Rather than changing the theme by hand and compiling it for each available theme, is there an easier way to do so such that I can get a PDF presentation for each available theme automatically?
I could write an interactive answer using arara, but the rule won't be semantically correct. The "right" code would be the one used for the upcoming 3.x series. :)
@HarishKumar I will. :) Brent suggested another list iterator called @{items}, so we can have % arara: createbeamer: { items: [ Rochester, CambridgeUS, Boadilla, Warsaw, AnnArbor ] }, with the rule pointing to pdflatex \def\mytheme{@{item}}\input{@{file}}. :)
@PauloCereda: You can have many Martin Scharrer, Stefan Kottwitz, Hertbert, Heiko, Joseph, Ulrike... The list is big. It seems you have to net one of them fast.
@PauloCereda: Createbeamer idea is good. Love to have it with arara.
@HarishKumar Sure! :) We will probably have a test phase (RC code - release candidate) before releasing the GA version (generaly available). I'll keep you informed. :)
I am trying to figure out. My dissertation was in a report class up to now. I just changed the class into memoir and I am trying to see what the differences are.
@JosephWright if you have any suggestions I'd be glad to listen. I can see there are the chapter titles in the headers
@StephanLehmke I deleted all the details in my preamble that would not make it a MINIMAL working example, and the example worked. Now I need to add back everything manually and try to find out the problem myself. I was writing here looking for help, though, and not to have to find the solution myself. You see what I mean?
The description of the Revival badge ("Answered more than 30 days later as first answer scoring 2 or more") indicates that -- contrary to the Necromancer badge -- only one answer to a specific question may earn the badge. However, at tex.sx, Revival badges have been awarded to the answers of user...
Sorry for bumping my questions. I am just trying to retag them the way I deem best. I'll continue with them tomorrow since I have used up my max today!
Good morning to everybody! Is it bad style to answer one's own question? It sometimes happens to me that after a while and inspired by answers of other people I find a good answer to my own question (and prefer it to the other answers). In that case, if just for the sake of completeness, I think I should provide this answer! Is this OK or does it not comply with the Q&A conventions?

@lpdbw It is not bad but at least wait a while.
user19161
The idea is to make this a good Q and A site so you can definitely answer your own questions.
@lpdbw There is a minimal time you have to wait, but self-answers are fine. For example, occasionally it's useful to post a question you know the answer to, so you can post a clear question and answer.
@JosephWright I don't think there's a minimum time constraint. If you ask a new question, you can add the answer on the same page (after checking the "Answer your Own Question" tick box). Maybe there are time restrictions for low-rep users, though?
@JosephWright Seems that users with less than 100 rep have to wait eight hours. With 100 rep, you earn the "Edit community questions" privilege, which also allows immediate self-answers.
@MarcoDaniel: It's not difficult to implement a beamer matrix with arara as it is, but I think it won't be semantically correct, since I was going to exploit @{file} to act as a theme selector. :P For the next release, we will have @{item}, so things will be easier. :)
I want
each "first-time-used" glossary entry to appear in the footnote with its description and

I achieved the first point, but the second one is not always working properly. I have to "play" w...
@PatrickGundlach Some years ago, a famous actress in Brazil had some, well, 'naughty' video posted on YouTube and a court judge decided to censor YouTube in Brazil. Our internet backbones had the YouTube DNS removed and the website was totally off for 3 days, until another judge decided to put YouTube back.
When plotting large values with pgfplots a common factor (e.g. 10^6) is shown on top of the axis.
Is it possible to add a second factor behind this, so that the new label there is for example "*10^6 / *10^8"?
I know how I can change parameters (like the position) using every y tick scale label/....
@JasperLoy Yes, very often I see this. I really don't know who to blame for that. If youtube doesn't have the rights, it must not play the video. The problem is that the music industry (represented through the GEMA) is trying to make money from everything it can (even from kindergartens photocopying children's songs for own use) and that makes a lot of people so angry that the GEMA is the (in their minds) the devil himself.

@DavidCarlisle I just want to know how to get started. I have some R code I'd like to run on a windows machine. I have the code in one directory on my computer. How do I get R into that directory? What do I type in the R prompt to execute the code (a .R file)
sorry I have changed machines since don't have it immediately available but as I recall there was a menu option to load functions from a file, then the function was available to be used at the command prompt
Below is the code in a .r file. I want to execute this from a Windows command prompt, but how?
library(coda)
a <- read.coda("CODAchain1.txt","CODAindex.txt")
out <- capture.output(summary(a))
cat(out,file="out.txt",sep="\n",append=FALSE)
@DavidCarlisle I don't drink, and I've been once or twice. You need to remember to take a book, unless you are involved. (I occasionally score for our work team)
@PauloCereda Depends on your point of view. The authorities are very keen on having 'team colours', etc., to promote the game 'to a wider audience'. The more traditionalist follower/player prefers the idea that everyone wears whites.
@PauloCereda You don't need different colours for the two teams to make the game work
@JosephWright ahm... no. :) I think I almost understood [american] football and rugby, but the only baseball I know is from Super Mario Sluggers. I don't think it's in the rules to be able to throw a turtle shell at the guy with the bat. :P
@PauloCereda one bloke throws the ball at three sticks, if it hits them the bloke with the bat is out and the next person from his side comes out to the wicket, until al have had a go. If not the bloke with the bat tries to hit the ball away and run backwards and forwards until the ball is returned. side with most runs after 5 days wins.
@DavidCarlisle ooh it sounds suspiciously familiar! :) I've played the "backyard cricket" (the Portuguese name has nothing to do with cricket at all - we call it taco or bets ), that one I know. :)
@Canageek I'd prefer a light theme. :) Preferably one with a white background, so the picture doesn't jump from the presentation. :) And that font... well, I'm not a fan. :)
@Canageek I don't know Chemistry but the subscripts appear all over the place H_3C has a big 3 not very low but K_2 C)_3 has small superscripst way below the baseline and H_2O the 2 almost bumps in the text below
@Canageek I think your friend's choice of a serif font does them no favours: the really do not work for overheads. Also, I agree about the dark background not being a good plan: these work poorly on a projector
The frame number also looks out: it's very small compared with the rest of the text, and so far into the corner it might 'fall off' depending on the projector set up.

@GonzaloMedina: Why did you delete your answer: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/68010/… -- Please read the comments above. The op doesn't required tcolorbox.
@DavidCarlisle I suspect I could do the same on Windows using the Command Prompt, but it would take a little while to come up with the correct code :-(
@MarcoDaniel Because I couldn't access the values for the left and right inner margins for the definition of the extra lines to avoid adding 20pt manually. Of course you know how to access those values :-)
@JosephWright Huh, I've always found it much easier to read light on dark text. Will look into light next time though. If I had Beamer themes in powerpoint I'd use light.
@Canageek Traditional slides works quite well with white-on-black, but as they have 'true' black this works well. Modern projectors are not good at solid dark colours.
from a video that someone played on the piano, then recorded it, compressed to youtube, and I played it at my (not so good) computer into my headphones
@tohecz: Now you convinced me! :) I've never paid attention to the lower tones, but now I'm feeling exactly what you mentioned. :) The Yamaha seems more beautiful too, and a good headphone is also in my plans. :)
@GonzaloMedina Oh thanks, I'm trying to learn from a traveler's guide, but there's a lot for me to understand. :) I'm ok with reading and listening to, but composing sentences is still complicated. :) I still need to figure out how to \rotatebox{180}{!}. :)
I have tried two headphones in the store (they let me play some piano and try both). One was KOSS (really good brand) and the other was this Yamaha. And the choice was more than obvious.
@tohecz oh sorry. :) Well, the old piano is giving me headaches because of its age. Strings are breaking, the mechanism is very old... at the end of the day, I'll have to spend too much money on something that I could get rid of and invest the money on something more modern and easy to maintain. :)
yeah, every piano is good unlit some "break point". At that point, you have to either think of it as an antigue and invest money into it, or get rid of it.
TeX.sx occasionally inspires people to be ingeniously creative and write cool packages. Let's have a list of all the CTAN packages that originated in a question on TeX.sx.
I suggest a single CW answer for starters, listing the packages alphabetically, following this pattern:

@JosephWright Will look into it. Mine doesn't like carbines, 4 coordinate boron, or coordination bonds, and really doesn't like it when I mix these things into heterocycles.
@JosephWright This is the paid version of ACD. The free version won't even get that far, is sees the number of carbons or the number of fused rings and stops
I am going to make a poster. I find that there are several possibilities: e.g., beamerposter, a0poster, baposter. Does anyone know which is the best one to make a math poster? Thanks a lot!

(I know that the question is close to not being a regular question, but that does not excuse bad answers.)
I have a question concerning common practice on TeX.sx in the following case: I found a question that exactly describes my current problem. The only answer it got is no solution for me (and also was not for the OP). Should I start a new question or add a comment to the old question or a comment to the old answer?
Well, I think you can start a new one. Even if it gets closed, you bring the attention to the problem. (But don't tell the mods I've advised you this ...)
@JasperLoy It's hard to earn by answers, today, that's true! But it's easy by posting one more more good questions. Even if one has to think, what he may be interested in.
user19161
@PatrickGundlach Actually, they are in chat half the time...
And by the way, if your new question is much better than the previous one (I mean, you can post a priview etc.), it can be agreed that the old one gets closed. But I'm not the one to decide which one gets closed.
Okay, so I'll start a new question, of course referencing the old one. Let's see what happens.
user19161
@tohecz Often I feel that older questions could be closed as duplicate of newer ones if the newer ones are much more well-written, form a proper superset of the older ones, and the older ones don't have good answers.
