Probability that two users will share a ping, x axis being number of users, y axis being probability.
This is nice and assuming names only consist of a-z.

but that isn't always the case

I'm not sure how many characters are acceptable, so I settled with 26 (Not 26*2, because it's case insensitive)

i spy... desmos?

This was generated with the equation $p\left(a,z\right):=1-\prod_{n=0}^{z-1}\frac{a-n}{a}$ Where $a$ is $26^3$ (Number of options ^ number of characters)

12:23 AM
omy my jQuery answer now has more upvotes than the original (practical) answer :P
@ATaco $z=x$ on the graph?

@Downgoat Yeah.

@ATaco does it take into account the character distribution?

12:40 AM
Explain, Also probably not.

@ATaco having th in name is significantly more likely than qd

Oh, yeah there is absolutely nothing considered other than amount of characters.

@ATaco but @ new brings up nobody

local sqrt = math.sqrt
local pairs = pairs

function primeFactorise(n, i)
	for i=i or 2, sqrt(n) do
		if n % i == 0 then
			return i, primeFactorise(n // i, i)
		end
	end
	return n
end

@ATaco lol

12:53 AM
@Stephen That was already fixed.

solving a trick CMC seriously

@LeakyNun < The CMC
Also, I just dug up that from the chat logs.
Back from when we were trying to optimize Prime Factorization in Lua.

dammit

oh boy

12:58 AM
i thought i had out-golfed somebody in mathematica
then they out-golfed me back by 27 bytes ._.

@NickClifford what?

@WheatWizard deary me. That is one UGGGLLYYYY profile pic
Why????

@cairdcoinheringaahing how long did ;# go on for?

@2EZ4RTZ I had the intention of making the most ugly profile picture

@WheatWizard you succeeded, no doubt

1:00 AM
@WheatWizard to quote Dennis "Please don't"

@NickClifford too long and not long enough. I have one last ;# challenge which is actually quite interesting. I'm gonna post it in a few hours

what

@cairdcoinheringaahing I'll be looking forward to it

That is damn ugly, I love it.

Q: CSE problem using for loop

user73826A common punishment for school children is to write out a line a given number of times. Create a program that takes in the sentence to be written out, and the number of times it needs to be repeated, and produce the desired output.Use for loops

1:03 AM
@NewMainPosts nuke with VTCs. Now

That was a very fast close.

you're no better than a farmer with a pitchfork and torches

Lol, what did LyricLy VTC as?

1:05 AM
Whoops, wrong one.
sweats

My two best messages
"@Dennis I will always stay normal for you :D"
And the one right after that
"*as normal as people on PPCG can be"
I used a ZWS for the ping quote so no real ping

@lyr what did you VTC as?

Unclear what you're asking.

@LyricLy it's fine. I'll just note you name down for the Great Golfinator

^_^

1:06 AM
Well, in all credit, it is quite clear. Just not a good challenge

^
if anything it's a dupe
I'm in favor of reopening and finding a proper dupe target :P

It does sound like a teacher just found code golf and tried to start teaching us

@ConorO'Brien Don't reopen-hammer, it sets a bad example

> :P
I use the face for a reason

1:08 AM
I use it to tell people not to take anything I say seriously. Not that they do anyway, but that's a different issue.

...then why aren't you following your own rules? :P

Not a single star? That's comedy gold people :P

(n=#;Tr[1^Select[Last@#-First@#&/@(Take[Divisors@#,Round[{-.1,.1}+(1+Length@Div‌isors@#)/2]]&/@Range@10000),#<n&]])& mathematica code is...
cryptic
to say the least

Well
Have you tried proper whitespace

@tot the only thing mathematica is good for is recognising goats. And even that isn't really a very good usage.

1:10 AM
@Pavel sorry, i meant golfed mathematica code

It has a built-in to recognise goats I assume?

@2EZ4RTZ there was a real ping, SE removes ZWSPs

@JonathanAllan remember Upgoat or Downgoat? Check the answers.

ImageInstanceQ[#, "caprine animal"]&
or something

1:12 AM
@ASCII-Only really?

Oh wow LOL it is almost a builtin!

@ConorO'Brien is there a way to get NaN in JS under 3 bytes?

+_ if you have a variable predefined as an object

@2EZ4RTZ nvm then it's just not counted as proper whitespace I guess
@ConorO'Brien help, I have no idea how to make a spaced quine

sorry kinda busy

1:14 AM
@ASCII-only I thought so XD you know you have to use the hex version and it IS invisible

@JonathanAllan That should be added as a requirement for programming languages here. A language must be able to add numbers, perform a prime test and recognise goats.

@2EZ4RTZ my problem is that it doesn't make bolding work in the middle of a word :/
You have to use a hair space for that IIRC

@ASCII-only lol

what?

imma bout to make some uncrackable robbers for the next CnR

1:15 AM
@totallyhuman O_O

what?
it works

Yeah it works but I copied wrong thing

ಠ_ಠ most of those langs are on TIO

@totallyhuman 3 of them are
and I made all of the languages.

1:18 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing vihan.org/p/tio

@ASCII-only +1 for vim mode but -1 for long list on left ಠ_ಠ

@ASCII-only is that Downgoats TIO?

@totallyhuman you know there is search button

ye but the long list is still annoying

@Downgoat I want to make a game with goats vs downgoats. That sound good? (It will be for a competition)

1:20 AM
How often does that get updated? Deorst was only added to TIO yesterday

@cairdcoinheringaahing it updates as TIO updates
its backend is TIO

@2EZ4RTZ but $\text{Downgoat}\in\text{Goats}$

@Downgoat +1 for ,,, being sorted by "commata"

Does this bother people when I use slim spaces?

@2EZ4RTZ yes

1:21 AM
@Downgoat What is that ∈

@2 yes, because it doesn't look like you're using spaces

@2EZ4RTZ "is an element of"

@2EZ4RTZ member of
...eh ninja'd

Ow. my ears

@2 does this ping you?

1:21 AM
nope!

@cairdcoinheringaahing you need three characters
this is the third time i've said that ಠ_ಠ

@2EZ4RTZ set membership

@tot 3 characters, 3 times, 3 commas, clearly 3 is your lucky number

okay @tot :P

see I use @tot because it's easier on mobile. You can get cross with the others, not me

1:23 AM
do you not use beta se mobile chat

@Downgoat kk i gtg

1:28 AM
@Downgoat of course not

Nope

@Downgoat how do i use that formatting?

at least root(n; x^n); n is even

k plaintext version: i^2=-1
sqrt(-1)=i

abs(i)=i??
@Downgoat yeah i think so

@2EZ4RTZ magnitude maybe

@Downgoat please quote your math textbook

hmm maybe they should put norm on both sides.

@LeakyNun brb i have to re-enable flash
Our school still uses flash program for our textbook it is ridiculous

1:32 AM
@Downgoat not your school's fault, it's the textbook vendor's, and it's really quite forgivable

abs(i)=1
@Downgoat yeah it is not true

x = 1

oic stupid 0
for real numbers it seems to be true though

1:34 AM
yeah

@Downgoat what exactly does your textbook say?

$$sqrt(i^2)=sqrt(-1)=i$$
$$abs(i)=1$$

Charcoal verbose mode update incoming

$$1!=i$$

@totallyhuman ??

Profound question: where do you want to be when you're 40 yo (assuming you are younger than 40)?

what did you do

@ASCII-only :O charcoal have command chain

1:36 AM
!= golfed some more

@cairdcoinheringaahing tin cna factory

@Downgoat Not exactly

@carid I want to be married (with kids?) working for a big tech place writing software while moderating PPCG

> A common use of Property 6 is $\sqrt{a^2}=\left|a\right|$.
Property 6:

O_o I made parens optional and only 1 error

1:37 AM
...oh

> For n even, $\sqrt[n]{a^n}=\left|a\right|$.

@2EZ4RTZ I know it sounds cliché but I want to meet a nice guy, get married and have a family. With less coding in my life.

well if they're functions, parentheses are kinda helpful

@cairdcoinheringaahing wait
a guy?

@Downgoat and where is the mention of complex?

1:38 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing :O but PPCG = life?

@2EZ4RTZ yeah
@Downgoat less coding

@LeakyNun no explicit mention but like 50% of course is complex numbers

@cairdcoinheringaahing imma just ask it straight. Are you a female?

@totallyhuman Yeah but sometimes you don't want them :P

Don't answer if you don't want

1:39 AM
@Downgoat is $a$ ever defined in Property 6?

nope

@2EZ4RTZ no, I'm gay

@Downgoat what is that textbook?

there's just a table called "Prerequisite Properties"
@LeakyNun like publisher?

@Downgoat and name

1:39 AM
publisher is Ron Larson called "Algebra and Trignometry"

@cairdcoinheringaahing but he asked it straight /s

@Downgoat page?

@conor biggest o_o ever

@2EZ4RTZ So Dennis but as a programmer not a mathematician?

really? you haven't seen much have you? :P

1:40 AM
@ASCII-only basically

o_o I think I scared off 2EZ

@cairdcoinheringaahing nope just busy

@LeakyNun 30-something
I think

@2EZ4RTZ ok, that's good :P
@ConorO'Brien what do you mean?

page 60 has it

1:42 AM
@Downgoat please. exact page.

"biggest o_o ever"

page 60 not eact?

@Downgoat I found it.
P.16

its like near bottom

Let a and b be real numbers, variables, or algebraic expressions such that the indicated roots are real numbers, and let m and n be positive integers.

1:43 AM
I am the biggest o_o ever. No matter the o_o, I have a bigger o_o. Not a euphemism for anyone who thinks that way.

@LeakyNun where are yuo look?

note to self: let them figure it out before saying it outright next time. It's funnier than way

@cairdcoinheringaahing If you thought I left since you were gay it doesn't effect how I think of you at all

@Downgoat hmm. wait
please show me the whole page?

ok will do in 1 sec takes a while to upload frmo phone

1:46 AM
@Downgaot it is simple. Functions do not go into complex numbers.

Does not seem to be talking about complex numbers

This is the version I found online

is there a page 60 on your online version?

XD

@Downgoat my online version has 1000 pages

1:47 AM
go to page 60 and there should be giant table there
(btw pls link to your online version)

@Downgoat what chapter is that in your version?

@2EZ4RTZ 2 things, 1) no offence but you are some random person on the internet I don't know. I wouldn't be devastated if you didn't talk to me because I came out to you. 2) no, usually I get some kind of reaction when I come out to someone, and it isn't just a stonewall of silence (normally)

@LeakyNun ok that seems to be difference

Q: (Python Challenge) comparing signs of 2 numbers without using < or >

Dylan GroveI've been stuck on this problem I found on a challenge site for awhile now. Little help? Basically I need to compare 2 numbers, if they have the same sign (positive or negative), print "same sign" if they have a different sign, print "different sign" the catch is, I need to do it: without the ...

1:49 AM
@LeakyNun Chapter P
@LeakyNun mine is ninth edition

@Downgoat same here: chapter prerequisite

@cairdcoinheringaahing 1. non taken. 2 yeah I see how that could be odd. anyways i gtg bye o/

@Downgoat so, full page?

1:56 AM
@Downgoat -1 not enough jQuery

@Downgoat ...
it's a summary

If I have a plot which approaches y = 0 at x = a. would a be an x-intercept/zero of the plot?

go back to p.18
@Downgoat what do you mean "approaches"?

like there is a hole in the equation at y = 0

then by definition it wouldn't be.

1:57 AM
hm, ok, is there a term which would encompass it?

limit?
or you can just be specific and tell us the plot you encountered

and what is the function?
@2EZ4RTZ really?

This has a value for for it
but just wondering in this kinda scenario if there wasn't

@Downgoat then they wouldn't ask

1:59 AM
@LeakyNun What??

Q: Significance of $\displaystyle\sqrt[n]{a^n} $?

QuixoticThere is a formula given in my module: $$ \sqrt[n]{a^n} = a \text{ if $n$ is odd } $$ $$ \sqrt[n]{a^n} = |a| \text{ if $n$ is even } $$ I don't really understand the differences between them, kindly explain with an example.

@Downgoat that is why

Q: Why does $\mathrm{abs}(i)=1$

2EZ 4RTZI plugged into google calculator (because that is what I had on hand) $\mathrm{abs}(i)$ and it was said that equaled $i$. Is that true? And if so can I have a proof that it is true? Note: As a HS student taking AP Calculus my math proofs are not very advanced but I do understand the non textboo...

@LeakyNun yes really. I tried to figure it out but couldn't google wasn't any help

Not how. Why was the question

@2EZ4RTZ alright

2:04 AM
It is already more answered then most of my PPCG challenges

@leaky I've been meaning to ask, why did you change you profile picture?

@cairdcoinheringaahing people complained that they can't view my profile picture
I should probably change it back to the original

I think you should go back to the one with you (?) standing in front of a wall

done

@2EZ4RTZ pls accept my answer :3 I have little rep on math.se

2:07 AM
@LeakyNun +1 now I can stalk you associate you with a person

I've yet to see anyone use the word "Argand" in the answer of the math.SE question.

@LeakyNun I've yet to see anyone aside you use the word "argand".

@cairdcoinheringaahing what?
The complex plane is called the Argand diagram

@LeakyNun TIL. Don't know (or want to know) what the complex plane is but at least I know it's called te Argand diagram.

...
it's where you represent the complex number a+bi by the point (a,b)

2:13 AM
It's how smart people graph their imaginary numbers
:P

@leaky I know you're going off to uni to study meths, but I'm still in high school. I understand a lot of high level maths, but it's 3am and my brain doesn't work right now.

@cairdcoinheringaahing I didn't mean it that way

if by high-level maths you mean understanding math when you're high, yes I do high-level maths :P

@Downgoat well, I did mention meth :P

:|

2:16 AM
@Downgoat that might explain why you thought abs(sqrt(x)) == abs(x)

:| I said that is not true

Right, I should go back to poorly designing my website

Web design is kind of fun when it's not being terrible.

And I don't get high, especially not at 3am in bed.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

2:19 AM
@ATaco I couldn't figure out how to run python in JavaScript/HTML so I'm transcribing my Python interpreters into JS. Not fun.

skulpt

@tot to you too

I haven't tried it yet
But I've heard it works
@ATaco wat are you doing

Haha, I have over 200 commits on the repo, and I' not even halfway done :D

I was trying to post a particularly spoopy emoticon, however, our font makes it impossible.

2:20 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing ... you know there is plugin that let you use python in browser
brython.info is one I think @quartata uses

$°º°$
Mission accomplished.

Skulpt is the other oen
@ATaco what does this mean?

@Downgoat there probably is, but it's fun learning a new language which isn't designed for golfing

:O you should use babel then
and react

@Downgoat It's a shocked face.

2:22 AM
react is pretty great

Nah, Re-invent the wheel repeatedly.

For natural languages?
isnt babel that language app?

No
Babel is JS implementation

Downgoat and ATaco right now: *facepalm*

@cairdcoinheringaahing babel lets you use react and npm (node.js modules) etc. and import/export

2:24 AM
My JSD format is based.

@Downgoat I do like the react videos on YouTube

>_< that took me too long to get

How long can I do this before he goes crazy?

2:26 AM
who is he

@Downgoat he is a male pronoun.

who =/= what

and you.
ok, I'll stop now. 'Twas fun while it lasted.

> Use for loops
Don't tell me what to do

@tot it's a misspelling. It's supposed to mean use 4 loops. Much more difficult

2:30 AM
What if I have a function which uses for loops and use that instead?

@cairdcoinheringaahing don't tell me what to do

RProgN2, 4 bytes. `\n.*
(Although that doesn't actually use for loops)
(Because * is implemented in a gr8 way)
x=²xp* works for 6 bytes though.

2:46 AM
@Downgoat why should I accept your answer? U gave no upvote

omy sorry brb fixing

Hey idk bash at all. But I need a short script to run in command line. Can I get some help?
(I have a large amount of test cases to run and don't want to hand run them)
@Downgoat you know bash?

decent amount
actually bash was my first introduction to programming

Ohh yay!
 ./fc-solve board_file.txt | tail -n 1 | grep "[[:digit:]][[:digit:]]*" > num.txt

ok

2:51 AM
I need to be able to cut the first line (yes cut) out of a file specified (or hardcoded doesn't matter) and replace board_file.txt with that cut text and a newline. Then it must run the codez and take the value outputted and save it with a newline to num.txt (EX 255\n)
@Downgoat I know it is a lot but I have 32k test cases to run and this would make me happy
Plus I would give you credit in my answer

@2EZ4RTZ grep "[[:digit:]]+" > num.txt pls

@ASCII-only kk

@2EZ4RTZ like as in D: so ungolfy

I didn't write it XD

@2EZ4RTZ so run for each line?

2:54 AM
@ASCII-only Yeah

@2EZ4RTZ echo "$(echo "$(head -n 1 \$1)" | tee board_file.txt | ./run_from_stdin)" > num.txt
is that what you mean :|

Idk

btw remove \ in \$1

I don't think so.
(that is what i mean)
Let me put it in better eords

while read p; do
echo $p
done <peptides.txt

2:57 AM
For each line in file A:
Cut a line from file A,
Replace the line in board_file.txt with that cut line,
Run the program,
Save the output of the program on the end of num.txt

Echo output instead and they should be it
Also redirect output to file

You realize I know no bash
At all
100% none

while read p; do

./fc-solve board_file.txt

And grep and stuff

2:59 AM
@ASCII-only I need it to be line by line.
