@Optimizer Whales are mammals, not fish ...

If you are a shark, you could bite people! That has to be a lot of fun! revenge is sweet?

@Stefnotch then he will be a (•_•) / ( •_•)>⌐■-■ / (⌐■_■) Geobites

XD Bye!

I don't know too many people I'd like revenge on, but there may be a few. Can I not be a shark full-time? That would get pretty old. Some sort of transmogrifier gun would work.
(assuming I have shark-thumbs to hold it)

@Stefnotch Peace out!
@Geobits Or a friend.

7:05 PM
Sharks don't have friends.

how do you know?

But downvoters do--oh wait. ;)

I got some residue on my Seriously

@Optimizer I met some once. They're total assholes for the most part.

how are you still alive?

7:06 PM
@Optimizer how do you think? ;)

ahhhhh

? People can meet sharks without dying...

he became a shark too!

I see sharks basically every time I'm at the beach. It's Florida, there are just sharks here, it's no big deal.

> just sharks
> no big deal

@Mego Did you end up publishing your Bernoulli numbers question? I had decent Python answer that I may have lost, but could retype and use for that question

@Optimizer Well, not normally the big man-eating type, but still sharks ;)

@Sherlock9 I haven't yet, I'm probably going to put it on Main today

I have 2 socks

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Me too, I'm wearing them now. My feet are nice and warm.

I have a lot. Wearing the same two every day would be weird.

@Mego Indeed!
I "actually" have three socks.

7:12 PM
@Geobits I used to have a lot, but my dryer keeps eating them

You should consider obedience classes for it.

@Seadrus is my sock, because I am @Geobits sock. </sarcasm>

@Mego How did you get to know who my sock is?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Where is the open sarcasm tag?

I put X socks in the dryer (after they go through the washer). I pull Y socks out of the dryer, where Y is strictly less than X.

@Geobits I should do this with Seriously. If the -d flag isn't on, when it encounters an "error" (quotes because they don't really exist), it outputs a random one of ['oops', 'umm', 'err', 'sorry', 'stop that', 'pardon', 'hurk blargh'] to stderr

If I lose a foot, I'll definitely be making puns. "What I lack in feet, I make up for in socks."

@Mego Can't you grow feet?

@Mego If I lose a foot, an arm, and part of my chest, I'll say, "I'm not half the man I used to be"

@Mego Alright. I'll be working on my own posts in the meantime

I love your edit descriptions. "Major editing", "Minor editing"

@Rainbolt who, me?

@Rainbolt Hahaha I have autocomplete and I don't want to clutter it, so I just throw those in there when needed

@TanMath No

@Rainbolt Revision history does most of the work for me

@TanMath just a guess: it's too simple and people don't like the slightly egocentric bonus.

7:48 PM
@MartinBüttner okay, no bonus then
@MartinBüttner how shall I make it more complex?
I thought the secret for a good challenge is a simple challenge

you could allow palindromic multi-digit squares like 121 (maybe)

I second that

I was thinking to have a bonus like that

Is it more or less complex if you allow a digit to belong to multiple squares?

@MartinBüttner but would 11211 be under that?

7:50 PM
^^^ make it canon

@Rainbolt ??

@TanMath you can partition it into 1 121 1

@MartinBüttner ok, but 1491 would not be allowed, correct?

it's not a palindrome, is it?

7:52 PM
Assuming you take Martin's suggestion for multiple digit squares, can a digit can belong to more than one square?

stop the spam or you can think for 30 minutes about how much nicer a chatroom would be where the pointy ASCII characters don't outweigh the useful content on the site

@MartinBüttner it is fun! isn't this a place to have fun?

@TanMath you have a curious definition of fun

Hay, why'd my message get removed? D: (Don't worry, I know. :D I'm not an idiot. :D)

It's clearly spam, I flagged it as such, and the flag was denied (only to be quickly deleted five seconds later in one giant group)

@Rainbolt I'll be sure to validate the next one

But I guess >>> doesn't look like spam to anyone not in here

@MartinBüttner huh?

@Rainbolt It looks like a REPL :P

@MartinBüttner You'll have to be fast I guess

7:55 PM
@MartinBüttner are you forgetting the time when you used to partake in such activities?

@TanMath you could also consider allowing squares whose reverse is also a square if those exist

@MartinBüttner but if the palindrome is a square, then its reverse is the same and it would be a square too!

What does x**2 mean?

@TanMath 121

Sorry for repeating this but it got lost and I forgot to ping @TanMath: Assuming you take Martin's suggestion for multiple digit squares, can a digit can belong to more than one square?

Anonymous
7:56 PM
@TanMath We gave you suggestions to fix the logical errors and to reword the challenge to fit what you originally intended (splitting on perfect squares yields a palindromic list). You made the challenge more trivial.

@TanMath assume for a moment that 63 was a square... then you could partition a number like 63436 palindromically into squares

I'm an idiot disregard

7:58 PM
@Mego I was assuming that the partition would have to be symmetric
@Optimizer in caret spam? I definitely do not remember doing that.

Anonymous
@MartinBüttner I was trying to give another example where it wasn't a bunch of single-digit spam :P

@Mego yeah, but 94 is not a square, so your partition would have been 49 1 9 4 which is not symmetric

There's a billion ways to go with the challenge that don't involve checking if a number is 0, 1, 4, or 9 so I guess we just wait and see what TanMath does

which ideas do you guys like?

Anonymous
@MartinBüttner 4 9 1 9 4 or 49 1 94 (pretending 94 was a square)
