It's not a make-or-break, but it's a pro (most of the time).

Regarding scoring: Why don't you use the number of languages as the primary criterion, and in case of a tie, use the length as a criterion.

I think this method would be a greater incentive to strive for more languages.

@Maltysen That is just a matter of convention, you can put any factor you want there, it just results in a stretches/squishes the whole thing. If you got the 2pi there you do not need it in the "normalization" factor, and vice versa. (You're just stretching/squishing the whole thing.)
