@Tezz This is good question

Q: Why did Shiva and Adishakti have to separate to create the universe?

Mihir PathakMany Puranas reference the separation of Shiva and Adishakti in order to create the universe. Adishakti then took many forms (Sati, Parvati, etc.) and each time married Shiva, so they can be united once again. If both entities are so powerful, why did they have to separate in order to create? Why...

@TheDestroyer Yes... Can you answer it?...

@Tezz But answer is not mentioned explicitly in Shiva Purana. Shakti gave her energy to Brahma to create females. But she in Nirakara mingled with Shiva. She in Sakara form born as Sati. So, in manifested form they united.

@TheDestroyer Yes... we can't exactly answer why part... we can just say it's Leela of Shiva Shakti..

Even after giving her energy, Durga exists in Nirakara and she was born. But we can't say that Shiva Shakti were separated in their highest forms.

@TheDestroyer yes... Shiva creates Shakti out of him ... and they create world representing Prakirti and Purusha...

4:55 AM
@Tezz But for others like Vishnu and Lakshmi it is clear, though they have remarriage during Sagara Madanam.

@TheDestroyer Shiva creating Shakti out of him is event before birth of Brahma.... but latter Rudra also replicates the same when he becomes Son of Brahma....

@Tezz Ardanariswara comes from Avimukta region of Brahma.

Q: What is the origin of Ganapathi Atharvasheersh?

gajWhere do we find the Ganapati Atharvasheersh in scriptures? What is the meaning of the word 'Atharvsheersh'. Who is the writer of it (Rishi Ganak or Atharvan)?

@SwiftPushkar It is not in Atharvaveda Samhita... the only Upanishad present in Atharvaveda Samhita is NilaRudra Upanishad... it might be present in Aranyakas of AtharvaVedas which are lost now... so present it's like a independent text...
@SwiftPushkar even Mundaka and Mandukya Upanishads (which are among principle Upanishads) are part of Atharvaveda... but they are like independent text now...

The Muktik─Б (Sanskrit: "deliverance") refers to the canon of 108 Upaniс╣гads. The date of composition of each is unknown, with the oldest probably from about 800 BCE and the youngest probably composed after the 15th-century CE. The Principal Upanishads were composed in the 1st millennium BCE, most Yoga Upanishads composed probably from the 100 BCE to 300 CE period, and seven of the Sannyasa Upanishads composed before the 3rd century CE. == The Canon == The canon is part of a dialogue between Rama and Hanuman. @SwiftPushkar did you finished reading all 9 Upanishads with Shankara Bhasya...
@SwiftPushkar to call it Upanishad it should be from Vedas... we can't simply attach a name Upanishad to a text which fulfills it's name.

10:19 AM
@Tezz - No , finished Isha , reading kena but i have a question about one shloka of kena ЁЯШКI think iwill finish them in 4-5 months but not less than thatЁЯШК

@SwiftPushkar which sloka?..

@Tezz - There is story in kena about Brahman appearing as yaksha before devas Agni ,Vayu and Indra fail to recognize him , then Indra goes to Uma ,she tells indra that the Yaksha was brahman ,he has given you victory in war.

@SwiftPushkar yes, so what's confusion in it?..

@Tezz - Since these 3 first gets the info.abut.brahman they are superior among gods but the godess uma already knows he is brahman among all the gods so how come indra came to know abt.brahman first , uma came to know abt.brahman first .

@SwiftPushkar Uma herself represents the Brahma Vidya there... with her Grace only one can know Brahman... same thing is shown in the story... and Uma herself is also inseparable from Brahman...so Indra became the first there to know about Brahman...

@Tezz - oh ok , i see that's the way it has to be interpreted ok , i will see whether any explnat given by shankara abt.this.and what ЁЯШК

@RakeshJoshi why to reject Lalita Sahasranama?.. it is one of my favourite Stotra...

it says "brahma janani"

10:33 AM
@SwiftPushkar actually the name Uma is formed of letter 'U' 'Ma' 'Aa' and om is made of 'Aa' 'U' 'Ma' ... that's why Uma is called Pranava Dwanda Rupini... (ie . Who represents two forms of Pranava'... )..
2

@RakeshJoshi lalitha Sahasranamam is only Sahasranama in which names are not repeated.

@TheDestroyer since he quoted i asked if he indeed believes that lalita is "brahma janani" or just quoting for "Reps"

Who is rakesh joshi to say that accept this and reject that..Btw i am joking to an extent :D
After a longtime i have downvoted..feels somewhat weird :P
@SreeCharan This is what u have said in a comment-@Rickross Smritis doesn't only mean dharma shastras. The word smriti is used more. Smriti means which is rememberd. So puranas are also smritis. See this post

@RakeshJoshi Obviously yes. Lalitha means literally the one who plays Leela.

@TheDestroyer so you believe something beyond brahman ?

10:50 AM
@SreeCharan Both the Devi Bhagavtam and the Vyasa Smriti mention the Puranas and the Smritis differently..Both say when conflicts appear between the two acceot what the Smritis say and reject what the Puranas say..Then how can u say the Puranas are Smritis?

@Rickross if smritis and puranas have contradictions with vedas then how come people say puranas are pancham veda or puranas explain vedas?
@Rickross acccept or reject what

Krishna was worried that if he continued arguing with Parthasarathy Raghavan he would be committing Bhagavata Apacharam (offending a fellow Vaishnava). So he decided to quit the site.

@Tezz Ok

@Rickross ^^^

@Tezz - oh , grt info ЁЯСНЁЯСН A star to this comment тЬб

@SwiftPushkar great information about which thing.. ?..

10:55 AM
Ok but that excuse sounds lame to me :D..Instead of leaving the site alltogether he cud have simply stopped arguing with the other user..

@Rickross Only if they talked in this room recently. Not all users.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok..Thanks..

@Tezz - Uma ,pranava dwanda rupini

@Rickross it was a fun to argue with him... I argued with him twice...
@SwiftPushkar Oh ok... Thanks!...

@Tezz @Rickross Yeah. I used to get serious with him sometimes.

10:58 AM
Will be back in ЁЯФЩЁЯФД some time...

@TheDestroyer haha yes... ЁЯШАЁЯША

@Tezz Ok..for me its like banging ur head against the wall..:D Eventually it will be ur head which will bleed..:P
@RakeshJoshi Sorry i am not into polemics using Shastras.

@Rickross yeah... similar... but in both of our debates we came to healthy ending... ЁЯШАЁЯША

@Rickross what i m asking and what you are replying ?

@TheDestroyer @Tezz @RakeshJoshi Bye for the time being..catch u later..

11:01 AM
@Tezz Haha. For me no healthy results. User Krishna can't see other Devas in good light, especially Shiva. See he interprets Mahadeva in ramayana with Varuna.

@RakeshJoshi Oh really..i will revisit ur mssgs later :)

@Rickross Ok bye... see you again...

@Rickross Rakesh Joshi is against Vedanta and he is more into Agama. He is stauch critic of Adi Shankara.

@TheDestroyer Virodhi BhaktiЁЯШАЁЯША...

BTW The Destroyer u are doing a great job as MOD..:) i have seen ur recent thread on META..
@TheDestroyer Ok..Vedanta the philosophy or Upanishads?
@Tezz Yes bye..

11:04 AM
@Rickross Thanks! we all (Mods) decided to revise rules as some rules are unclear and moreover community as a whole should decide rules.

2 hours later…
12:59 PM
@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan Why we rejected teachings of Buddha? As he didn't believe in Vedas?

@TheDestroyer Yes same reason... also doctrines of Anatman etc.. and so on..

1:12 PM
@Tezz Is Sastra Pramana highest in Vedanta?

@TheDestroyer when something can't be deduced by Pratakshya Pramana (like law of Karma) then one should look Sabda Pramana for final knowledge....

@Tezz Ohh. how pratyaksha is law of Karma? Pratyaksha not personal experiences?

@TheDestroyer one can't say that Law of Karma is 100% right through personal experiences.. we need authority of Sabda Pramana on this...

@Tezz between pratyaksha and Sabda, which is preferred in Vedanta?

@TheDestroyer Sabda Pramana (of Vedas) is the final authority because Pratakshya experience can be illusory also...
Sep 29 '16 at 17:17, by Keshav Srinivasan
@Tezz But the point is, no matter how much information you have about your past actions, it will never be enough to prove or disprove the law of karma. So because it is beyond the realm of what can be proven through Pratyaksha Pramana, it is a subject that can be known through Sabda Pramana.

1:18 PM
@Tezz Ok.

@TheDestroyer Keshava and me discussed about how law of karma cant be approved by Pratakshya Pramana... see above discussions....^^^
Sep 29 '16 at 17:18, by Keshav Srinivasan
@Tezz There is a hierarchy of Pramanas. Anumana Pramana is only applicable to things which cannot be known through Pratyaksha Pramana. Sabda Pramana is only applicable to things which cannot be known through either Pratyaksha Pramana or Anumana Pramana.

@Tezz Ok. I will see. I think we can move your chat to discussions. It's easy to fetch.

@TheDestroyer what is meant by that... moving chat to discussions?..

@Tezz We can move some chat messages to discussions.
For example, if we discuss about a topic continuously.we can name those messages as discussion on a "topic A" or something. Later, it can be referred easily.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok... I understand it now..

1:25 PM
Suman asked his question again.
0
Q: what to do when vow has broken by a person?

sumanWhat to do when vow has broken by a person? Can any prayaschit is there for breaking a vow??? Here the vow maker taken a vow without knowing anything about it. Now what kind of punishment must the aspirant undergo for the breakage of such vow???

@TheDestroyer haha lol..
There are Prayaschits for every Karmas. You need not to be so afraid concerning it... — Tezz 23 secs ago

@Tezz or he can go now to temple immediately.

1:45 PM
@RakeshJoshi The first reject/accept comment was meant for Destroyer who said u supposedly told that Lalita Sahasranama shd be rejected..The 2nd reject/accept comment was for Sree Charan..
@RakeshJoshi There are some contradictions only not many..possibly they are only apparent..possibly they are hinting towards two different things..For the most part all Shastras like the Smritis,Puranas etc are Veda Moolak (which have Vedas as their roots)..
@RakeshJoshi BTW i have asked a Q on the Shabar mantras..U may have a look at it..I think u are a mantra vaadi..:)
@TheDestroyer But i don't think its right to downvote whn u simply disagree..Ideally one shud downvote(an answer) only when one knows for sure that answer is wrong..Isn't it?
In any case i prefer to follow the Ahimsa VAAdi path when it comes to down voting..:D

2:02 PM
@Rickross Namaskaram. Yes, I remember your answer on Sabar Mantra. So, are all the Sabar mantras related to Nath Sampradaya?

@Rickross this is not new ... every one tries to prove their sect as vedic ... to make it look more authentic. even many smriti kaaras would have done the same ..

even the so called vaishnava agama people are also trying to validate them by tracing them to the vedic shakhas !!

2:22 PM
But that's what many people do on this site. if they disagree with your interpretation. they downvote it. But offcial rules say "When should I vote down?

Use your downvotes whenever you encounter an egregiously sloppy, no-effort-expended post, or an answer that is clearly and perhaps dangerously incorrect.

You have a limited number of votes per day, and answer down-votes cost you a tiny bit of reputation on top of that; use them wisely."
So, we should follow the same way. karma should work.

3:04 PM
@Pandya Yes they are apparently..but i am not an expert on this topic..I actually want to know if these mantras need regular initiation or not..I think they shd need Deeksha coz they are also part of a Sampradaya..
@Pandya Same to u :)

@Rickross I think we can find it in the books related to Natha Sampradayas...

@RakeshJoshi I don't differentiate between Scriptures so i don't see one as inferior to other etc..Parameswara creates all Shastras depending on our need..So i don't think there is any need to do that..But u r right..people r trying to prove,for eg, that the panchratra agama achamana is a Vedic one..now this is laughable..Its the same if i say that the Srividya Tatva achamana(Atma Tatvam Shodayami swaha one) is Vedic achamana..
@Tezz Yes ..so if someone has read any of those books he can answer my question..

@Rickross Do you not differentiate between Shruti and Smriti as well? I'm curious to know

3:54 PM
@Rickross @RakeshJoshi If you keep aside your fanatic thoughts you can see that sage narayana himself converted ekayana shakha into pancharatra agamas to preserve it

4:33 PM
@ChinmayaB fanatic thoughts? How are they fanatic? What is fanatic in their thoughts? BTW, if they really belonged to vedic Sakha, that would be well known to all Scholars and every Hindu would alone worship Vishnu as Supreme as they belonged to Vedas, and i don't think Adi Shankara would reject Pancharatra Agamas.
Ekam Sat vipra Bahuda vadanti.

@Rickross @TheDestroyer Is not the statement "now this is laughable" rooted in fanaticism?
@ChinmayaB ^^
@TheDestroyer making indefensible statements that attempt to discredit without acceptable evidence is indeed a form of fanaticism. I don't think there can be much disagreement in this.

@anuvaramban Well, then citing without evidence they belong to Vedic Sakha is also fanaticism.
@anuvaramban btw, fanaticism is showing excessive zeal towards a particular phiosophy or interpretation. But i don't think above statement of Ricross is fanatical. It may not be respectful.

@TheDestroyer Narayanopanishad, Purusha Suktam say Shriman Narayana is only bramhan. I will provide you evidence I am.not a self proclaimed pundit like many people here so I need to find evidence

@TheDestroyer so you accept my definition of fanaticism to make your first statement but don't accept the very same defintion in the second statement!

@ChinmayaB Sri Rudram says Girisha, Shipivishta and Meedustama . So, even i can cherry pick verses to prove Supremacy of Shiva.

4:46 PM
@TheDestroyer Doing apman of pancharatra traditional is equal to disrespect of vaishnavism That is Fanatic stuff

@TheDestroyer The same argument can be used to question the shruti nature of the vedas, i do not think your argument thus is valid in this sense.

Girsisha is Rudra, Shipisvihsta is Vushnu and Meedustama is Brahma.

@TheDestroyer Shiva is greatest bhagwata no offense to a guru who follows Vaishnava parampara. Ahirbudhnya is an avatar of shiva who is one of the rishis of pancharatra samhita known as ahirbudhnya samhita
@TheDestroyer hrischa te laxmischa patnyoho ahoratre parshve nakshatrani rupam ashvino vyaataama... narayana is only bramhan

@ChinmayaB We have discussed this many times. We should say intepretation. Saying Vedas say Narayana is alone Brahman is wrong. We should say "vaishnavas believe Narayana is Supreme". I can cherrypick thousands of verses from vedas and apply without any context and claim Superiority of Rudra.
@ChinmayaB Rudra is truly one; for the knowers of Brahman do not admit the existence of a second, He alone rules all the worlds by His powers. He dwells as the inner Self of every living being. After having created all the worlds, He, their Protector, takes them back into Himself at the end of time. [Svetasvatara Upanishad 3.2]
RUDRA IS ONLY BRAHMAN>

@TheDestroyer This is basically a false equivalency - Vaishnava Agamas as far as historical memory is concerned has always been associated with a Vedic Sakha. Is this even true for Shaiva Agamas? Given the absence of evidence of the kind you are suggesting, it is not a laughable claim at least as far as Vaishnava Agamas are in consideration.

4:52 PM
@anuvaramban No it is rooted in knowledge if i can say that..That Agamas are different from Sruti is a fact known to me ..I may not be knowing so many of other things but i know this much..I am surprised that some of u are seeing my post from that perspective..

@TheDestroyer please by all means cherry pick, we can see if it stands scrutiny in the right context.

@anuvaramban Vedas are standard scriptures. Every school of Hinduism revers them. Now one school can't claim there is a shakha for Pancharatra Agamas.

@anuvaramban I don't differentiate in this sense-all Shastras are there for a purpose..All of them are orders of God..to discuss the supremacy of one over other is like bossing over God..

@anuvaramban If there was really a Shakha, other school should agree with them.
How can other schools don't know this?

@TheDestroyer Agama is different from Sruti..This is common knowledge..So,that is enough to prove my point..

4:55 PM
@anuvaramban You can read yourself and understand.

@TheDestroyer but given its historically proven track record of being claimed as descended from Vedic Sakha, it is far more plausible connection than as compared to Shaiva Agamas which cannot make even such a claim since historic memory doesn't back it. Thus anumana dictates the connection exists.
@TheDestroyer please give reference for the verse you quoted, i would like to see its context.

@anuvaramban You are already assuming that memory is true and making the point.
@anuvaramban I don't remember the scripture. i think it's commentary by a Vaishanva Acharya.

@TheDestroyer On the contrary, the silence of other sects can be seen an indication that this connection is verily truth. The point is calling historical memory as something to laugh at is disrespectful towards Vedas as well.
@TheDestroyer Too vague.

@anuvaramban Nityanada says there is Shiva Samhita in VEdas which is source of all Shaiva Agamas. He calls Vedaagamas. You can see the video of Rajiv malhotra and Swami Nityanada. But i have the same Skepticism about this claim.

@Rickross that still doesn't answer the question to be honest.

5:00 PM
@anuvaramban You can check this room. Keshav gave me link.
let me search.

@anuvaramban Which question ?

Shaiva Agamas were given by Lord Shiva & Vedic verses by seers. Do you believe Lord Shiva any low than Vedic seers?

@Rickross Are you saying Shruti and Smriti have equal claim because they are both scriptures

@Rickross Do you know any Shiva Samhita in Vedas other than Shiva Samhita of Yoga?

@Seeker Do the shaiva agamas not revere the vedas? Are you saying Shiva disrespects the vedas now?

5:03 PM
@anuvaramban Shaiva Agamas doesn't conflict Vedas. Shaiva Agamas are to Vedas is what programming languages to Algorithms.

@anuvaramban Again, you are believing interpretation as Vedas itself. You should be clear. interpretation or true meaning of Vedas? Shiva won't disrespect any Vedas.

And we already have lost many branches of Vedas, so we should accept every authentic eternal knowledge as Vedic.

@anuvaramban I am not differentiating between them like u are doing..I am saying all are important in their context because all of them creation of Parameswara..But that Sruti is more authoritative than Smriti is well known..

@Seeker @TheDestroyer Then why make such claims in the comment this is replying to?

@anuvaramban Ekam Sat Vipra Bahuda Vadanti. It is very clear.

5:05 PM
@Rickross How to interpret the first line of your linked comment otherwise

@anuvaramban I don't know what knowledge u have about Agamas..but Agamas are not Srutii(i.e Vedas) but they don't contradict Vedas too..(for the most part)

to quote your earlier comment, "@RakeshJoshi I don't differentiate between Scriptures so i don't see one as inferior to other etc"
@Rickross

Vedas include all changeless eternal knowledge, we should either accept all eternal changeless knowledge as Vedic or accept Vedas are not complete. In formar case, we are no more left with Agamic rivalry.

@TheDestroyer then please provide reference to the Vaishnava Acharya you were earlier referring to

@TheDestroyer No ..But NO Agamas are part of any Vedas..they are different Shastras..Otherwise why wud they have a different name? And this apply to all Agamas..Agamas are not Sruti text..

5:08 PM
@anuvaramban It's Vedanta Desikan Commentary which shows Supremacy of Vishu. You can search this room or ask Yogi or Keshav.

@Rickross Again that is your claim, it has no historical backing in the same sense of historical memory as Pancaratra!

@anuvaramban Yes that's exactly my opinion..

@anuvaramban Different people differ on status of Agamas. Some say they are Sruti but some don't consider them as Sruti.

@anuvaramban No it isn't merely my claim..Its more or less COMMON KNOWLeDGE>..Agamas are not Sruti..

@Rickross if Agamic knowledge is true & separate from Vedas at the same time, doesn't it imply then Vedas are not complete?

5:12 PM
@Rickross then why do you say that it is laughable claim when no contradiction is found in any text regarding the historical claim that pancaratra agamas are associated with a vedic sakha just because no such claim is found with Shaiva Agamas?

@Seeker Yes, you can say like that...But Agamas are also considered as the essence of the Vedas just like the Upanishads are..But the Agamas are of special importance in Kali Yuga..Because supposedly Vedic mantras are not working in this age..

@anuvaramban btw, if you see that commentary in future, i suggest you to read, neutral commentary of Sri Rudram before that commentary. Or atleast read meaning of Sri Rudram without any commentary/

Even Vedas don't mention theory on Yug cycles. If Yug theory is true, it also implies Vedas are incomplete as Vedas don't mention this eternal true knowledge.

@Seeker Seeker, Vedas are like blue prints. They don't mention particular things such as Yugas, kalpas. kalpa is understood as previous cycle in Vedas.

Yes @Rickross I too believe the same but Moreover I haven't found any Shaiva Agama yet in conflict with the Vedas. I think Vedas are incomplete in Kaliyuga

5:14 PM
@anuvaramban That was laughable because Agamas are not Sruti and that achamana is nowhere to be found in the Vedas..But there are indeed Vedic achamana mantras..I know a few of them..

Yes @TheDestroyer I think the same. Agamas are expansion of Vedic knowledge.

@Seeker Yes Veda mantras are not working now..that's why Parameswara created the Agamas..I have read somewhere that Veda mantras will only work in a country where cows are not slaughtered..Now,that is reason enough to know why Vedas are like poison less snakes in Kali..
@Seeker Agamas don't contradict the Vedas..

@anuvaramban Let me tell you what many people do. Few people put objective thinking, rest of them support their philosophies in which they are born. But i am not against it. That's their Swadharma. Swadharma is important than Paradharma. But problem arises when they impose their philosophies on others. Like, ambiguous statemnts, which say, Vishnu alone is Brahman and All Veda mantras inherently worship Vishnu. they should rather say it as interpretation than actual facts.
That's the reason i asked to add perspective in answers when i joined this site in intial days
@anuvaramban btw, Sanskrit doesn't have proper nouns. All names in Sanskrit are attributes. You can verify this statement with any Sanskrit Scholar.

@anuvaramban My opinion on this topic(Sruti-Smriti) coincides with what Sri Chandrasekhara Swaraswati Swami has to say in his book :kamakoti.org/hindudharma/part15/chap8.htm

5:46 PM
@Rickross this is tricky point ... that not ALL THE shastras are genuine ... many of them are man made or written wrongly on someone's name .
@ChinmayaB this is not fanatism but ISKCON have made many fanatics instead ...

@RakeshJoshi Namaste!!!

@Rickross so does this mean there was no agamas in previous yugas or were agamic procedires not followed?

@RakeshJoshi my father also worship Shakti. He believe in Maa Durga a lot
