@aking1012, so I think what we've got here then is "is there a workaround for this bug?"... so we close questions directly about bugs, but asking if there is a workaround is ok?

i've previously somewhere on meta alluded to something similar (i think it was in relation to impossible questions: i want a video-sink to mess around with skype or some such that doesn't exist)
agreed on both counts. also, i think saying his keystrikes are limited because repeat rate is limited is grossly inaccurate. i would imagine repeat strikes could go over 100/min

@aking1012, ahh... I gather what he's really getting at is that it is limiting how quickly he can scroll... which you really should be doing mass scrolling with pgup/dn instead of lots and lots of one liners

@EliahKagan Well, from the user's perspective and tags, looks like from Python using that device node...and that Netchip thing actually looks like a USB hub/controller, not a USB device per se
The simple answer to black screen on LiveCD is - `nomodeset` ...upon first bootup is `nomodeset` and install your `nvidia`/`nvidia-legacy` drivers. 99% of the time it's an Nvidia/Optimus gfx card involved.

I have an Acer laptop with a Intel GMA4500MHD graphic card, after the installation of Ubuntu from an alternate install cd I get only a black screen after the grub selection pages.
I tried something in this page and I still have the problem. I have tried with Debian testing and I have the same pr...
if it does not, well, then we've eliminated the network management software as the cause
that's how i run, diagnostic-step prior to posting as answer
because more than likely the diagnostic step doesn't actually solve the problem, but can lead to another (especially with network cards and graphics cards and stuff)
(you should see how many "my wifi doesnt work since upgrading" things we get on IRC XD)

The other option is to register for an online course or something for a semester at your local community college, and get a subsidized copy of Windows that you can still legally use after you're no longer a student.
