@dhein Haha sorry buddy! I just don't feel like using a templating scheme on the server side... I'd rather use AJAX to retrieve JSON responses to the client hehe

Have you considered just loading up their stuff and delivering it to them? I know that feels like you are doing extra work but at least then it would be settled. At least for big stuff like the computer... for dish soap, I'd just use it myself. — DaveG 1 min ago

When I'm reviewing "Low Quality Posts" what criteria am I looking at for "Recommend Deletion"? I'm looking at one specific answer right now, and I personally can't see anyway of editing it because its so short and the grammar is too difficult to decipher the poster's greater meaning. I guess the answer-er always has the ability to edit it to fix it completely... but would deleting it (possibly indicating to them that it just needs completely reworked) be appropriate?

Yes, that would be appropriate. In general, try to hold it against the points outlined here: interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/q/3266/1599. (now, they're not some kind of rule book, but they do indicate what may or may not lack in an answer).

8:20 PM
Stuff can always be edited and undeleted
Deletion isn't end of the line

One but: deleting doesn't really tell someone to edit, let alone what to improve. So if there's no comment yet, try and leave one.
Or if you see something that isn't in a comment yet, leave one too :)

If there's already a good comment there describing how to improve the answer, make sure you upvote it

Thanks! :) Also, is there some sort of "master wiki" or post that has a collection of different really valuable meta-posts? I see posts like these referenced all the time and it would be helpful if I knew which ones to reference when.

@Anilla interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/q/3485/1599 We started that sometime ago, us mods still need to tag them

@Anilla To help you know when you should recommend deletion: interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/a/3321/21067

Thanks everyone :) this is good stuff!
Whoah, that scared me for a hot second. I saw the "User Removed" thing in my reputation tracker; I now know what it actually means lol

Heh, yeah. First time seeing that can be a bit of a shock

Maybe one thinks one has been removed instead.
But removing myself is what I constantly do, LOL.

Hi @RedMage (don't let the loud chat ping noise scare you please!)
Welcome to IPS, and chat :)

I am not sure if anyone in the world has deleted more accounts than me. =)

Welcome @RedMage :)

I see you guys were talking about Shakespeare. I think there is a nice hardcover book with the title The Complete Works of William Shakespeare which you can get for yourself or for a present to someone else.

I think I have a Shakespeare book on my shelf somewhere.
Yep, Hamlet. Got it as a gift, have to confess I still have to read it :/

Once you get the true complete works, there is no need for anything else, because it contains everything.

@Jasper Eh... I do like some of my other books. Like 'The Idiot Brain', 'Heroes' and 'Mythos' ;)

@Tinkeringbell Oh I mean no need for other Shakespeare books. =)

Oh! Here's a question... what's the best book(s) everyone's read before? What makes 'em so special?

8:45 PM
Go the f**k to sleep is by far my favorite children's book

LOL
If there is a children's book for adults, is there an adult's book for children?

@scohe001 Language! :P

Sorry! Forgot about one boxing

@Jasper Thing Explainer could be a candidate.

@El'endiaStarman That's from the xkcd strip author, right?

8:47 PM
Yep.

@scohe001 Just to share, there are over 37 thousand instances of that word in SE chat currently.

Sleep? I suppose that is a developer's carrot on a stick--always sought but just out of reach. Makes sense we'd talk about it so much

No, I mean the f word. =)

@El'endiaStarman My co-worker said there will be a new book soon, something about the worst ways to do things (drying up a river to cross it kinda stuff)

@Jasper Oh that too :P

8:51 PM
@Tinkeringbell Probably the one being advertised on the xkcd main page.

@El'endiaStarman I never really visit that anymore: I already read them all once. The Tavern has a feed for any new ones that pop up:P

@Anilla My favorite book is probably Children of the Mind from the Ender series

As for favorite books... can I nominate a series of books?

@Rainbacon Reminds me of the horror movies I watched, the series called Children of the Corn.

@Jasper very different concept though

8:54 PM
@Tinkeringbell go for it! :D

Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series.

@Rainbacon What makes you like that particular book out of the whole series?

Maybe some people will say The Little Prince is their favourite?

@Jasper I once had a horrible oral exam French that involved that... so no :P
(I must admit I don't mind reading the English version ;) )

@Anilla it's the book in the series that tackled the most interesting subjects. It also has my personal favorite handling of FTL travel

8:56 PM
I think the only fiction book I have read word for word is The Pearl by John Steinbeck for my literature class.
Oh and also I am David by Anne Holm.
I have watched the movie based on Holm's book.

@Rainbacon Oh, I love this books!

@Rainbacon What's their logic behind FTL? Is it the typical bending of space-time behind and in front? Or something new and intriguing? :o
@Tinkeringbell this series looks pretty interesting. Is it difficult to follow at all?

New and intriguing. There's a sentient being living inside of an intergalactic super computer. Said being has the power to teleport objects and people by removing them from the universe and then placing them back inside at another location

@Anilla Not at all. It's in pretty plain English, and the books are relatively short (2-300 pages, mostly). Though I'd advise you to read them in chronological order, as that helps understand the larger story better.
You can perfectly fine read them out of order though: That's what I did when I first snuck one book from the series out of the library ;)

@Rainbacon Hmm, I kind of like that better. For me personally, some types of science fiction can really cringe me out. Like they'll just throw in big sciencey words and somehow conjure up some pseudo-methodology for how it works. That's why I like Star Wars better than Star Trek... they just show things working and don't delve too much into explaining how :P
@Tinkeringbell ahhh sneaky you! I may very well read it this summer. I'm adding ya'll's feedback into a li'l' list I have lol.

9:07 PM
I'm big on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Deep and skillful portrayal of people varyingly able to deal with the world in a specific context of an enormous power imbalance and arbitrary, with arbitrary goals set by an effective dictator
I tend to like any sci-fi, but when I'm in the mood for hard science fiction I really want it (and will read or re-read something like Anathem, Seveneves, or Rama). I'm basically always in the mood for squishier sci-fi, like A Fire Upon the Deep
But I super recommend A Fire Upon the Deep. Fascinating, if a bit uneven

9:37 PM
Right now, I am addicted to Stephen Lawhead. :) I've read pretty much almost all his books- two trilogies, a series of five books, and I'm reading book 2 of 3 of another trilogy of his, and I have one or two more left standalones of his

@Upper_Case I'll be sure to add those to my list! Thank you :D @ElizB ooo! What types of books does he write?
Also... Go lang is starting to convert me from my beloved next-line bracket style ;(

Favorite trilogy- Song of Albion trilogy, it's basically celtic legends weaved into fictional characters. He's also done 5 books on King Arthur and his adventures, and how he came to be. Pretty much three of the five are about merlin
and another trilogy is about Robin Hood and a new twist on the classic story
that's called the King Raven series
i highly recommend Song of Albion first

Q: Am I in a toxic relationship?

PaperWeightMe and my gf have been dating for 6 months now. I'm 28 and she's 23. The first 4 months were great but things have taken a turn since. Basically, she has severe anger issues and they've become more and more common. It freaked me out the first it happened because she turns into a totally different...

@ExtrovertedMainMan "What are your thoughts?" Ohhh boy not sure how salvageable that one is
(the question not the relationship)
(but maybe the relationship. Who knows)

We had a very similar question a few weeks ago

9:46 PM
It's very similar to the question I asked awhile back: interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/20578/…
Which was closed :P
I think we should close this one as well, but maybe link them to a question like mine to refer to? People left some good info there

Yea the top answer over there looks like it'd answer this one too
I'd vote as a dupe, but I already spent my vote on too broad
Nice. Thanks @Ani

Yuppers! I'm gonna link the meta discussion to the OP so they can view why it's off-topic. Sound good?

It never hurts to offer more explanation
It doesn't always help, but there's only so much you can do

10:03 PM
@Upper_Case I added a few comments offering a bit of explanation in brief and a link to the meta discussion :)

Getting angry over little stuff is usually a sign of a person being upset about some completely different bigger issue. You should try to find out this actual root cause of this behavior, only then you'll be able to tell if you can do anything about it. It's possible that your girlfriend is not ready for a serious relationship before she gets over that unknown issue. — r3mus n0x 1 min ago
