9:01 PM
@apaul how’s that in metric? :P

@Tinkeringbell about 18-24?

@apaul that’s summer here :P

@Tinkeringbell how cold is it now?

@apaul below 10 C if I have to guess... 7? Maybe?

@Tinkeringbell ah that's like our "winter" 50°f
@Tinkeringbell If it makes you feel better, summer gets really miserable here. Not uncommon for it to reach 98 and rain nearly every day, very steamy.

9:12 PM
@apaul that sounds like summer here: too hot and humid

@Tinkeringbell we have different measures of too hot lol
@Tinkeringbell 36-37.7°c

@apaul pfft... if we ever reach that the entire country stops functioning:P

@Tinkeringbell Really?

@apaul sorta... most people will try to get days off and go to the beach and managers stop wearing suits and ties:P
And everybody will complain
A bit like m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys-KP8oPdvg but for sunny days :P

Oh. Just checked and it looks like the record for the Netherlands was 37.3 the record for Florida was 42.778

9:26 PM
@apaul yeah our complaints start at 30 :P

@Tinkeringbell Can definitely relate to the rain in the video. We're known for thunderstorms and hurricanes here.
@Tinkeringbell complaining about the heat is kinda frowned upon though. Sort of a "don't remind everyone how hot it is."

@apaul hah :) it’s a national sport here :P

Except in winter... People break out the sweatshirts and jackets when it hits 23.8

My coworkers are always teasing me for wearing vests to the office even if it’s hot outside
They don’t realize 20 degrees is 20 degrees whether it’s airco or heating:P
@apaul oh no... no sweatshirts above 15 degrees :P

@Tinkeringbell 20 degrees sounds nice to me, but I was born in northern California where it's a bit more temperate.

9:37 PM
@apaul 20 is like perfect here
It’s what most homes are heated to in winter
And if it’s hot out and you can keep indoors at twenty you’re considered a genius:P

@Tinkeringbell it gets really expensive to run aircon that low here...

@apaul no airco here... just close the screens and windows at the right time :P
Even if it’s over thirty outside my mom manages twenty or twentyone inside

@Tinkeringbell must be nice. No heat here, like ever :P

@apaul yeah that’s a bigger problem here :P
One of the reasons I prefer wearing blankets:P
I’m actually more comfortable at twenty five then at twenty

@Tinkeringbell do you all get any extreme weather? Tornados, blizzards? I'm guessing that you're way too far north to worry about hurricanes...

9:48 PM
@apaul in rare cases a very very weak tornado or in Dutch windhoos
No really extreme weather no hurricanes sometimes a pretty heavy snowfall or storm

@Tinkeringbell that's a fun word. Sounds like they're not a big concern, given the cutesy name lol

@apaul Haha yeah. They can rip tiles of off roofs or root up trees but not much more
They also don’t last long
Makes living below sea level a lot easier:p

@Tinkeringbell We get pretty solid ones here. Not as often as the Midwest states, but they still pop up. Water spouts are pretty though.

@apaul we get some water spouts occasionally as well
I never heard of one doing serious damage
Tornadoes must be scary for being so unpredictable

@Tinkeringbell Meh, don't worry much about them. More likely to be struck by lightning here.

9:56 PM
@apaul that sounds a lot better:P
I remember watching a movie called Twister when I was little.... spent weeks suspecting every big cloud to start a tornado:P

@Tinkeringbell just saying that they do damage, but lightning kills more people and does more damage on average?

@apaul weird... there isn’t even that much lightning here... I’m sure storms do the most damage here
Btw you’re officially becoming Dutch... you passed phase 1 by talking about the weather for more than an hour ;)

@Tinkeringbell my area is the lightning capital of North America. We even have a hockey team named The Lightning

@apaul ice or ball hockey? I’m assuming ball because there’s not much ice in Florida?

@Tinkeringbell lol bored on vacation, not much going till my girl gets back from her family's place on the other coast.
@Tinkeringbell Nah, real ice hockey. The have an indoor stadium.

10:02 PM
@apaul Hah... make sure she doesn’t find out you’ve been killing time with another girl :P
@apaul must be pricey

@Tinkeringbell Most hockey is played on indoor rinks?
@Tinkeringbell lol I'm sure she won't be worried.

@apaul most hockey here is played on grass :P

@Tinkeringbell odd?

@apaul why? We’re good at that :P
Rinks are for practicing speed skating :P

@Tinkeringbell I've noticed a trend there...
@Tinkeringbell Not much speed skating here, not enough violence to be a popular American sport :P

10:05 PM
@apaul huh? Like being good at odd things you mean?
@apaul I love watching show wrestling when I’ve had a drink :P

@Tinkeringbell being good at being odd. But then again being good at things is odd from an American perspective. ;)

But for the rest most sports don’t make sense for me
@apaul hahaha

@Tinkeringbell lolol like WWE?

@apaul dunno what it’s called but it’s obviously fake
Which makes it funny after drinking:P

@Tinkeringbell ya, that's WWE here. It's half soap opera, half sweaty men's gymnastics.

10:09 PM
@apaul sounds like it :P

My straight brother is a big fan... Kinda makes me wonder sometimes.

@apaul hahaha....

My friend Egg was a big fan for other reasons. ;)

Trust me; that’s not a sign :P

I know lol
Just jokes

10:12 PM
@apaul egg? Sheesh, Americans are really creative when naming their children... did they have any relatives called sperm?

@Tinkeringbell haha, just a nickname. He tended to keep his head shaved.

@apaul egg? Hmmm still not very creative : P
But glad it’s just a nickname
:)

@Tinkeringbell His real name was Eugene, so egg was a short stretch

@apaul hahaha ;-) I think I’m glad my real name doesn’t abbreviate well ;-)

If you like wrestling you should checkout GLOW on Netflix. Glamorous Ladies Of Wrestling. It was made by some of the people who worked on Orange is the New Black.

10:19 PM
@apaul I’ll see this weekend:-) I need something new... I finished Stranger Things while everybody was celebrating thanksgiving yesterday;-)
Btw.... I haven’t seen @TheSnarkKnight since :/

@Tinkeringbell g.co/kgs/vnm96V
@TheSnarkKnight your snark is required. @Tinkeringbell likes WWE style wrestling....

@apaul looks pink :-)
@apaul just wanna know you’re still hanging in there @TheSnarkKnight

@Tinkeringbell it's a surprisingly good show.
Shh... Gotta bait @TheSnarkKnight with something juicy to be snarky about.

@apaul hmmm I’ll check it out tomorrow:-) I’m nearly at my station.... see ya later, goodnight!

@Tinkeringbell have a good one.

Q: When overprotective parent needs protection

HelloMyFriendI'm 24, female, and I've been living on my own for 5 year now. I'm financially independent, although I do live in a flat my parents own. For some time I've been finding myself in the following situation: My mum is a classical example of a helicopter parent. She's not that concerned with my edu...

interpersonal.stackexchange.com/a/7196/1599 this is what happens when you lay off of delete voting... it was at -3 sometime today, the edit didn't do much to improve it and now that it's reached hnq it's at -6/+6 ... so basically only the comment to show hw bad it is :/

@Tinkeringbell Wait... Hang on... You're doing something I thought was a good idea? O.o This will probably end badly...

@Tinkeringbell it's a bad answer, but still sort of an answer...

11:17 PM
@Mithrandir24601 Hey... you won't know till it's tried. I'm more a fan of rigorous deleting but you're not the only one that voted against that today...
@apaul yup... bad ones should get down votes

@Tinkeringbell There was a vote about that? I must have missed quite a bit...

But hnq doesn't know that
@Mithrandir24601 not officially :-) I just kept track of reactions; -)

@Tinkeringbell Ahh, fair does then

@Tinkeringbell but not always delete votes.
@Mithrandir24601 we're you thinking one collecting tp rolls?

@apaul You might be thinking of @Mithrandir the blue

11:29 PM
@Mithrandir24601 ah my bad.

@apaul People do it all the time :P It's all good :)

@Mithrandir saw this today and it reminded me of your tp rolls:
