@AlexA. Oh. I just voted for Python because of bias. For KotH, I'm not sure what is best, but it seems to me that Python classes aren't horrific so writing up a Bot class shouldn't suck too much

@AlexA. Number Theory Library but it also has linear algebra stuff it looks like

Sorry, typing on my phone

@Sherlock9 That's what I was thinking too
And at least a basic understand of Python seems to be ubiquitous around here

Similar thinking from me about Ruby. Though I'm not sure about ubiquity here. Ruby is similar in complexity to Python but definitely a different paradigm, for the most part
@Quill welp.

I'm rather a serious boy!
an MO mod should probably be told about that whole room situation... there was a flag in there a few minutes ago as well

I'll track one down

I don't think the other guy even knows about the room
Never got pinged so

don't you get a notification when that happens anyway?

oh I didn't read the transcript

@AlexA. Thanks, I don't know which room is even theirs...

12:12 AM
@quartata He's spoken in there
@Quill Nor do I

 MathOverflow

General discussion for mathoverflow.net

working on it though

Nearly frozen, there's another room on their network titled Homotopy Therapy which seems to be a specific topic (but it has people in it)

Hm

@quartata Done. Thanks for the idea!
Now it's | instead of Zn, so one byte less. With the other change I intend to do (in a few days), that $2will become a single character too (probably &, to indicate "one more input"), so another byte off

12:15 AM
@Quill The MO mods' names don't autocomplete in any of the mod or MO rooms AFAICT

Hmm

@AlexA. Doesn't even autocomplete in the site mod room? Wow.

I can't get into their mod site room
I mean general mod and general site rooms

Did you try math se chat?

Math.se != MO.se

12:19 AM
i know.

in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, 3 mins ago, by Quill
Looks like this room's turning a bit volatile
Hopefully that should get some more eyes diamonds on it

I notified one of the MO mods

@Quill oh goodness, I said therapy instead of theory

@Quill i definitely needed some therapy after trying to understand homotopy theory a while back

12:24 AM
@EasterlyIrk I heard you needed me for something related to anime?

@Maltysen I don't think your attention was required; I think he just added @ when saying your name in conversation.
I don't want to speak for Riker though. For all I know he could be in dire need of anime services.

oh. and here I was getting excited because I thought me watching anime would actually be useful

I got the ping too... I had the same impression ;-;

speaking of anime, @Quill what are you watching this season? I just started checking things out and re:zero and big order look pretty good

I'm not watching much, I did watch the first episode of Sakamoto desu ga and the second season of Gakusen Toshi Asterisk
I nearly wrote muching watch. It took me three goes to write it properly

For some reason every time I've been on LinkedIn today, everything has been in Spanish.
It couldn't have been a custom setting because I'm not logged in

Maybe you don't know enough Lojbanian

?

sorry, terrible joke

You might've viewed somebody's profile in Spanish (linkedin has a weird setting where they like to stick with a language for each session)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I thought an article wasn't needed after jamais

@quartata I got that. I just don't know enough Spanish for LinkedIn to help me speak it.

Actually "fluento" is a word invented by Alex :-)
Apr 6 at 22:44, by Alex A.
I thought I was muy fluento

XD
I forgot about that

Haha. How could you

12:43 AM
@LuisMendo isn't it actually "fluido"

quick question: is there a better control structure (e.g. while loop) than this?
for(var j = moveBuffer.length; j >= 0; --j){
	var anyTrigger = triggers.some(function(e){
		return SAT.testPolygonCircle(e, player.entity);
	});
	if(anyTrigger) continue;

As Luis can attest, I know little to no Spanish.

@AlexA. But you try anyway, which is always nice, and funny :-)

@LuisMendo I know I was playing along with the joke

@Maltysen Yup

@quartata Yeah. I just wanted to give credit :-D

@Downgoat look for a position that does not interact with the thingy

hehe

uh

12:46 AM
you could do a while loop, but you'd still need a j-like variable. it's a finite loop anyway, so while loops are pretty overkill

Does anyone who knows gravity have any idea how to fix this:
grav * (dx / Math.sqrt(dist))
but if I do that, and gravity is small that would be high which isn't good
oh wait, nvm

$g * \frac{dx}{\sqrt{d}}$
yay for mathjax

1:02 AM
@Quill uh
@Quill that is what I have already, it doesn't fix it D:

@AlexA. nope.

Just letting you know that your name was used, @Maltysen.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ HAI
can't stay, cleaning out my files and preparing to reinstall os x one more time.

@Downgoat what is the problem? what is that expression supposed to eval to

@Maltysen I am trying to calculate the delta-v between a moon and a planet

1:08 AM
Use mathematica, delta-v(moon,planet).

because the moon is extremely close it accelerates the planet so much, it flies off into intersteallar space

@Downgoat link to SSS again?

@Downgoat still doesn't matter, mathematica + jQuery is great and does all things.

add a planet. click on the planet in the list, click add moon, click add moon. see that it doesn't work
@EasterlyIrk mathematica isn't available for JavaScript

1:09 AM
@Downgoat like the velocity needed to propel that moon away from the planet?

I am trying to calculate the gravitaitonal acceleration for the x and y axises\

ohhhh
universal law?

@Maltysen ?

1:10 AM
@Downgoat mass of planet * G / dist^2

here's my code:

also, after making a moon the planet disappears.

let dx = planet.x - p2.x;
let dy = planet.y - p2.y;
let dist = Math.pow(dx, 2) + Math.pow(dy, 2);

let grav = 10 * f * p2.mass / dist;

planet.velocityX += grav * (dx / Math.sqrt(dist));
planet.velocityY += grav * (dy / Math.sqrt(dist));

yeah not math.sqrt

and after creating a moon and deleting it you can't create any more moons of the same name

1:11 AM
@HelkaHomba Your new house looks really nice

@Maltysen no, it's supposed to be math.sqrt

@Downgoat ^^
@AlexA. in mc or rl?

its squared

Haha Minecraft

@Maltysen no

1:12 AM
and that's the accleration
@Downgoat why?

@AlexA. rofl

@Åna Your name autocompletes so I thought I'd say hello. Have you been persuaded to golf yet?

@Maltysen I thought that too, but read from here

@Downgoat wait why are you calculating the velocity?

@Maltysen so I can move the planet

1:13 AM
@Maltysen gotta go fast

you should be calculating the acceleration

$$\Delta{v} = \int^{t_1}_{t_0} \frac{|T|}{m}\, dt$$

are you coding this on a iPad again?

@EasterlyIrk ?

1 min ago, by Easterly Irk
are you coding this on a iPad again?

what makes you think that?

@Downgoat what you need to do is have G * dx/dist

Because you have done that in the past and I am not sure that is a optimal enviroment for coding.

also pleeeeeeeeease don''t call it dx

1:16 AM
@Maltysen that won't work
or fix the problemm

why?

@Maltysen why not?

because you need to have screaming snake case: D_X
Or jus XD

@Maltysen the problem is here:
let grav = 10 * f * p2.mass / dist;

isnt this js? why is there let?

1:17 AM
the dist is very small so the gravity is messed up

@HelkaHomba okai
This is magic. Half the files on my computer got corrupted, but only the code I have on github or code I posted to review on CR died.
@Quill thank you for telling me to post to CR.

<3 any time

CR is nice, but take everything with a grain of salt

D:
CR helps with all but golf.
And the code I posted there wasn't supposed to be golfed.

You didn't get much attention on that Interpreter, did you?

1:35 AM
All this CR talk is making me wonder is s are on-topic?

@Quill nope
only a review that had stuff I was already working on fixing, and a criticism of my language.
It was a fine review, just not very helpful, sorry.
@Downgoat no. Q_Q

I might take a look at it later on or see if one of the other python reviewers wants to take a crack at it

@Downgoat genius!

Though temporarily existed on CR.
:P

@Quill give all the code reviewers a ಠ_ಠ from me for removing the code-golf tag.

Q: Fuzzy Octo Guacamole interpreter

Easterly IrkThis is my code that interprets my own golfing and esoteric language, Fuzzy-Octo-Guacamole. It has 2 stacks to store information in, and various operations can be performed on each stack, or both at once. This is also my first real project using classes, so any advice on how I did would be much...

@aditsu hai
woah lag
@Quill I saw the bounty. Thanks.
You don't python yourself?

does anybody recognize what language this is written in?

@aditsu might be pyth

@EasterlyIrk I was just pasting it here for even more attention ;)

Man, I need to start bringing my kid to the card shop more often. People literally just hand him free stuff, and he's got the best luck with these damn boosters.

I mean the celestial body kinda moon

1:47 AM
are you sure?

Right. I'm teaching you how to make one.

My moon works, but it doesn't exactly orbit the planet :P

heh, once I find out, I should post it here :p

youtube gives more hits for the pants one

@Geobits that is a little bit of a problem

1:48 AM
so that one must be right
@Downgoat yeah......:p

@Downgoat Oh. You said it dies. I thought you meant it crashed out or disappeared or something.
My moon seems pretty happy sharing an orbit with the planet ;)

I don't know how to add a moon to a moving planet because I also have to account for the orbital velocity of the earth

I assume that wouldn't be as simple as simply adding the planet's velocity to the initial delta V for the moon?

@Geobits but that doesn't work

@Downgoat instead of calculating the earth's position, calculate the position of the earth-moon system with respect to the sun and use the two-body problem solution from the center of the system

1:50 AM
> The two-body problem is a dilemma for life partners in academia, relating to the difficulty of both spouses obtaining jobs at the same university or within a ...
I don't think that's the right two-body problem

No, that's the right one.

Is that some sort of gravity pun >_>

@quartata why shouldn't you trust an atom

just look at bra and ket

1:51 AM
@quartata hahahaha

@Downgoat you don't even need the two body solution actually, since you're using discrete time steps

@Maltysen yeah, so how do I moon
can you just right me some code to do it?

@quartata Yep. They're really bohring

1:53 AM
huh, it's not just S prefix, it's S…\ for strings

@Downgoat just replace your earth with an invisible center, and repeat your equations for the earth with those for the moon with respect to the center
are you assuming moon's gravity as negligible on earth?

@HelkaHomba ba dum tss

@Downgoat try make moon orbit

@Maltysen it isn't

not just "moon"

1:53 AM
@Maltysen I'd vote for a creamy center

I don't know why
@HelkaHomba ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@Downgoat its not, but it makes it easier if you assume earth fixed

but then how would I account for the moon being affected by the Sun's gravity?

@Downgoat ಠ_ಠ

@Downgoat so yeah, just replace the earth with an invisible center, and calculate pull of earth on moon and pull of moon in earth with that center as origin

1:54 AM
@AlexA. Thanks, you should visit more

serious ಠ_ಠ

@EasterlyIrk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Downgoat Will the sun be pulling the moon way more than the planet? It wouldn't be in reality

@HelkaHomba yahh, my grabityh is weird

1:55 AM
indeed

@HelkaHomba That's the way it seems to be working now. The moons I add orbit exactly like planets.

@Downgoat try looking through here:github.com/mgvez/jsorrery

Huh. I added a big moon and it skyrocketed my planet out of the system :(

@EasterlyIrk Not like this they don't. Straight line, like it was hit by a cue ball.
I don't mean it slingshotted it. I mean it looked like it bounced right off and left.
