7:00 AM
@AlienG A cube where each edge is cube_root(10) units long.

@AlienG a cube

Okay, so, let's say the tip of your index finger is the first segment. The second segment is usually about an inch long. Your 10cm^3 cube would have sides slightly less than an inch.

@Hipe99 No a 10cm cube would be a normal cube but what about a 10cm^3 cube -.-

Anonymous
@AlienG 9-cube

I mean a side length of 10cm^3

Anonymous
7:02 AM
9-cube

Anonymous
Hypercubes

@AlienG No such thing. Dimensional analysis...

Ok, then I'm not going completely insane.

Anonymous
hypercubes

"Length" is always 1-dimensional.

7:03 AM
hey all!

@TanMath Great timing!
What does a cube with a side length of 10cm^3 look like?
@Mego or is it a 1000 * 1000 * 1000 cube?
.-.

Anonymous
@AlienG That's way too simple.

@AlienG uh... isn't it a cube with volume 1000?

You'd think... But hypercubes (@Mego)
So then what about 10cm^4?

@AlienG oh.. that is what we are talking about, huh?

7:05 AM
Ask pretty much any scientist and they will tell you that 10cm^3 describes a normal cube with a volume of 10 cubic centimeters.

Nononono a cube with a side length of 10cm^3
Not a 10cm^3 cube (As I terribly stated before)

so this would be a tesseract?

Probably.

4 mins ago, by El'endia Starman
"Length" is always 1-dimensional.

(You know I'm tired when I bring things like this up)

Anonymous
7:07 AM
@TanMath A tesseract is a 4-cube

Anonymous
This would be a 9-cube

Well, actually, a cube where each edge is a cube is not a 9-cube.
A 9D hypercube has, I think, something like 72 8D hypercubes.
A tesseract has 8 normal cubes.

Well if each unit would be cubed then... more dimensions?

A cube has 12 edges. If each edge was a cube, that'd be a 4D object.

Anonymous
Oh wait duh it would be a 4-cube

7:10 AM
@AlienG You should write 10^3 cm instead of 10 cm^3

Anonymous
Because a 4-cube has 12 faces that are cubes

@PhiNotPi no..

Anonymous
(I think it's 12)

@PhiNotPi Then it would be a cube with the side length of 1000 (Too easy)

@Mego Eight, actually.

7:10 AM
@AlienG no.. it would have volume 1000000000

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman It's far too late at night to remember stuff like that

^
I'm at that point.

Picture the stereotypical 6-square cross-shaped 2D net that you can fold up into a 3D cube. You can do the same, but one dimension higher. Ta-da, 8 cubes!

@El'endiaStarman I'm having fun revamping all my internal data structures. So glad I wrote unit tests

@Sp3000 Unit tests are a really good idea that I just never do. :P

7:11 AM
@TanMath Logically. (Duh)

Anonymous
my head hertz

If I put together all my unit tests I have half of Minko's interpreter's length (gasp)

Anonymous
@AlienG why did you have to bring this pain in here

@AlienG but you said it has volume 1000

@TanMath Re-read my comment.

Anonymous
7:12 AM
@TanMath cm^9

Maybe I'm dumb, or maybe just very tired. But I just wandered in here because I was "Code" and thought I could provide some input...now I'm just left wondering what code-golf is.

@Mego well, you are too weak.. My head is perfectly fine...

Anonymous
@TanMath This is that being an ass again

10^3 cm would be a side length of 1000 (volume 10^9). 10 cm^3 would be a volume 10 (side length 10^1/3). I'm not really sure which you are talking about, or if it matters.

@AlienG oops..

7:13 AM
@TanMath To be fair, I did edit it.

@MichelfrancisBustillos We're just being off-topic. Please, feel free to ask your questions.

@Mego what.. it was meant to be a funny insult..
@AlienG cheat!

ugh

@Mego ok.. I am sorry.. In many SE communities, they do this funny insult thing.. so that is why I did it.. I thought you guys do it as well...

it could be 1 minute
or 10 days

does that mean I cannot ask you a Seriously question?

ohhh, and here i was think it was playing golf with the 900 printouts of code revisions that are covering my floor. Thanks @Sp3000

@TanMath We do funny insults as well here. The point was, that wasn't funny.

7:15 AM
@Mego ok.. sorry...

I'd like an example :3 @Mego

7:16 AM
@AlienG Typically you shouldn't call someone something that they haven't already called themselves

@Mego So then I can't call you "Mego"?
Well... Shit.

@MichelfrancisBustillos (Assuming that you are completely new to code golf) Well, technically is type of programming competition that involves writing the shortest possible program to complete a given task.

Anonymous
For example, calling @quartata an idiot isn't very insulting, if you're referencing his famous starred comment

@Mego Fair enough.

hello mega weirdo -> mego

Anonymous
7:18 AM
And saying that is not only acceptable, but correct

(it is meant to be funny, just so you know)

hmm, sounds fun @PhiNotPi so long as anyone still uses QBASIC, though I suppose I could use C++ for you young folks :p

Anonymous
@TanMath This is why the ignore button was invented

;_;

@MichelfrancisBustillos There have been answers in QBASIC!

7:18 AM
@Mego wait, you ignored me?!

I think that, at this point, very few languages remain to be answered with. ... Well, relatively. I think.

7:19 AM
@El'endiaStarman That's our irrational justification for making more

@Mego He's a college student? Well, I'm older than he is!

@Mego so you have ignored me? :`(

I started with a 286 and DOS, which shocked everyone in my class (who are all MUCH older)

@TanMath I was also threatened with that at one point too. You are now using my boat.

@AlienG I have had this happen to me before.. well then, I guess I will not learn Seriously...

7:20 AM
@AlienG That's a variation of "We're in the same boat." that I haven't seen before.

Might as well put him on ignore as well...

@TanMath, are you a native English speaker?

@El'endiaStarman I had to think about that one for a few minutes since it's so late.

@El'endiaStarman again?!

@TanMath I don't recall asking or seeing that question asked to you before.

7:22 AM
@El'endiaStarman this is the third or fourth time I have been asked this question.. I wa asked this in Biology.SE and also here..
What makes you think this?!

You miss out on a lot of subtle social cues and mannerisms.

if you put mego on ignore, the avatar makes him look like a sulking penguin!
@El'endiaStarman true.. I realize that..

And I say this, speaking as a deaf guy and someone who has some traits of (high-functioning) autism, so I have some difficulty with it as well.

@El'endiaStarman Then why have I never been asked that?

He's a sulky penguin anyway @TanMath

7:24 AM
@AlienG I've considered it, actually. :P

Not surprised.

My apologies for any offense.

@El'endiaStarman wow, life must be tough.. I applaud you.. You seem to have accomplished a lot..

I think that when people understand one another better, it makes it a bit easier to interact. Like not taking certain phrases as insults when they weren't intended that way.

@El'endiaStarman it's ok.. I know why people think as such..

7:26 AM
@El'endiaStarman I've heard much, much, worse.

Why are we not funding this?

@TanMath I'm coping with it pretty well. Excessively well, actually. :P (As in, I didn't get financial aid from vocational rehab because I hear too well [with cochlear implants].)

@PhiNotPi I like that!

@AlienG Better safe than sorry. :)

7:27 AM
@MichelfrancisBustillos I'm not a sulky penguin! I'm a penguin that has run out of patience from a day of dealing with toddlers

@El'endiaStarman If you're doing better than me, then you've done (at least) more than slightly above average.

@AlienG what has happened to you?

@TanMath LOTS of people hate me :D

@AlienG why?

@Mego ...Mego. You saw what I said about understanding one another, right?

@TanMath That's a big topic. (That I currently don't have time for)

@Mego Looking pretty sulky to me HA, naw I understand. Taught programming/robotics for elementary and middle school for the summer. Kids are draining

@AlienG ok.. I won't get into your personal stuff..

@Mego Okay. Just seemed rather too in line with earlier statements...

@El'endiaStarman I was attempting to steer away from that conversation

@MichelfrancisBustillos The oldest kid I dealt with today was my nephew, who is 2.

@AlienG O_O..

@TanMath Makes a new account to ask

7:39 AM
@PhiNotPi Also, interestingly enough, from what I remember (with a brain that should've been unconscious 3 hours ago), secession is totally prohibited. By the Constitution, I think?

Now that Mego blocked me, I can say that many times Mego is insulting...

Once upon a time SC was a beacon of "states rights" and "honorable society"

Or rather, it's not enough for a state to declare that they seceded. The others have to agree.

Very true, @PhiNotPi

No clue, if that helps.

7:40 AM
@AlienG where is your new account?

@El'endiaStarman isnt there a UN thing that lets states seced

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman It's not prohibited by the Constitution per se, but the bloody war that erupted last time makes it pretty clear that it's not a good idea to do it again.

@TanMath It's called "Neil A" (Alien = Neil A) to mess with @AlexA.

@AlienG hahaha!

The UN has no control over states @Hipe99

7:41 AM
@Mego That much is true.

@AlienG I am pretty pretty sure @Mego blocked you...

@TanMath Meh, who cares at this point. I'm to tired to realize what really happened. I'll comprehend that tomorrow.

@AlienG Though it would not be a great loss to lose Florida, I think it would be better if they didn't try :P

@El'endiaStarman Yeah, I've had few cool teachers -,..,-

That's comforting. I see programming as more of an art. I am decent in math, and problem solving, just not the type to want to sit and crunch numbers. I'd rather write a program to do it for me

7:56 AM
Well, me too...
What, did you think math was nothing but crunching numbers?

@El'endiaStarman I credit my early teachers, but in a different way. Their teaching made me want to learn more on my own, because I was so incredibly bored in their classes.

No, I know its more, just everything after trig seems more like magic

But yeah, there's definitely a lot of interesting stuff in stats too.
@Mego That works too. (Though, certainly, less than ideal.)

@Mego I was that way in my programming classes in high school. thought myself three classes worth of material in one. Teacher gave up half way through the year and had me teach

@Mego Statistics is sometimes truth but how marketing presents it is always lies. So marketing is lies.
