@NVZ Most of the things I've been called don't bear repeating.

NVZ
@TheSnarkKnight primarily opinion-based

Primarily Opinion-Based.

ah, brain not fully functioning today

NVZ
@TheSnarkKnight fully functional brain you shall have not.

@Catija Taste good?

8:01 PM
@apaul Tastes like cake.

@Catija Tastes like magic :)

@Tinkeringbell thanks :) so the question does have potential to be answered on the main page ...

@D.Hutchinson If you keep it like that, I think it's at the very least an interesting experiment to see if that 'version' of is-it-rude works ;)

NVZ
I have a friend who calls everyone suleiman rather than their real names. And we in turn call him suleiman while his real name is something else. :)

I see @Tinkeringbell

NVZ
8:05 PM
@D.Hutchinson As shog9(?) once said, just go ahead and ask. Either you'll see it closed or you'll see it answered. Either way, discussing about a hypothetical question is futile. Bring in the real one.

@NVZ that remind me, today is "Talk like Zathras" day. So, talking like Zathras we shall be.

@NVZ ok cool :)
@NVZ who's "shog9", by the way?
I've never seen him / her in this room ...

NVZ
@D.Hutchinson shog9 is an SE employee; he monitors stuff that goes on on various SE. (And if you mention his name a few times, he'll appear.) ;)

@NVZ that's the guidance on meta. Ask about topicality after it's closed.

Oo I see

8:08 PM
If you say @Shog9 enough times he will appear... Be afraid.

Oh no :(
now I'm scared ...
time to go hiding in another room again ...
with @HenryWHHackv2.1.1
just kidding :)

NVZ
@D.Hutchinson there is no escaping, there's no place to hide. nyet.

I see :(

@apaul I see you're practicing poking bears again...

@Catija I don't believe it... You'd probably have to stand before a mirror and turn a circle after every incantation of the name too?

NVZ
8:12 PM
@D.Hutchinson i for one think your question about the muslim "brother" is interesting. if you wish to see it being discussed effectively, i recommend asking the question on main site. later we can polish it via meta und chat.

As long as you don't do that it should be safe

@Tinkeringbell Well, apaul didn't just say Shog... he pinged him... so it's different.

@apaul you've already got two staff members hanging out in here, do you really need a third? ;)

NVZ
@apaul i wouldn't have dared put that @ symbol. You, my good sir, are brave(?). :P
@Mithrandir who are those staff members?

@NVZ ok, I will work on a question when I get to the coffee shop later :)

8:15 PM
Hey, I got recommended to superping the CEO of Stack Overflow Inc..... But I didn't...

By the way, @NVZ I think you were talking about this:
1
Q: Should we encourage people to just ask questions on main rather than asking about topicality on Meta?

CatijaIt's drummed into anyone on Stack Exchange if you've been here long enough. Something along the lines of: If you've never used a site before, check the site's scope on the help page and ask on meta if you're unsure before posting a question. Right now we don't really have content that's use...

@NVZ Tim Post, the Director of Community Development, and Adam Lear, former SO, Programmers.SE, and Lit.SE V1.0 mod, former CM, now a developer.

@Mithrandir The most intrusive thing I do is tweet at them.

(I don't know Tim's history as well)

NVZ
@Catija yes, thanks.
@Mithrandir i'm pretty sure you stole Tim's keys as well.

8:18 PM
@Mithrandir He likes baking banana bread.

@NVZ Foolish, brave... What's the difference, right?

Oh, that reminds me... @TimPost I see your banana bread and raise you four bundts!

@Catija Everyone needs to be good at something.

@apaul "practicing" implies you're not quite there yet ;)

@apaul I'm good at mischief, does that count?

8:21 PM
Who said I was practicing?

I did.
10 mins ago, by Catija
@apaul I see you're practicing poking bears again...

@apaul in the UK's Parliament, an MP referring to another one as "Brave" does mean foolish.

@Catija Hmm... Think of it like a medical practice. One is always perfecting the skill.

someone can be foolish without being brave, someone can be brave without being foolish, someone can be both

@TheSnarkKnight That's fun.

NVZ
8:24 PM
@Catija i thought we tweet to people, but, lol... i get it.

I'm probably the one who is foolish and isn't brave

@NVZ Um... no... we literally say "@[twittername]" the @ means "at"...

Aww. I wanted to get takeaway, but my favourite is shut :(

:(

@Catija and in the netherlands, we sometimes call @ apestaartje, a literal translation would be: monkey's tail

8:27 PM
tail?

@Catija thanks, I really did not realize the typo XD

It's called a strudel here...

There. I did it. I just put myself on sick leave....
Now I'll probably wake up feeling like I can conquer the world tomorrow :(

@Termatinator :D No worries. They're homonyms.

Oo nice :)
@Tinkeringbell for how long are you on sick leave?

8:30 PM
@Catija I know, but still. Kinda stupid of me

@D.Hutchinson Depends. If I feel better I just take myself off... it's a nice system

ah, nice :)

Just call the manager, tell em you're sick, click a few buttons in the system... end date can be filled in when you feel better...

that's pretty awesome ...

I just have to work for two weeks now, then my intern is over

8:32 PM
okay what's up with this literally all the good takeaways are shut

Monday? I know a lot of restaurants here are closed on Mondays.

@Termatinator what do you do at your internship?

I never have to worry about the good restaurants here being closed.

@NVZ shog is not here yet

@Mithrandir There aren't any?

8:34 PM
...make of that what you will.

@Catija its opening times say 1700-2140
and it's 2034

@D.Hutchinson making a website, helping the company I am working with, working in their databases

@ArtOfCode Those are weird hours... why 2140?

@Termatinator I see

NVZ
@D.Hutchinson There's a first time for everything.

8:35 PM
@Catija shrug

@NVZ true true

and I am chewing on a shark's tooth again

Ouch

Aha! Gotcha. Everywhere isn't closed, the order website is broken. Solution: use a different one.

:/
That's crappy.
Or you could... call?

8:39 PM
Yup, but at least I'm getting my food
@Catija the one I was looking for doesn't take orders over the phone

Interesting.

or at least won't take debit card orders over the phone

@apaul it's not painfull, I do it when I am bored

@Termatinator They make fidget toys that are specifically for that.

NVZ
@Termatinator you do what when you're bored?

8:44 PM
@apaul I absolutely hate those things, they annoy the **** out of me
@NVZ well... yes, why not?

NVZ
@Termatinator no, i mean, what do you do when you're bored...

@Termatinator Are you talking about fidget spinners?

@NVZ play a game, search random facts, chewing on that tooth

fidget spinners are the work of the devil

@apaul yes

8:46 PM
@Termatinator you could damage your teeth enamel :(

growlf?

@D.Hutchinson the tooth is not that sharp anymore, still sharp, but not that sharp

do you have many shark teeth to play with, @Termatinator?

@apaul I don't like it when it is soft, please don't overthink this comment

8:47 PM
@apaul I need more jewelry!

haha ... oh geez ...

@Termatinator lolol

NVZ
...

@D.Hutchinson no just one

I see

8:51 PM
but I have many things to keep me entertained

They're usually like a stiff silicone. Satisfying to stim with but they won't break your teeth. Some of them are designed with a variety of textures.

@apaul can you break them if you chew hard enough

@Termatinator I suppose it's possible, but unlikely.

I also like it when a part of the thing I am chewing on is sharp
but not a knife
also please don't overthink ^^that comment

Stimming is as individual as the individuals who do it.
My favorite stimming toys tend to be more like flow toys. Orbits, devil sticks, juggling props, that sort of thing.

Q: How to insist (and convince) on a course of action when you are not in a position of power

Tycho's NoseI help a young teenage boy learn English at a non-profit organization where I am a volunteer. The boy is considered at-risk youth as he's the child of immigrant parents and of low socioeconomic status. English is the third language he is learning and French is also mandatory in his school (publ...

9:49 PM
@apaul do you get transfixed by running water? I do, and so much so that I often spend much more time in the shower than I intend. Sometimes I only get out when I either run out of hot water, or my cat starts nagging me. Yes, my cat actually goes nuts when I'm in the shower for more than 10 minutes

@TheSnarkKnight Somewhat? Unfortunately my water heater is really small...
Lucky if I get more than 10-15 minutes.
Right now I'm transfixed by circus arts
