Hello, everyone!
Can anyone tell me how do I create a chatroom?
I want to create a chatroom for stealth-pinging because of this.

to create a chat room, you will have to stealth ping one of the mods first.

@Optimizer And risk getting banned again? No, just no.

again?

21 hours ago, by Doorknob
Huh, my hand must have accidentally slipped on that "kick-mute" button. Whoops.

4:13 PM
@Sock :(

I don't think you have enough rep to create a chatroom @Sock
@Optimizer Why did you leave my chatroom?

I'll stealth ping here only if I want to

I just cannot resist the temptation

Should I tell the mods of this act of stealth-pinging?

4:24 PM
Noooooooo....

You should if you decide to do it

Why was stealth-pinginging banned?

\_(~_~)_/
a wild mod has appeared

@Eridan Because the mods believe in moderation I guess. A few people who kept stealth pinging after the joke got old ruined it for everyone.

Huh, my hand must have accidentally slipped on that "kick-mute" button. Whoops.
@Eridan
@Doorknob You did not see me using stealth-ping
*uses Jedi mind trick*

4:26 PM
I wonder why stealth pinging in particular is annoying; perhaps because people have an extra incentive to do it? :/

@Sock mhmm

@Doorknob Is replying to a message with a onebox stealth pinging?

I've never heard of this stealth pinging

You know, I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't point it out haha
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ no

is it pinging, then editing?

4:27 PM
no

@NathanMerrill It's sending a ping through an empty link.
(almost-empty)

Oh wow I just realized I typed pinginging.

[](https://@doorknob)

Oops

This is.

4:28 PM
@Optimizer :O

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ What is "onebox stealth pinging"?

@Rainbolt s|\\|/|g
@Sock something that doesn't exist

Agh I forgot my rule

Wikipedia (/ˌwɪkɨˈpiːdiə/ or /ˌwɪkiˈpiːdiə/ WIK-i-PEE-dee-ə) is a free-access, free-content Internet encyclopedia, supported and hosted by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Those who can access the site can edit most of its articles. Wikipedia is ranked among the ten most popular websites and constitutes the Internet's largest and most popular general reference work. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger launched Wikipedia on January 15, 2001. Sanger coined its name, a portmanteau of wiki and encyclopedia. Initially only in English, Wikipedia quickly became multilingual as it developed similar versions...
sort of a stealth ping :P

4:28 PM
@Doorknob You really should visit this

ok, real reason I came in here:
I need to write a function which produces the sum of two squares in order

@NathanMerrill use JQuery
2

is there a way to iterate through a and b such that a^2 + b^2 naturally fall in order?

@Optimizer ಠ_ಠ

a_a

4:32 PM
Peace out y'all

lets (ab|over)use JQuery as well here so that use of JQuery leads to suspension! Then nobody will be able to add two words..

@NathanMerrill Maybe something like this: Keep a list L. For each i from 0 onward, append to L all pairs (a,b) with a+b == i, then pop the pair (a,b) from L whose a^2 + b^2 is minimal.

I'm back!

from?

Why is this chatroom quiet?

Are you just stealth pinging me with every single message to prove that it is annoying?

I don't know how, but I mysteriously got pinged?

Alright, seven people is just obnoxious. Not gonna tolerate this anymore.

@Sock you know I think you are one of the mods' sock and purposely abusing stealth ping so that the ban stands

4:37 PM
> This user has been temporarily suspended by a moderator and cannot chat for 2 hours 59 minutes.

Seven people pinged

oh!!

I think Optimizer is onto something

huh?

4:39 PM
But what mod would name themselves sock? Isn't that a bit too obvious?

@Rainbolt doesn't matter if the purpose is trolling

@Doorknob How did you know that @Sock pinged 7 people?

it doesn't matter if a troll is ugly or not, it still smells

All this proves is that if your intent is to be annoying (seven people pinged three times in less than 30 seconds), then you will be successful.

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος I looked at the "source" of his message. Also, stop pretending that he isn't you.
2

4:40 PM
@ΚριτικσιΛίθος mods can edit any message

@MartinBüttner non-mods can also look at message histories via manual URL editing shenanigans

4 mins ago, by Sock
Why is this chatroom quiet?

The history only showed two, but the hover over showed the names instead of the weird url stuff.

^^ chat is broken. Open that link directly to know

Let's troll @Sock by sending him pings!

4:42 PM
...

we need "unstars"
"downstars"?

@NathanMerrill that exists
Only for room owners / mods though

@NathanMerrill It exists as flags

@Doorknob can you give somebody a -1 star count?

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος Please only use flags for serious matters.

4:45 PM
I was about to dig up reasons why Facebook never got a dislike button and I found this...

@NathanMerrill No, you can only remove stars entirely

Right. I want negative star counts :P

@Doorknob I was only joking :P

While we're at it, can we get negative close votes (i.e., "vote to not close")?

4:47 PM
Six years old. 422 net score. Still open?

@Rainbolt So reopen votes?

No
You cannot cast a reopen vote on an open question
In fact, all you can do is sit there and watch the question get closed before you cast your vote to reopen.

Oh.

we could also do with negative pings: it pings the writer instead of the reader

why is that question status-completed?

4:49 PM
but appears to come from the reader

Just curious, what's the maximum time a user can be suspended from chat?

@NathanMerrill reader as in the whole chatroom?
@ΚριτικσιΛίθος worried about your sock?

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος Should I try it on you, to find out?
:P

A: How about a "Vote not to close" option to counter the "Vote to close"?

Shog9As the Mechanical snail points out, this has now been implemented, though not quite as-requested. Of note: Only accessible from the review queue (so rather difficult to target a specific question). Yes, this is very much by-design. Voting against closing does not override anyone's close vote....

> though not quite as-requested

4:50 PM
@Optimizer oooh, that's even better than my original idea
pings everybody else instead of the person being pinged

Oh hey, I just noticed: @MartinBüttner hit 100k rep network wide!
5
Congrats :P

Congrats @Martin

gratz!

Congrats @MartinBüttner!

uh, thanks :)

4:50 PM
If we ever get another Martin I'll be too lazy to congratulate him. I can't type beyond @Martin

everyone! steallth-ping congrats him! :P

If I were @Sock, then I would have congratulated you by stealth-pinging :)

> If
-_-

@Rainbolt there's this tab thingy

Oh.... @MarTAB WIN!

4:51 PM
@Rainbolt bro, that is not lazy. I just press @M<tab>

pressé

But wait. If we get another Martin and his name is Martin Awhatever then would he be first alphabetically in the tab list?

@Rainbolt whoever talked last

Ah, okay

4:52 PM
and you can repeatedly use tab to cycle through all applicable names

Whoah

How did I not know about this

Because magic.

I think it's a fairly recent upgrade chat received.

4:53 PM
I know more about Magic than anyone in here I'm pretty sure

@Rainbolt Then how do you summon a fireball? :)

Well ideally you've got some mountains out...

You just pay 1 plus X

[r]ead the spellbook (+), and then [Z]ap to cast the spell. Wait, this isn't Nethack?

For a larger one, use Fira or Firaga.

4:55 PM
Magic The Gathering cards look so similar to the ones in Yugioh...

@MartinBüttner it has been there since I joined, so 1+ year

@Optimizer I don't think so... there was tab completion but it was less powerful than it is now

well, I do not remember completion where tab didn't cycle..

@MartinBüttner Tab completion has become more powerful by Magic.

4:57 PM
@NathanMerrill test
:(

@Optimizer test

@Optimizer I wonder if I have been mixing it up with this meta.stackexchange.com/questions/268351/…
about a year, so you might be right

About a year is "fairly recent" for chat upgrades ;)

not for users like Rainbolt and you

5:01 PM
I'm not sure what you mean by that. I just meant that chat sees upgrades very slowly.

oh, but its not recent wrt us more so regular chatters

Can't figure out if trolling or serious...

since there is no stealth ping, I must be serious

@aditsu codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/65300/triangulating-text/… this is a good point actually. is that ever useful? I think characters almost always get converted to strings if a string is required?

5:23 PM
@Geobits I just started playing FF Tactics and was disappointed that after Fire came Fire II, not Fira :(

Yea, the old ones are all like that. I think it wasn't until 7 that Fira was even a thing, but they've changed them to match in the remakes since.

Yea, the remake isn't available on PSN
So I took what I could get

I know what you mean. I've got a Vita loaded up with most of them.

I bought Harvest Moon for PS Vita. I don't own a Vita. I'm angry that the store allowed me to buy a game I can't play, but it's my fault I guess.
The general response others in my situation have gotten is "You had to confirm your order like three times. How did you fail three times?"

Huh. Did it let you do that from the console or from a browser? I'd have thought it wouldn't let you from the console.

5:26 PM
From the console

Yea, that just seems broken to me.

There isn't even a way to filter by games I can play on the console I am currently using

On Vita it filters automatically. It was a nice addition, and I forgot the consoles didn't do it.

I know I was playing Harvest Moon on the PS1 or PS2. What I didn't remember from six years ago is that my cousin had the Vita hooked up to the console so that we could use the big screen.

I'd say to get a Vita, but that's a really hard recommendation these days :(
They're great for PSN classics, but other than that....
Such wasted potential.

5:34 PM
@MartinBüttner How do I input something on the Ruby implementation of Labyrinth?
(It was something with echo)

echo "input" | ruby interpreter.rb code.lab

Thanks! (To a Javascript fan like me, this reads as: either output something or run a labyrinth program...)

you clearly haven't used the command-line enough ;)

XD (GUIs are cooler!)

(in fact, even in JavaScript I doubt that | would short-circuit)

5:39 PM
| is bitwise or

Yeah...that's right! XD

@Stefnotch so your interpretation is wrong

Oh, yeah....doesn't matter!
(Bad excuse for screwing up..)

haha, I was just wondering what my Retina answer to Triangulating Text would do if I removed two lines... looks neat too: goo.gl/7t86J6
coming soon to a PPCG near you "Parabolate Text"
@Calvin'sHobbies ^

"Output + if the input is Phillips, - for Slot, * for ` Torx` and : for Spanner."

5:43 PM
Oh, wow! That interpreter looks awesome!

Is ^ too simple for a challenge?

CH changed a d to an s in my triangle text and now it makes no sense.

heh
@Stefnotch it's Dennis's

*looks at the source*
*not golfed*
What!!?

@Dennis why is the output in your interpreter non-selectable?
Also, when I try to autocomplete @D, I see this :
Why is there a sock right next to Dennis' icon?

5:47 PM
@Optimizer because your browser
@Optimizer because there are two users with that username

I thought we didn't allow username collision.

we do
whoever "we" is
(are)

Wait, so I could imitate Dennis, post a crappy answer and get a billion rep?

and a suspension on top, sure
(Also, I don't know about others, but I don't vote on Dennis's answers because they are Dennis's answers, but because they are good.)

Okay, let's try this again. Chat mini-challenge: Output + if the input is Phillips, - for Slot, * for Torx and : for Spanner. There are no other test cases.

5:51 PM
selected one

@Optimizer Because Firefox solely exists to annoy me. It works fine in Chrome.

@Dennis disabled by definition should prevent text selection. Its chrome which is mis-implementing it.
disabled is supposed to prevent any kind of interaction with the input element
readonly is supposed to make it just non-editable. So selection works in readonly

alert(prompt().replace("Phillips","+").replace("Slot","-").replace("Torx","*").r‌eplace("Spanner",":"))

you are simply using the wrong property for your job and blaming firefox :)

@MartinBüttner XD :D
Oh, Optimizer said something interesting! :D

@Rainbolt rly
I may not know anything about Standard or Modern but I'll still beat up you young whipper-snappers

@Optimizer Yup, that fixes it. Thanks!

@Stefnotch the point of the challenge is to take advantage of the fact that there are only four possible inputs

XD My answer would still beat Java...

5:58 PM
@ThomasKwa 11 in CJam: q3bD%":-+*"=
this could probably only be beaten by finding a 2-byte or 3-byte transformation of a string into a number, which gives all 4 strings in different residues mod 4
or maybe something that actually transforms the strings into the correct offsets from some character, but that would be mad luck

oooooohhhh hexgrids :)

@Martin Would more cases make it more interesting? And are there languages with a different shortest approach?

I'm glad this stealth pinging business has stopped ^_^

@ThomasKwa I don't know. I think it's going to boil down to something like this. You could also do something like q1="hlop""+-*:"er but at least in CJam that's longer.

6:09 PM
Should I make the number of cases too large to brute-force, say fifteen?

sure, why not
I'm not saying it's a bad challenge
just expect very short answers using modulo-magic

yep, all nouns are capitalised in German

Also, when I do division by 0 in JS, it doesn't really return an error. Should I make it return an error?

Q: Calculate the Kronecker symbol

Sherlock9Relevant links here and here, but here is the short version: You have an input of two integers a and b between negative infinity and infinity (though if necessary, I can restrict the range, but the function must still accept negative inputs). Definition of the Kronecker symbol You must return ...

@Stefnotch It depends. You are writing an online interpreter, no?

Yep!

Good for you! :D I've made a few, all in JS. On division by zero, you should stick to the spec. If it's undefined, then I would consider what I would want it to do. IMHO, division by zero should return +/-Infinity, or NaN.
If it's your language, I would error on zero; it's the popular consensus here.

Ok!

6:49 PM
What's your language?
Labryinth?

(It it Martin's language...and apparently his Ruby implementation doesn't like division by zero)

Oh. Yeah, stick to that.

What's the coolest error message you could think up for it?

I like consistency in error messages, but my personal favorite is Arithmetic rejected: division by zero encountered at index [index]
A little wordy, but eh ^_^

Consistency is good. Just use "Stop that" for every error.

6:52 PM

@Geobits Don't be a ><> ;)

I'm not. My arrow doesn't point right, left, or right.

It hasn't even been pinned for 24 hrs yet. For a suspension-rule announcement, I don't think that's exactly excessive.

still it already has 23 stars!
