Q: Where is Gamora?

Mr.JAfter Avengers: Endgame, do we know where Gamora is? I Love You 3000In the end of Avengers: Endgame movie, It was surely an emotional moment, but why did he do it especially when he already had a girlfriend named Sharon Carter (ref: Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Why exactly did Captain America cheat Sharon Carter?

Well, they're counted in days, I think.

Just curious, as I saw a user was suspended for a few days but it was lifted in way less time

5:06 PM
Well, they can always be lifted manually.

Like if there's a reason they had to do that, or if it could be it was just that the mods changed their minds

If it's some specific case you're concerned about, maybe asking them what actually happened would be more productive then trying to speculate what could possibly have happened. Though, don't be surprised if the answer is "none of your business!".
But in general, suspensions can get removed manually whenever someone with suspension power deems fit.
I'd hesitate trying to speculate on the actual reason, though, or if they "got told" from wherever to lift the suspension or suddenly realized they've "made a terrible mistake". Sometimes things just get resolved with or without the user externally and the suspension loses its need, especially if it might have been a suspension issued more for reasons of inhibiting immediate behaviour rather than punishing genuine evil.

PiracThere is no way to screen dark objects via owl post. In fact it was a favourite tactic of the PIRA to attach pipe and nail bombs to owls and use them to assassinate key figures in Britain's armed forces. Source: Pottermore

humm.... This PIRA?
The Irish Republican Army (IRA; Irish: Óglaigh na hÉireann), also known as the Provisional Irish Republican Army (Provisional IRA or Provos), was an Irish republican paramilitary organisation that sought to end British rule in Northern Ireland, facilitate the reunification of Ireland and bring about an independent republic encompassing all of Ireland. It was the biggest and most active republican paramilitary group during the Troubles. It saw itself as the successor to the original IRA and called itself simply the Irish Republican Army (IRA), or Óglaigh na hÉireann in Irish, and was broadly referred...

@NapoleonWilson you wanted kitties yesterday... Just saw that, that's for you :P

But I would certainly need an equally visually arresting image.

For full heaven-sent effect.

ah, crap
the video is funny (and not at all NSFW) but the oneboxing only showing the girl's pic is kinda NSFW

6:38 PM
I'm thinking the episode where she meets the frog alien universe thing in the big white glowy space should do the trick

@Adamant Is there any episode which you feel is as good as "Heaven Sent"?

Maybe "Midnight"?

I mean from the new series.

That's the reboot series.
Or do you mean the new Doctor?
If it's the latter, I guess there have been only ten episodes with her so far, so there isn't much to go on.

Yes, since you were talking about taking something from the new Doctor.
I meant "series" in the sense of "Series 10" etc.

6:41 PM
Idk. So, OK, hmmm. The Ghost Monument one was nice visually and had some emotional depth.
But it wasn't Heaven Sent.
They'd need to write an episode that focused heavily on her personality, as Heaven Sent did, to get the same effect. But it could work with one of the other characters too.

Heaven Sent is (maybe always will be) really one of a kind, in terms of focus on the character of the Doctor to the exclusion of all else.

Any way to check who invited me to a chat? I realized I was invited to this, and am confused
@Adamant it’s normal now for me

Uh, I dunno but I'd be curious
who invites you to a 9 motnhs old comments chatroom on a tag you don't seem to care about much :D

Can anyone invite anyone else to any chat?

yeah I think so
as long as they have a chat profile

6:52 PM
Did you talk about Judaism somewhere recently? Someone might have felt that their explanation of some detail in that chat was so perfect they didn't need to write it again.
@Stormblessed

@Adamant no
A really long time ago I asked Alex what the Talmud was when they mentioned it

What about Star Trek?
I don't know, it's strange
I didn't do it definitely

Q: Could the Infinity Gauntlet be used to make two people fall in love with each other?

HRIATEXPI am wondering if there is anything in the Marvel comic book canon or in the MCU that says that the Infinity Gauntlet has the power to make someone fall in love with the person wearing the IG, or that the wearer of the IG can use the IG to make two strangers fall in love with each other? Perhaps...

Nice to see that checkmark go on the best answer, congrats @Alex :D

@Jenayah Thanks.
@Stormblessed A search for "Talmud" in this room turns up 39 results.
It would have been the first answer if the question hadn't gotten closed. Then I left and didn't realized it was reopened.

Convince the other two to delete their posts. Then it will be the first.

7:42 PM
Nah, multiple answers is good.

@Alex The better to demonstrate WINNING!

Hello everyone. Looking for a little help/advise about a question I asked earlier. scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/211909/… It seems there isn't a canon answer to it so should the question be closed due to this as it would the be a matter of opinion? Thanks

No.

"We don't know" is a valid answer, even if it's not very satisfying.

Yep. "We don't know because it hasn't been showed in canon" is an answer which is not opinion-based, even if hard to prove.

7:49 PM
But at least next time someone wants to know, they should be able to find your question instead of having to ask again.

Plus, there is the start of an answer in comments -
@Seamusthedog - The actor improvised the line. Apparently he was making a joke about how "pretty" Arcturian aliens (note, not human) are and how it doesn't really matter if you get a man or a woman. Unfortunately, the podcast I want to quote from is stuck behind a paywall. — Valorum 4 hours ago
^ that might get turned into quite the answer.
And there might be something more in comics etc. Alien is a vast franchise... Just because it wasn't explained in a movie, doesn't mean there was no throwback somewhere else.

@Seamusthedog No:

Q: Should all questions without explicit canon answers be closed?

phantom42The question How was the Basilisk so stealthy? was closed as Not Constructive. Based on the wording of the question, I don't know that I 100% agree with that, but I get the argument. This comment from Slytherincess caught my attention though. While this is a question that I also have wondere...

So in short, @Seamusthedog: it's not opinion-based, don't delete it, and don't hesitate to ask questions even if there's no obvious answer.
And while you're at it, have an upvote. It's an interesting question. :)
opinion-based questions are more about, say, the meeting of two different universes and asking what would happen. It's the "shark vs gorilla" joke you'll see around sometimes

Thanks. Had a bit of hassle from someone (thePop...something) how was

For instance, asking who would wreck the other in this scenario...

7:55 PM
Had downvoted, made an accusation then deleted the comments.

@Seamusthedog Someone downvoted, but there have been no votes to close. Even if someone didn't like the question, doesn't make it off-topic.
@Seamusthedog (actually the comments were flagged and deleted by a mod, not self-deleted)

@Seamusthedog if someone's a pain in the butt, don't feel obligated to engage further, by the way. You have zero obligation to reply. You can clearly (while keeping polite) state that you don't wantto take the discussion further, but that's your call. In any case, you can also mod-flag to explain the situation. Best case scenario the situation cools down and everybody's fine with each other

@Randal'Thor ok. thanks. Keep saying this but I'm still getting the hang of the site. This is the 1st time being on anything like this!

Worst case scenario depends on how the thing is presented I guess but would probably be not much more than a declined flag if doing it in good faith

@Jenayah I had to walk away as really got my back up but k is that my typical response wasn't suitable for SFF.

Eh, I'd tell you not to care too much about random strangers on the internet, but I know that 1/ it's not always easy and 2/ I'm technically a random stranger on the internet myself :P

I don't know how it happened, but my 10-year-old is an eighties kid. He likes Back to the Future, Goonies, and Jurassic Park (okay, early nineties), reads old Marvel comics, and just spent €10 of his allowance on an old vintage Kenner Snowspeeder.

Nice.
Wait a bit 'till he's older and show him Carpenter movies.
Well, not restricted to the 80s, I guess. But still ;)

A: Is the Primarily Opinion-Based close reason being overused?

BuzzI want to offer my viewpoint, about how I vote on questions like this. Sometimes I vote to close the questions, and sometimes I vote to leave them open. There is a judgement call involved, which is partially (but only partially) subjective. The key issue for me is whether the question seems to...

Q: Purpose of the Night King's generals

nipponWhat is the reason the Night King from Game of Thrones would create his generals (I don't know a better name for the icy guys that are not wights). If they are killed, the wights they created are also killed. So, more generals means higher chance of a general being killed, meaning higher risk o...

so is the other one the opposite then? 2040s kid.

If you have a question that I might be able to answer, best to just ask it - if I'm around I'll probably see it and answer if nobody ninja's me. I don't mind a ping, just note that I may not actually be around when it looks like I am.

Q: How is it believable that Euron could so easily pull off this ambush?

avmohanDaenerys has Varys on her side who is some kind of master spy. She also has Bran who can scout for her easily. She was up in the sky from where she should be able to see Euron's fleet where they were hiding before she was in range of the scorpions (if the ships could shoot at her, she should be s...

if only Game of Thrones writers bothered reading up a few wonderful fan theories instead of trying to come up with their own stories...
yet another series ruined by writers/directors who think too highly of their own talent

Reminds me of that dude who asked why people don't let the fans write their stuff for them. ;-)

You wanna rant about GOT? Lemme ping @TheLethalCarrot :P

@NapoleonWilson it got downvoted so I removed that question, but honestly I don't understand why HBO execs couldn't force the writers to use some crowd sourced wisdom
even if the writers are too prideful to do it on their own

8:46 PM
Because it makes about zero effin' sense.

the last two episodes of GoT are a complete disaster
@NapoleonWilson why not? get the best ideas from fans and implement them
of course, while they had the wisdom of George R. Martin things were different

Of course everyone in front of the screen knows how they should have written everything better. The same with sports games. But that's still not how writing works.
You either want to tell a story or you don't. If you don't, then just leave it be.

@NapoleonWilson I'm not saying any fan could write a better episode of the show. But out of the millions of fans only a few thousand will bother writing out their script and of those only 5-10 will be worthy of screen time
of course, you'd still need to flesh out the dialogues and adapt stuff for the big screen
that's where you need a professional screenwriter
but the basic outline could certainly be outsourced from elsewhere, if you're not good enough to write a good one of your own
you could also have teams of writers compete internally for who comes up with the best script before each season, which is a method sometimes used in corporate environments

See that starts to make a little more sense. And maybe you can flesh that out into a more reasonable question that isn't just "all the Reddit dudes no better, so why not let them write?" and without the judgmental attitude towards the writers. We all know GoT is terrible now, but maybe approach the whole thing a little more objective when trying to turn it into a genuine question.

8:53 PM
sorry for the rant, I'm just angry at Benioff and Weiss for having the most popular TV show in the world with a gigantic budget and wasting all that cash on nothing

In fact similar approaches have been done in the past. I remember the Dead Zone TV-show featured something where people could propose stories for individual episodes.
@JonathanReez Happens.

@JonathanReez try a show with a different Weiss, then.

@NapoleonWilson I'm not sure how to ask it in a neutral form

eeeeh, not entirely sure that'd be on-topic for SFF would it? Maybe more fit for Writing?

Or Movies & TV, depending on the actual question. It's still quite broad, though. But SciFi seems to be particularly unfond of such broader conceptual questions.

8:57 PM
Well, it's not specifically sci-fi or fantasy.

Until then, I'm sure you'll find some like-minded souls for consolation in the ASoIaF room. I heard they hate the TV-show there, too. ;-)
