring break' over there right?

@JamalS What county has spring break in April

The UK, apparently

2:43 PM
Well, whatever it's called, it's a month long thankfully :)

What the f

I only have one exam left to do before I can start with a master's thesis, but trying to schedule it during the holidays has turned out to be a nightmare. I guess I'll have to ambush the profs after their lectures :P

@ACuriousMind That's the best
Or on the way to their cars

What is your thesis gonna be on

Or in their cars :)

2:45 PM
@Slereah Not that fixed yet because I only ahve to choose an advisor after that exam.

Anyone catching your eye?

Well, most of the people doing theory in QFT and string theory here do interesting stuff, at least to me.
I don't think any of them is famous, though

tell them to hire me instead mb

Although I keep seeing people around phys.SE using Weigand's QFT lecture notes

@Slereah Wanna take bets on when KN shows up
It's coming from El Asia

2:48 PM
No

Why not
I don't have shipping data
They won't even tell me if its shipped yet
@ACuriousMind pick a number between 14 and 29

@0celo7 18.53

Are there any standard theories of inertia?

@ACuriousMind integral
@Obliv what

?
was that unclear

2:53 PM
What is a standard theory of inertia

just a theory that many people agree on?

Uhh, F=ma?

Newton's law

I think most people like F=ma

It's a pretty good one

2:54 PM
Maybe @JamalS can give you the stringy corrections

wait
I mean like ideas about inertia itself
and what it's related to

@Obliv The general belief that things remain moving or unmoving.

Inertia is linked to the Galilean group
I guess???

It's just mass
Something with more mass needs more force to accelerate

What do you want m8
Beyond basic classical mechanics

2:56 PM
We quantified moment of inertia today in physics
well last week but

Newton's first law of inertia. @Obliv says what?

Moment of inertia is a different thing

Oh, as in centroid stuff?

It's inertia for rotations

so I was wondering if there was such a quantification for inertia as a whole
like is it related to the geometry of space/the motion of the object?

2:57 PM
What's the framework

if it's rotating why is it given by $I = \sum_i m_i{r_i}{^2}$

@Obliv Rotational inertia is different because it relies of the rigidity of whatever is rotating.

@Obliv did you not do the derivation of that equation in class?

You can derive $I = \sum m r$ just by assuming that an object is made of point masses

no my professor is actually stupid
if I asked he'd probably say "why would you need that?" he's probably a retired engineer (no offense @0celo7)

2:58 PM
He's probably smarter than you

It's not different from $F = ma$

@Obliv my physics profs are engineers and we prove every equation we use

It's just Newtonian mechanics for a collection of points

Allegedly (in response to Ocelot)

@barrycarter huh?
Why don't you @ me

2:59 PM
because @0

Ocelot, I still doubt your claim that you prove EVERY equation you use :)

@Slereah I don't want to derive $I = \sum mr$ I want to derive $I = \sum mr^2$
