@AlexA. All Five Airplanes Inadvertently Crashed Together

@Geobits until I fix the bug, yeah

oh god

@Lembik Answer it yourself if you can.

Always with the plane crashes

@flawr That's very flawr of you. +1

9:00 PM
@flawr Jeez.

@mbomb007 well there is an answer in the question (and first comment). It just isn't any good :)

Anonymous
Oh man Geobits and Alex are here. Troll overload. Trollverload.

@Geobits thank you <3

@Mego Well, it's better now that Your Mom has left.

@mbomb007 if no one answers by the end of the challenge I will either ask SO or double the bounty.. which do you think is best?

9:01 PM
@AlexA. It is my profound duty and honour.

Apparate For An Important Cause Today!

@mbomb007 the question is in much better shape than it was when the bounty started :)

@Lembik idk. the rep gets lost if nobody answers.

Ah Fuck, Another Inappropriate Chat Transcript
7

@flawr I was in the air force for ten years and I've seen more plane crashes in here than during that whole time.
12

9:03 PM
@mbomb007 oh you keep the rep if you answer yourself??

@Lembik its impossible to recover rep

@NathanMerrill I thought as much

@Geobits Presumably the Air Force is the place where you'd see the fewest plane crashes, assuming they're teaching their pilots well

@Geobits Really? What country? And what function did you have in there?

@AlexA. Oh, I meant training videos and safety briefings and such included.

Anonymous
9:04 PM
@Lembik If you award the bounty to yourself, you get the bounty rep back, minus the part that gets lost to post the bounty

@flawr US. Avionics install/repair.

Ice cream is the only thing keeping me going through these hot days. It's like 100 degrees here.

Good morning, all

@Geobits Woah, thats cool, so what planes did you work on?

@Geobits Hah, if they showed too many crashes in safety videos, I think there'd be a big abandonment problem in the Air Force.

9:05 PM
@Quill good afternoon

@flawr Mostly cargo planes. C-130s more than anything.

@Mego Fahrenheit or Celsius

@AlexA. Kelvin.

@Quill good night (it's 23:00 currently)

Ice cream is probably pretty warm in comparison to 100 K.

9:06 PM
@AlexA. We saw some terrible things, but the worst was a black box audio recording of a ground incident where a tech died :/

@Geobits These are beautiful beasts, did you like your job?

@Geobits ...oh :(

Anonymous
@AlexA. Like flawr said, Kelvin. I'm a penguin, remember?

@flawr Yeah, it was a good job. I got out for personal reasons, not because I didn't like it overall.

@Mego i thought you said you weren't an arctic penguin?
Jun 23 at 19:27, by Mego
@Upgoat Many penguins are antarctic. Not all of them.

9:08 PM
@Mego The hot weather is really messing with my egg-hatching. It's much more bearable at night.

Aw, is Minibits going to have a little brother or sister?

Nah, he has eggs of his own.

I just noticed an ad on math.se for the OEIS, anyone else think we should have a similar one?

s/add/ad/

@FryAmTheEggman i dont think so because most people here A) know about OEIS B) won't be that interested as it's not very relevant to code-golf on its own
but if you want to post one sure and let the community vote

9:09 PM
I think so

Anonymous
@Downgoat I think you are quite confused. I am an antarctic penguin. There are no penguins in the arctic.

@FryAmTheEggman Perhaps. You could always put a proposal on the meta post and see how it does

I'd pick a better sequence

Dennis numbers

@Mego wait, so does your cat get cold or not?
Jun 23 at 19:25, by Upgoat
@Mego can penguins own cats? Won't the cat get cold in the igloo?

9:10 PM
Sure, I don't have time right now, but I'll try to do it soon

@Downgoat igloos keep heat, so it's not very cold in igloos

IIRC El'endia submitted it as an OEIS sequence and it was accepted.

Anonymous
@Downgoat No, she has lots of fur to keep her warm

Yeah it is, lemme find it...

@AlexA. I didn't submit Dennis numbers though.

9:11 PM
@Mego ohk

I have submitted two other unrelated sequences.

@El'endiaStarman Oh you didn't? What did you submit then?

@AlexA. The one from Electrons Bouncing in a Wire and...um...

Oh that's right, it was GamrCorps that submitted Dennis numbers

@ArtOfCode Submitted my question, I hope to get answers soon!

9:16 PM
oooh, here's an interesting sequence
feels like a really good code golf challenge

4.86 clicks per day on the sandbox ad, not bad

a(1)=1, and if x is in a then 2x+1 and 3x-1

@NathanMerrill What is interesting about it?

Wasn't that random brainfuck IDE getting the most clicks? :P

I think we've seen one or the other quite similar sequences.

Q: Consecutive identical digits of pi

mbomb007Your goal is to output the strictly increasing sequence of consecutive, identical digits of pi (π). So 3 (0th digit of pi) is the first time a run of digits occurs (length 1). The next to occur is 33 (digits 24 and 25 of pi). The ones I've found so far, and they all occur within the first 800 di...

@flawr I can't seem to find any
also, did chat just die for any of you?

@NathanMerrill I did get the "connection died" banner.

I was kicked off for a good 5 minutes

me too

Same

9:25 PM
chat.stackexchange was borked for 5 min

Must've happened when I wasn't really paying attention.

@FryAmTheEggman It's only been up for about a day, probably just got a lot of clicks when it was first posted
TIO is getting a lot of clicks.
Most users know about the sandbox so I'm not surprised it's not getting as many but it's good to see that it's getting some. That's 4 or 5 users whose posts won't be closed today ;P

@quartata I've been clicking it whenever I see it, to give it more clicks.

@mbomb007 Aggressively helpful

@flawr anyways, its similar to the collatz conjecture (which is basically of the same format, but the conjecture is that every number is in the sequence)

9:27 PM
@quartata If not, I normally just type the start of the URL, then go.

@NathanMerrill Why did you ping me lol? Anyways yeah I noticed it looks pretty interesting

I type r, and retina.tryitonline shows up

my bad
you must have been chatting when I was trying to message flawr

Oh it's fine I don't care

hey, do SSDs still have a skip time?
aka, if I wanted to read block 1,5,9,13, ect, would that be slower than 1,2,3,4...?

since SSD use flash memory, i think there is no skip time

if that is true, then aren't Column-based databases going obsolete?

except for the fact that SSDs are still pricey and will be for some time I suspect. It wouldn't be cost effective to outfit a database server cluster with ssds I wouldn't think
especially considering you'd need big ones

hence "going"
but yeah

9:43 PM
Oh, well sure
But it'll probably take longer than you might think

@quartata am now gettign 60 - 80 fps :D

I still blame Windows

I'm getting 300-400 without an FPS cap and we have almost identical computers

I may have a virus tho

9:44 PM
Have you run stinger or whatever the cool kids use now

but then again that's window's fault

NewSandboxedPost dont have posted my sandboxed challenge

@quartata eh? I am not a cool kid what is that

@TùxCräftîñg It's very slow

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ McAfee Stinger? That's what I remember people using for quick scans on XP computers

You can just dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/your-windows-device that virus right off

My experience with McAfee Antivirus on the family computer many years ago lead me to believe - to this day - that it's basically a virus too. It has all the negative benefits besides unauthorized duplication/installation on other systems.

I've found ClamAV to be a very useful tool

The best tool though is not going to shady websites without noscript, adblock, and ghostery

@El'endiaStarman Yeah, but it gets rid of viruses. Would you rather have 1 permanent virus, or 0 to 50 random viruses?

I generally just use adblock, but my shady_sites_visited counter isn't as high as it could be.

my shady_sites_visited is so big than it's overflow on the 64th bit T_T

oooh, it'd be cool if there was some exponential integer data type

@TùxCräftîñg That's impressive, given that there are only 2**32-1 IPv4 addresses

aka, you lose precision with large integers

;_;
but there is ipv6 now

IPv6 is still embarassingly underadopted

^^^, Linux doesn't want to support it still

I highly doubt any website would be IPv6-only right now, given how bad IPv6 support is

Anonymous
Which means they're still bound by the IPv4 limit

its crazy how slow-moving communication protocols are
I mean, it makes sense

Anonymous
On the other hand, deep web sites don't suffer from that limitation (since they use custom protocols), and they would all contribute to the shady site counter

@flawr watched for the first time a couple months ago. Was in between on whether I liked it

@flawr no it came out in 2011 /s

@flawr Mission Impossible was already 30 years old when Mission Impossible came out :/

I'm waiting for Mission Improbable, where they're slightly more confident in their abilities

@Mego That was already the fourth in the series

@Geobits ...I had no idea it was a TV series first.

where would I ask a question about tf2 scripting--gaming, or stackoverflow?

@TùxCräftîñg Sure thing. Take a heaping spoonful of patience.

You posted it ~30 minutes ago. Most people look at the sandbox about once per day, if that much (or at all). It's unreasonable to expect a lot of feedback so soon. Most challenges sit in the sandbox for a few days.

since the number of views on your-mom repo is multiplied by 2 each day, tomorrow your-mom should have ~1000 views

Hey, can one of you guys explain why my code is throwing an infinite loop on the True case (o[1][0] == true)?
From all my work it appears to be evaluating both the second and third expressions in the last ternary statement (both incrementing and decrementing y) and I think im crazy but i cant find any other explanation. Whats weird is if i remove the y++ then it doesnt loop.

Tfw no tf2 tag and not enough rep to make it. ;_;

10:30 PM
^, ^^
who here has lotsa rep on SO and will make tf2 tag?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ok

I just freshened up my profile... it's funny now

10:37 PM
So if anyone was wondering, for some reason the comma operator caused it to compute both sides and i dont know why

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ it's not really a tf2 issue, more a valve console / source console issue

close enough

not really

did my name change, or has the cache not expired yet?

tf2 scripting apx valve

10:38 PM
@El'endiaStarman Some of those are real, you know

@uoɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Oh, I knew that.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ What's your question?

1
Q: Escaping double quotes in TF2 scripting

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'BʀɪᴇɴIn TF2 scripting, there is a simple command, echo. This simply logs a message to the console. It can be used with or without double quotes. However, I want to be able to log something to the console involving double quotes--say, the string He said, "nope.". In conventional programming, one would ...

Forget the outer quotes, no need for backslashes

then the inner quotes don't appear
] echo He said, "nope."
He said, nope.

10:40 PM
That shouldn't be right one second
Ah, right. I remember now
> Note: It is not possible to print out the " character, as its meaning will be misinterpreted. However, you can print single quotes: that is, the ' character.

make it an answer then as I cry

In fact double quotes are turned into single quotes when you type them in chat anyways

but not in console methinks

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ change the tf2 tag to
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ The question really has nothing to do with tf2 which is why I don't think the tag belongs
