There are a large number of users who feel that lore questions should be banned. From what I've been able to find, they were just sort of allowed on Arqade in the first place, as I can't find any meta discussion specifically discussing whether or not they should be allowed (but, rather if they ar...
Adjective Of or concerned with the actual doing or use of something. (of an idea, plan, or method) Likely to succeed or be effective in real circumstances; feasible.
I'd really hope you argue why lore questions should be banned (or not) because they suck (or don't), rather than playing word games with the FAQ though.
Sure, and then next time, it will "make the site better"
and the time after, it will "make the site better"
and then one day you'll realise the site is crap because everything is off topic, we've lost all our users and we have 8 questions that haven't been closed
I question this "large number of users" you're quoting, I think this needs to read "1% of our total active users, the ones who reside in the bridge" — kalina11 secs ago
This site has 50000 users, sure maybe only half of them are active, but calling the 15-20 people in here who want lore questions banning "a large number of users" is misleading
We shouldn't allow what has always been prevent us from making the best decision going forward (whether that's to ban or not to ban; still to be decided).
There are some very vocal users who feel that lore questions should be banned. @JasonBerkan There is a very vocal group of people who all want them gone, the amount of noise makes it look like they've made up their mind but the fact is, these vocal people make up less than 1% of our users and need to learn that it isn't their sole responsibility to decide what is valid on this site
@StrixVaria People who care about the site shouldn't systematically move from one group of questions to the next group of questions leaving a trail of banned questions in their wake
I would consider all of the users who are unaware of/take no interest in meta, but ask and answer lots of lore questions as against this proposal by default. — Michael Dunfield1 min ago
@kalina "You banned too many questions! Let this one through because we won't have enough questions without it." is a stupid argument. Let this class of questiosn stand on its own or die.
With things like hitzones and elemental weaknesses and affinity, it's hard to really know how much damage you're actually doing. How is the damage a monster takes calculated?
Once you research the necessary Science and train your soldiers with the correct military skills, they gain the ability to perform a variety of different stances, both while moving and while stationary. The new abilities are as follows:

I checked out all tooltips in the game and their official website. Since FTL did not come with a manual I have no clue here. I know that they have something to do with recharge rates and percentages but I can't find anything specific about it.
I've scrolled through the entirely of Yoshimitsu's moves list, but I guess I've missed something because I absolutely cannot figure out how to turn him around so that he's facing away from his opponent. The only consistent method I've found of doing this is to do the deathcopter move and fly ove...
Every so often as I collect more and more Electoons, I get a notification that I've unlocked a new character at the Snoring Tree. Once I visited there, I found that there are in fact, a variety of characters to choose from, including Rayman, Globox, and some Teensies. It looks like I can also u...
When you begin a level, you have the option to select one of four characters. What are the differences between these four characters? They don't appear to be purely cosmetic, as the third one (short girl with dusters) has a triple jump, which none of the others have.
In general, ItsColby nailed the basics of how it works. Damage reduction is multiplied rather than added. So 70% Armor and 30% Physical Resist doesn't mean you're a god who blocks all damage... you're actually blocking 79% of the damage. But read on for a closer look.
Armor is good against all...
Some of the maps have tiles with a big sign on them that reads 'cash for relics' and a passive many-eyed beast floating around that must be a shopkeeper or something.
I've stood in the tiles but haven't gotten anything from him. How do you get relics for cash? Do you have to be carrying a full...
When creating your character in Crayon Chronicles, there's an option for choosing your 'heart'. There's a bunch of different options to choose from.
The choices are as follows:
Champion
Dragon
Glaiator
Falcon
Fox
Hedgehog
Lion
Eagle
Ogre
Unicorn
I can't work out what the 'Heart' does though...
I've noticed that if I grab two or more alcoholic beverages in rapid succession, my sight gets wonky and blurry. The length of time this effect lasts for seems to increase if I grab a larger number of bottles. Is it possible to pass out, if enough alcoholic beverages are consumed in rapid succe...
@Sterno People are downvoting to show that they disagree with the proposal of banning lore questions. Which is silly becauese you didn't present either side explicitly in your post. — Michael Dunfield20 mins ago

@MichaelDunfield I consider that a valid downvote reason. They think it's not even worthy of discussing banning them. I worry a little the negative votes can push it so that it's hidden, leading to not as many eyes seeing it to vote, but if it's really that popularly opposed that even the question is downvoted, it's probably a pretty minor concern.
I knew from the start I was fighting a losing battle. I accepted this a long time ago and was content to just sit and grumble to myself. But people kept bringing it up, so I threw my two cents in.
@OrigamiRobot It's good to have it out. Because the highest voted answer on my other meta was to ban all lore questions, which, if not the actual community consensus, means basically I can't resolve that other meta
@Sterno It would be much less of a problem if people could learn to use their brains and say "No, this question is dumb." rather than "This is OK because the vague FAQ says so."
For the record, all drama between @kalina and @OrigamiRobot aside, I meant it when I said I enjoyed lore and ITG questions. I just feel like there are better places for them than here.
Lore question? Go to the wiki(a). ITG question? Go to reddit! Have an actual problem with something in your game? Something you can't find? Boss you can't kill? Incomplete? Ask it here.
but if google were as good as picking out the relevant part of a GameFAQ as it were at picking out an answer from arqade, this site would be fairly pointless
@JasonBerkan Huh, I mistook you for someone else then. That's how it usually goes for me, too, though usually Google brings me to GameFAQs to begin with.
Why do games, especially high-profile games like Battlefield 3, installed in default locations, still need an administrator account access to be launched? Windows already provides ProgramData, %LOCALAPPDATA% and %APPDATA% folders for read/write access, and Windows Vista came out 6 years ago, so ...
"We control our own FAQ, not the other way around" means that we have, for years, controlled that piece of the FAQ to read as it does
So if you're going to make the point that it should've never been on topic to begin with...
> From what I've been able to find, they were just sort of allowed on Arqade in the first place, as I can't find any meta discussion specifically discussing whether or not they should be allowed.

Then yes, it's a point that matters.
I appreciate the part that we should be arguing lore questions by their nature, rather than by their legacy, but the argument by legacy is what the question brings forward.
There are some very vocal users who feel that lore questions should be banned. From what I've been able to find, they were just sort of allowed on Arqade in the first place, as I can't find any meta discussion specifically discussing whether or not they should be allowed.

Looking for a place to buy Pokemon X and Y (place that ships to Israel), in Israel it costs about 100$, best I found was around $60-$55, anyone knows of a place that may offer a better deal?
@badp It's not so much "knowing what you're talking about" as it is that voting based on whether or not I know/think there is/isn't an answer is a bad idea. (That said, I don't think that questions that don't get an answer/are likely unanswerable for a while are necessarily bad. We don't need a perfect answered rate by any stretch.)
You know what I find very funny about that lore meta? We have this argument that the "active Bridge folk" hate lore questions, but that the "broader community" doesn't. Right now, we can safely assume the meta wasn't exposed to the meta-inactive people. And yet, there's a 2830 score difference between "No, keep them." and "Yes, ban them."
@badp That didn't really clear it up for me. I know I mentioned "sneaky" in the other meta, but that was in reference in trying to turn a narrowly-scoped meta into a referendum about whether or not all lore questions should be banned. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't about that comment.
@Sterno It seemed to me that your point was "we never actually said that questions about lore were ever on topic, maybe they just slipped through the cracks while we were too busy arguing about game-rec?"
@badp It wasn't my point, but I guess I can see that. Really I was just trying to point out that this wasn't a good fit as an exact dupe of "Can I ask lore questions here?" The answer to that is obviously yes. This question was about whether or not that should be the policy.
