@badp Woo, Labour is in the lead!

@MBraedley is it?

@MBraedley Not really, no seats have changed yet.

I'm seeing Labour with 5 seats to the Tory's 1. Who cares about the other 646 seats?

So far there's only been results for the safest of seats :P

(Although the BBC does predict that the Conservatives will still take the largest share, but not an outright majority.)
Who are the Scots voting for if not the SNP? Strategic voting to prevent a Conservative majority?

11:12 PM
@uni are you calling your senators about trumpcare?

Yea yes I know I should because Portman can be swayed

@Memor-X they kinda had a referendum about it, backing out of it now would be... Undemocratic at the very least

Omg. The couple date beside me just took a turn. Her: You never told me you had a child! Him: He's little. Her: How little? Him: 12.

@TimStone I love this thread. Also, I've read one of her books. It was not all that awesome to me, but it tended to do that floaty airy slippery YA fantasy thing that I don't like.

Can someone clue me in on wtf is going on with the UK election? Why was there an election? I've been so out of the loop lately.

yes
2 hours ago, by badp
@Ash The main party is the one led by May (was Cameron). She called elections early hoping for an easy win

The converva'Tory campaign championed "banning" crypto, suspending human rights to fight terrorism and a hard brexit

she also was the minister that cut off 20,000 police in the last few years
2 hours ago, by badp
which people didn't forget in the wake of the last few weeks

user15026
@badp you're faster than me ;)

> The exit poll puts the Tories on 314 seats. If it is right, then Labour (266), the SNP (34) and the Lib Dems (14) would have exactly the same number of votes. A minority Tory government could probably rely on the votes of the 10-odd unionists from Northern Ireland. But a minority Labour-led government (or the “coalition of chaos”, as Theresa May used to call it), could rely on Plaid Cymru (3), the one Green MP and the SDLP (3 in the last parliament).

So basically, things are unknown and chaotic right now

@Fluttershy To actually answer the question about why there's an election, this is an early election called by May, who timed it such that it happens right before Brexit negotiations

she thought it was going to be an easy runaway win

11:54 PM
Her official line is that the purpose is to get a clear mandate for Brexit
Of course she's also doing it when polls have shown that the Tories have a significant lead over Labor

so the short version is that if the exit polls are right -- and so far that seems to be the case -- things are going to be !FUN!

@badp how cameron of her

Yes, because no the exit polls show that the Tories may not get enough seats to form a government on its own

proper Brexit talks start... this Monday?
@PrivatePansy the same is true of Labour
the third party wants nothing to do with the other two, perhaps hoping for a revote
