Hrm, this doesn't look good.
Now I get "Stack Overflow is currently offline for maintenance".

We are currently mitigating an attack. Standby for updates.

lol joel

@Lucio hello
:)

just when I was quiting :)

@NathanOsman ^^^^^

2:03 AM
What did I miss?

Tim
SE is being DDoSed maybe?
See the tweet

posiblemente

Tim
How can I install software from a newer releasse?

@Tim If you find an IRC client that properly minimizes to unity's indicator panel let me know!

Tim
but trusty only gives 3.10
@Seth I'm trying :P

Q: Are there any IRC clients that comply with the human interface guidelines?

r3blIs there any IRC client that's compliant with elementary's human interface guidelines? If not, is anyone trying to build one? Note that I'm asking for an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client, not a general purpose chat client that supports 10+ chat services.

2:04 AM
@Tim wily is on 3.16.

@Tim Why still 14.04?

@Ravan How did the test when??

Tim
@Zacharee1 LTS

> that comply with the human interface guidelines?
LOL

vivid is on 3.14.

2:04 AM
Can someone give the command to upgrade to 15.10? I always mess it up

do-release-upgrade

Tim
@Seth yeah, can I install that package on 14.04?

sudo do-release-upgrade
@Tim maaaaybe. It works for standalone things, but with a library you can blow everything up..

Tim
hmm okay

and seth fast fingers won

Tim
2:05 AM
will run in VB then
@Lucio The eOS design... It seems like a load of nonsense tbh
:P

@Lucio fastest fingers in the west :P

lol

Wow, this is turning into an extended outage.
And they disabled CloudFlare.

@Tim lol? eOS is very close to OSX.

Tim
@Seth yeah very close. It's like Open source OSX
with some weird choices
@NathanOsman next n00b round - how do you know they did, and what does cloudfare do (or is meant to do)?

2:08 AM
Well, for your first question:
We're aware of the @CloudFlare issues and are disabling them now.

CloudFlare prevents DDoS in most cases
It can also provide cached versions of websites

^--- and that's for the second part of the question :)

s/prevents/mitigates/

^--- good point

Tim
Ahh okay

2:08 AM
(I'm the arrow guy today :P)

Tim
lol thought you were doing some techy trace routing etc :P

Nope :P

He taught well.
@Seth continuing with the foss marathon
ga.me OMG

We are deploying a mitigation shortly, hang on.

I could have lost my childhood play with this

2:17 AM
gtg

Rolling our mitigation now, ETA < 7 minutes.
7... 6... 5...

Good night!

Tim
o/
I think I'll go sleep now
@Seth relay was a dead end, it requires a non existent package even on 15.10...

Q: Problem installing linux after formatting the old linux partition

Jayesh VI used to dual boot win8 / linux 14 LTE, and i updated 14 LTE to 15 stable version via terminal and it never worked after that. It would get stuck in the boot screen stating kernel panic not syncing: Attempting to kill inint ! so i booted into windows and i have two partitions 30GB (where i ...

@Tim :/

Tim
2:23 AM
so i could install all of elementary i guess...

you can just install the DE.
We are back online and monitoring all systems.

Tim
@Seth hmm okay so relay needs a libray that only 15.04 + has. It also needs a package called "elementary-theme" than only 14.04 has so...
Can I download a package from a ppa and install it?

wait
this program requires elementary-theme?!

Tim
yeah
there are 3 ppas, and none work on 15.10
anyway, i should sleep now tis late

sounds like a bad developer..

Tim
2:33 AM
goodnight all

@Tim later!

Tim
o/

I'd just move on program wise..
That thing, if you can get it to work, will probably break on every release.

2:50 AM
oooh, the Piano Guys are going to be in Vancouver in May...
I just need some $$$ :(

WUT.

?

@Seth Vancouver is a nice place :)

@NathanOsman I'm sure it is! I'm just not quite sure what that has to do with my previous statement :p

If you come for the Piano Guys, you'll get to see the city :)

3:04 AM
ah. Yes! I doubt I will get to be there though.. No passport, no car, no place to stay...

Oh, you guys need a passport to come up here?

That or an enhanced drivers license, which I refuse to get.

Passport is like $80 iirc D:

I checked a day or two ago and they're about $120 for five years here.
Though I can get one for ten years for $160.
...or something like that.

3:07 AM
Wow, your highway speed limit is 80km/hr? That's slow.

@NathanOsman Ouch! Is that CAD or USD?

There are parts of the highway here in BC that allow 120 km/hr.

@NathanOsman Might not be accurate, although I'm reading that off the US embassy page..

@Seth CAD.

3:08 AM
@NathanOsman That's nice.

Most of the major highways here are 100 or 110.
Anything with "highway" in the name and streetlights is usually 70 or 80.

really? must be either an Ottawa thing or just old.

@RPiAwesomeness you are using tabs in your Python app which is a clear violation of PEP 0008 :P
(I almost fell off my chair when my text editor flagged nearly every single line of source code as a style error.)
:)
@Darth_Vader yo.

sup

3:28 AM
Not much.

@Fabby please provide me a auto (custom) message requesting OP for more information-in polite way..

3:42 AM
I use tabs.
And I'm going to bed :P
on second thought.. that's not the best thing to say in a room full of programmers right before bed..

@RPiAwesomeness sent you a pull request for the tab order.
1 more pull request to go...

4:11 AM
@Lucio exam will be tomorrow :)

kos
4:48 AM
@Seth I use tabs too. Serious folks use tabs, not spaces. And now the chat is on me :D

5:37 AM
Morning and great @NathanOsman :)
Morning all :)

@A.B. Morning.

kos
6:02 AM
Morning @A.B. o/

He @kos, how are you?

kos
@A.B. Not bad. It's just morning :D you? Everything fine?

@kos yes :) and+1 for your perl way

kos
@A.B. Upvoted yours, souravc's and 200_success' posts already. Obviously It's not important however just for saying, it looks like OP doesn't actually have spaces judging from the source: askubuntu.com/revisions/34229438-839c-47bd-93be-ae89381adca2/…

7:06 AM
@NathanOsman Sleep well
@Tim Morning =)

7:27 AM
@Fabby ? at this time?

7:41 AM
@A.B. morning =)

Morning @Ravan =)

8:04 AM
Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! **;-)** Could you please give us a bit more information like: what version of Ubuntu you're running? What the error message is? Please [edit] your question and add this information... Then leave a comment @Fabby.
Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! **;-)** Could you please go to a terminal by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][T] and type `lsusb&&lspci`. Then [edit] your question and copy-paste the output of the command into your question so we can see what exact hardware you have. Then leave a comment @Fabby.
@A.B. I was having a job interview... ;-)
(on the phone)

@Fabby At this time? Cruel =)

@A.B. Cold call...
>:-)
:D

kos
@Fabby I wasn't agitated though! >:| and you weren't neither

Indeed! I wasn't neither!
I think he expected someone to hand him a magic wand that he should wave and all would be well....
:D

kos
My bad. You can do that silly construct in Italian.

8:14 AM
@kos Yeah, also in Flemish...

kos
Indeed, what they're asking is not something simple nor safe.

@kos And providing very little information.
If he would have posted the history.log since he installed the system, we could have done it for him, but I'm not willing to do so...

@Fabby how good are you with Nagios?

We answer querstions: we do not actual work....
@A.B. Nachos: extremely good! Nagios, not so.

=)

@Fabby Ah, great, thank you. I heard of Icinga

kos
@Fabby It looks like OP clinged on not installing fresh, but that's the easier solution. I agree it might be boring and time consuming to backup configuration files not in ~/.config, but stating they are important like they're doing should also imply knowing which they are. How do you state something is important if you don't know what it is? It's either laziness or fear of missing something. I understand the second one, but not the first one.

He, they have a PPA

@kos :D
@A.B. yup!

And a great documentation

8:30 AM
@NathanOsman: since the StackExchange Status script I've lost the ability to up-arrow to edit my blabbering over the last 5 minutes: I can only edit the last one...
(bug or feature?)
test

kos
Mind to vote on this? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/267990/…. It has been two weeks and no one even commented.

upgoated!
(reading now)

kos
@Fabby Thanks. Tell me if I'm missing something, because I'm surprised no one noticed that before

@kos tip: Drop by the meta chat room in the evening... There are always some developers around and start talking about this there.
1/ It'll get you upvotes (as in the chat room your total score is shown)
2/ It'll be talked about and then it gets higher priority.
Got solved in like 30 minutes!
I just pinged everyone in here and in meta and the dev jumped all over it...

kos
Hah, too bad there's not that feature anymore
Anyway you're right, thanks, I'll drop by there and ask there. If you didn't read yet however skim to the second case if you want, it's more blatant in that case

8:38 AM
@kos I read all: I'm not surprised no one ever noticed!!! Eagle eyes!

kos
Yeah, I don't know neither how I even noticed. :D
Neither! I know!

What's your Myers-Briggs type?
Intuitive I guess... :P

kos
@Fabby Never tested, but I like those things.

kos
I'll do that later though I just realized I'm so late!
Cheers everyone! Later @Fabby!

8:46 AM
Ciao!

hg8
8:59 AM
Good morning!

9:09 AM
@hg8 o/

9:42 AM
Icinga?
> There is currently no icinga instance writing to the IDO. Make sure that a icinga instance is configured and able to write to the IDO.

hg8
@Fabby Your comments are far better than the pre-written comments.
@Fabby Can I use them...?

10:17 AM
Can someone help me here, please? askubuntu.com/questions/642648/…
I need that a directory automatically is owned by root:myusergroup and group permissions equal owner permissions for every new or modified file at every time.

Icinga up and running =)

10:37 AM
@hg8 Yes, off course!
Plagiarism is the ultimate feat of recognition!
@A.B. Woohoo! :-)

kos
@ByteCommander Set the GID for the parent directory: chmod g+s dir, that forces the group of new files / directories created into it to be inherited by the parent folder's group

Tim
@A.B. Morning :)

@ByteCommander listen to @Kos -----^

kos
Thanks for the support @Fabby. :D

(if that fails: give both users the same GID:UID)

10:45 AM
ooo, nice system76 has a new laptop: system76.com/laptops/oryx @Seth @RPiAwesomeness
@NathanOsman yay

@kos Same for directories created in it (is that automatically recursive for new directories and files)?
And when I copy something in it, I'll have to set the g+s manually, right?

er, chrome on Android why??? I liked the page thumbnails for my most visited sites

kos
@ByteCommander Yes. No, the group gets inherited automatically by everything you put in it

Great, thanks!

Jos
@Fabby what can I do for you?

10:55 AM
@Jos Was that a joke answer?

@Seth I use the tab button... but the ide makes nice spaces for me ;p

like "how can I do that from my Ubuntu machine"?

Jos
Which was?

:25050240

kos
@ByteCommander Np!

10:56 AM
@Jos the one where the guy asked how to change the settings of his router...

Jos
Certainly not.

(it's just getting into the router's web or telnet inteface and thus off-topic)

Jos
I could see myself totally write a script to turn the Wifi on or off.

@Jos using the routers web interface...

Jos
Yes, it's not specific for Ubuntu.

10:57 AM
I understand!
but he just wanted to know how to use his router's interface! :D

Jos
No, he wanted a script.

He did???

Jos
Read the question. He wanted to do it from his terminal.

I didn't see it like that...

Jos
And I can see the use of that, using e.g. crontab to turn off the Wifi.

10:58 AM
@Jos yes!
lemme read again...

Jos
My real between-the-lines answer was: no you can't, unless the router offers an API or something, or unless you are very clever in writing curl commands.
which I have done for a living, for a while

@Jos Nah... He's a newbie who doens't want to read the manual and wants you to give him the codez...

Jos
I agree. But that is not a nice answer.

@Fabby hello, fdisk -l not listing partitions ?
any other command?

@Jos So that's why it's a joke answer... Perfect! Upvote coming in!
@Ravan parted --list
don't use fdisk any more!

Jos
11:02 AM
@Fabby thanks!

has nu clue about GTP!

@Fabby ok
@Fabby still no output
something wrong in my system, I think

@Ravan No time now. Need to do some admin stuff for myself...
:(

fine
I too have exam

@Ravan Sudo?

11:05 AM
:)
no
not used

ah!
SUDO!!!!

ouch--
yup my mistake
haha
thanks

@Ravan Mail server, unix command etc...

and the ravan comes back stating he typed "SUDO" and getting an error :P
and it is !! not !!!! >:)

@Rinzwind haha lol

11:07 AM
@Rinzwind Mail server, Unix command etc... :P

no @Rinzwind

@Fabby sql server owns both

@Rinzwind If you talk about "SQL Server" you're implicitly implying "MSSQL Server"
@Rinzwind Finger sqlserver.com

nope sql as in the language so if someone likes postgres over mysql fine >:)

@Rinzwind If you talk to 1000 people on the street and ask them what they understand what "SQL server" means, 95% will say "Microsoft SQL Server"
ergo , "SQL Server" = "MSSQLServer"
any other needs to be specified... :P
(anyway, why am I even having this conversation??? :D

11:14 AM
even 1000 people can be stupid :=D

Tim
@Fabby no, 5% will say Microsoft SQL Server :P 94.9% will say "HU?"
To me, SQL is the language, cos the time I use it is for the SEDE.

@Tim :D

Tim
Just like ask people if 1 is prime or not - most people say Hu? Prime? Like as in Prime Time TV?

@Rinzwind If everyone around you, tells you you're crazy, I would go and visit a shrink!* :P

see! me and Tim are educated people :=)

11:17 AM
@Tim It's not.

@Fabby nope.

Tim
No it isn't :P

I am going back to Disgaea 5 >:-D

Tim
Although they changed the definition from "Divides by 1 and itself" to "Has exactly 2 factors"

@Tim Thank you for your input.
@Rinzwind :D :D :D Very good idea!
@Tim That makes it non-ambigouous!
anyway, off to do stuff!

kos
11:25 AM
@Tim When did that happen?
Crazy. Nobody informed me about that.

Tim
@kos when they couldn't decide :P

It's the same thing, no? {1, itself} :D

Tim
@StefanoPalazzo is {1,1} =2?
or is it just {1,1} = {1} = 1?

I see the confusion now. (:

Tim
:P

Q: Tweaking the tripwire policy to stop checking for /dev/pts/x

CbhiheTrying to streamline my Tripwire policy file, I see that I get a lot of chatter in every daily check report about ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rule Name: Devices & Kernel information (/dev/pts) Severity Level: 100 -------------------------------...

kos
@Tim They could have used an ordered set and patch it like that instead of rewriting everything from the ground :D

Tim
@kos yes but I have a feeling most people wanted 1 to not be prime...
Just like 0! = 1

kos
Ah I see. No clue why mathematicians would want that though.

kos
11:54 AM
@ByteCommander As I understand it the problem in the second one is the grey icon, not that Eclipse doesn't start...

@kos But I guess the custom desktop file from the answers of the duplicate question will solve this one as well?
Anyway, BBL.

Q: Import Online Accounts from Ubuntu Settings in Thunderbird in Ubuntu 15.04

AlexanderI have recently configured All Settings/Online Accounts with some email accounts ( personal accounts - mainly yahoo and gmail ). Is there a way of importing these accounts ( their Settings - Email / Password / IMAP / Port and so on ) in Thunderbird ? My system (Ubuntu 15.04): dex@asus:~$ uname...

kos
12:09 PM
@ByteCommander I don't think so, I had a similar problem with a java executable once, he would spawn another grey icon if started from the launcher, I think it's because the main process forks. If it's because of that probably the solution would be invoking Eclipse using Java.

Q: How to see all deleted questions of a particular user?

FabbyI've just run across 2 deleted questions from this user in the last 10 minutes. (Example here and here for 10K+ rep users ) It seems he/she/it's gaming the system and deleting he/she/its questions when he/she/it gets an answer in the comments or when his question is duplicated. How can I invest...

@ByteCommander duped. Looks the same.

12:27 PM
Why says my Icinga http://localhost/icingaweb2/monitoring/health/info > icinga2 is currently not up and running
o_O
IT'S RUNNING
O_o
o_O

@kos Don't worry, be happy.

Tim

@Tim thanks for the edit! (CC: @kos)

Tim
@Fabby that's okay - feel free to change anything back obvs :P
IK some people have the preference for inline links

@Tim what is going on there?!

12:32 PM
@Tim Yeah, like I'm going to re-introduce errors! :P
@Tim and install adblock+ and noscript and set a custom host file to re-direct known ad servers to 127.0.0.1
No more ads! :D

(unfortunately: also no community ads)

Tim
@StefanoPalazzo so one of my extensions that I really love has started adverts

outrageous

Tim
@Fabby I have adblock, although it's disabled for some sites (not this one tho)

12:34 PM
that has to be in violation of chrome web store policy

Tim
It was a currency converter - when there was an amount on $ it showed it in £ - which was useful

kos
Or it's @Tim's subtle way of spamming us.
:)

@Tim and use FireFox... :P

Tim
nice to see how much Microsoft overcharge me here :P

@kos :D :D :D

Tim
12:35 PM
@kos yes, I'm gonna post windows only software ad in an Ubuntu room :P

kos
Well spammers are not that clever usually. But since you are ok, we ruled that out. :D

Tim
:)

@Fabby - re your meta - is the format "user:14356 deleted:yes" what you are after?

@fossfreedom checking...

Tim
@fossfreedom hmm that shows all of them...

12:51 PM
@fossfreedom erm, no as "user:14356 deleted:yes" doesn't give me anything and should at least give me 2...

Tim
@Fabby it shows all non-deleted questions by the look of it...

@Tim yup.
@Tim or it needs moderator access @fossfreedom...

Tim
Could be the latter

@fossfreedom hello, [this](http://askubuntu.com/questions/690722/im-trying-to-update-my-ubuntu-14-04-to-15-04) question marked as dup of [this](http://askubuntu.com/questions/683974/upgrade-directly-from-14-04-3-to-15-04)..
but I think there is no proper answer

hmm - "user:14356 deleted:yes is:question" shows me all my deleted questions (I dont have any) and "user:14356 deleted:yes is:answer" shows all my deleted answers - I have 122 deleted answers

12:55 PM
but @ThomasW. answer here askubuntu.com/questions/691536/… may more appropriate

@fossfreedom user:344926 deleted:yes is:answer gives me all of them...

122 answers?
scrub that
I see 151 answers of yours deleted
