5:00 PM
figured, The Bridge is never talking about games

<Insert I'm right regardless, you're wrong statement>
Which is apparently okay for everyone else to use except for me.

In GURPS, armor has nothing to do with the likelihood of an attack to hit, it just reduces damage.
To avoid attacks, you have active defenses: Dodge, Block, Parry

@OrigamiRobot Much better system. D&D was always strange - miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, 25 damage.

@Sterno what? :(
ALSO HIHIHIHIHIHIHI

@OrigamiRobot That makes a lot more sense

FAE
5:02 PM
@Wipqozn When's it my tuuuuuuuurn / Wouldn't I looooooooooove / Love to explore that shore up aboooooooooooooove~ Wait, that's not what the point here is, is it

I tried playing D&D after GURPS and just couldn't do it. Nothing makes sense!

@FAE Out of the sea / Wish I could be / Part of that... woooooooooooooorld~

I should try GURPs one day.
ONE DAY

Back in the day you wanted AC to be low. It was weird how it was done, since THAC0 was a thing.

5:03 PM
@Yuki THE DREAM LIVES ON

Nethack uses the same kind of AC as that system though, where lower is better.

@RedRiderX Finals got in the way for me.

FAE
@Yuki I knew you'd be the one to back me up here :D <3

But I'm trying to get a test run together.

@Yuki Would it be GURPs?

5:04 PM
@Wipqozn Nobody to GM a GURPS game.

@Wipqozn I think we need to test a few systems before we decide on one. But that might be time-consuming.
@FAE Oh god, I can't count how many times I've burst out in Disney song mode in everyday conversation just because someone said the right/wrong words.

I do that in my head.

I've been trying to keep that under a lid since it's starting to get embarrassing.

Or cartoon theme songs.

Especially as I get older.

5:06 PM
Right now, I am singing Tail Spin.
OH EEEEE OH

FAE
@Yuki That is amazing and awesome.

Oh! I finally managed to memorize He Mele No Lilo. Or at least all the single verses.

Oh, also Land Before Time songs.

FAE
@Yuki Oooh, congrats!

The verses where they do two separate chants at once is still escaping me.

5:07 PM
It takes all sorts, to make our day

@Yuki I really want to do this

Big big big big watttteeeeerrrrrr

FAE
@OrigamiRobot I haven't watched the first movie in ages.

@SaintWacko Currently taking a roll call of all willing participants for this weekend. I think we're testing R4S.

@Yuki Ooh!

5:09 PM
@Yuki I'm too lazy to switch chats, but I can't join this weekend, but I'm also not sure if I'd want to join at all.
I forgot you guys were planning to do this.
What's R4S?

@Wipqozn The room was actually frozen, so we kinda forgot too.

Ah... damn. I'm going to be out of town. Might still be able to participate, though, if it's something I can do on my tablet

@Wipqozn Apparently, it's short for Roll For Shoes.
@SaintWacko Well, we'll be trying it out in chat.
So you should be fine.

@Yuki Okay, I'll participate!

I would think mumble would be the ideal solution, but I'm just cra cra.

5:10 PM
What time of day do you think you'll be doing it?

@SaintWacko I don't know, I kinda missed some of the room updates since it was frozen then un-frozen. So I'm trying to get a handle on @Krazer to see if we can schedule it again.

@Yuki A handle on @krazer? Is he out of control? Foaming at the mouth?

@Yuki Alright. My girlfriend and I are going to be out of town, so we'll have to see if we can join

@spugsley It means you're good at baby punching.

@Sterno If there was a babypunching.SE @spugsley would have a million rep.

5:16 PM

A: Lost My Minecraft Saves Folder

bobBob Marley I nee d enter 30 characters so I am saying this to finish it, you see Bob Marley is only 10 letters but this is over 30. Thank You for reading this message , I'm internally grateful full stop (.)

...

I need to go to lunch :/
WHY AM I SO BAD AT KNOWING WHAT I WANT TO EAT?

@OrigamiRobot I'm having ramen for lunch.
I noticed I've been spending a bit much (upwards of $8) on lunch, so I got some ramen in bulk.

Guess I'll go get a sandwich :/

@OrigamiRobot What kind?

Turkey

5:20 PM
@OrigamiRobot I'm still turkeyed out from Christmas

@Wipqozn psssh only a million. Yeah right.

@MBraedley Never.

I'm not a huge turkey fan.

FAE
Hey @MBraedley, have you ever played KSP with a joystick? Jochem frequents the subreddit and sees a lot of people saying good things. I know you play a lot and I was wondering if you had any opinion/experience either way.

It's okay, but I'd rather have something else.

5:21 PM
@Wipqozn is the worst. What kind of meat do you like?

@FAE Hm, I'll have to try that

@OrigamiRobot I've always been more of a fish person to be honest.

@FAE I don't have a 3 axis joystick, only Xbox controllers. I'd want to get a 3 axis translation stick as well, which are nigh impossible to find

Instead of all those land meats, I'd rather have water meat.

FAE
@SaintWacko I was just suggesting to him the other day anyway that he should get a nice one for what few games he plays.

5:23 PM
What a monster.

I just find turkey is too dry.
Dark meat is fine, but white is dry as a dry./

@MBraedley translation stick? What does that mean?

@Wipqozn That all depends on who cooks it.

@Wipqozn That's why you put gravy on it, silly turtle.

@FAE I would highly recommend the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

5:24 PM
I've come to the conclusion that @Wipqozn just has never had good meat.

I've had one for years, and it's wonderful

@Wipqozn Tuna sandwich?

FAE
@MBraedley Ah okay. Thanks for the input. :) So you play KSP with an Xbox controller then?

Personally, I've never liked tuna sandwiches.

That reminds me. I need to pick up some turtle food.

FAE
5:25 PM
@SaintWacko Oh wow, that's a really reasonable price too. :o I thought we'd have to pay more for a nice one.

But now I wanna try salmon sandwiches...

I hate it when people say "tuna fish sandwich"
@Yuki I love salmon patties.

@JasonBerkan The meat by itself is still bad though.

@FAE Yeah, it's a great price, and it's 3 axis, with a POV hat, a throttle, and tons of buttons

You don't need to do anything to fish to make it delicious. Delicious is it's default state.
It's even delicious raw.

5:26 PM
@Wipqozn It's why sashimi is a thing.

@SaintWacko for Apollo, the shuttles, and the Canadarms, you use two joysticks: a rotational stick much like a typical aircraft joystick that also includes yaw (or roll, depending on the setup) as well as a translational stick for lateral movement, particularly during docking.

@Yuki I had sashimi the other day. Meh.

@MBraedley Ah, okay. Well, the POV hat could be used for that

@FAE no, I wasn't satisfied with the control scheme.
@SaintWacko but that's only two axis

@Wipqozn Although I've been meaning to try steak tartare someday.

FAE
5:27 PM
@Yuki That is very common over here.

@MBraedley Oh, true. Okay, POV hat for two of the axes, and two of the top buttons for the third

FAE
I'm yoinking Jochem in here for this conversation so I don't have to keep vocally relaying it to him. :P

Wow, salmon has its own one-box of links on Wikipedia.
{{navbox | name = salmon | title = Salmon | bodyclass = hlist | image = | state = {} | group1 = Groups andspecies | list1 = * Salmon * Salmonidae * Adriatic salmon * Atlantic salmon * Black Sea salmon * Pacific salmon ** Chum salmon ** Chinook salmon ** Coho salmon ** June hogs ** Masu salmon ** Pink salmon ** Steelhead ** Satsukimasu salmon ** Sockeye salmon ** Taiwanese salmon * Danube Salmon * Sabertooth salmon * Genetically modified salmon | group2 = Fisheries andmanagement | list2 = * Aquaculture of salmon * Fly fishing bibliography * Environmental issues with salmon * Old McKenzie ...

@FAE hi \o

@Jochem <3

5:30 PM
@Jochem :D

Oh, hey, it's a wild @Jochem!

@Jochem !!!

@Jochem Welcome to the ping Bridge!

@SaintWacko Yeah, that could work, but since I've actually seen and used a pair of 6-axis controllers (former co-op student at Canadian Space Agency), I know how useful they are for the purpose they're designed for, namely docking.

ALL THE PINGS FOR @JOCHEM!

5:31 PM
@MBraedley So the translational joystick is just effectively a second three axis flight stick, right? Or is it a more complicated thing?
@OrigamiRobot @Coronus @FEichinger @Yuki @Arperum hi :)

@Jochem The thing is you can't use a 3-axis rotational stick, since instead of yaw left/right, you have thrust forward/backward (is the typical setup).

@MBraedley So probably one of those 3d mice would be a better bet for the translational controls, hm

You actually push and pull the stick in and out along the axis of the rod.

@Jochem maybe? I've never played with one, so I don't know the sensitivity of it or anything.

5:33 PM
@badp It's like you want me to post RB links.
Oh, this is debunked
Okay, you're safe.

FAE
@Sterno It's a pretty good video

@FAE I just saw the non-word "lifehack" and reacted.

FAE
@Sterno hahaha. Your edit's even better.

@Sterno actually last time they only debunked half of them

I do remember that Doritos are good at burning.

5:35 PM
@Jochem Having taken piano lessons for a good part of my life, I know I can manage the coordination required for rotation in the right hand and translation in the left
It's also how I already do all my dockings with the keyboard (albeit with hands reversed).

@MBraedley Hehehe, I was terrible at playing two handed >_>

I core heads of lettuce on the cutting board all the time
But mine never look like that.
STILL NOT A LIFE HACK

I've mostly been doing my dockings without translation, lately... Partially because I always forget to put RCS on something that's supposed to dock

@Jochem RCS balancer mod to your rescue

FAE
@Sterno Do people do this other ways? That's how I learned to do it from my mom so I've never done it any other way.

5:37 PM
@badp That applesauce foil spoon does not feel sanitary.

@FAE He must, since he failed so completely at it.

@Jochem @MBraedley I haven't been keeping up, what's the subject?

FAE
@Sterno Ah, I didn't actually look at it, I just overheard it while @Jochem was watching.

@MBraedley I've used that before, but didn't reinstall it for .23 cause i wasn't docking yet. Though I do have the docking alignment indicator mod installed, that one's pretty nice too

@FEichinger Joysticks for KSP
I need to get back into KSP
I've been on a hiatus

5:39 PM
Also, why would someone have an eyelash curler but not a bottle opener?

@SaintWacko Ah, cause I saw the mention of 3d mice etc.
With that said ...

FAE
@Yuki THIS IS WHAT WE SAID TOO

@Jochem Pretty sure the implemented support for 3d mice is view only.

Why is opening a bottle of beer with an eyelash curler considered a lifehack? WHO THE HELL IS TRYING TO OPEN A BOTTLE OF BEER WHO DOES NOT HAVE A BOTTLE OPENER HANDY BUT DOES HAVE AN EYELASH CURLER HANDY? GAHHEHELKJERLKJERLKJE)(*#$)(*#$!!!!!

FAE
Or like... a pocketknife or... y'know... a table.

5:39 PM
I hate lifehacks so much.

@FEichinger ah, that sucks :/

@FAE Yeah, what kind of monster does that?

@Yuki You beat me, but only because typing out my rage takes time

@Jochem I can ask around when I'm home, but I'm pretty sure that's the last bit of info we got.
And no one on the moderation team has a 3d mouse, so we haven't really tested that.

@FEichinger Boo-urns

FAE
5:40 PM
@Sterno Or a countertop or even another beer bottle.

@Jochem @FAE @FEichinger @MBraedley You could probably do some cool control stuff with this
I can't wait til I get mine

@MBraedley That was the reaction the forums had as well ... well, the usual whiners, at least.

@SaintWacko I'd prefer physical controls. The only thing is, it seems that NASA and CSA get their translation sticks custom made, because I haven't been able to find them anywhere.

WHO ON EARTH HAS CUT-OPEN TENNIS BALLS ON HAND???!!

@Yuki You know ... you can cut them yourself, right?

5:44 PM
WHY DON'T YOU JUST USE THERMAL EXPANSION TO OPEN THAT GORRAM JAR??

@MBraedley I couldn't find any in some quick google searches either, though I suppose very few games actually benefit from translational control

@Yuki You can, if you just go out and buy some

@badp Too many of these pass. You're back on the list.

@Yuki It's not a lifehack, but still a neat DIY.

5:45 PM
@FEichinger It's much easier to just run the jar under hot water for a minute or so than cut open a tennis ball and use that.

@Sterno was I ever not on it?

@Jochem On PC, no. You have mouse and keyboard for that.

@badp Briefly.

@Yuki Or to just keep one of those little rubber jar-opener pads on hand

@Yuki Of course, but that's where "vanity jar opener" becomes a thing.

FAE
5:45 PM
@SaintWacko Yeah that's what we have.

@FAE they're technically potholders, aren't they?

@Yuki but what if you have a plastic jar with a plastic lid?

@Jochem No

FAE
@Jochem They were labeled as both.

Very different
These would not work as potholders. Not the ones we have, anyways

5:46 PM
Point is, if it works and it's funny, why not. Just don't call it "lifehack".

@MBraedley Then you need to stop buying sub-par products.

FAE
@SaintWacko My mom gave them to us from Avon, the ones we have are really thick.

@FAE Oh, okay. I was just talking about the thin little rubber discs
Thicker ones would work for that, though

FAE
@SaintWacko Yeah, I know which ones you mean, I've used those before too. These are a few millimeters thick and also have thicker bumps on them to aid in their potholder roles.

@MBraedley @SaintWacko thanks for the advice, I'll probably start out with just one joystick for now :) Maybe if I go crazy, I'll build a translational device myself or something. Can't be that hard I suppose

5:51 PM
@Jochem I want to build a whole arcade control panel, but the translation stick is the limiting factor for me.

Several of those were just "I don't know how this is a lifehack but"

@MBraedley the X and Y shouldn't be a huge deal, mechanically... the Z is the hard one I think

@Jochem Stick a joystick on top of a mouse that is stuck in a trench. Not sure how you'd do the wiring...

@Jochem Indeed, but the thing is they've existed since the '60s, and the one in the Apollo command pod even rotated for the abort.

@JasonBerkan that leaves the up-and-down though
@MBraedley the wonders of custom made machined parts that can cost thousands and thousands of dollars a unit :)

5:56 PM
@Jochem let's kick start this!

FAE
@MBraedley Do not give him ideas. :P

@MBraedley hehehe :D I'd back it, and so would half of r/KSP I think ;)

@FAE shh, we need to encourage him!

oh, @MBraedley, @FAE mentioned you make KSP youtube videos?

@Jochem yep, check my Arqade profile

5:59 PM
@Jochem What are we doing here?

eating cake
