@DJMcMayhem do you mind if I make the Wicka Wub CMC into a challenge using your username as an example?

@cairdcoinheringaahing No, not at all!
Good timing, I just fixed a V bug that should let me shave off plenty of bytes

FYI, I am going to change it a little to make it more difficult

@cairdcoinheringaahing V, 30 bytes: Try it online! (CC @Mr.Xcoder)
@cairdcoinheringaahing Will you ping me when you do?

@DJMcMayhem It'll come through on NSP, I'll ping you then
I love the first sentence of my challenge!
> Given a string as input, wicka-wub it

3:24 PM
@DJMcMayhem Oh, can't beat that

(FTR, I had to fix a bug for that to work)
And it uses some brand new features, so I'm glad it's competitive

@DJMcMayhem the character repetitions should start with 2

Hmm
:/ V is 1-indexed, challenge is 0

Look at this totally official FCC announcement: ecfsapi.fcc.gov/file/DOC-578e376efac00000-B.pdf

@mınxomaτ Alright what nonsense have you done this time :P

You can host arbitrary files on the fcc.gov server without authentication. Apparently.

I foresee no possible way this could be abused.

Including html sites.

3:40 PM
Maybe you should upload the CJam interpreter and link to it :P

@DJMcMayhem There was this pop-con which was closed.

Q: How many partitions do I have?

TheIOSCoderThe partition number of a positive integer is defined as the number of ways it can be expressed as a sum of positive integers. In other words, the number of integer partitions it has. For example, the number 4 has the following partitons: [[1, 1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 2], [1, 3], [2, 2], [4]] Hence, ...

@ASCII-only And the sequel

@ASCII-only huh. I thought that had been posted here before

3:46 PM
@Mr.Xcoder ಠ_ಠ your Pyth answer to ^^^^

@cairdcoinheringaahing Why? Because it has a built-in?

@Mr.Xcoder It's a relatively difficult problem and Pyth has a builtin

> EXPLANATION: ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh yeah... I think I just won it

Its like a language having a builtin for GoL Tetris

If Jelly doesn't in fact have a shorter built-in

3:48 PM
I don't think so

@cairdcoinheringaahing Come on, partitions is definitely not as hard as GOL Tetris

@Mr.Xcoder It clearly is. The challenge only has 2 more answers than GoL. Ergo, they are of similar difficulty

@cairdcoinheringaahing It's like, 2000000 times easier

@cairdcoinheringaahing brb, including that in the design docs for Pish-Posh

@AdmBorkBork If you do that, you win language design

3:51 PM
Just cuz it's in the design docs doesn't mean it's implemented. I'll put it under "Future Releases:"

Waiting on NSP...

Is there a way to search all my posts in this chat? (halp me) (at least couple of the last ones)

@DeadPossum There's a search box in the upper right.

@DeadPossum If you don't care about time, you could CTRL-F all pages of the transcript

@DeadPossum You can go to chat > Profile > Serach for posts containing
@DeadPossum To simplify stuff, you can use this

4:05 PM
you can't have an empty search query

Thanks all!!

@totallyhuman I can if I say I can. Dogs control the internet (after the cats go to sleep)

yeah you can't leave it empty
@cairdcoinheringaahing on the internet nobody knows you're a dog...
...so they can't just allow you to have leadership

@EriktheOutgolfer check my profile picture. I am clearly a dog

@totallyhuman I don't know that kicks have a record. If they do, only mods can see it.

@EriktheOutgolfer ROs get notified of kicks in their rooms if they have a chat tab open.

@Mego how can he still create rooms then?
@Mego I meant in the inbox
of course I know about the topbar notification

I've only been kicked like 2-3 times I think. And never suspended
Although I have had a sock suspended for science

@EriktheOutgolfer The kicks were separated far enough that the restriction didn't trigger. If it did, a mod probably removed it manually.

Hmmm... Maybe I should change my profile picture to a guinea pig

@EriktheOutgolfer We don't get inbox notifications for kicks, no. Just the top bar notification.

btw I don't see why too many kicks should prevent you from creating your own rooms?

@EriktheOutgolfer As with all restrictions, somebody probably did something that caused that restriction to be implemented.

@EriktheOutgolfer cleaned up here :)
btw question to all ... is it ok to add an answer to an own challenge? nothing competitive, just for the fun?

discouraged

@FelixPalmen it's allowed yes

Anonymous
4:34 PM
@FelixPalmen It's fine to answer your own challenge, but usually it's suggested that you wait for other answers so that you don't snipe solutions that others are working on.

And all answers should be competitive
So you can't post a bowled answer

ok thanks all! @Mego that won't be a problem, there are already 11 answers and I seem to be the only crazy guy here trying to find solutions on a C64 ...
I'm aiming for minimal code size, but for my challenge, it will be MUCH larger than some other languages...

Anonymous
As long as you've made an attempt at golfing your code, it's fine

Hmm, so I have this USB fingerprint reader from like 2006, and I'm thinking of playing around with some low-level USB stuff and writing my own "drivers" for it, with no reference or existing documentation. This is gunna take a lot of trial and error and blindly throwing packets at the USB port, isn't it?

Anonymous
People regularly use Java and BF to answer challenges, and those are usually an order of magnitude longer than other solutions

4:37 PM
@Mego alright ... "golfing" is more-or-less a must do for any reasonable C64 code ... limited resources :)

@Mego Not to mention ;# :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing turing-incomplete ;)

;# is not a valid language tho

@EriktheOutgolfer unary? :p

@EriktheOutgolfer The new version is allowed though. It has 2 more builtins that add numbers, and perform a prime test

4:43 PM
unary is turing-complete
@cairdcoinheringaahing that doesn't mean it's turing-complete
it just means it's a "programming language" as long as ppcg is concerned
it can't simulate a turing machine on its own

Also, I don't consider unary a "language". It's just another BF deriviative. If a language is a BFD, but still adds more to the language, its fine. Otherwise its just the same sh*t over and over again

it's quite hard to make a non-turing complete language that can still do a primality check

@TuxCopter a language with 1 builtin should do it

huh? checking for a prime is a a computable problem ...
ah sorry, misread
nevermind

non turing-complete language that fit's PPCG's standards :P

@Pavel Not the literal @, that was just to alert DJ of the quirk

@EriktheOutgolfer ATaco's is Google's, which is also stack exchange's

General consensus please. Is this a bad challenge? Is it unclear or does it not have a winning criteria? Is it too trivial? If no is the answer to all of these, then can someone please explain why 2 people have downvoted it.

Ugh, it took me too long to write an explanation.

@cairdcoinheringaahing I did not downvote but my best guess would be that it's a challenge with arbitrary rules for manipulating a string and some folks didn't find it interesting. It may be true that many challenges can be boiled down to this but for a lot of them the rules are less arbitrary and more like "this is a thing that exists. pls do it"

Poke probably has it accurate.

always celebrates when he gets a +5 vote answer

@cairdcoinheringaahing yes and the way you're going, you could definitely get awesome questions

@totallyhuman He has 27 answers

only celebrates a question when its +25

@muddyfish How can you get +5 for an answer?
Oh nvm

7:54 PM
:P

+5 votes/answers you meant

yeah

@totallyhuman Yes, but I have to get 200 upvotes to match an answer with 100. It's why I'm a massive supporter of the answer = question proposals here

...and your point is? :P

@totallyhuman Take a look at this. This is the highest upvoted answer on the site, yet isn't even golfed.

7:57 PM
ok what about it?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yep, that's awful indeed... You can't do anything about it though

@totallyhuman Per our standards, it isn't even a valid answer, yet over 1000 people have upvoted it, saying that its good.

what do you mean it's not valid?

@cairdcoinheringaahing It is valid per our standards.

I can't find it, but somewhere there is something that says If an answer isn't attempting to golf in a code golf question, it isn't a valid answer

You must admit that even if it is not golfed, It is extremely clever
