How much work is being a mod time wise for a site the size of gaming roughly?

That's a good question actually.

If you want to be a standard watch things and handle things mod, then you need only make sure to check in every now and then to address flags, as well as look for anything that hasn't yet been flagged but could use doing.

That's really all the minimum you need to do. You'll put in more time by doing things like organizing Meta discussions or policy changes or raids, and the like.

@CruelCow I see you have the right to edit; I think it's best to get an idea by experincing it. You could simply go and edit questions and answers to improve them, visting the /review tab (perhaps put the range wider) to find more that needs your attention. Be sure to check out meta on a regular basis too. Now imagine mods also handling the /tools section (which contains summaries) and flags by users (which require 1 or more actions on a question and/or it's answers). That quite sums it up...

As @GraceNote mentioned, mods don't necessarily do all these things together on a regular basis. That's one of the many reasons there are multiple mods...

The mod-specific work is mostly stuff you don't get to see as average user, for example there could be dozens of spam posts every day and I just miss them because they get deleted so fast.

Blasting in all guns ablazing and throwing out revisions left and right is one approach, but it's far better to just work on things over the cycle and rhythm of the site. The site isn't going to adhere to your schedule.
