Aww what
No one's on

I'm here!
still implementing that ascii art lang

Hello

alternate hello world: 12#Hello, World!#:[*-.l]-.
explanation with fancy formatting incoming!

Oh my

12 -make the int variable 12

  #Hello, World!# -make the string variable "Hello, World!# (index initially 0)

                 : -Move right by the amount in the variable

                  [* -while the char under pointer is not *

                    -. subtract one from index. Write char at that index in string var

                      l    move left one

                       ]   end while

                        -. subtract one from index. Write char at that index in string var
yeah, shortest one is: "Hello, World! though
I also need to implement backslash escapes still
(currently impossible to use # in string var)
ok, I really need to restructure this loop...

They'll never read this but big thanks to the car wash attendant who helped me try to jump start my car for like half an hour. Your good deed has been immortalized in TNB.

Hey, that's me!
(no just kidding)

I made a program that figures out an input's length in Logicode!
circ trim(n) -> [
    cond n< -> var temp2 = 0 + n / var temp2 = trim(n>)
    temp2
]
circ successor(n) -> [
    cond n -> var temp = ~((~(trim(n)))>) / var temp = 0
    cond (~n)< -> var other = successor(temp) + 0 / var other = temp + 1
    other
]
circ length(n) -> [
    cond n -> var length_digit = successor(length_digit) / var string = n
    cond n -> var string = length(~((~n)>)) / var string = n
    length_digit>
]
var string = trim(input)
var length_digit = 0
out length(string)

@quartata They weren't a pichu as far as I could tell (though that might have helped my dead battery)

12:31 AM
also I realised that my interpreter is bugged with brackets in strings. must fix

Is there a challenge where this program answers it?

Find length of the input?
That's probably one byte in like a dozen different languages

True
circ r(n)->[
    cond n<->var t=0+n/var t=r(n>)
    t
]
circ s(n)->[
    cond n->var e=~((~(r(n)))>)/var e=0
    cond (~n)<->var o=s(e)+0/var o=e+1
    o
]
circ g(n)->[
    cond n->var l=s(l)/var i=n
    cond n->var i=g(~((~n)>))/var i=n
    l>
]
var i=r(input)
var l=0
out g(i)
This is the golfed version
Could probably be golfed further

Quick: I need a "DEVELOPMENT POWERS ACTIVATE!" picture

O___O apparently what npm does is it does an scrape of it's website for it's data and stores entire npm repo locally so it doens't need to re-lookup everything :|

Haha, sorry that was kinda mean.
The problem with having the main script in python (or theoretically in ches) is it causes some weird race conditions.
I think having it entirely in vimscript (including the main loop) should fix that

@DJMcMayhem A programming language entirely in vimscript?

I don't know if it'll work though. I'm still looking into it/thinking about it

so like a vim function thing like: :ExecuteVProgram(foo.v)?

12:59 AM
Yeah pretty much. And then calling it like vim inputFile.txt -c "Main(foo.v"

btw cheddar v1.0.0-beta.50 has been released!
half a hundred beta-releases >_>
well a little more

Yay
What's new

mostly REPL improvements
better raw mode handling. better coloring. suppotrs auto-version updating thing
ah yes. Referenced evaluated accessores!
e.g. ar[0] = 4 now works
it didn't work before because arrays them selves don't have a scope which can be referenced in assignment
instead I create a fake scope which I reference each data point to it's index in the internal array
works well
but slow AF
planning on adding an image processing library
though I don't want to have any pixel iterations
can't find a lib to do so >_>

what is parser?
I need to make a parser

> noun: parser
a program for parsing.

1:13 AM
halp how to make parser I've never had to do this before
clap ...clap ...clap

@DestructibleWatermelon start here

ok, here is what I need to do.
There is a loop thing/conditional thing with brackets ([, ])
Immediately after a the first bracket, there is a symbol, then after that, some code (x is symbol, y is code): [XY]
What I need to parse is that sometimes that symbol is [ or ]

@DestructibleWatermelon ok well first things first I reccomend taking a quick learn of formal grammar theory. Then read up on some simple parser engine e.g. recursive decent and you should be good to go

Q: Misconstrued Monomials

Zach GatesThere exists an equation, assuming n and x are positive, that expresses the relationship between two monomials, one being a common misrepresentation of the other. Many people make the simple mistake of equating these (i.e. 3x^2 and (3x)^2). Challenge Given a positive integer, i, determine an...

1:32 AM
@Downgoat ???

@DestructibleWatermelon Here's some sample code I wrote a while back to match nested brackets. Maybe you'll find some use for it gist.github.com/zachgates7/14f9482768c3ed3c6793

@ASCII-only Should we just ditch explicit returns for now?

@Qwerp-Derp IDK
maybe

Doesn't really matter, TBH
I don't get how it doesn't work
Without the ret everything works as expected
I think maybe we should have something like this instead
ret cond n->1/0
@ASCII-only Hello?

@Qwerp-Derp IDK

1:42 AM
Is it any simpler than what we're doing?

I think so?
brb

;_; why can't my brain understand
@ZachGates excuse me what is this and what is it's output even?
I'm confused at what matching means what does this output mean?
it's confusing

@DestructibleWatermelon Hm, I can't remember. Just forget about it :P

@ZachGates Apologies for complicating things - I'm assuming that the intention is that the algorithm needs to theoretically work for larger inputs with a single solution, but only needs to demonstrably work for 64-bit i, and for those i n and x need to be positive integers less than 16?

I know it does something

1:55 AM
heh. Maybe I'll just put my issue as a challenge on the site :P

@Sp3000 i is guaranteed to be a positive, 64-bit integer or smaller (but theoretically could be any positive number with a single n, x solution set)
for the challenge, n and x are guaranteed less than 16

k, I think I get your intention now - I think if the spec is worded a bit clearer and you added an example calculation that'll be all good :)
(currently some of the sentences contradict each other)

which sentences in particular?

The n and x must be less than 16 with the theoretically works sentence

how exactly should I convert a string to a list of chars? (python)

2:02 AM
@DestructibleWatermelon list(<your string>)

@Sp3000 Hm, I mean that the input integer cannot be represented by values of n or x greater than 15. I've attempted to clarify in my last edit

apparently my program is to bloated to analyse...

@ZachGates Thanks, I think that's better :) maybe just an example calculation to show how one of the test cases work? Then no more comments from me I promise :)
Deleted my comments to reduce clutter

No, no, keep the comments coming as long as you have them :P you're very polite with them (as opposed to distastefully blunt). I haven't created an algorithm to do this, yet so I'm not sure how I'd add an example calculation
The best I can do is give an example like 524288 = 8*(4**8)

2:08 AM
my face when I see an inefficient golf:

Oh, golf (move along >.>)

@ZachGates what are you trying to do?

@ZachGates That's basically all that's necessary :) it's just to make the connection painfully obvious (you have large test cases so it's hard to test in your head)

Is there someone mathematically-inclined who is willing to look over my sandbox post about Dempster-Shafer theory? meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/10096/2867 It's a generic "perform this algorithm"-type challenge, but I want to know if people understand what is going on.

2:10 AM
@orlp :O you are flawr???

@Sp3000 Sweet, I'll go ahead and add that then

@ZachGates what is the problem?

@orlp I believe I've gotten it all clarified, but I'm open to suggestions

CMC: replace every occurrence of g or G in your chat messages with p or P
Po!

@ZachGates I think the confusion is that you say it should work for any i
while you say that n and x should be less than 16

2:13 AM
@ZachGates Sorry, I was thinking more of a "the first test case is 15, 11 because the input is 15*11^15"

@orlp Theoretically. For the purposes of the challenge, it should work for any 64-bit integer i or smaller that has only one solution

@ZachGates but that's impossible
consider i = 17
only solution is x = 17, n = 1
which violates x < 16

Right. That's not a valid input

@Sp3000 you lose :(

@ZachGates so it's not any i

2:15 AM
I should just remove the 64-bit restriction on input and leave it open to arbitrarily large numbers

wait I don't think I actually needed a parser...

Done. The algorithm should work for arbitrarily large integers, i that have only 1 solution for n and x.

how to know the dev messed up in vim 101 >_>

@HelkaHomba Well pee, the post pot obscured in the barrape of messapes
Probs not the best idea actually, it's messing with my phone dict

@Dennis You're right and this issue keeps coming up. I'm not sure how to properly disallow solutions of 1,x

2:23 AM
@ZachGates if a solution with n > 1 and x > 1 exists, mandate it
otherwise (e.g. prime number), output either version

@ZachGates The easy way would be to require n > 1 and x > 1.

@Dennis not possible
e.g. i=17

How about "Return the largest possible set of n and x"?

^ was about to say what Dennis said, and undefined behaviour for other inputs

@ZachGates it's a pair of integers, those are not well-ordered
what is the 'largest' of a pair of integers?

2:25 AM
Largest how?

largest sum will always be [1,i]

Smallest possible sum of n and x *

And in case of a tie?

(Personally I still think restricting n,x > 1 and undefined behaviour for no or multiple solutions is easiest)

IMO just mandate non-trivial solutions (with n ^ x > 1)
unless those don't exist
then just output n = 1 x = i

2:31 AM
So... print any valid nontrivial solution where possible otherwise (1, i)?

> Given a positive integer, i, determine and return the solution for n and x with the smallest sum as an array [n, x].

I really don't like the smallest sum solution
that requires extra logic not really relevant to the problem

What if there are 3 solutions?

most of my program needs restructuring ._.

Something kind of... Unsettling. I'm looking at IE behavior and I see that statements like let s = 5 are syntactically valid, but don't do anything to s .-.

Dmitry KudriavtsevChallenge Given an input n, print an ASCII art cake n layers tall, viewed from the side, with two candles on top. Refer to the examples below for details. Output >> cake(1) _|_|_ | | +-----+ >> cake(3) _|_|_ | | +---------+ | | +-------------+ | | +...

 x  y  expr
-1  0: 4
 1  0: 0
 0 -1: 0
 0  1: 4

in this language I'm making, * is trivially a quine

you can ignore any other values of x/y

5:08 AM
so, when y-x=1?
If I knew C this would be easy to golf

so 4*(dy-dx==1)
can we get shorter?
4*(dy-dx>0)

y is always one less or one more...

Does x-y&4 work?

@Sp3000 looks like it!

hmmmmm (x-y+1)*2?

5:14 AM
pretty sure Sp's is shortest
since you need both x and y
a shorter solution would have space for 2 extra characters
so one binary and one unary operator

unless there is some <2 byte operator that does it :P

thirtydotRead the other answers here, or read this answer: Content of div is longer then div itself when width is set to 100%? box-sizing: border-box is a quick, easy way to fix it: This will work in all modern browsers, and IE8+. Here's a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/thirtydot/QkmSk/301/ ...

5:22 AM
@Mego box-sizing: border-box is the problem

1k hype

CSS doesn't account for the cropped size for the contents and therefore the image is cut

@seshoumara someone deleting account?

how's would that affect me?

Anonymous
@seshoumara Serial voting reversed, user getting removed, etc.

Anonymous

@Mego I did, nothings seems out of ordinary. I remember yesterday I got +60 and yesterday +10, and both were now the same, so it has to be sth not recent.
When someone deletes his account all the votes he gave to other users are removed as well?

Yes, that is correct

maybe you had a dream that you had more rep... :P

:))

Anonymous
@seshoumara I know that when an account is deleted by the mods/admins, the votes can be removed (usually if the account is a sockpuppet). I don't know if that always applies, though.

6:30 AM
@Mego that makes more sense than always deleting votes on account closure
so, besides that, are there other ways one could have less rep with no downvotes given?
@Mego what did you mean by serial voting reversed?

@seshoumara If someone votes a lot of posts from a specific user/maybe question in a short period of time it can get reversed

Not on a question. Just if it's on a user

Anonymous
@seshoumara Serial voting is when one account votes (usually all upvotes or downvotes) on many of another account's posts in a short amount of time. The usual reasons are rep inflation (often done by the same user, using a sockpuppet) or grudge downvoting. When the SE system detects such abnormalities, it retracts all of the votes, undoing any reputation changes, and punishes the serial voter.

After some digging through my home page tabs, I think I found the reason of my rep loss.
Apparently a question I answered some days ago got deleted.

Which question?
(link?)

6:37 AM
On the reputation tab however nothing looks out of ordinary. The link is broken now. I'll give it in a sec.

The link is broken for you, but I can still see it (if you posted it)

Anonymous
Yeah, users with high enough reputation can see deleted posts

Anonymous
Oh yeah that one

Anonymous
I actually VTC'd it as a dupe, not unclear, but whatever :P

6:39 AM
So unclear was the reason for its deletion?

No, this is the reason:
Low score closed questions are automatically deleted

aha

huh. TIL that deleted questions that are closed as a dupe automagically redirect you to the dupe target (if you don't have enough rep to see them)

I had downvotes as well on my answer to that question, but I think I was 0 or +1 in the end, can't remember.
