Low-effort jokes are the best. I repeated a joke I made 12 hours ago with a minor variation and got a star for it.
how does one prove that the distribution of circles is the same?
if you prove that any given permutation is as likely as any other, that proves it's uniform
I'm pretty sure the second method I described is at least uniform
although...
yeah i think it's probably O(n) also
right, but with 5 people, I think that the naive way doesn't produce different circles at the same frequency
i'm not sure what the naive way means
just brute force trying permutations and checking that they don't assign someone to himself?
4:03 AM
yes
@Mego Erm, someone wasn't here 12 hours ago, perhaps... ^^"
here's another method: pick a random person. for every person that is assigned to himself, swap him with someone else.
at random
the swap cannot result in either of the swapped being assigned themselves
Reached the right edge!
I believe that will work
(this is the same as the method used to construct uniform graphs with a given degree sequence)
or rather, the method within that that ensures connectivity is maintained
so who finds this as beautiful as i do: esolangs.org/wiki/UberGenes#Python_2

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ The joke from 12 hours ago was also starred
@Mego @MartinBüttner's joke?
Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Oh, I thought my joke (which prompted Martin's joke) also got starred. I misremembered. Oh well.
@Mego Oh well indeed. What was it?
4:12 AM
@Mego 154 coins in 3000-something seconds.
I've got a great idea. Basically I'll get a HoloLens, then code an app that allows you to augment a microwave around an object, that you're pointing at, then blast microwave waves towards it C:
@AlienG Step 1: be rich.
Step 2: Get lit
jk, don't do drugs kids
Huh, 169 coins in the entire game. Dang.
@Mego why is your explanation maker so complicated, mine is half the lines and does the same thing
4:17 AM
@El'endiaStarman ^
You guys looked at the obfuscated source code for the xkcd yet?
@NathanMerrill sprunge.us/GAgb
@phase great now write an auto-golfer kthx
Also, someone made a map of the xkcd, but you can't zoom out too far (I changed the pen to allow it, and it'll consume your CPU and RAM.) codepen.io/KyleDavidE/full/WQBawV
@quintopia wut
Wait, found a good overview:
@quintopia I'm suspicious about the k+=(k>=person) line
4:22 AM
@mbomb007 ZOMG.
@mbomb007 That was quick
Oh, I'm pretty sure that rock island in the sky is where the other 15 coins were...
I think a better solution would simply to have a hashmap of all elements, and remove yourself
actually, that's not random
@El'endiaStarman 3042 seconds. Forgot how many coins.
Oh, there's a spiral in the Star Destroyer that I missed.
4:24 AM
Star this message if you want to unpin @Doorknob's message ;)
Oh, I missed the Apollo command module too.
@NathanMerrill it just makes sure you don't pick yourself.
oh, nevermind, I understand what you are doing
@El'endiaStarman Hidden passages:
that's genius, because it increments all picked indices above itself
I was reading it as (if it picked itself, increment by 1)
4:26 AM
I found all of this from the explainxkcd page, basically.
yeah. i almost wrote an if else block with the second one having k+1 in the indices
and i was like
@mbomb007 I got all those too.
nah
too lazy
@El'endiaStarman To see a list of coin coordinates you have not yet collected:
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ eh, it'll be unpinned automagically eventually
4:28 AM

       var I = explorer.objects[S];

           L++;
       } else {
           console.log(I.x1.toString() + ", " + I.y1.toString());
       }
   }
   console.log("You've found " + L.toString() + " of 169 coins");
@Doorknob Eᴠᴇɴᴛᴜᴀʟʟʏ ɪs ᴀ ʟᴏɴɢ ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ;)
@mbomb007 I found the one hidden passage inside the dark tower, but it was lame because nothing was there
I never went to the top though...
@quintopia I skipped exploring after going through lots of the star destroyer. That's when I decided to look up a map, etc.
Okay, visited the Apollo command module and the floating rock island. I'm satisfied now. :P
Where is the Steven Universe stuff located?
I heard it's on the left side somewhere. Also, where is Darth Vader?
4:33 AM
Star Destroyer, close to the bubble on the "upper left". You'll have to go through tunnels to get to him though.
...or just turn on noclip
so, is there an overview of the whole map? codepen.io/KyleDavidE/full/605dc87b614ff6b2bd716f4c6f640203 doesn't zoom out enough :/
Good night guys!
@mbomb007 oh wait, is that all of it?

I noticed in this answer that the character is used. It's meant to "shorten" )), but two parentheses are 2 bytes whereas is three bytes. So the author knows the answer could be golfed, but is choosing to optimize for character count instead. Is that a problem?
I think ESMin uses UTF-8, by the way.
Maybe he doesn't realize
5:11 AM
@ThomasKwa Last time I asked him about his unicode character choice he said something along the lines of "it looks cool", I'd assume the same
Huh
I don't like when people choose not to golf an answer because it looks cool

@Calvin'sHobbies Radioactive penguin?
heh, even a simple search for goat finds some awesome images
@ThomasKwa I don't recall saying that. I chose non-ASCII chars because the newb me back then didn't understand that characters could hold multibyte values. So I started plucking out chars that looked symbolically logical, and before I knew it, there was no going back. (I don't regret that decision, though.)

@Downgoat "lose" -> opposite of gain. "loose" -> opposite of tight.

@ןnɟuɐɯɹɐןoɯ That's not the point. Code golf is scored by bytes. You need to try to win. It's not a problem if you include a short-in-chars solution alongside the golfed solution, but only trying to optimize for character count is against the goal of code-golf.
It'd be like if I golfed in Java, but decided that since Java isn't very good at code golf, I'd try to minimize the number of variables used instead.
5:43 AM
@Mego Are you sure. lose == loose seems to return true in this programming language
"##Java, 8 variables/444 bytes"

@AlexA. I don't know how to get the max amount of spaces when iterating over them :\
@phase Maximum amount of spaces of what when iterating over what?
@AlexA. The list of explanations
6:08 AM
Well, you find the length of the command you're explaining for each command, get the maximum length, figure out how much space you want before the explanations, then do space_wanted + max_length - current_length spaces for each line.
@AlexA. but I don't have the max length
Go through the sections of code you want to explain. For each segment, figure out how long it is. After that, you'll know all the lengths, so you'll know which is longest.
so close
Looking better though!
