Okay, so fortune has no effect on gold ore
:(
Oh well

@SuperJedi224 what?
Oh right yeah
It just drops as a block.

Yep.

Q: Name large numbers using concatenation of Latin roots for its units, tens, and hundreds place, together with the suffix -illion

Farhan AnamThe title might make it seem more complex but I could not find a more suitable one. 'Naming large numbers' is way too simple. Coming to the actual code challenge: The Challenge You must write a program (excluding the method in which it is to be executed) which will input an integer in scientifi...

@Lembik In any case, the screenshot in the answer makes no sense at all. Should be a GIF if anything

@mınxomaτ right and this youtube video! youtube.com/watch?v=PWf4aKW3UhI&feature=youtu.be

8:01 PM
@Rainbolt I don't know why but you and Doorknob seem like the same people to me :P

I can't see a moving pixel there either
I feel it might be a joke :)

@BetaDecay ...?

@NewMainPosts @MartinBüttner fastest dupe in the west

oh wait

@BetaDecay I can assure you they aren't.

8:02 PM
@Lembik The video shows the moving pixel perfectly. Adjust your monitor brightness

I saw it!

Alex doesn't like NetHack for one thing

@quartata I had looked for that one just a week ago or so when someone posted almost the same thing in the sandbox.

@Lembik I ran it on my W95 VM in DOS mode and it works as expected.

@mınxomaτ hmm... maybe it's just the linux qb64 that doesn't work

8:03 PM
@quartata How is that statement relevant to anything right now? Also I never said I don't like Nethack, I just don't understand it.

anyone brave enough to run QBASIC code in QB64 on linux?

Well I mean it's pretty difficult to have one sock obsessed with NetHack and one not obsessed. (This was in reply to Beta saying you seemed like the same person as Doorknob)

@Lembik One shouldn't use qb64 to run QBASIC. Use qemu + freedos or DOSBox

@mınxomaτ interesting.. I was just following the author's suggestion

Why don't either of you use the reply button

8:06 PM
@MartinBüttner Penny for your thoughts on meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/7332/45151 ? You seem to be the person who is good at keeping track of this catalog stuff

@quartata He said that to Rainbolt, not me

Anonymous
what reply button

Quartata thinks Beta Decay said Alex and Doorknob were the same person. How confusing...

@AlexA. oh

@Mego ಠ_ಠ

8:06 PM
Now I'm really confused

@quartata All I know right now is that we have at least 4 catalogues in the sandbox now.

catalog ue s :P

@quartata Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction.

@MartinBüttner See you are good at keeping track of this stuff

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

quartataTruth Machine Catalog A truth machine (credits goes to dis guy for coming up with it) is a very simple program designed to demonstrate the I/O and control flow of a language. Here's what a truth machine does: Gets a number (either 0 or 1) from STDIN. If that number is 0, print out 0 and termin...

8:07 PM
:P

Martin is good at keeping track of everything.

Sometimes I forget where the sandbox is and I go write my specs in the sandbox at the park

Clearly we need a catalog catalogue to keep track of this stuff.

@feersum You know we do have that?

Haha we actually do

8:08 PM
@feersum We do, but I forget where it is

Q: Does PPCG fulfil a role as a catalogue for golfed solution of standard programming exercises?

Martin BüttnerRosetta Code collects solutions to standard programming exercises in hundreds of programming languages. However, it focuses on "good" or idiomatic solutions in those languages. I'm not aware of a similar catalogue from a golfing perspective. Is PPCG capable of fulfilling that role? Do we have cha...

We need a catalog to keep track of it

@mınxomaτ the other qbasic solution works perfectly for me

It doesn't say catalog catalog anywhere!
2

Where are all the diamonds?

8:09 PM
@feersum yeah, I actually thought that's what it is when writing it, but I figured it would be too ridiculous to actually write that anywhere :P

@SuperJedi224 In this room.

I see what you did there

If every Stack Exchange site had a catalog catalog like we do, then could we make a catalog catalog catalog?

I'm at y=5 right now

@SuperJedi224 y<16
@SuperJedi224 Maybe the RNG hates you then
It's very judgmental

8:10 PM
Hey, I'm underneath a flower forest

@MartinBüttner It'll probably be a while before sorting is ready for main, if it ever is.

@PeterTaylor I assume that no close votes have been cast on the old Huffman question yet because it's still being discussed.

^

I love that QBASIC is winning

@AlexA. I might try getting cat ready for tomorrow.

8:13 PM
Just found some diamonds
Yay

@SuperJedi224 Was it Martin and me?

and I also love PPCG.. it's a great community
2
unlike some other *.se sites :)

@Lembik PPCG loves you too.

@MartinBüttner It was not sarcastic. I really did mean it.

@El'endiaStarman Okay, I was hoping so, but it's hard to tell with short comments sometimes. ;)

8:15 PM
@AlexA. :)
except for when I pose questions about binary vectors/matrices :)

I'm honestly quite confused as to why this meta post was downvoted. It doesn't actually matter at all, I just don't understand the reasoning.

@ΚριτικσιΛίθος Here's my first pass for speed on your TI-BASIC program:

@AlexA. Geobits

if anyone wants to post an answer in C/C++ that would be great!

:P

8:16 PM
just saying :)

He's a force of nature. He cannot be stopped. He cannot be reasoned with. He just is.

Man, this chat is really active.

@Lembik In a bro-love kind of way. Not a weird romantic way.

@AlienG PPCG taught me how to type faster than conventional means

AIM did that for me many, many years ago.

8:17 PM
@AlexA. :) You never know.. maybe not every single person here is male
it's just possible :)

I really hope we're more diverse than a giant sausage fest.

but maybe not representable in a 32 bit float :)

@AlexA. Sausage? Where?

burgers?

8:19 PM
big sausage ...

@AlexA. I actually really like some kinds of vegetarian sausages

@Lembik I may be able to win in TI-BASIC; the problem is I don't have a color TI-84

@ThomasKwa You don't?

@quartata I recommend Field Roast apple sage if you can find it near you. A carnivorous friend of mine actually loves them.

8:19 PM
I have one, do you need me to test anything?
@AlexA. mm I will look for it

Sausage quest

Sure... I'll post an answer sometime. Can you tell me if it doesn't work?
@quartata

@AlexA. @quartata You are vegetarians/vegans too?

is there no simulator?

@Zgarb I am not a vegetarian.

8:21 PM
@Zgarb I am!

But Alex is I believe.

r u bb

ninja'd again lel

@quartata What would give you that idea?

I mean TI-Basic emulator

8:21 PM
@AlexA. Because you've said it before

@quartata I got a pretty short Vitsy answer for your truth machine so far. :P

I'm vegetarian, close to being vegan (but that's difficult).

@quartata actually, do you want to post a TI-BASIC answer?

@ThomasKwa No I'm terrible at TI-BASIC

@Zgarb I'm vegan. Been so for about 6 years.

8:22 PM
@Lembik It's technically illegal to use an emulator for a calculator you don't own

@Lembik Yeah it's pretty shady legal-wise

@quartata orly?

@AlexA. Cool!

@AlexA. so no milk?

@ThomasKwa interesting...

8:22 PM
@Optimizer Yeah. I'm lactose intolerant so I couldn't have it anyway.

@quartata these are 10-15 year old calculators or older?

@Lembik s/interesting/I\'m deleting that from my computer now/g

@AlexA. birds don't eat meat

@VoteToClose :)

@Lembik You'd think that would make a difference but nope

8:24 PM
@Mego worms?
@quartata I learned something new :)

Anonymous
Not all birds eat worms

I just accidentally sent my minecart up the stairs without me
:(

@Mego I feel you are about to diss some worms :)

@Lembik The latest model came out this year, but the non-color versions stopped being updated in 2004

8:24 PM
@ThomasKwa ah ok

@Zgarb What's holding you back out of curiosity? (I don't ever want to convince anyone to change their diet, I'm just curious.)

worm.exe

@Optimizer Fun game

The original TI-83 came out in 1996; TI-BASIC has basically been the same since then

i am going to stop staring at the answers for a bit and hope when I come back some new languages will have appeared :)

8:25 PM
bye guys

Worms World Party for Windows XP is where its at.
@SuperJedi224 Buy

@SuperJedi224 bai

Bigh?

@AlexA. Eating out with other people, mostly. At home I eat vegan.

@AlexA. Saw a new store the other day called Buy Buy Baby. Never been more disturbed by a store name in my life

8:27 PM
Was it an adoption center? :P

@AlexA. No it was like a store for cribs and stuff

Yeah I figured

@quartata Their jingle: "Buy buy baby, baby good buy"

Anonymous
> TI-BASIC ... basically

QBASICally

8:28 PM
@AlexA. What exactly is QBASIC?
It's the only BASIC variant I can't remember off the top of my head

It's whatever they were talking about earlier.
Idk

Anonymous
I know AlphaBASIC from having to use it for a year at a job

> only BASIC variant

@ThomasKwa I've used a lot of BASIC

Why?

8:32 PM
For fun mostly

I've avoided all BASIC like the plague as long as I've known of its existence.

Occasionally because the computer in question could only be programmed in it
IDK I like old computers and languages

Are you ancient?

@AlexA. No

:P

8:33 PM
I prefer to call myself "retro"

Haha

What is happening to the star board
Uh oh not again

> fun
I don't understand.

I can only assume it's one of the peope who just showed up. glares at flawr and Conor

10 PRINT HELP I AM TRAPPED IN THE COMPUTER
20 GOTO 10

8:36 PM
@ThomasKwa I enjoy learning programming languages

@TimmyD
My most famous drawing, and one of the first I did for the site
2

Woah, freaky

@quartata, what happens when you type in on the calculator ZStandard:Pt-On(1,1,13? What about Pt-On(1,1,1,13?

@flawr This is good
@flawr Hi :)

8:40 PM
wow, I was expecting plane crashes
u let me down

@ThomasKwa Do you know where Pt-On is located?
I can hunt for it in the catalog but if you know it'd be quicker

I AM SO TERRIBLY SORRY @OPTIMIZER PLZ FORGIVE ME PLZ THX BYE

2nd Draw > 1

@ThomasKwa gotcha

@flawr

8:41 PM
@quartata Oh, really?

@ThomasKwa First one puts a purple dot at (1,1)

Hm. Okay

@Lembik Here's the error I'm getting: h65.imgup.net/errorf264.png

@ThomasKwa Second one appears to do the exact same thing

8:44 PM
@quartata ??? I thought at least one would throw an error
Is the dot a single pixel?

@ThomasKwa Yeah
@ThomasKwa I thought so too
Very strange

Star troll again

@quartata can you test this?

8:49 PM
ಠ_ಠ cancels stars

Whoa, star canceled

@ThomasKwa Sure one second

ninja'd

@quartata is there too much flicker?

@mınxomaτ interesting..it all works in QB64 it turns out
@ThomasKwa 35 bytes!!

8:52 PM
@Lembik But then it is QB64 and not Q(ick)BASIC.

true

@Lembik Hold on, we're not sure if it works yet.

@ThomasKwa ah ok
that's the problem with untestable languages :)

@Lembik The other solution runs fine in QB4.5 but the background isn't white.

@mınxomaτ ok.. I don't have QB so I can't usefully comment

8:53 PM
I made a GIF for him how it compiles and runs, uploading rite now...

I was wondering though.. say I made a new challenge where the direction the pixel moves is controlled interactively by pressing a key

@Lembik Yeah, for about a year before I was here Timtech would post TI-BASIC answers that didn't work

is that much harder in any of the languages that are doing well currently?
@ThomasKwa ah!

Not really

@ThomasKwa There's a bit of flicker yeah

8:54 PM
so TI-Basic supports interactivity like that?

Can you lower the timer?

What do you mean, lower the timer?

@ThomasKwa I remember that. TI-BASIC among other languages, many of which were largely untestable, such as Game Maker Language.

I mean lower the time between redraws
I'm assuming not

Not without a byte penalty.

8:55 PM
Hmm

@AlexA. this is what inspires to require free languages only but then other people get upset
so I stopped doing that

Yeah

Well I don't think it is a big issue since it does appear to go around the circle in 60 seconds

Short delay would be rand added on a 5th line
Longer delay would be rand(9

There aren't any rules about the framerate really

8:57 PM
@AlexA. but my preference would be definitely to stick to free languages
hang on. I am the rules :)
it has to be "smooth"

There's a visible period of maybe .3-.5 seconds where the dot is invisible

@quartata ^^

mkay, I'll change it

@ThomasKwa :( rip golfy answer never forget

8:59 PM
@mınxomaτ very nice

@mınxomaτ noice

these tiny pixels are making me clean my laptop screen regularly :)
