In my experience, it doesn't hurt to ask your date what their preference is. My experience is very limited, but I think my results were something like 75% pleased that I had asked, and 25% slightly confused. Considering this comes from someone who accidentally got 100% of his first dates to be confused at some point during the evening, I'd say that's good odds. Q: How to ask Professor about email that was sent?

Jac FrallThe following conversation happened between my Professor and I over email. Prof: Hello, are you graduating this year? Me: Hello, no Sir, I am graduating next year. Prof: Okay. I am very curious about what this could mean or be alluding to but I have not really had a close relati...

Anyone here a VueJS user? :P

Not me.

Hey, does anyone know how am I supposed to help a friend that got friendzoned by one of my other friends? Just respond to their concerns as nicely as possible?

Hey @JennaSloan! Did you think about making a question on the IPS site? Or did you want some sort of quick advice? :P

2:36 AM
@Anilla I thought about making it a question on the site, but I'm too lazy to do that.

@JennaSloan Hmm, I don't think that specific situation has been asked about before. It would be super cool if you asked it; maybe someone else is in a similar situation and can receive help too! :D

@Anilla I'm too busy to do that right now, but you can do it if you would like.

@JennaSloan I would if I were in such a situation hehe

@IPSCommentBot ohh I keep triggering that

hey all
ohh whoops I wasn't trying to talk to the bot

@bruglesco Hello :)

@Anilla If you head over to. . .

 Coding Projects and Duga Heaven :)

Minesweeper Flags, Zomis' games, PDB, MTG, Cardshifter, and al...
Simon the mod from CR is a huge Vue fan and will likely talk your head off
He is from Sweden so won't be active for another 5-7 hrs

@bruglesco Thanks! Oof... I might have to wait till tomorrow then... it's 10:30 PM here lol

3:30 AM
yeah same

These frameworks are quite handy once you know all the ins-and-outs of them. I like how I don't have to do server side rendering and can just use simple JSON API responses/requests. But... not knowing how to do XYZ is so difficult

Are you planning to use it for work or personal?

It's for university; so kind of work :)

yes.

3:46 AM
Yea, so time is of the essence haha. I'm just gonna open up a Q on SO since it doesn't appear someone has the same setup as me yet

Well good luck finding your answer

Thank you! :D
@bruglesco What are you up to this evening? :)

not much
Sort of in between projects so mostly browsing SE looking for places to dispence my limited wisdom

@bruglesco What type of stuff you got experience in?

I'm a self-taught and barely above beginner but Ive done C++ mostly and just started on C#

4:00 AM
@bruglesco C++ is a pretty nice start. If you learn that well, a lot of Software Development stuff becomes super easy to learn.

@Anilla That was part of the motivation behind choosing C++

@bruglesco good for you :D I personally hate C++ and would take C any day xD I don't like all the extra... plus plus stuff... haha

Ohh I love C++. Plus I hate C strings

@bruglesco I envy you then haha. I wish I found a taste for it... C makes any type of string difficult to manage. Especially when you use UTF-8 which has variable-width-encoding ;(

although most C developers have reusable string solutions ready for most situations. But they are just so unwieldy and its all so abstracted away in C++
What do you work with? (Beside Vue and C)

4:15 AM
My first ever language learned was Java actually. I learned Lua, C, Go, JS, x86 ASM (roughly) too. Those are my main tools :). I don't really like any others so far (I've tried Ruby and Python)...

ohh x86 ASM that sounds fun
maybe that's what I need to learn next.

@bruglesco It really is! Especially when you learn and use the Opt codes in hex :) Big big pain to debug sometimes though :P

gawd Im sure
are there good tools out there for it?

@bruglesco Start with ARM if you can. x86 is more unforgiving. Yup! There's a few tools for it out there. GDB (gnu.org/software/gdb) is pretty popular

ohh yeah. Shoulda known the C++ compilers would be good for that. They compile to assembly after all.
well I guess gdb isn't the compiler

4:23 AM
@bruglesco Yea GCC comes with compilers for just about everything lol... GDB is a project management tool for debugging assembled executables :) it basically wraps them in its own li'l' bubble so you have access to all the good bits

So how long have you been doing this?

@bruglesco Uhhh I started with assembly about 6 months ago... I started programming when I was in middle school (dad is in CS which was partial motivation). It's been a good 6-7 years
I've been pretty slow going on really getting good at it though. It's sometimes demotivating to see other experienced developers out there getting so hostile if I don't understand something lol

ahh. I wish I had started young

@bruglesco How long have you been doing it? :)

a year ish

4:33 AM
@bruglesco that's great :D keep goin'!

will do. But thanks. And don't let the curmudgeons get to you. They exist in every walk of life. Some people just don't like the inconvenience of people who are still learning.
If only everyone could start a career at a senior/master level

@bruglesco That's some pretty good advice :) I'm still here! I suppose that's good :D

yeah, I didn't think you were giving up. But let me tell you its way more disheartening getting yelled at for not learning fast enough when you make 7$/hr washing dishes. So definitely stick with the software thing.

@bruglesco :/ yea the world can be pretty tough out there. I've been blessed to have decent work environments... 'though I've had my moments

4:53 AM
I'm off to bed. It was a good chat. g'night.

good night :)

@bruglesco night! :)
@ElizB Heyyy :D

hehe been lurking here
@Anilla hey :P

@ElizB I was 'bout to say, I didn't know you were here haha

@Anilla that's why it's called lurking. hehehehe
finishing up some late night homework. blech

4:57 AM
@ElizB Haha sneaky you. I feel it. Loads of late nights when you're studying medicine. I think I could fill a bookshelf with flash-cards and drawings hehe

@Anilla heh, yeah. I don't study medicine though haha fortunately for my brain
I study public health- I currently am taking classes called "Sustainability and green design in public health", "GIS and public health", and "Health Policy Management, delivery, and financing"
my last three classes :D graduating this may. So freaking excited. but not looking forward to work.
but at the same time I kinda am looking forward to the good work

@ElizB oh oops I didn't mean to imply you did haha. That's me and my problem... alone I guess XD What's your most difficult class right now?

@Anilla not really difficult but time consuming- GIS.

@ElizB Oof, time is what really gets me... xD Oh, also! Did your whole group show up the other day?

have to spend more time than I thought to just make the map display the right way, match colors, make sure the layers are visibly different, add title, north arrow, scale bar, text saying the source and author....
@Anilla yeah they showed up over an hour late. I hid my miserableness then spent the next three hours doing maybe one hours worth of work
the rest was all chatter about ourselves and our stories and background
they were pretty interested in my background because I'm a real live deaf person they've never met before :P

5:06 AM
That was my point. And I was prefering not to have negative influence on your mood >.<
Ok as said I just missunderstood you. So it will be a one off as soon you are in another team. I understood it the way, that even in your new team you can expect to nothing will change in interactions with him at all. And that confused me a bit and I was empathically feeling somewhat desperate for you >.<
@avazula You meant me? 0o

@ElizB Oh the good ol' formatting. That's nice, glad they finally showed up. Shame it was an hour late though :P Best of luck with finishing up that HW!
@dhein hey buddy! Good morning I think? hehe

@Anilla then when I got home I totally vented to my husband (who I warned ahead of time that I was extremely grumpy) that I would've done more had I just worked from home

@Anilla Whats these templates you talk about? Plain C doesn't have them xP And I have written once an fully functional login system for HTTP requests in plain C :P using FCGI and NGINX You can have a look on it if you want.... And I can still find it. ^^

@Anilla Yeah, the presentation is finally shaping up. I told them get it done by tomorrow night then I finalize it then and we present it the next day

@Anilla Yeah :D And good what ever to you. :D I was today way earlyier at work then usual (05.20am ^^ now its 06.10 :D) So good morning should fit ^^
@ElizB: Oh hey pal :D long time not seen. :) How are you doing?.... Generally '^.^

5:11 AM
@dhein generally tired and ready for bed.

@ElizB Glad to hear things are coming together :) Ahh, wish I had a spouse to vent towards haha

@ElizB Hah I see ^^

@Anilla yeah, I'm thankful that he's calm and cool when I get into those moods

@dhein Uhhh I'm using VueJS for client-side templating... no native stuff or even server-side I'm afraid hehe....
@dhein the C thing you made sounds interesting. I'd love to have a look :D It's uhh late evening for me too :P
@ElizB I still need to say good-bye to someone and let them go... It's proven really difficult lol.

@Anilla Do you mean you need to break up with someone?

5:15 AM
@Anilla I've had friends I've just had to let go. Oh then there's also my narc dad who's easy to let go but hard to shake. :P
I gotta sleep. Gonna have less than 7 hours and counting if I don't get going now. G'night :)

@ElizB night :)

@Anilla if you want any advice about that someone you need to let go ping me anytime
I'm not a professional but I can share personal experience when I'm more awake :)

@ElizB Thanks! I might do so tomorrow hehe. Get some rest :D

Oh OK, I understand what you mean by letting go now. =)

@Jasper It's from this situation I asked about awhile ago: interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/20309/… I'm not in a relationship exactly... just have some pretty strong feelings for them.

5:18 AM
@Anilla I'll check my USB sticks, when I am the next time in my old flat (will be 1st of march) Hopefully I have a backup on one of my sticks. Cause the server I developed it on + where my version controll was on with all my projects, got wiped due to me having had a period where I couldn't pay bills :x
But being the only project I have fully finished on my own, I am quite sure I have multiple backups of it. Probably it is on any and every USB stick I have there xD

@Anilla I see you used the gender neutral singular pronoun, very secretive, LOL.

@Anilla Wow, with that motivation your spouse to-be could be happy of having you :P /s

@Jasper I do so on all my questions :) I've had bad experiences with people knowing my gender before and I've just gotten accustomed to not disclosing it online now hehe
@dhein Oh my god haha. You should get a VCS setup remotely you can keep all ya code safe :P

@Anilla: Btw you can respond to specific messages by pressing the arrow to the left of a message and then click "reply to this message" that way people can see what message you replied to when they click the angled arrow

@Anilla I see. Your username means ring in Spanish, right?

5:22 AM
@Anilla Well, not of my local machine dies ^^

@dhein Oh oops! I see now that you had a VCS... wait so was it remote? Or was it self-hosted?

@dhein A surprisingly large number of chat users do not know this.

@ElizB Sleep tight, and good luck with waht ever this conversation was about :)

@Jasper Yup! That's right :D it has a li'l' implicit meaning for me

@dhein I actually watched a movie called "Good Luck, and Good Night".

5:24 AM
@Anilla As said, it was hosted on an external root server, which got wiped cause I couldn't pay their bills anymore

@dhein Ahhh, so it was external. Yikes... that's too bad :( Github has free unlimited private repos now though! Thanks Microsoft :P

@Anilla yeh, but back then it hadn't and currently I am not really into coding. But as soon I have a project private again, thats what I'd do.

@dhein True... darn Microsoft should've bought them sooner :P I don't code too often either... only for fun or school projects. It's really bad when I code since I try perfecting everything

@Anilla: I am gonna write an answer to your question I think. Just checking right now if one of the answers is covering this already. Might need to have some clarifications before, aswell tho.

@dhein That'd be neat... If you find any details you think might be missing go 'head and tell me :) I felt like the current answer is a bit too lacking somehow... I can't quite say how though

5:53 AM
@Anilla: So you want to avoid them and let them know why, and hope they would respect that, without anything being devalued. Sounds tough... I mean this requires them to respect that in the first hand, and if they are respecting that, its not a really big deal telling them. But if they don't respect it and want to keep it as friends, I think it is kinda impossible without devaluation.
You have any common friends or such itneraction areas?

use what I just taught you xP

Ohhhh xD okayyyy hahaha
Aww man I deleted the wrong one too... this is what happens when I stay up too late hehe

x'D
But to be honest, what is the problem about jsut confronting them and telling them exactly what you told in your post? :x

@dhein Well, honestly I feel like it's gonna be tough. I might cry presenting it if they deliver any rough feedback. There's a lot of negative energy right now. I don't want them to think they were only good to me 'cause I wanted to date them... if that makes sense.
@dhein I wrote that question a long time ago... a lot has changed and I've had more to think about... so I'm not really sure how I'd fix my question 'cause it might entirely have to be re-written.

It does. So, by saying you don't want to devalue it, do you mean you want not to destroy an illusion of him having wanted only good for you, or would you be fine with it in the end turning out that he wasn't as nice as you were seeing him?
So what about posting a new question then? ;)

@dhein Well, I just want to see the truth. Whatever intentions they had for me... I'd like to know. I'm not exactly too interested in taking this lightly because it's never been easy on me.

6:13 AM
before we discuss it out in here, that might be a better way :P
I'd love to help. Especially since I am already used to this, and I must honestly admit, actually the best you can do in such a situation is just ghosting the situation. As any attempt I made when I was in your shoes, was seen as me trying to convince them, when I tried to explain them my current feelings. But since you want to make that cut anyways, it doesn't really matter what they think why you tell them how you feel, as they will see afterwards, and it is not your fault that they saw the hurt desperate girl when in fact yo
@Anilla Is that person well reflected and understands them selfs?
Your last comment sounds to me like they not really are, at least not to the extend it would be required to get what you want to hear from them.

@dhein I almost tagged myself; I really should go to bed. Uhm, I think they're not really acquainted with their inner-self; they've had troubled understanding their feelings. It might be bad, but just ghosting them isn't exactly satisfying enough. I want them to know they hurt me... just so they can understand what they're doing isn't okay

6:30 AM
I know exactly how you feel. I went through this so many times. I can tell you, how I handle this usually, what to avoid and what to do so you get at least some extend of "satisfaction". But I have to sadly tell you, you won't be able to get what you are hoping for. If you confront people with their emotions (either having or not having them) and try to explain them how they should/shouldn't have acted acordingly, they tempt to get automatically very deffensive. Thats due to cognitive dissonance reduction.

It should be displayed as " in the edit box and say "quote" when hovering over it with your mouse. ( yellow box ) Alternatively I would suggest that it may be a good idea to add some kind of "explanation" why you don't want to touch those subjects. They don't need to be fully fledged out but something along the lines of an one sentence explanation like "and I prefer not to think along those lines, because it makes me too sad" or "and I prefer not to think along those lines, since I think we can't really say how we will react without it happening." should make accepting easier for most people. — Nico 47 secs ago

@dhein Thanks for your message, I really appreciate it :) I think you're right... I know you're right... That's what hurts even more I guess lol. Knowing that I can't ever have them feel for the way I was hurt... I'm not quite sure why I let myself be so vulnerable. Times like these makes ya wanna build a wall and make everyone who likes you pay for it :/

6:45 AM
@Anilla Cause that's what we do when being in love, I think ;) We want to make our self vulnerable to see the other person knowing how to treat this gift accordingly. But sometimes we just get disappointed. As said, I know this situation just too well.

@dhein Yea, gotta open up the doors to let someone in. I'll need to do some more thinking. Appreciate you talking about it with me, like said before :)
Before I go to bed... I'm gonna assign a domain name with my online handle... which extension should I use??
I was thinking maybe "anilla.wtf" or "anilla.lol" so far haha... something kinda hipster

what about Anilla.party ? :D
x'D
@Anilla And you are welcome. I am happy if I am able to help :)

@dhein Oh! Maybe... it's only 13.00 USD HmmMm

7:09 AM
@Anilla Depends if it suites you I'd say :P

I prefer sticking to com, org, or net. =)

I just like it from the event I am co organizing. our domain is pyrateLAN.party and thats a neat domain for a lanparty called the "PyrateLAN" ^^

If you might use the site for serious purposes, then don't use something too casual.

Anilla.w/e sounds for me more like being a play server

What is w/e?

7:14 AM
But in my specific example I still think .party is fine
what ever
@Anilla: Or what about Anilla.xxx ?
sorry couldn't resist xP

Well, xxx is usually reserved for porn sites. =)

I know xD

However, I often use XXX on SE to denote a blank that needs to be filled in.

@Jasper I hope you designate it as NSFW in that case xD
just imagine that side ending with .xxx exists '^.^

In school, my teachers wrote x the curly way in algebra. But I think I prefer writing it the straight way.

7:18 AM
context? '^.^

But I have gotten so used to writing it the curly way now. Maybe I should change back to the straight way.
@dhein The only context is handwriting in math class, that is all.

kk ^^

The curly way I wrote this way: a U opening to the left, followed by a U opening to the right.
The straight way would just be two straight lines. =)
Of course, if one writes it the straight way, that can be hard to differentiate from the multiplication X.
That's about the only problem.

Sorry, but I have no idea what I am expect to respond '^.^

Haha, no response is needed, I am just making small talk.

7:24 AM
KK, I nver was into math and for multiplications I do a * kind of sign rather than an x. So maybe thats why I can't join you :P

But I think handwriting is a very interesting thing. I wonder how people actually write other scripts, like the Cyrillic script, the order of the strokes, and so on.
@dhein I can tell you that the asterisk * is not used to denote multiplication in math, only used in non-math contexts. =)
That day, someone was talking about how to write Chinese characters.
I suddenly realise how hard it is for someone trying to learn Chinese as a non-native speaker.

In primary school I learned to use a dot (not being on the keyboard) for multiplications. And I never started using an x instead to avoid confusing it with the variable X. No one ever complained. and that was all before I learned programming and hence using the asterisk as multiplication
And I pretty much think, thats also where using asterisk for multiplications comes from.

One thing is that the Chinese characters you see in print and online are different from the ones you write, just like the English alphabet.

By the way, you are quite someone for unmentioned topic changes, aren't u?

@dhein Ah yes, the dot is indeed used in math for multiplication.
@dhein Yes, I do random topic changes all the time, so I am a good person to have a long conversation with, because I never run out of things to say. =)
Hello @Tinkeringbell!

7:32 AM
@Jasper Just want to inform you that this is very confusing for me sometimes, and in future I just might pop out of a conversation if I can't follow what we are talking about. Just so you know its not meant to be rude.

@dhein Don't worry. Anyway, people pop in and out all the time in SE chat!

true

Yes, we don't need to overthink about these matters. =)

Anyways, I am gonna focus on my work now, good morning/good night in what ever fits x)

OK.

7:35 AM
@Anilla: By the way, any findings regarding the backery investigation? xP

@Jasper Morning! :)

JAD
o/

A sudden influx of people.

@dhein Of course no! I meant the coworker
Hello everyone

7:40 AM
Hiiii.
I guess this is the time when many of you start work, which explains the sudden influx. =)

Ha, I got serial downvoted again. How nice.

@avazula Why would they want to serial downvote you? You are so nice. =)

@Jasper I don't know. I got an unfriendly comment in response to my demand on a post for the author to expand on why they would it'd be a good idea to do so at approximately the same time ...

@avazula I guess this downvoter must be quite new to SE. It may be picked up by the script tomorrow and be reversed automatically. Anyway, of course the commenter and the downvoter may not be the same person, as you already know.
Hmm, yes, it is very bad, five consecutive downvotes.
If it is not picked up by the script, you may wish to ask a moderator to look into the matter.

I don't know. I'm not sure it actually matters anyway. I'm just stupidly hurt by a stranger who seemed not to like my contribution to the site

7:46 AM
@avazula Well, maybe you can just see it as a stranger on the internet. That will help to heal the hurt. =)

@Jasper That's stupid but I think it's even worse, because online, people can only judge me on what I do and not who I am, so ... they're not biased.

JAD
@Jasper more or less :P

@dhein Haha I might go with .party. It’s gonna be a little fun site, nothing serious. It’ll house different playground projects I wanna share with people and such. Backery investigation? :o

Backery? I thought it was bakery at first. =)

8:01 AM
OhhhHhh. I remember now. My brioche bread was eaten up awhile back. No, I never did find the offenders... my investigation continues haha

@avazula Demand? Or request?

@Tinkeringbell mmh ... I need to look for the difference between those two words .... but intuitively I'd say request
Yes, request
TIL

Demand sounds too fierce. You probably meant request, LOL.

@avazula I was hoping it was request ;)

:p
I may have sound harsh though, maybe ... If you wanna have a look

8:07 AM
Anyway, yeah, getting downvoted sucks. See if the script reverses it tonight, otherwise give a shout and I'll see if it needs further investigating ;)

It's not really the downvoting that bothers me, it's that somebody has against against my contribution :(

@avazula It does not sound harsh at all. I can assure you. =)

@Tinkeringbell But thank you :)

@avazula You're welcome. I dropped another comment there ;)
Now that one is harsh ;)

I am a busybody, let me look at it now...
@Tinkeringbell I still would not call that harsh. =)
I think the harshest comment there is his comment, the one about common sense.

8:20 AM
@avazula Ah ok :D Cause I think, Tink meant my continues conversation, remembering her and hence that not being helpfull for getting a better mood, what I totally was able to understand and felt sorry for. And then you hooked on that refering to the person remembering her, so refering to me. But I thought thats possibly not what you meant ^^
@Anilla yeah, the thing that went missing the other day. forgot what it was called. ^^ And yeah, so .party sounds fair enough. When ever there is soemthign funny, we can join your party xP
@avazula don't assume that. Could aswell be someone needing to vent something personal that is unjustified :) Your contributions are awesome :)

8:53 AM
Got a reply to that comment I left: apparently the top answer isn't backed up/explained either? Could someone go have a look and comment there as well then? (I have a meeting coming up)

@dhein oh, sorry pal if I got that wrong. I didn't mean no harm :)
@Tinkeringbell It is not, indeed. I'll leave a comment
@dhein Aaw. Thanks. You're awesome.

@avazula Nice, then I'll reply to the OP with a request to actually participate in moderating instead of complaining later ;)

@avazula Isnt our policy, saying "I encoutnered this before." And then telling what has been observed, is valid backup?

@dhein It's not enough. They need to say how the people reacted, otherwise they may just as well have very poorly reacted. We don't know that until OP tell us how did it go.
Oh gosh ... This comment. Ok, I'm gonna step back a little, I'm sick of hearing that we take users for stupid people u_u

9:27 AM
Hi there

Hey!

anyone seen the latest topic on main? seems urgent :(

Ooh, right.

Thanks for hopping in.

I didn't want to VTC, just left a comment... what you guys think?

9:33 AM
I am a bit hestiate about the closing reason, but shouldn't we vote to close it?
Well, we can't leave it open either. As answers are too risky causing additional hamr
not to mention a troll possibly giving a answer.

thanks for stepping in Tink

He isn't even asking a question. He is asking for advice. So even if it wasn't trouble some, it had to be closed. Also we ahve a clear(very clear) point about it. It has to be clsoed. just not sure what reason it was. I would gonna look it up if no one knows.

@OldPadawan I was about to use that comment haha

where to find it? So I could bookmark it ^^

9:36 AM
@dhein : same for me, maybe we could use a "standard" new VTC reason there ?

@OldPadawan I think there wasn't for a reason. Was already discussed in multiple different metas. Just couldn't find that meta post in time.

Let me link it to you

Thanks

couldn't find it back either

Q: What's the official SE response to serious mentions of suicide or self-harm in posts?

ShokhetLast night on Mi Yodeya, someone posted a question that was basically a suicide note, along with the question of what Judaism thought about suicide. The question was put on hold very quickly, and several supportive comments were posted ("You've listed Los Angeles as your location. A local program...

lul, I have already bookmarked(favorited) it. Just looked on the wrong meta stack >.<

@dhein : geez ! was on metaSE, was looking for the wrong meta too!

@OldPadawan You're welcome! This is one of those things you can always chat ping me for as well (I now got one in the TL :P)

@Tinkeringbell the TL?

@avazula Teacher's Lounge, the chat room for mods.

that's also why some of my folks who tested IPS for me thought it was too big (of a mess too, in the meaning of "too much information I have hard time finding") but it's another story...

@Jasper ooh

Yes, things said in secret rooms are not searchable.
Note that ordinary users can create rooms, but they are all public rooms.
One reason why I don't like to create rooms is because you can't delete them yourself after that, you need a mod to delete a room even if you created it.

B2W CU later folks ;)

Nice pic @OldPadawan

@OldPadawan thanks for warning us pal! have a nice day :)

@dhein I like your new question. I'm often in this situation where I can't help myself but to take the defense of the person/point of view that is attacked ^^
(it seems to work fine for me, but I won't answer your question yet, I'll let other people answer it first and then see if my contribution is really needed)

Q: How to argue for a point of view without appearing like I am sharing that view?

dheinA little Background first: Due to events in my past I am very self aware and practiced a lot, trying to understand motivations of others without letting my personal views/motivation induce bias into that thought process. I dare to say I became very good at this, and am able to just on the run in...

@Ælis Huh, I am curious what this is getting to :)
And yeah its fine for me, too. No one so far confronted me with it, but I just started realizing over the last weeks that people start aproaching discussions with me in a different way. In a way that one would approach a discussion with someone they infact would think having this opinion/view. And I think its no coincidence.

12:07 PM
@dhein I don't have this problem, but I take care to say regularly "it's not what I think, but this is how they see things"
@dhein And I'm not writing an answer right now because I don't have much energy per day, writing takes energy and I think there is enough other people who would be able to give a good answer on this
And now, time to eat!

12:46 PM
@Ælis DOn't worry. I know that just too well. I mean, just remember how often I was mentioning a few weeks ago that I would like to post something but can't due to the lack of energy comming from my mental state at that time. So no worries, I was thinking so already :)
@Ælis Enjoy your meal :)

1:04 PM
Hello, been a long time since i've been here, can't talk too much tho, internship

@Termatinator Hey, nice to see you :)

@Termatinator long time no see! Hope you're doing well

i'm doing moderate, bit insecure after a certain argument with someone
@avazula @dhein

@Termatinator Don't hesitate to ask help in chat if you need it :)

1:20 PM
@Ælis thx, it's a little complicated anyway
was thinking to make it a question, but i'd give too much private info away

@Termatinator :/ lots of courage

and the argument made a friends group split in 2

@Kate Gregory: You are totally right that this in fact is an intellectual game I enjoy playing. I see your point, and this is a good answer. But I will have to digest first what you wrote and will later have a few questions for clarification. As a) I never was considering the point, that even if it is not my views, the other person might not enjoy hearing this. And b) I am not sure if your answer is applicable without adding side notes about my personal views. As that's something I usually try to avoid for reasons, irrelevant to my OP. But I totally like the idea of using "they" instead of "I" — dhein 1 min ago

@dhein I just realize I have no idea why it's good manner to say hello either and sometimes I just forgot to do that

@Ælis Acknowledgement ;) Has to do with levels of communication, I can eloborate a bit more when I'm home ;)

@Tinkeringbell Maybe we should ask a question about that ^^

Excellent answer! This isn't enough for a new one, but I wanted to suggest that the I can't see why [X] construction is usually not literally what the speaker means- it's often a statement about the strength of their disagreement. They generally can imagine conditions which might produce a given view, but what they are saying is that they don't find any of those imagined points at all convincing, to the point that they find it strange that someone would persist in that belief. Not every time, of course, but often it's mildly colorful phrasing mixed with some hyperbole. — Upper_Case 1 min ago

@IPSCommentBot tp

I just visited the Dell website and there I saw a popup that said "Chat with Ava", LOL.

2:07 PM
I'm famous

@Ælis Hmmm ... It's more communication theory than skill

It is very strange though that Dell sells very different models in different countries. I don't mind if the prices are different, but why make the computers different too?

What do the summary areas under the comment bot mean? Like, is toxicity for the comment or the commenter, and how is it calculated? What are the "chatty" and "chatty-no-doubt(@[User]") regexes mean, and how are they determined?

@Tinkeringbell Yeah but it false under the "understanding social norms as they relate to interpersonal interactions - why do we interact the way we do?" of your "on-topic" help center page, isn't it?

@Ælis let's chat a bit more first tonight. Meeting now ;)

2:11 PM
@Tinkeringbell Have a good meeting! :)

@Ælis I don't know, but to me, saying hello or not is just something I feel like doing or not depending on various factors in the exact situation. I wouldn't think so much about it and make it into a very serious matter.

@Upper_Case Regex who catch comments are written by users. So, a user writes a regex and then explain the type of comments that the regex is supposed to catch (chatty, possible answer in comment, etc..). When there is an @[User] inside it, it's because the other who write the regex wanted to be notified when is regex catches a comment

@Upper_Case The toxicity calculation is for the comment. I believe it hits an NLU API of some sorts to determine that rating

And the toxicity is calculated by some google API

@Tinkeringbell but I usually am not here anymore at the times and its so time consuming following those conversations that happened over the night when i am here in the morning. And i am curious too, as my comment actually wasnt a joke 😅
Well I am out for today. But really looking forward for the hello.^^ especially @ÆlisI forget it sometimes too. Most likely cause not knowing it meaning xD

2:23 PM
@dhein Bye! :)
@Ælis is there a way to add regex matching to the bot? Or is that restricted to only a select few users?

@Anilla Come here, we'll explain :)

2:47 PM
I'm on my period and my belly is really hurting right now. Plus, I have a meeting coming up >< (and also, I WANT TO EAT CHOCOLAT!)

@Ælis :( If I could give you some of my chocolate I would

@Rainbacon That's very nice of you, thank you <3

You're quite welcome

@dhein Perhaps we could bookmark the conversation, so that you'll have a more streamlined transcript to read?
Anyways. 10/15 more minutes of work and then a train home!!!

@Tinkeringbell I still have 7 hours to go :((
And no trains

2:52 PM
@Tinkeringbell Lucky you! I have two hours left ><

@Ælis What types of chocolate do you like? :o

@Anilla I'm vegan, so no milk inside. I usually go with black chocolate with raspberry or orange inside (but I prefer raspberry)

@Ælis I love black/dark chocolate over milk... somehow the slight bitterness resonates with me hehe. I'd definitely share some with you if I could :P hopefully those annoying pains subside

@Anilla Thank you :)
See you later people, time for a meeting!

Have fun!

3:10 PM
Yeah, I did not mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you. It was just your answer led me to thinking, at least when I considered my answer. Which is a good thing, usually. So thanks! There may or may not be a difference in perception, to me it... "feels" like there is. But being wrong is something I have experienced before, so it is not unlikely. And yes, this is not the place to discuss gender equality or difference, I have seen a few comment threads blow up already. Have a nice day! — Stian Yttervik 45 secs ago

@Anilla I love bittersweet chocolate too. Normal chocolate is too sweet for me. In a way, bittersweet chocolate also represents life, because life is bittersweet.

@Jasper exactly, right?? I've never really had a bad dark chocolate before. Plus, milk is something I'm partially allergic/intolerant towards :P

Hey :) how's it going? My first class cancelled so I have time now catching up on my homework :D

@ElizB Yaaaaay

Yeah it's a big relief because I have a bunch of little things and it's just so annoying I couldn't do it because I was focused on a big assignment last night
But now I can do that

3:25 PM
@ElizB Hey! Good morning :) What types of stuff you lookin' to get done?

Oh, I just made a discussion post for GIS, I'm gonna work on my part of the group presentation with the "late team"
But first I am inviting people to go to the local museum rock and mineral show with me this weekend yay

@ElizB ooo, rocks :D let me know how that goes. Are we able to share pictures in chat? xD

@Anilla Yes, we can click upload button, if that is what you are asking.

@Anilla I love going, it's just a huge display of collectible rocks and minerals, some beads, and some information booths.
I'm hoping to buy one or two things

@Jasper Ohh okay, thanks... @ElizB That sounds really neat. Maybe you could share some pictures if you take any? xD

3:36 PM
@Anilla sure, I'll try to remember

@ElizB Cool ty!

@Anilla are you a collector as well?

@ElizB I have a geode and a few fossils I got when I was little. Haven't been very dedicated since I must say... but I am always tempted when I see any neat rocks when I'm traveling.

3:57 PM
@Anilla ooh nice. I love geodes :)
What fossils are they do you know?
