3:00 PM
@SaintWacko You wake up, I go home from work
See you guys/girls tomorrow

@5pike seconded. goodnight

@SaintWacko Morning.

@Wipqozn That's awesome

CC @kalina

3:17 PM
@Sterno Whenever we discuss site policy, we set a new record, as both sides will do so.

@BenBrocka "MSFT -6%"
(sure, unrelated reasons, but...)

@badp Yeah the Nokia deal is surely a bigger culprit. Heck, if they went forward with Illumiroom it might hurt their stock. It always seemed pretty far-fetched

@BenBrocka It's healthy for companies to have crazy projects

So... to no one's surprise, Microsoft is buying Nokia.

Yeah, but not to try and ship them, unless you're Google

or at least its devices division

Lord ApricotI am playing the second game in the Enchanter trilogy but I cant make it out of the guildhall because I cant open the drunk in the basement. I have the code from the journal but I cant find out what buttons I need to press because I don't have the infotater that comes with the game for obvious re...

Q: How can I enable Civ 5 Mods button on Mac OS X Mountain Lion?

NavI looked at this link first: How can I enable Civ 5 mods on Mac OS X? But I got stuck where it says Front End/Mainmenu.lua. Mine is a .xml file (not sure if that matters). Anyway, I opened it up using Text Editor on Mac, but couldn't find the "Controls.ModsButton:SetHide( true );" to change it. ...

I miss the drama. It's too quiet in here.

@Sterno Meh. I've had enough drama for the day.

@fbueckert How about some game discussion then!

@Sterno I'm making rovers in KSP to tow stuff!

3:33 PM
@Sterno OFF-TOPIC

Sadly, none of my rovers have enough power/traction to actually tow my giant things, so I will have to add rockets to provide enough thrust.
@Lazers This is a dupe, but we need to ask for some clarification about what he's having trouble with.

Is there any sort of client for this chat, or is it browser only?

@ToxicFrog Browser only, I'm afraid.

@ToxicFrog You can call me on the phone and I'll relay the messages.
It's a new service I am offering
OrigamiRobot's Voice to Text Bridge Chat

We need a chat client where the star list just keeps getting bigger and bigger

3:37 PM
darklegacycomics.com/405.html - Poor Narya didn't have much luck with KSP :(

@ToxicFrog Deja Vu. I had this exact same discussion before.

Hmm.
I wonder how hard it would be to write one.
Is there anything in the TOS about programmatically interacting with the chat endpoints?

@ToxicFrog You know, a client would actually be pretty neat.
Time for me to make another dumb feature request on meta.

@ToxicFrog It's largely impossible, actually.
To my knowledge, there's not even a readonly API for chat.

@FEichinger Why? Just replicate the same requests the JS chat client makes, and then translate.

FAE
3:40 PM
@ToxicFrog There was an IRC bridge that was abandoned, largely because it was read-only.

@ToxicFrog There's auth involved that makes that complicated.

@FAE I still use IRC. We had an IRC room?

It would likely be ugly as sin, but I don't think it would be impossible

Of course you /could/ reverse-engineer it, but it's not worth the effort. I also said largely impossible.

IRC is like two drug-dealing boats in the ocean...

FAE
3:41 PM
@GnomeSlice No, I mean someone on MSO had tried to do a project for SE chat to bridge to IRC, but it was abandoned. I use IRC as well and I hate using chat in a browser, but yeah, nothing to be done.

@FAE Feature request?

@Sterno Accurate.

FAE
@GnomeSlice Not even going to bother when part of the FAQ is "We don't want to be IRC".

A read-write IRC bridge would be ideal. I wonder if it could be implemented as a bitlbee module? Then you don't need to worry about the bridge juggling auth for all the IRC-connected users.

user15026
@ToxicFrog one of the things I like about you is that you have yet to find anything you think impossible.

3:42 PM
It's not even HTTPS! I can use wireshark!

I can tell you right now, I wouldn't be here if it was using IRC.

user15026
But I mean I have no idea what the guts of chat look like and how touchable they are

I despise IRC and I avoid it at all costs.

@FEichinger What's wrong with plain chat?

FAE
@ToxicFrog Yeah, I SSH through one of my b/f's Debian servers for irssi and bitlbee for my main chatting purposes.

3:43 PM
Which may actually be easier than reading the source, since master-chat.js looks like it's been aggressively minified.
@FEichinger you mean you wouldn't be here if it were IRC chat instead of webchat, or you wouldn't be here if there were IRC access at all?
@FAE Yeah, basically all of my chat is through IRC except this and some work-related stuff.

@ToxicFrog Given that I also hate IRC/webchat crossover solutions, the latter.

@FAE Ouch.

@FEichinger so...if I wrote a bitlbee module for Bridge access, you would leave?
Wtf.

user15026
@FEichinger Even if you didn't have to touch it?

Didn't there used to be an IRC chat dealy?

user15026
3:46 PM
@fbueckert It was abandoned before it really got anywhere

FAE
@GnomeSlice Here in the FAQ, you can see the part near the bottom "Why don't you guys just use IRC, man?".

@ToxicFrog That's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about an inherent IRC/webchat crossover.

user15026
@FAE I didn't even know chat had a FAQ.

I seem to remember some kind of IRC thing happening.

FAE
@ToxicFrog ^ There's some GitHub code linked there about the IRC thing.

3:47 PM
@AshleyNunn If it was officially integrated, I would. I have a lot of qualms with IRC, and if I can at all avoid having anything to do with it, I will.

FAE
@AshleyNunn Link is in the bottom right of chat.

user15026
@FAE Oh hey there it is!

user15026
@FEichinger Alright then

FAE
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, there was in the very very early stages, now that I think about it. Very few people used it though.

@FAE I was just trying to get someone to say it was abandoned again :P

FAE
3:48 PM
@ToxicFrog It's just handy for me to be able to attach/detach whenever I want to and such.

Although SE chat is a lot nicer than IRC.

user15026
I like the editability and stuff, but I also like everything in one place, so....I have no idea if I would use an IRC option

FAE
@AshleyNunn Liking everything in one place is part of why I wanted there to be an IRC option, haha.

@FAE I use ZNC for that, I find xchat a much nicer client than irssi so I need another layer to get the detachability.

FAE
I still have the logs from the old room somewhere.

3:50 PM
Oh hey there's a bitlbee module for Steam chat now.

user15026
@FAE Yeah, I would have to debate in my head which I wanted more

That's convenient.

FAE
@ToxicFrog Huh, really?

@FEichinger Does this mean I can chase you out of the bridge with this whenever I want?

@FAE I don't think it's in master yet, but there's a github for it
Uses the Steam mobile API, so it doesn't log you out of steam on your PC

FAE
3:51 PM
@ToxicFrog Hm, intriguing.

And yeah, if I could access this via IRC I'd stop using the web interface immediately. I'll take a look at the soirc project.

@GnomeSlice As I said, as long as the stuff I use has nothing to do with it, I'm fine. I like my communication persistent and serial, thank you very much.

@FEichinger =P
I don't know what that means, but okay.

If there's no way around it, I'll bite the bullet. But when I can avoid it, I will.

user15026
My only problem with IRC would be not being able to look back at stuff because I dont have a machine setup that persists

user15026
3:52 PM
obligatory grumble about her home internet and the suckiness thereof

FAE
@AshleyNunn You can still keep local logs with most IRC clients.

Being a KSP forum mod doesn't go without IRC, for instance. I still complain about it at every opportunity, but I deal with it no less.

user15026
@FAE Which I do, but if I can't hold the client open while I am not there, then I can't look back at stuff

I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN OMG

@Fluttershy What did you do!?

user15026
3:53 PM
@Fluttershy Oh no why :(

FAE
@Fluttershy Have you not brought Aleve to the elevator yet?

I've been probing trucks by hand all morning. x_x It is a miserable experience.

@Fluttershy Too many pickles?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Seriously dont even joke that was like hell on earth

@AshleyNunn I could run a ZNC instance for you on Orias, if you like :P

3:54 PM
@FAE Yus! But I already took some today.

user15026
@ToxicFrog <3

@AshleyNunn You pickled yourself!

@Fluttershy Probing?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot I did :(

@StrixVaria you know where this is going

3:54 PM
Quassel lets you connect to an always-online core so you can see all the chat logs, but that shit sounds complicated and I think you need a server

FAE
@ToxicFrog I've never used ZNC, so I dunno how all that works.

user15026
@GnomeSlice Or I can just look at @ToxicFrog nicely and he can make a nice thing happen for me :)

@AshleyNunn =P

@FAE Basically, you run it as a server, and connect to it with your IRC client. It connects to the IRC server on your behalf.

user15026
(Considering I was in tears trying to figure out a network adapter the other night...)

3:55 PM
@StrixVaria Basically, I have to take an 8' pole, jam it as deep into the corn in the back of a truck as I possibly can, remove the probe, dump the grain in a bucket, and repeat 7 times. While standing precariously on a tractor trailer 10' tall.

FAE
@ToxicFrog Ah gotcha.

user15026
@Fluttershy Yikes

@FAE When you disconnect from it with the client, it stays connected to the server on your behalf, and keeps logs. When you reconnect, it replays the logs for you.
There's other stuff you can do with it, but that's the main use for it 90% of the time.

> Quassel IRC is a modern, cross-platform, distributed IRC client, meaning that one (or multiple) client(s) can attach to and detach from a central core -- much like the popular combination of screen and a text-based IRC client such as WeeChat, but graphical.

FAE
Replays?

3:56 PM
(and 90% of the rest is connecting with multiple clients without needing to have multiple names on the server)

user15026
@Fluttershy why do you need to do that?

buh... confusing

FAE
@AshleyNunn Their probe is broken.

@FAE as in, it plays all the logs for stuff you missed into your client

user15026
@FAE Ah, but why do you need to probe?
4

FAE
3:57 PM
@ToxicFrog That could be a really long buffer. x_X

@FAE you can set limits on it.

FAE
@AshleyNunn So they can take samples to test the grain.

@Fluttershy You had me at "jam it"

@AshleyNunn What @FAE said. We have a hydraulic probe, but it's been broken all morning. =(

I think I have mine set to 1024 lines/channel.

user15026
3:57 PM
@Fluttershy Booooo :(

user15026
gives @Fluttershy hugs and lovely painkillers

FAE
@ToxicFrog Yeah that's the buffer I usually keep on my irssi channels I think.

On the plus side, I look like a movie star now.

@Fluttershy No it hasn't, it's been standing on top of the truck jamming a pole into corn all morning.

My body is glistening.
8

user15026
3:58 PM
@Fluttershy oh baby

@Fluttershy oooooooooooooooo

(the advantage of ZNC over Quassel is that it works with any client, so you can, say, have a ZNC instance with a mix of xchat, mIRC, and irssi clients connected to it. The disadvantage is that Quassel is, from what I've heard, easier to set up)

And I'm super pale, so I could pass for a Twilight star or something.

@FAE yeah, my reasoning is that above that, I probably want to grep the main logs instead of scrolling back anyways.

That flag was amazing, +1

user15026
3:58 PM
@Fluttershy but do you sparkle?

user15026
@GnomeSlice sigh

@AshleyNunn What
:P

user15026
@GnomeSlice you know what

@ToxicFrog Oh that sounds sweet

FAE
@ToxicFrog Yeah, but you can't grep for what you don't know you missed.

3:59 PM
@AshleyNunn You are jealous of my taste in ladies? Yes of course. :)
@AshleyNunn I kid. :P

user15026
@GnomeSlice facepalm

FAE
@GnomeSlice That... would be a really nonsensical thing to be jealous of.

Does anyone remember what chat that was in?

@FAE Yeah, but realistically - if it's 6000 lines back in the backscroll, I won't know anyways unless someone tells me
