Q: Strategy game- one faction is 'Trailer Trash'

Nu'DaqI saw an advertisement for this a long time ago- probably around the mid-late 90's. It showed the picture of a worn-down trailer with a stereotypical "white trash" man sitting on a lawn chair nearby and mentioned four playable 'tribes'- two of the tribes mentioned were "Trailer Trash" and "Amazons"...

@shoover You definitely should re-read, Harry Potter books give a lot of new experience at each re-read, but note that many of the Harry Potter answers are based on information outside the books.

Q: Very old (1950s?) time travel story in which a man takes audio recordings into the past

burrowsHe plays recordings of a great jazz (?) musician for the musician's younger self, who had not yet developed his unique style. Might be inspired by the saxophonist Charlie Parker. I read this decades ago in an anthology, would love to see it again.

Q: What does the Klingon phrase in this ritual mean?

Nu'DaqIn the Next Generation episode Reunion, prior to a new chancellor of the Klingon Empire being chosen, a ritual is performed to confirm the previous chancellor is dead. First the arbiter of succession says the phrase "Qab jiH nagil" before stabbing the deceased chancellor with a device called a pa...

Q: ISO 80s Science-Fiction Book (manta shaped ship, people turn into animals and wind)

menzarembaI took out a book from the book mobile 25 years ago, and have never been able to track it down again. It was a sci-fi novel where people had three forms: human, animal, and wind. They could stay in the wind form forever, but had a limited amount of time in the others. There was an advanced spaces...

Bingo MehndraAt the end of the movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope (1977), during the Battle of Yavin, we are witnesses to how, while Darth Vader and his Wingmen were upon the tail of Luke's X-wing in the Death Star Trench, two failed series of laser shoots, one behind and one in front of Vader's left-hand...

Q: Which Time Travel story first showed Destruction of Pompeii?

user931I’ve encountered destruction of Pompeii a lot in time travel genre. Some examples which are on top of my head: In the episode Fires of Pompeii (2008) of Doctor Who, destruction of Pompeii was shown. In the S01E02 of Loki (2021), destruction of Pompeii was shown. Q: (French?) children's book with color-coded leprechauns/korrigans with acronym passphrases

JenayahI borrowed this children's book from a library somewhere before 2009 (most likely before 2007). It was written in French and I wouldn't think it was translated from another language, so it was most likely from a French-language author (although not necessarily from France). It involved a species ...

Q: Story about a mental, emotional, and physical energy absorbing girl, with a romance subplot

ambroseThe novel in question is about an Asian girl who attracts all types of energy towards her, even emotional. This is not good for her, because when she is filled up, she releases it as a big blast. There is a woman who sends an agent to rescue/bring that girl to her so that she can teach her to li...

If it wasn't for a couple hundreds kilometers and the fact that the library probably reorganised its shelves during the last decade, I may be able to find it the old-fashioned way :)

You're clearly just not determined enough in finding this
Any reasonable person would travel those couple hundreds kilometers and demand the librarian restack the library how it was a decade ago

@Jenayah Have you written an email to the library? Librarians are usually friendly and try to aid in identification requests.

Q: Why is there such wide variation in the appearance of the hybrids?

AdamantOn the show Sweet Tooth, some of the hybrids (like Wendy and Gus) are mostly human in appearance, with a handful of external animalistic features (e.g. deer horns and ears), whereas others, like Bobby, have much less human features, almost resembling anthropomorphic animals. This is in addition t...

Q: Does Gus have psychic powers?

AdamantWhen Gus falls asleep in the field of purple flowers, he sees a vision of his father, who urges him to continue on his journey. Q: Zombie World and the main character has a leveling type system

tdog8881This is what I do remember from the manga hopefully it is all on point. The begging of the Manga start with our main character in a room hiding for his life. Q: Who distributes the flyers for the Preserve, and how?

AdamantThe Preserve seems to be the refuge for hybrid children that Aimee runs at the zoo. What is less clear, though, is the source of the flyers urging people to contact it. In favor of Aimee having spread them around: people calling the Preserve seem to be able to reach her without difficulty, and sh...

Have I spoiler tagged this avengers/MCU question helpfully?

Not sure it's wholly necessary but if you're doing it adding the character tag is probably not a great idea

@TheLethalCarrot yeah I know what you mean
I think tag needs outranks spoileriness?
although without the tags it's not as big a deal...?
I think if I followed that character tag I might want to know about this question ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Meh, it's only a character tag anyway and lord knows they're controversial at best

@TheLethalCarrot goes and finds character tags to follow

11:23 AM
is it about Black Widow?

I was going to say a character tag might be helpful in that regard if a user has the tag blocked due to spoilers
I do that with new films/shows until I see them.
the better option would just to be to block the show/movie specific tag

@Skooba you could do that with the film tag, if one exists already

but sometimes there is still crossover if someone wants to reference back and forth. so the character tag still might be helpful to avoid spoilers at all costs
esp when the character and show/movie tags are so similar. e.g. black widow, loki

11:28 AM
we've had that discussion before where the question title is intentionally vague "why does this character do xyz" and then its tagged "luke skywalker" and that itself is a most likely a spoiler.

@Skooba that was my issue above

so it can be a tricky situation
but to me the onus is on the person trying to avoid the spoilers...
so if you know seeing spoilers about Loki are going to make you upset, well you better go hide at least a few tags

Q: How is the Mind Stone acquired by this character in the first place?

AncientSwordRageIn the first Avengers movie, we find out that Loki has received the Scepter from: Later on in Age of Ultron, it transpires that the Scepter contains, the Mind Stone, one of the Infinity Stones. How does Loki's boss come across this Infinity Stone?

@Marvin @AncientSwordRage FWIW I've had a quick look through some of the usual sources, art of books, for example, and nothing really gives an origin to it in canon

@TheLethalCarrot yeah I couldn't find anything either, so I self answered that non-canon novel

I think that is the only origin we've been given, unfortunately, it's non-canon though
I'll keep having a look for a little while

@TheLethalCarrot Thanks, if you find a better answer I'll be happy to accept yours

I think yours, especially with the quote in it now, is probably the best we're gonna get
Unless they decide to do a Thanos spin off

@TheLethalCarrot thanks for adding it in

No problem
@AncientSwordRage I think you might want to confirm that Tony Stark quote, I'm pretty sure the reddit user is making a joke
Have you seen the film yet?

@TheLethalCarrot I've not seen the film or arrested development
I might re-order those references

Q: Strategy Game - 90s Cyberpunk City Gang Control

MarcusI played this game sometime in the mid to late 90s. It was a turn based game of area control of a cyberpunk city, depicted in a low-res, grayscale 2d image. Q: In a real-life "Truman Show", why would they have the actors perform the exact same tasks robotically each day?

T. KempelThis is not about the movie "Truman Show", but rather about the concept shown in the movie, applied to real life.
