Just FYI, don't vote to delete. Flag as rude or abusive instead.

Damn it

Anonymous
@BetaDecay Unlike other SE sites, we actively encourage new users to post lots of answers on one specific question, and then delete them somewhat soon after being posted. On most SE sites, that would be cause for alarm and a perfectly valid reason to protect the question.

How do you unvote to delete?

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem I voted to delete and flagged as VLQ. Really, any action that leads to that nonsense getting removed is a good action.

I don't think you can. It's definitely not a huge deal though

Anonymous
8:01 AM
@BetaDecay Click the delete button again.

Wait what?
What's going on

@Mego I understand why it's happening, it's just amusing that it is happening :)

@Mego Sure, but if it's autodeleted as rude or abusive, it'll prevent this account from posting more garbage

Guys, take a look at my question...

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem If multiple garbage posts are flagged/deleted from the same account, the system will automatically question/answer-ban it.

8:02 AM
True

I guess so. Should I cast the final vote?

I flagged it as VERY low quality

nvmd, too late.

When flagging, if your flags are helpful, does the number of flags that you have left still decrease?

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem Also rude/abusive isn't the correct flag to use. There's no rudeness or abusing of other users going on (unless you consider posting garbage to be rude). One of VLQ or NAA is the correct choice (for stuff like that, it doesn't really matter which).

Q: Interpret Repetition!

Qwerp-DerpThis challenge is the first in a two-challenge showcase, about Repetition. The second will be up soon. undo Note that this represents my opinion on the matter. It isn't an official stance, and shouldn't be taken as such. Additionally, this doesn't completely apply to cases of already-established users posting gibberish. It's probably better to flag those as NAA and give them the benefit of the ...

A: Is a post like 'assdddsssafffwq' spam?

Ed Cottrelltl;dr You can flag this however you want, but your mileage (likelihood of it being treated as helpful) may vary. You may want to stick to NAA or VLQ. It's not really strictly speaking spam because it's not promoting anything. For purposes of Stack Overflow's spam flags, spam is defined as follow...

> The important thing to remember here is that when the post clearly means nothing, you shouldn't be wasting too much thought trying to decipher it; flag it and move on with your life.

I follow Shog's wisdom - for obviously bad posts, I pick whichever flag option I immediately think applies best, without too much effort wasted on trying to decide which flag option is perfect.

Anonymous
8:08 AM
While R/A and spam flags get rid of the post faster, if flags are doing their job, the deletion speed will be just as quick with another type of flag.

I dunno, Shog's avatar has always slightly disturbed me, so I've never really followed his word completely ;)

I don't agree with everything Shog says, but his advice/wisdom is always worth at least considering, even if you don't end up agreeing with what he says.

Man, I don't know what's going on, but I've reviewed 5 first posts in the last hour, and three of them ended up deleted.

Anonymous
Around this time every night, the amount of good posts drops dramatically (due to a lot of people being asleep). Spammers and bots (and worse; spambots) don't sleep, so the constant underbelly of pure noise is more noticeable with less signal.

^ That would be a good opener for a science fiction film

The Spam Hour?

@BetaDecay It took me way too long to realize his avatar was a decapitated head (probably his), and not the snail that it appears to be at a glance at thumbnail size.

> The clock struck 8. The spambots usually leave by now, but tonight something was different... The spambots hadn't left

Psh, the spambots never leave

Good users being asleep means less good content + less people to deal with the bad content

Q: Generate a Universal-binary-function Lookup Table

luser droogThis is tangentially related to my quest to invent an esoteric programming language. it's simple to convert any bf program in it :P

it's as simple as converting bf to forth, but it's possible

Golden rule of Esolangs #1: To prove that your language is TC, port it to BF. There is no other way.

Ah
I probs should compile more Golden Rules of Esolangs (GRE's)
and make a dictionary out of them
Golden rule of Esolangs #2: Make your language either very esoteric or very golfy. Either way, it's still going to be complicated, and no one will know how to code it but you.

@Qwerp-Derp I proved Retina's TC-ness by implementing a 2-tag system and Rule 110.

ie 1.2 => 1.0

(And Stack Cats with Smallfuck because Brainfuck was too hard...)

@MartinEnder GASP You have betrayed a Golden rule of Esolangs!

@Qwerp-Derp Quickly! Find the "Implement Brainfuck" question!

You must... port Retina to BF!

huh no
BF => Retina is better and prove TC as well
a regex engine in bf...

Obey the GRE's.

Great Regular Expressions

The rules must be upheld.

11:08 AM
@TùxCräftîñg @Qwerp-Derp I think you've both got it the wrong way round. Either you implement BF in Retina or you translate BF into Retina.
In neither case would you need to worry about representing regex in BF (only the other way round).

no, it was supposed to be a punishment :p
> There must only be one punishment.

> You must... port Retina to BF!

@zyabin101 Tbh I never really figured it out my IDE sometimes allows me to automagically add a lamda stream to a foreach loop. Perhaps the legendary geobits could help in this matter... @Geobits is it possible to create hello world more golfed than zyabin did

QUESTION: what are best ways of interpreting BF's [] commands ?

probably parsing, but I can't do that lol
#in absence of parsing, you can do this:
if tape[cell]==0: skipping==1
    while skipping:
        command+=1
        if program[command]=="["
            skipping+=1
        elif program[command]=="]"
            skipping-=1

i use a recursive function. it excutes others normally . recursively excutes anything between [] with calling itself until *ptr=0
i hate mac's automatic spelling corrections DX
