6:00 AM
Ok, so I didn't know it existed.

Oh, you didn't?

@AlexA. Really. Now I even found the shortcut on the right side.

Just replace all the occurrences of function and instanceof with something out of band, put it all in a string inside of a replacement, and put it all inside an eval. instant tiny javascript.

Try it online! now has debugging: cjam.tryitonline.net/#code=eA==&input=&debug=on

@RetoKoradi :D It's a magical world of opportunity at your doorstep!
@Dennis :DDDD this is bananas!

6:02 AM
tryitonline.net eh. how to get such an awesome domain name

@Dennis Sweet!
@quintopia Be the first or willing to pay the current holder. :P

yeahyeah...but which was it in this case?

The first
I think

Which could probably be summarized as "Be first or be rich."

lel

6:03 AM
like so much of life

Yeah, I don't think Dennis is rich. :P (No offense...)

@quintopia I was pleasantly surprised it was still available.

@El'endiaStarman Actually Dennis is the wealthiest man in all the land.
But wealth is measured in lack of source code bytes.

@Dennis do you make it possible for anyone to host online interpreters there? :P

In the future. That would require adding some security measures to prevent abuse.

6:06 AM
@Dennis How does Debug work? It changes the color of the button when I click it, but I don't see anything else happening.

@RetoKoradi I might be confusing my math logic with my computer logic. a --> b will return b if a is true. What if a is false? Should it return 1 (math logic - it's vacuously true), or 0?

Unless you ran interference as middle man...which would be work, I guess

I don't know who made this but I love it

@Dennis what about setting up subdomains to redirect to interpreters people write and host themselves?

@El'endiaStarman I believe a --> b is equivalent to (not a) or b

6:07 AM
@RetoKoradi It's a toggle. It affects whether the interpreter prints STDERR or not. Try clicking Run with and without debugging.

@RetoKoradi I can do that!

@quintopia That's certainly doable.

👍

@AlexA. Ticket reported!

White box?

6:09 AM
@Dennis Emoji thumbs up
@phase 👍

OIC

@AlexA. I can no see it
@Dennis IDONTC, ID

It's an emoji thumbs up.

its unicode
U+1F44D

Yeah. Seriously guys, Unicode up yer browsrs.

6:10 AM
@Dennis Oh, I see. It only suppresses stderr. I thought it might be fancy single stepping or something.

Windows XP probably doesn't have the best support for emoticons made 10 years after it.

You're running Windows XP?
ಠ_ಠ

what Alex said

32bit Windows XP is my life dude

Oh jesus, and it's 32-bit XP?
Throw out your computer and get an actual one

6:12 AM
@RetoKoradi Debug may not be the best name. I'm planning to add a verbosity flag later, but that would have to be handled on a per-interpreter basis. For now, there's cjam.tryitonline.net, hexagony.tryitonline.net, retina.tryitonline.net, and shapescript.tryitonline.net.

@Dennis Can I please design something better than whatever you call that webpage

@Dennis The CJam link in the title does not work for me. Is this basically the same online interpreter that aditsu uses, just hosted differently? Or is it a different interpreter?

@phase are you good at CSS

I'm good at Bootstrap and jQuery, which is pretty much modern web design.

until you abandon XP and get more bits

6:15 AM
:D

@RetoKoradi No, this is a server-side interpreter with a frontend. Speed comparison: goo.gl/9m93HF goo.gl/zpU2TJ
What happens if you click the link?
@phase I'm open to suggestions. I suck at this.

@phase I'll gladly let you bootstrap my page. esolang.rutteric.com/select.html It's not responsive at all.

@Dennis 404 error, page not found

@quintopia wtf dog with mustache

So I can bring your server to its knees with my endless loops?
2

6:17 AM
hahaha

@AlexA. ❤

@Dennis Wow, the tryitonline is so much faster.
@RetoKoradi You actually can't do that to mine. :D

@RetoKoradi For now, there's a 60 second timeout. I'll have to add better security measures later.

@El'endiaStarman That was for Dennis. Alex ninjad me by typing a message in between.

@quintopia holy crap that made me laugh my ass off

6:19 AM
@RetoKoradi I know. I'm just saying that mine is hardened against infinite loops. :D
Like @Dennis, your code has a minute to run before it stops.

@Dennis The first one crashed my 2 and a half bit browser

@phase I mainly just need the dog to be small and out of the way on mobile/narrow browsers

@RetoKoradi Not sure how that's possible. It works just fine for me. Does this direct link work for you? sourceforge.net/projects/cjam

@Dennis @quintopia Here's my site, not sure how good it is

@El'endiaStarman Could probably still start a DOS attack by submitting a lot of jobs at once? I believe these kinds of concerns were a main reason aditsu went with a client side approach.

6:21 AM
@RetoKoradi You could...

@phase It's really impressive except for your use of "code" as a verb. Though not strictly incorrect, especially in colloquial English, it's like sandpaper on my buns.

@Dennis That one works. But the link on the page shows up as cjam.tryitonline.net////sourceforge.net/projects/cjam for me.

But that sort of DDoS thing is something you can do against anyone. I think WebFaction (who's hosting the server) would have precautions against that.

@RetoKoradi that's a browser problem not supporting // links

@AlexA. What does a coder do if not code? :P

6:22 AM
@AlexA. What should I put instead to heal your wounds?

People who write code are programmers.

@phase Ok, I'll tell Microsoft. ;)

@phase change it to hack.

@RetoKoradi omg are you on IE?!?!

@phase Edge

6:23 AM
Edge is still slower than chrome

Edge doesn't support //.. URLs? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Not really sure why I'm using it. I don't have a good excuse.

Edge is just a tool Microsoft provides to download Chrome

Edge is a Microsoft product and simply by virtue of having been made by Microsoft it's a turd.
@phase Internet Explorer was the best browser for downloading a better browser, but now with Edge you can download a better browser twice as fast!

@RetoKoradi Because you like to...(•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) ...be on the Edge?

6:25 AM
@AlexA. Now that's a little simplistic, isn't it? And it's from Seattle, after all... Well, almost.

It's from Redmond, which is where I live. And I was mostly joking. I don't think all of their products are terrible, I just don't like most of them.

The one I hate with a passion is Word. Drives me crazy every time I have to use it.

What do you use instead? LibreOffice?

He uses Notepad++

Baller

6:28 AM
I actually have LibreOffice on my computer. I think MS Office is significantly better, but I can't afford it.

Well, I don't have much of a choice. A long time ago I used FrameMaker for complex documents. That was great. For simple documents, Pages on the Mac is fine. Very limited, but at least it makes sense.

I have MS Office for Mac which is 200000% worse than Office on Windows. Most of the time I use LibreOffice.

@RetoKoradi Could you try again?

Office for Mac is a joke.

I got a copy of Office installed to my personal machine by my work for free. It's not a bad word processor, as they go.

6:29 AM
@AlexA. This good?

@phase The hardcore solution was Latex, typed in vi.

Yeah, I use LyX too...

@phase Is it different?

@Dennis Link works now!

@AlexA. F12 that shizz nizz cause you're browser be cachin

6:30 AM
@AlexA. refresh it

@RetoKoradi I use LaTeX for all of my homework assignments (and have for years) but I use TeX Shop.

you've done homework assignments for years?

I use TexMaker for LaTeX.

isn't it time to be done with homework?

@RetoKoradi OK, that was actually my fault. I had one // in the conf file and another in the CGI script, so the whole link was ////sourceforge.net/projects/cjam/.

6:31 AM
oh yeah happy Thanksgiving break everyone!

@AlexA. At the time I used it, it was a pain to add images. For pure text, it was great. And for math formula, head and shoulders above anything else.

@Dennis well Chrome did fine with it :D

@quintopia I wish. Got a BS in math and now I'm getting a master's in applied statistics.

@RetoKoradi $\frac{mathjax + is}{awesome}$

@RetoKoradi \usepackage{graphicx} FTW

6:33 AM
Good night everyone!

@AlexA. Not the road I'd have taken, but enjoy!
night @Dennis

@Dennis G'night!

@Dennis o/

@Dennis Good night!
@quintopia Thanks. :P What's your chosen path?

TRIPLE PING!

6:34 AM
i got a MS in CS, and haven't really done anything with it :P

What do you do now?

after-school tutoring

That sounds like it could be fun.

I was going to say it sounds really boring, but each to his own.

it's easy, but doesn't pay great and the hours are lame

6:35 AM
How long since you got your MS?

well it doesn't distract me much from thinking about programming challenges :P
3 or 4 years I guess

^ about how long I've been programming

Thank you. :P And your website does look better.

lol

@AlexA. fenks <3

6:36 AM
<4

<5
I should set an avatar

Wow, I just debugged my Minkolang interpreter Python code by running a Minkolang program in the online interpreter because it reports any and all errors that crop up! :D

Nice!
@quintopia You should join the AAP (Animal Avatar Party).

<-- hedgehog! :D

@AlexA. I'll use the dog of course. it's traditional

6:38 AM
Excellent choice.

I'll be a banana

You're already a TV between channels or something though, right?

It's a test pattern.
You'll see it with projectors too.

done

A test card, also known as a test pattern, is a television test signal, typically broadcast at times when the transmitter is active but no programme is being broadcast (often at startup and closedown). Used since the earliest TV broadcasts, test cards were originally physical cards at which a television camera was pointed, and such cards are still often used for calibration, alignment, and matching of cameras and camcorders. Test patterns used for calibrating or troubleshooting the downstream signal path are these days generated by test signal generators, which do not depend on the correct ...

6:39 AM
Lo, there's another who needs to join the less-boring avatars party!

And if you can't decide if you want to join the AAP or the CAP, you use a cartoon animal!

@El'endiaStarman Your avatar is off the charts funky

@quintopia I still see the gravatar on your PPCG profile.

i think i have to leave and come back

6:40 AM
@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ

hmm that didn't work

@quintopia I think moderators might have a secret button to force the avatar to update immediately.

I tried it
Didn't do anything

I've tried it three times!

6:41 AM
hi

Hi

i just got reloaded like five times in a row

Bananas are terrifying as shit

it's showing next to the text box now at least

And it's changed on the main site too.

6:42 AM
Hooray

Eyy, got it!

Refreshed you again and now it shows for me

THANK GOD ALL THE REFRESHES WERE GETTING ANNOYING
now it shows up for you but not next to the text box :P

>_> sorry...

Want one more just for funsies?

6:43 AM
go

Oh god @Dennis what on earth is this CSS formatting?!?!?!

I actually did not know that the end user got reloaded when we refresh their chat profile.

Yes
@phase He uses tabs. :/

@AlexA. let's execute him now

ಠ_ಠ

6:44 AM
I can't I love him ;_;

@phase I bet his CSS code is shorter than yours!

2 days ago, by El'endia Starman
Tabs are good!

THIS IS FACT

I'll note: 8 stars on that message!

8?

6:45 AM
Tabs are worthless and everyone knows it
People are born hating tabs

@phase Whats wrong with it?

@quintopia Click on the "2 days ago" link.

@RetoKoradi I just import Bootstrap

1 min ago, by Alex A.
@phase He uses tabs. :/

@AlexA. I didn't ask you >.>

6:46 AM
@El'endiaStarman it definitely says 9 :P

@Calvin'sHobbies The fact that you have to ask that question makes me wonder how you go through daily life without knowing how much pain you bring to the universe with your formatting.

hahaha

har har har

@quintopia :D

@quintopia booooooooo

6:48 AM
@AlexA. Tabs are the whole reason I was able to write such a short quine for Aubergine. It is the lowest numbered printable character.

@quintopia Wait what? What character code is it?

@quintopia isprint('\t') tabs are not printable ASCII

@quintopia But in normal programming, tabs are the devil

6:49 AM
@phase sure. in practice, i use a single space for required whitespace when golfing.

@AlexA. In Blitz 2D/3D, you can't do \t for tabs. You insert a literal tab in the string. Yes, that tab changes size depending on where along the line it is.
Normally, I like tabs, but that's silly.

(I'm not opposed to tabs on principle, but it's too much work to get most editors to display them as only a couple of spaces wide.)

@AlexA. Dennis uses tabs for his HTML too ;-;

@phase Dennis uses tabs for everything but Python, where he uses 2 spaces.

@phase I'm honestly curious. Is the tabs? The fact that every bracket is on a separate line? The newlines between elements? Those seem like pretty tame "issues" that are really a matter of opinion.

6:51 AM
Phase's opinion is supreme law

the doctor is in!

@Calvin'sHobbies I'm just joking, Dennis' code is my bible

You must be a sinner then, given your aversion to tabs. :P

oh no tabs can die

\o/

6:53 AM
let's have an argument about something more polarizing than tabs
gif or jif?

GIF
It's a file format, not a peanut butter
God damn
(Yes, my opinions are strong and I have them about many things)

peanut butter or peanoot butar?

The g stands for graphics, therefore gif

I see that we have started to abuse stars again!

it's not jraphics

6:55 AM
what about gauge then?

jif has a long tradition. like how jiggawatts preceded gigawatts as the "correct" pronunciation

one g is g other is j

@Calvin'sHobbies Giraffics

@Optimizer gauge is not an acronym

graphics is not either

6:55 AM
gif is

then dont give example of graphics to justify gif vs jif

No matter how GIF is pronounced, I firmly assert that RegEx has a hard G.

no

nah

"Rejex" is how I say it

6:56 AM
nope

Rejex

it sounds too much like "register" to be said that way

rejister

'zackly

Now now. It's reGular but reJister.

6:57 AM
can't we clear the confusion and replace g with j where it sounds like that ?

@AlexA. Their creator named them after the peanut butter on purpose. "Choosy moms choose Jif" ... "Choosy developers choose gif".

pronunciation is totally more import than programming

#bikeshed

@El'endiaStarman ಠ_ಠ

*projamming

6:57 AM
yes. so if it were RegUx, I'd agree that it should be hard G

@ChrisJester-Young #huh #what

his bike is shedding its skin

@ChrisJester-Young #wombatbait

This settles all

6:58 AM
its an yearly phenomena

@Optimizer gif = graphics interchange format, graphics has a hard g, therefore so should gif. That was my point

@AlexA. That was in response to phase's comment about pronunciation being more important than programming.

@Calvin'sHobbies YOLO -> the last O is not pronounced as W like in once

@Calvin'sHobbies So "JPEG" should be pronounced, how? "jay-feg"?

@ChrisJester-Young I know, I just don't know what "#bikeshed" refers to

6:59 AM
Choosy developers choose GFY (which is obviously pronounced "jiffy")

@Calvin'sHobbies Yes

Noun: bikeshedding ‎(uncountable)
  1. Futile investment of time and energy in discussion of marginal technical issues.

@ChrisJester-Young Oh nice! TIL.
