@badp cc @chucktingle
pounded by the falling value of the pound after generational warfare at the ballot box

Is that a push mower welded onto a bike frame?

@TimStone yes

12:05 AM
Huh

@badp @PrivatePansy Thanks! Now, with all that said... It sounds like maybe it's good that May loses? Or am I missing something there too?

@Fluttershy it's unclear that if may loses, then the UK will get a better PM

@TimStone he started a hastag for it too

Q: How many hearts will I eventually get?

CoomieI have always played games as a "completionist", trying to find every achievement and unlock. In previous games I've gone out of my way to get all 20 hearts. How many hearts should I expect to unlock in Breath of the Wild?

@Dragonrage I have seen this a couple times today. I hope it's someone being a troll because the alternative horrified me

@Dragonrage i don't know if i should be laughing or concerned for what's going to happen in a crash and the airbag deploys

my girlfriend is all about crystals
also PAYDAY 2 is free on steam today

@GnomeSlice permanent free like the game @Frank posted about earlier in the week?

I think so

ok. not really into multiplayer games but i am into getting permanent free shit
speaking of getting something for Free. Life is Strange Season Pass is free for Playstation Plus this month
so that's episodes 2-5 since episode 1 is free anyway

2:20 AM
@Memor-X yeah they're giving 5 million copies away or whatever
They introduced a mechanic that allows ai players to give you bonuses, so I might pick it back up for solos
But then again it's a giant game and I have way more on my plate than "I want to solo Firestarter"
Or whatever, art gallery maybe
I was going to say big oil but the consensus on solo stealth there is "open the game up to players when the helicopter arrives and yell 'LOUD PLEASE, HELPHELPHELP' in chat"
As much fun as big oil is

@Dragonrage wut
I knew how to get to Qdoba before I knew how to get to work in this new area

Q: How to get a good start on being a CEO? (GTA V)

AfumAlright, so I am just starting to want to be a CEO in Grand Theft Auto V Online and I was wondering, how do I get a good start to this job? @Unionhawk i can't tell, did he get boob?
kinda looks like he stops sort

@Dragonrage ... How big is that steering wheel?

@GodEmperorDune just a darwin award waiting to happen
@Yuuki normal size for a pt cruiser afaik

@Dragonrage I don't know what's going on, it just feels overlarge.

maybe, but if they are ever in an accident and their airbags deploy they are going to be in serious trouble
i mean, they essentially turned their airbag into a claymore

@Dragonrage not really, more like grapeshot with gravel
or did you mean claymore explosive, not claymore 2 handed sword?

user15026
2:51 AM
@Memor-X I....no. That's not what we should be asking here.

@Ash i agree

@Dragonrage No no you don't get it the crystals will save them with their healing energies

@Ash unless the lizardman hivemind sabotage them

True, true

> Kate Hoey, one of the most prominent pro-leave Labour MPs, has won again in Vauxhall with a hefty majority of over 20,000. She won with 31,522 votes, pushing her Lib Dem challenger George Turner into a distant second on 11,326.
wait people in Labour are pro-leave?

2:55 AM
I mean Cameron and May were technically pro-remain
THEIRS IS A RICH POLITICAL TAPESTRY

Here's how it rolls: 1. Hung Parliament 2. Queen calls for Quidditch joust. 3. Marshall of Supreme Court issues indictment 4. PM HR Clinton

I think we created the entire top 5 political fuck ups in history just in the last 2 years

user15026

user15026
that face I can't

ha
nice

And I'm not sure where "snap election to gain a mandate then you lose the majority" falls
I think that falls somewhere between "declaring a referendum for an issue you oppose then losing" and "Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination"

why is this always the topic now
like this sucks

Because everything is on fire all the time

3:09 AM
no

Something is on fire all the time
Statistically speaking

go talk about it somewhere elllllllse like even im invested in politics this time but seriously man

user15026
@Unionhawk Stupid question but is there a better/preferred outcome here?

honestly

user15026
(I know less about how the UK does the thing than I do about how the US does the thing and that's saying something)

3:12 AM
@GnomeSlice evening bridge was usually dead before we started talking politics

meh

Yo, is this where the election talk is?

hue
kinda sorta

user15026
Intermittently :)

user15026
(I'm just not sure what outcome is the "yay" and which one is the "oh god it's on fire" and like...what this changes. Can it undo Brexit?)

user15026
3:13 AM
(sorry, I am just curious and simple english wikipedia is not enough here)

@Ash probably not

Well at this point nobody knows what it changes

@badp Lib Dems are technically the fourth party these days.

It probably changes the PM but then again maybe it doesn't

@Ash It's ... complicated.

3:14 AM
but the hope is that trying political stunts keeps backfiring, then maybe people will stop trying them

user15026
@Randal'Thor That's kinda all I do know :P

We'll see when real results come in

user15026
I want to try to understand, but I kinda keep getting confused :/ so I feel bad about that

This snap election was called by the incumbent PM (who is in favour of a "hard Brexit") in order to try to win her party a massive majority. The opposing candidate, who's been vilified by the press for years, has fought a strong campaign and his party is now winning seat after seat as the results come in. Then there are the more minor parties, most of which are strongly pro-Remain.
@GnomeSlice That room's deleted ...

3:18 AM
You're a mod. Undelete it

user15026
So she thought she had a thing, and now it looks like she might not have a thing?

@Randal'Thor but is it realistic to expect the other parties to form a coalition with labor?

okay guys seriously
like you all get to ask that conversations be stopped and we always do it

@GnomeSlice I ain't an Arqade mod. I'll leave it to @Ash to decide.

im so sick of trump talk
and brexit talk

3:20 AM
Technically this is neither :-)

whatever man

user15026
@GodEmperorDune If they do, what does that mean?

user15026
(I feel like such a turnip about this stuff, I'm so sorry :/)

@Ash well exit polls say tie
So
Idk then what

@Ash Should we move to another room as GS asks, or keep talking politics here?

3:22 AM
@Ash as i understand it, whoever controls parliament has their person become Prime Minister and appoints agency heads

they aren't gonna do it

Either way it's hilarious that conservatives called for this then lost seats

user15026
@GodEmperorDune Like how Canada does the thing?

@Ash afaik probably?

3:24 AM
@Ash maybe? (i dunno how canada does the thing)

Considering you have a pm and they have a pm and I'm not entirely familiar with how that works because president

user15026
@Unionhawk Not going to lie that's part of why I'm comparing them because I'm like well, we used to do the thing with them and still kinda because Queen so maybe we took this too?

@Ash prob

(i can't speak for the accuracy of this, but fingers crossed)

3:27 AM
The main thing I'm curious about is if exits are right, and if lib Dems etc vote with labour, and it's a tie, what then

... OK, since we all seem to be ignoring GnomeSlice's requests ...
@GodEmperorDune Much more realistic than them forming a coalition with the Tories, IMO. Both the SNP and the Lib Dems are pro-Remain, which would surely make the Tories hard for them to stomach. (But again, who the hell knows. As of right now, I think all bets are off.)

Trial by combat?

user15026
@GodEmperorDune Okay that kinda helped even if they made some grammar/spelling etc mistakes

@Ash It could mean (shocker!) Jeremy Corbyn as PM.

A zip-line (or zip line, zipline, Sypline, zip wire, aerial runway, aerial ropeslide, death slide, flying fox, or foefie slide in South Africa) consists of a pulley suspended on a cable, usually made of stainless steel, mounted on a slope. It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to travel from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable by holding on to, or attaching to, the freely moving pulley. Zip-lines come in many forms, most often used as a means of entertainment. They may be short and low, intended for child's play and found on some playgrounds. Longer and higher rides are often...

A napkin, serviette or face towelette is a rectangle of cloth used at the table for wiping the mouth and fingers while eating. It is usually small and folded, sometimes in intricate designs and shapes. The word comes from Middle English, borrowing the French nappe—a cloth covering for a table—and adding -kin, the diminutive suffix. == Terminology == "Serviette" can be heard in the United Kingdom, Ireland, some parts of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya and South Africa. In Australia and New Zealand, "serviette" generally refers to the paper variety and "napkin" refers to the cloth variety....
A watch is a small timepiece intended to be carried or worn by a person. It is designed to keep working despite the motions caused by the person's activities. A wristwatch is designed to be worn around the wrist, attached by a watch strap or other type of bracelet. A pocket watch is designed for a person to carry in a pocket. Watches evolved in the 17th century from spring-powered clocks, which appeared as early as the 14th century. During most of its history the watch was a mechanical device, driven by clockwork, powered by winding a mainspring, and keeping time with an oscillating balance wheel...

Sign B2b is a red circle with a red inverted triangle with either a white or yellow background, and the inscription "STOP" in either black or dark blue. The Convention allows for the word "STOP" to be in either English or the national language of the particular country...

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from the Coffea plant. A cigar is a tightly-rolled bundle of dried and fermented tobacco leaf, rolled in a series of types and sizes, that is ignited so that its smoke may be drawn into the mouth. Cigar tobacco is grown in significant quantities in a lot of places, including: Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Panama, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canary Islands (Spain), Italy and the Eastern United States. The origins of cigar smoking are still unknown. In Guatemala, a ceramic pot dating back to the tenth century features a Mayan smoking tobacco leaves...

@Unionhawk oh, wikipedia, you really do have everything

@GodEmperorDune How do you mean? They can't exactly call another general election any time soon (well, technically maybe they could, but that would smell of "keep voting until we get the result we want").

In context of spaceflight, a satellite is an artificial object which has been intentionally placed into orbit. Such objects are sometimes called artificial satellites to distinguish them from natural satellites such as Earth's Moon. In 1957 the Soviet Union launched the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. Since then, about 6,600 satellites from more than 40 countries have been launched. According to a 2013 estimate, 3,600 remained in orbit. Of those, about 1,000 were operational; while the rest have lived out their useful lives and became space debris. Approximately 500 operation...

Laminate flooring (also called floating wood tile in the United States) is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product fused together with a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood (or sometimes stone) with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer. The inner core layer is usually composed of melamine resin and fiber board materials. There is a European Standard No. EN 13329:2000 specifying laminate floor covering requirements and testing methods. Laminate flooring has grown significantly in popularity, perhaps because it may be easier to install and maintain than more...

@GodEmperorDune I know here we have a minority government with whoever has the mostest seats being the in charge one

I'm pretty sure the queen can call for a duel to settle things

I give up
goodbye

user15026
@Unionhawk I could see this.

@GodEmperorDune A minority government, I suppose.
God only knows what would happen with the EU negotiations then.

3:32 AM
My assumption is they proceed
No matter the outcome
But who knows

Yeah, but how much of a shambles are they going to be?

Let's figure out who the fuck is the pm first
And who all thought this was a good idea

A duel between May and Corbyn?
Or, no, who knows if May will be the Tory leader for much longer.

i heard boris was going to run again

Oh god

3:34 AM
The Tories are exceptionally skilled at backstabbing, as they showed after the last election.

double trump

@GodEmperorDune Yeah :-/
Apparently Sturgeon is claiming tonight has been "a victory for the SNP".
HA HA.

@Unionhawk There could be an immediate call for a vote of no confidence in the minority government, which if it succeeds, requires the minority government to gain confidence within 14 days or another general election is held

@TimStone OMFG

That last bit was put in place by the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011, which incidentally May's party manifesto intended to abolish

3:38 AM
So there really could be another general election in the immediate future?

user15026
@TimStone Elections all the way dooooown

Yeah, assuming a coalition isn't formed or support otherwise gathered
The Lib-Dems have preemptively refused to form a coalition, but people say all sorts of stuff on election day so who knows

@TimStone "who knows" basically covers everything at this stage.

So it's Theresa May with a plurality but not majority
Probably
Or, wait no

It's going to be a turbulent few days.

3:42 AM
With 50% exactly unless they lose a seat from exits
But still as a giant failure who expected to make massive gains
Which owns super hard

Yeah, I don't see them letting May remain after this unless the counts drastically change

Somebody has to say "no you are not allowed to fuck up that badly and remain"
Then again, that's part of the difference between UK conservatives and us republicans lol

For the first time ever, there are more Tory MPs than pandas in Scotland #GE2017

Also inb5 the shitty thinkpiece on how not voting conservative means you hate feminism tomorrow or whatever
That's just a copy paste from when le pen lost

4:00 AM
> 600/650 seats declared
And Con would need 37 of those 50 to get a majority.

something we can all get behind

@GodEmperorDune i meant a claymore explosive. its using black/gun powder to deploy the air bag, so its basically an explosive device that launches shrapnel at your face.

@Memor-X And then global warming.

@Dragonrage yeah we are in agreement then

but, i mean, if you want, we could have a claymore filled claymore

4:07 AM
@Dragonrage that's a pretty big claymore

a bomb that launches broardswords at people would be kind of terrifying

Last weeks news today with @TimStone
it even got 7 stars :P

I know, but people made more as a contest to be worst :P

oh
i didnt see that part

4:15 AM
any PHP Programmers here? i am wondering what kind of format is best for a settings file. like serialized string or json or xml or whatever

@Memor-X JSON works. Laravel uses a plain PHP file that defines an array

@Memor-X @Wipqozn. but he goes to sleep at like 5:30pm

You can also use .env for environment specific config. There's a library to help manage that

4:28 AM
@PrivatePansy yeh i don't think i'd need to mess with environment config. what i'm looking to do is get a php selenium script i wrote to use a settings file which will list all of a Wiki's pages, their url, the file the page as been downloaded to, the last time it was downloaded and the last time the wiki recorded the page had been modified as well as general operation settings like the base url, flags for downloading images or process template pages and folder paths dirs
like i could hardcode the settings in the script but then it's a bit of a bitch to maintain

Mmmhmm, is this a simple script or does it use composer with an autoloader?

@PrivatePansy simple script mainly

Q: How do I catch wild animals for elixirs?

CoomieThere are some quick critters around that I want to add to elixirs, but they're too fast for me. I can easily catch frogs, but fireflies, fairys and lizards are so fast. How do I catch them?

In that case since everything runs in the global namespace you can simply have a config file set a global variable
Not particularly elegant, but should be simple enough

user15026
I just...there is such an interesting mix of personalities in that photo.

user15026
I can't stop looking at the elmo-ish person and how the one eye has....problems

user15026
Why do they all have ribbons? Why are some of them comically large?

@Ash It's how you can identify a politician
The comically large one is the guy from the Monster Raving Loony Party
The Official Monster Raving Loony Party is a registered political party established in the United Kingdom in 1983 by the musician David Sutch, better known as "Screaming Lord Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow" or simply "Lord Sutch". It is notable for its deliberately bizarre policies and it effectively exists to satirise British politics, and to offer itself as an alternative for protest voters, especially in constituencies where the party holding the seat is unlikely to lose it and everyone else's vote would be quietly wasted. == History == Starting in 1963, David Sutch, head of Screaming Lord Sutch...

user15026
@fredley oh you weren't joking that's actually what it is called what the heck I am so confused

user15026
6:22 AM
What about the one in the elmo-ish Muppet suit

@Ash ROFL
The Monster Raving Loony Party gets that reaction a lot.

user15026
Elmo got votes. Buckethead got votes. I just. What. This has not cleared up my understanding of how you guys elect a person.

@Ash Are the candidates in the picture actually candidate that got votes, or are they obliged to allow them to appear on stage because they registered as a candidate?
I suspect it's the latter - especially since Theresa May is there

user15026
6:39 AM
The article says they got votes

user15026
Well it mentions some of them did like Elmo and Buckethead

@Ash Thought voting for Corbyn was the "rebel" way to go? Nah, if you're a real rebel, you vote for "Lord Buckethead" over the incumbent prime minister.

user15026
6:52 AM

"Our dearest muslim friend, by America, Tayyip was assigned to split and break turkey. He's doing this mission. NO"
And a ton of US politicians in the bottom
I love it. Let's blame "foreign forces" for our idiot.
(Actually no, there's 2 rows apparently, top row is US politicians, bottom is turkish)

@Avery I like how they try to suggest that Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can stop attacking each other long enough to try and destabilize Turkey

I opened up their site

Or even how they assume Turkey is important enough to bother interfering with

9:24 AM
they're calling trump the "new demon"

SteveFestI've been working on an "infinite elytra flight" thingy and came across into an issue. I want to make the player goes up when reaching a certain distance from the ground. I know I can use these sorts of command: /testfor @p [x=coord y=coord z=coord] However, I want to detect a player's relati...

@Lazers2.0 Who keeps downvoting good questions?

@MBraedley If they don't show effort, they get a downvote.

@MBraedley eh downvotes happen for a lot of reasons. As long as it's not a close vote I wouldn't be too concerned.

@Frank I think they showed some effort. They have a clearly defined problem, a clearly defined end goal, and have shown at least some research into commands.

@MBraedley All I see is, "Hey, I know this might work, but it doesn't do what I want. What will?"

And it looks like a fun problem to tackle, precisely because it's a hard problem to tackle.
@Frank Because you don't understand the problem space.

12:08 PM
@MBraedley Understanding problem space or not, they've made zero effort to solve it themselves.

I disagree

If they have, they haven't demonstrated it.

The starting point for this problem is so abstract for a beginner command blocker that if you can't look at it the right way, you're never going to see it. I, being an intermediate/experienced command blocker, who was looking in the right direction, saw a potential solution right away.

Degree of difficulty does not absolve the asker from attempting to solve it.

You know
It's fine to disagree about downvotes
You don't even have to explain them at all unless you want to

12:20 PM
The reason we criticize unresearched problems is because they're usually easy to solve with a google search. Those are the types of questions we don't want on the site, and the types of questions we don't want on the site get downvoted. We want good, hard problems to solve on the site, which means I'm willing to forgive someone not doing an extensive amount of research.
Having good questions, regardless of the amount of research put into them beforehand, is more important.

I would disagree with that. I want people to show effort, regardless of the difficulty.

This is a good question, and the reason it's good is because it's hard.

I'm not looking for much. Just an attempt.
Only when none is shown do I downvote.

@Frank He did show effort. He's shown effort towards completing the rest of his project, and is having trouble with one little bit, which just happens to be the hard bit.

I mean I don't play Minecraft and I know even less about the commands but IMO the user did some research. He wanted to do a specific thing, researched the commands that might work in a situation like this and now needs help understanding the command. Or am I misunderstanding something here?

12:24 PM
He has not demonstrated any effort to solve this specific problem. All we have is his word that it's part of a bigger project.

@Jutschge That's not exactly how I would characterize it.

I see that as the equivalent of writing code, it doesn't do exactly what you want, so you go ask on SO.
Without debugging, testing, or changing your code at all.

@Frank Directly? Maybe not. But if you look at the criteria for how to ask a good question, that is the only one that's being violated.

@Frank IMHO, he has, because he has tried the /testfor command and can't get it to work for himself, so he's asking for something that does work which he might have missed

@MBraedley Okay, so we're on the same page, and just come to different conclusions.
That's fine.

12:27 PM
@Frank Well then maybe you should comment on the question as such.

I've commented my generic zero effort; if he updates it with any attempts at all, I'll remove my downvote.

All I'm saying is, as one of the "experts" in this space on the site, while it may look like he hasn't put much effort into solving his problem, I say he has put in at least enough to not garner a downvote.

@Frank There are over 60 different commands for command blocks. You can't honestly expect someone to know all of them. That's like expecting someone to know all the HTML5 tags

And all I'm saying is, he doesn't demonstrate that effort.

especially as a beginner

12:30 PM
@Nzall I don't. I expect him to show an attempt.
I expect him to at least google something, and try it out. And show that here.
I want to see effort. I don't see that here.

@Frank Just because you can't recognize that effort in a problem space you're not intimately familiar with doesn't mean it didn't happen.

@Frank And he did: he has found the /testfor command and sees that it doesn't work

Alright, we're going in circles here.
I say he doesn't show effort. You agreed with that.
Downvote stays until I see an attempt.

Geez guys it's a downvote not a spam flag...

Yes, you can't retract spam flags
(I think)

It's not worth the argument I don't think. I don't think anyone is going to change their mind, here.

@MBraedley I have attempted to answer that command block question. TL;DR: /testforblocks combined with execute to test whether a player has a block N blocks beneath them; OR select all players within R range of the topmost blocks in the area and teleport them
I do not know enough about command block syntax to write the commands for them, but algorithms are not that hard

@Nzall Yeah, that's the basic solution. My plan was to go a step further, use armor stands, and determine the altitude to the nearest meter. An over/under is probably all they need, but unfortunately, without testing every block in between, you might find an air pocket that gives a false reading.

@MBraedley Why are armor stands so common in Minecraft commands? like, every other answer involves one

Placeable entities that have no AI? Yes please

And can be invisible

And I assume they also don't stop players from standing on top of them?

They're essentially a mob that can't have AI, don't collide, and are otherwise easy to manipulate.

@MBraedley anything can be that =p

True

Q: Can't see the talent tree in the workshop hero build

LhooqI tried to create a build starting from here and everything looked great until I had to create the ability build : As you can see, I can't see the talent tree and, thus, can't save my build because it asks me to fill the 4 missing levels. Is it a bug or am I just blind?

It's FRIDAY.

I've decided that my bad days that involved travelling with children were bad because travelling sucks, not because I had kids.

Shouldn't've bothered with this person
