8:00 PM
Simplex, 4 bytes, R1Vn
sighs

@feersum Yeah that works. I doubt there is a much neater solution.

What does R do? :D

Move right?

It goes right in the strip ^_^
@Hipe99 GG

@Hipe99 /me claps.

8:01 PM
There are so many ways to do this in Simplex:

10Vn, I'd assume.

OH WAIT
:D
I forgot output is implicit now in Simplex
so it's Simplex, 3 bytes, R1V

/me claps more.

Or RnV or RIV or RMV

I? M?

8:02 PM
If I make 0/0 = Infinity, then it's just V :P
@Hipe99 Increment and decrement.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ NaN. ;D

@VoteToClose change ze rules :D
I'll just have c set byte to infinity :P

(this version was made after the question was posted...)

c;

technically the language was made after it was posted ;)

@Dennis Is "not outputting anything" the same as "outputting an empty string"? re:

8:06 PM
I just realized the star button had a hover text: star this message as useful / interesting for the transcript

/me claps.
That's why everyone hates star spam. >.>

Because nothing said in chat is Useful or Interesting?

...pretty much.

I've got some bad news.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ so does the unstar button: unstar as interesting

8:08 PM
I've figured out a format for the redstone assembly but it needs a 2-byte header.
4-byte if you want layers larger than 256x256

@Hipe99 not for me :P

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ when you click the down-arrow.

@VoteToClose What? It's the best I can do.
It's pretty damn clever, actually.
> best abuse of truthy/falsy output
FTFY

@Hipe99 Huh.
щ(ºДºщ)

8:10 PM
@quartata Not possible in MC anyways. /fill and other commands (/clone, etc) will not go above 256, no matter what.

@VoteToClose No, I mean if you want a construction larger than 256x256xinfinity

/tp @e ~ ~ ~

Are you suggesting that ∞ > ∞? c:
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Does... literally nothing. Except lag the crap out of everyone connected to the server.

The two bytes are essentially grid dimensions.
The parser takes those, reads the next x numbers and places them in a strip. It repeats this until it has y strips, then turns those into one "layer"

You should encode the numbers in a way that their length depends on their size, sort of like UTF-8.

8:12 PM
Then it moves up one.
@feersum I don't see how that helps, ELI5

@quartata fixed-size?
You could just pad it out by default

@Hipe99 ?
Oh I see what you mean.
Per the scoring rules I'm basing this off the program has to be a cube anyways
So no you can't make the leaning tower of pisa
Merely its bounding box.

I'm looking for a name for a framework that sounds equally stupid as ".NET".

.WEB

@mınxomaτ How about .GNU?

8:15 PM
How about "XD"

@mınxomaτ .IO

DotGNU is a decommissioned part of the GNU Project that aims to provide a free software replacement for Microsoft's .NET Framework by Free Software Foundation. Other goals of the project are better support for non-Windows platforms and support for more processors. The main goal of the DotGNU project code base was to provide a class library that is 100% Common Language Specification (CLS) compliant. == Main development projects == === Portable.NET === DotGNU Portable.NET, an implementation of the ECMA-335 Common Language Infrastructure (CLI), includes software to compile and run Visual Basic .NET...

Also github.com/yoursuggestion should be free.

@TimmyD The actual output is the same, but I guess there's a "philosophical" difference. That's why I included the 14 byte version as well, which actually leaves an empty string on the stack.

Dennis really ties in the other intellectual sciences into code golf.
> The Philosophy of Code Golf - Dennis

8:22 PM
I though I'd give the github project name generator a try and the first word it generated was the German word for "prostitute" >:(

@VoteToClose that could be a book title.

@mınxomaτ Seriously?
I just ran it and got Cocker

@mınxomaτ I got this, but I skipped through it.

8:40 PM
crickets chirp

They do indeed.

@VoteToClose censorship!

has anyone here been playing Human Resource Machine?

not me.

Rather conveniently, any block in Minecraft can be represented with one unsigned byte.

8:43 PM
@quartata ?

This makes my job easier, since it means I don't have to pick stuff.
@VoteToClose Since there are <256

Uhh...

@quartata pick stuff?

@Hipe99 Yeah. Like pick specific blocks to support.

8:45 PM
@quartata ah.

Still trying to port my chatbot over to java.

Not making much progress though.

@quartata Direction? c;

@VoteToClose Per Conor's scoring rules that would have to be another byte anyways
Oh I just noticed something

8:47 PM
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Conor counts air blocks as 0 bytes
fak
I can't do that.
Guess... I'm... making my own scoring method.?

@quartata yes, now go post it.

@Hipe99 Lemme finish the assembler first.
@VoteToClose Positive X = North in MC, right?

@quartata East. Negative Z is north.

@VoteToClose Ah, OK. That makes more sense.

8:59 PM
No, it really doesn't. XD

Wait, Negative Z is north? Not positive?
Oh, you know what?
That's because that's Java's coordinate system.
Down is positive

the z-axis indicates the player's distance south (positive) or north (negative) of the origin point—i.e., the latitude (source)

I don't know how this works but it is hilarious:

Q: Reformat copy/pasted code to proper C like syntax

PulgaDISCLAIMER - My first question, please delete if duplicated. Any thoughts on this, agree/disagree? v
in Discussion between Mego and Peter Taylor, 5 hours ago, by Calvin's Hobbies
@Mego I'd argue that "built-in" cannot be well defined. e.g. your Gamma challenge forbade built in gamma functions. Suppose in my language the gamma function really just calls two other functions, negativeGamma and nonNegativeGamma. Do those count as built-ins I can't use?
(and subsequent comments)
