2:00 PM
Unless @Ash is actually secretly a dog

Not as far as I know

Sid
@Mithrandir that would make him a sock of someone else we know. ;)

@Magisch Animals in general tend to like me. It's something I inherited from my father. Practically any animal we come across will get along with us. If I had a penny for every time someone went "oh wow my pet normally doesn't like strangers"...:D

There's a singapore special called Ash that assumes I called her, then goes lick my face.
@Cronax I call that disney pricess syndrome ;p
but I'm totally a dog person
and that one cat
but my culture seems to hate cats

I like pets in general and pets like me

2:01 PM
@JourneymanGeek I guess I should start wearing ballgowns then, and try to find a nice prince...I don't usually lean that way though

a friend of mine has a ball python
she's nice

My favourite cat ever was a giant, one eyed ginger tom...
stay cat that would walk up to people, then demand belly rubs

@Magisch I kinda want either a reptile or a fish tank once I've got my own apartment (since those are the kind of animals that don't need me to be around to socialize a lot ;) )

@Tinkeringbell you could get a kind of monitor, some of these are affectionate
or a giant komodo dragon that you can train like a dog

@Magisch I want to make a computer monitor joke...

2:07 PM
@Magisch

I saw a video of this guy who had a 100+ lb komodo dragon as pet
thing behaved like a dog
played fetch and would sit on command

@Magisch Hmmm... nah. I don't know for sure, but komodo dragon might require a permit.

you can utilise it to conquer your enemies

I was actually thinking of asking my brother to help me set up a salt water reef tank ;) But I'm going to practice fresh water first for a while :)

also no robber is not gonna flee if that thing comes at them in the dark

2:09 PM
mother of komodo dragons
you can rule whole empires

@Cashbee I don't want to rule... I destroy XD

@Tinkeringbell Ruling is so much work!

2:25 PM
@TheTinyMan The secret to good rulership is delegation. Delegate all the boring stuff away, so you can focus on the interesting bits. In that sense, it's pretty similar to being a software tester in an Agile environment...maybe I should change my aspirations for the future :P

Yes but then you have to make sure your delegates are doing well, much like parallel programming, which adds a bit of complexity beyond "just do the thing and walk away from the explosion," which can be a single-threaded operation. :-D

@TheTinyMan Sure, but then it takes much less time

@Cronax Delegation versus a big kaboom? I think you're assuming that we have GOOD multiple core architecture, and also that the complexity of the explosion task is anything but way lower than the complexity of the ruling tasks! xD

:D

Somebody once told me...

2:38 PM
@TheTinyMan A full-time job isn't?

@Tinkeringbell Less than ruling I'd bet ;-)
Tell ya what, if you conquer and rule the Netherlands, we can compare who's job involves more work!

@TheTinyMan Hah, if I flood it first, I definitely win!

That is true, destroying everything leads to less work, aside from that 'survival' thing. But tell ya what, if you destroy The Netherlands, can you also try to destroy the US? I think we deserve it more these days. :-P

@TheTinyMan If Trump finishes his wall, then it's just a question of leaving all the taps running :P

didnt he claim he wants to have a space army recently?
once US goes planetary there is no way to flood them
btw there is lots of oil on one of jupiters moons, isnt it?

2:46 PM
@Marcus You underestimate Trump. Once the space army is there, the next step is to build a wall around the Earth to keep out those pesky aliens!

@Cronax We have some TALL mountains. xD I myself, am 237m above sea level, and I'm not in a super hilly part of my state, which is itself only moderately hilly.

if we build that wall out of solar panels to power all our stuff i'd be ok with that

@Marcus SOUNDS LIKE WE NEED TO FREE JUPITER FROM ITS OPPRESSION

@TheTinyMan the moons from jupiter's oppression*

@doppelgreener Fake news!

2:48 PM
we need to make war on the moons to give the oil liberty and democracy

and then those moons will be just the best moons
its gonna be great

I'm instantly reminded of the time an entire space army got swallowed by a small dog due to a mistaken interpretation of scale

(For those poor souls who never read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: hhgproject.org/entries/carelesstalk.html)

are we back to awkward silence?

Nah, it's a comfortable silence. :-)

Awkwardly Comfortable?

2:55 PM
That's how you know you've found someone special
when you can just shut the f*ck up and comfortably share silence

And you're all special to me! <3

Silence & Chill

3:22 PM
lol let me translate what the swiss football-commentator just said:
"speaking of subsistence, I bought a chocolate cereal bar before the game, and because of the heat it is now melting on the table and dripping onto the uruguayan fans below us *laughs with schadenfreude*"

5:17 PM
@Cashbee hahaha... foreign commentators are always so much better than the Dutch ones! We usually watch the more nationwide stuff on BBC if there's no parents around, just for the commentary

@Tinkeringbell But that biting Dutch humor!

@TheTinyMan Meh... things like Eurovision song contest aren't usually commented on humorously (and I don't like the sound of Jan Smit's voice)

@Tinkeringbell Fair :-p

@TheTinyMan Who said I wasn't? :P

Q: Is it rude to ask professors age?

newguySo today during our first lecture we had new faculty to teach us. During first lecture after a brief introduction about him he asked us to ask any questions that we may have about him. So I was curious about how old he was so I asked him. He answered it but I am not sure if it is rude or impolite...

5:27 PM
@Tinkeringbell I'd never be so bold as to suggest such a thing where you could hear it!

@Mithrandir area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/118029/… Any particular reason for that one? :P
@TheTinyMan Good, good

@Tinkeringbell of course not...
@Tinkeringbell gah, the Eurovision >.<

@Mithrandir :P
@Mithrandir hey, no complaining! your country won that one :P

@Tinkeringbell I don't like the song though, and now it's everywhere

@Mithrandir Yeah, it's not my favorite kinda music either...

7:35 PM
@IPSCommentBot I'm not actually sure if that qualifies. I definitely understand what words tripped the regex, but I think they might be used in a non abusive way.

7:52 PM
@IPSCommentBot Ok, maybe it's getting egregious now?

8:22 PM
interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/15760/… any thoughts, is this question still unclear?

"the right way"... ugh.

Re: the right way: google.com/…

on an unrelated note: a mystery bug just appeared on my desk D:

!!/alive

@Rainbacon lol, you're so right ;D

8:39 PM
As far as the question goes, I think your edit was a good edit to make, I'm not sure it added any clarity to what exactly the question was. That being said, I'm not convinced it should have been closed in the first place.

yeah, I kind of feel like it still needs something, but I'm not sure what to ask for

Q: How to add emotion to your conversation?

eneskiI'm reading a book which is more about how to talk better. In that book, I am asked to read any sentence by adding different emotions as an exercise. For example, the book asked me to read the sentence "I need to watch that movie." by adding the following emotions one by one. fear amusement d...
