5:04 PM
i discovered the perfect use for my twitter account

Ahhh. That satisfying moment when you ask if anyone wants to go with you to lunch and more than one person says yes.

eevee?
@Rainbolt why wouldn't anyone say yes? people dont like you generally?

@Optimizer eevee but all grown up. specifically eevee but all grown up in the cold

I work with a bunch of programmers. We all pretty much keep to ourselves.
2

well, that's the first time I am hearing that
we have a really good relation going on here
with managers, peers, etc

5:13 PM
We get along just fine. We're all friendly
It just seems like none of us ever reach out. I typically listen to Howard Stern while I eat lunch in my car. I find it relaxing to get away from people for an hour in the middle of the day and listen to dumb jokes.
Friendly doesn't necessarily translate to outgoing I guess

oh

5:17 PM
Oh, I didn't know you actually wanted to know or I would have said it.

@Rainbolt i wonder if that is the general case there..

Haha. I took a bug yesterday, left *extremely* detailed notes about what I tried and failed to do and how I concluded that it was just not worth fixing, then today this happened:
8:15 AM - Bob assigned bug 123 to Bob
9:15 AM - Bob cleared assigned to field of bug 123
10:00 AM - Joe assigned bug 123 to Joe
10:30 AM Joe cleared assigned to field of bug 123

No graduation news?

i'm not sure if i'm parsing that correctly: both bob and joe were like "pfft, not worth fixing? i can do it" and proceeded to give up?

You got it exactly

5:20 PM
nice

@Calvin'sHobbies Yes :P

@Geobits the 21st of november is closer than i thought

Idea for my campaign slogan: PhiNotPi - the rational choice™

@Geobits oh shush :P
@PhiNotPi har har

i want to write something that other people would want to quote, and intentionally make a typo
and then immediately after it write "[sic]"
because then people will want to write "[sic]" after the typo, but it's already there

5:23 PM
The best anti-Adblock reaction I've seen from a website is rendering all text in Comic Sans if the adblocker is enabled.

@MartinBüttner Morning

i wrote a program to write my ppcg posts for me

Your program is a little more advanced than Geobits's program

it takes out all unnecessary characters from the code, counts those bytes, and makes a header with the language name, link to the esolangs page and bytecount

His program is still lea_UNKrning

Q: Are incorrect, but impossibly to show incorrect answers allowed?

orlpThe main motivation for my question is hash functions. Let's take an example challenge (although here's a real challenge): Print 42 if the input is "the answer to life the universe and everything", 0 otherwise. You might program this like this in Python 2: print(42if raw_input()=="the answ...

@undergroundmonorail y u no accept friend request
@NewMetaPosts Hmm, I'm surprised we haven't had this before...

i do most of my game launching from right clicking the taskbar icon, i didn't see the green thing :P

Does anyone know which meta post contains the policy for what qualifies as a "non-competing" answer (being in a language created after the challenge)
I can literally never find anything I'm looking for on the meta

147
A: Loopholes that are forbidden by default

Ilmari KaronenUsing a made-up language specifically designed for the challenge This includes any language with commands that "do whatever I choose them to do". Claiming that your answer is written in "MyOwnLanguage", where the command x means "read a sequence of numbers, split them into groups of three, and ...

Is that it?

5:37 PM
6
A: Can I ever answer with a language invented after the challenge was posted?

OptimizerYes and No These answers can still be posted but should not be considered as a candidate for the accepted answer. But if a language is specifically designed to have a clear advantage for the question, it should not be considered as an answer and should be deleted/closed. This case would ideally...

Yea, the one posted by undergroundmonorail provides much more detail

i was looking for the one you posted and stumbled across that one instead :P

@Rainbolt yeah that was it.

Is taking input through ans or equivalent allowed by default?

Well the thing is that someone is using "non-competing" as an excuse to not follow the spec
so the "loopholes" one is what I was looking for.

5:39 PM
I just want to point out that I only found it because I knew where to look. If it hadn't been in a giant list question on meta then others would have been able to find it (probably)

I should have remembered that it was in the standard loopholes. I knew it was in a post with a title that didn't have anything to do with non-competing answers.

i can never remember what the standard loopholes question was renamed to
i saw in 3 minutes ago and i've already forgotten again

> "I knew it was in a post with a title that didn't have anything to do with non-competing answers."

oh it's right here in this chat, i can just look up haha

If that isn't reason enough to stop making big lists on meta, what is?
I need to go eat lunch and stop campaigning against list questions.

5:43 PM
have fun with your coworkers :)

/me makes a list of list questions

We could probably solve the problem if we had a list to put all the list names in
^

@TimmyD You're going backwards! :*-(

@Rainbolt Don't stop for good, though. If you did I'd think you were an imposter or something.

@Geobits Do you always talk to your own socks to make it look like they aren't really you?
Yes, yes I do.
Whoops wrong machine

5:44 PM
people make fun of me when i say "machine" to refer to a computer

@Calvin'sHobbies Evening.

I don't always talk to my own socks, but when I do, I don't make silly mistakes.

That's your own fault.

what is katy perry doing in your head
free her

If you had Katy Perry in your head would you free her?

Better yet, keep her trapped.
:( ninja'd

Probably ... I imagine I'd have a splitting headache if she were in there.

5:47 PM
You've gotta take one for the team here. What's one man's suffering compared to the pain she would inflict upon the world?

Katy Perry has been released into the wild.
Whoops, I let her go

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

@Geobits plug in her songs to Geobots Marky Markov.

Why would you wish that evil upon him? He never hurt anybody (yet).

I'm still trying to decipher "learn an hm"

Pokemon!

Holy crap, why is your bot's name not Geobots...

5:49 PM
Oooooh

I know.
@Geobits He did ping me, but my profile says too, so hm....

if you went to somewhere you have to surf to and then released all your pokemon that can know surf (and couldn't catch any more) you would be stuck, so if a pokemon can learn an hm and none of your others can, you can try to release it but it will come back

@TimmyD I'm following through on something I said some time ago. The name is not necessarily permanent.

GEOBOTS FTW
Ooh, how about Minibots?

How about "Anonymous user"?

5:51 PM

@Geobits October 16th? That was practically a separate epoch in Internet Time.

How about "Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'Bʀɪᴇɴ"?
@TimmyD A Geobits never forgets.

How about Captain Obvious?

a geobits is never late, it arrives exactly when it means to

@Doorknob Well, of course. It's all based on the Kabala, after all.
> You are deep, philosophical, and refined, but your extremely sensitive nature causes you to become depressed over any real or imagined slight.

5:56 PM
@Geobits wat, it says that you upvote a lot?

Yes, I'm clearly very sensitive >_>

@Geobits the what?

@Geobits YOU HAVE NO LIFE
Are you crying yet?
@Doorknob Kabala.

it's actually fairly accurate for me but most of it would be accurate for a lot of people i think

@Doorknob Fancy Hebrew mysticism basically.

5:57 PM
Kabbalah (Hebrew: קַבָּלָה‎, literally "receiving/tradition") is an esoteric method, discipline, and school of thought that originated in Judaism. A traditional Kabbalist in Judaism is called a Mekubbal (Hebrew: מְקוּבָּל‎). Kabbalah's definition varies according to the tradition and aims of those following it, from its religious origin as an integral part of Judaism, to its later Christian, New Age, and Occultist syncretic adaptations. Kabbalah is a set of esoteric teachings meant to explain the relationship between an unchanging, eternal, and mysterious Ein Sof (infinity) and the mortal and finite...
> esoteric

I guess you could base KabalaLang around walking the nodes on the tree of life or something.

Q: Can I post a challenge based on an existing board game?

sanchisesI want to post a king-of-the-hill challenge based on an existing board game. Unlike most digital content, the manual of the game mentions nothing other than a simple "© yyyy, all rights reserved". In this case, would creating a controller for this game and posting the challenge be considered fair...

@MartinBüttner They look correct to me.

phew :)

The picture is a good find too.

anything else I could improve/you would have done differently?

6:51 PM
Well, a picture of the spaceship with the xyz axes would be helpful.
But it may be hard to find one.

I could related xyz to the pitch-yaw-roll axes in that diagram

@Zgarb I think it means we're wrong.

How about Is Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'Bʀɪᴇɴ wrong?

I'd hate to subject him to smallcaps, to be honest :P

You need to tell him about smallcaps, before someone else does.
Have the sc talk now.

Ok, I did.... for some reason he likes you too. He said "No".

Probably can't handle the unicode

@Geobits :D
So Calvin and I are not wrong.

I just noticed geobots is actually making sense now.... Like he gives answers that make sense, even if they may be wrong.

They seem right to me... :)

He passed the 40k step mark earlier, so that's good. I'm going to keep it going and just add an ability to update to the latest checkpoint on command.

The same amount as me, probably.

@Geobits okay.
@Geobits soo 4, not counting sockpuppets?

Calvin's Hobbies are Legion, for they are many.

I have but one sock account, and it's for the bot. You wouldn't deprive little Marky of his account, would you?

I have maximized platy's use of symbols!

@Zgarb @MartinBüttner The only thing this picture makes me wonder is whether there's a way of making it immediately obvious which direction the rotations are measured in. x is clearly anticlockwise from the current view direction. It looks like y and z are too, but I wonder if it would be of benefit to leave small gaps where the axes and curves go behind each other just to reinforce this.

@trichoplax To be honest, I forgot to think which way the circles should go.

7:34 PM
lol

@trichoplax Edit the images. Dashed lines for behind the axis.

|(:( ~+! fibonacci

The circles always go anticlockwise (aka increasing angle from the positive whatever axis)

@Zgarb It's clear if you think about it, but it's one of those diagrams that looks correct either way if you don't think about it, so if someone just happens to see one of them clockwise first, that interpretation may stick.
It's not essential but if it's an easy change to make it just adds a little extra clarity.
