6:03 AM
Good morning :)

@Takkat Morning.

is there a download for Angry Birds?

You can play it offline, if that's what you mean.
Just add it from the Chrome web store.
As soon as you bring it up, it will download and install.

ah I see - saves a lot of bandwith when on mobile then :)

True.
And thankfully it preserved my high score.

6:08 AM
yeah that alway annoys me when high scores and levels are gone as soon as I go offline

I would be devastated because I have really high scores on all of the levels.

:) I'd love to find more time to play.
If I did this here I would never have to work again
Tempting...

"With iOS 5, you no longer need a computer to own an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Activate and set up your device wirelessly, right out of the box."
Cool! That's good for Ubuntu users.

If that was true... is skeptical
Was it so, that you needed to have a computer to own an iPhone...?

@Takkat To activate it, you did.
In fact, you needed iTunes to set it up.

6:22 AM
Oh! Good I never thought of wanting one - this would have seriously disturbed my believe in a world of good people :D
But I admit I installed iTunes those days when I was on XP...
... and missed it a bit.

What I miss the most about iTunes was its store :)
I wasn't too keen on the app itself.

Yeah the store was so easy to browse
Good recommendations etc.

Just the sheer size of the store's selection...
...I mean the Ubuntu One store is nice, but...

On Windows the app was o.k. (lack of alternatives)

...it really doesn't have half the stuff that iTunes does.
And 90% of the content isn't available in my country.

6:26 AM
... and it's hard to find stuff.

(Still waiting for Canonical to fix that.)

only 10% availability? That's bad!

Well... that's a guess.

I am getting things from amazon - at least I can easily access it from Ubuntu
Always having to update the library after a download is a minor drawback.

Are there any Ubuntu Tablets for sale in the U.S.? http://bit.ly/mjU2Qn #tablet

6:37 AM
Amazon isn't available in my country :P

distributed version control :)

@StefanoPalazzo sorry. next python class

@FlackBot lookup Distributed Version Control System

DVCS can refer to: *Data Validation and Certification Server *Distributed Version Control System *Deeply virtual Compton scattering
A distributed revision control system (DRCS), distributed version control or decentralized version control (DVCS) keeps track of software revisions and allows many developers to work on a given project without necessarily being connected to a common network. Distributed vs. centralized Distributed revision control (DRCS) takes a peer-to-peer approach, as opposed to the client-server approach of centralized systems. Rather than a single, central repository on which clients synchronize, each peer's working copy of the codebase is a bona-fide repository. Distributed revision control condu...

@StefanoPalazzo crap, I want my money! ( I was mentioned in the class, I had some questions.)

@StefanoPalazzo damn :(

@Amithkk remember that this doesn't mean we give up our copyright. All of our contributions are still Copyright (the original authors) - all rights reserved. Plus, we license them to you (and SE) under these terms and conditions

we got screwed Alvar

if you modify the content, you get copyright on those modifications as well (logically, as you are the author)

Q: PHP fatal error on Zend when upload local site to live site

AchuI used Zend Framwork with Digitalus CMS. I work with ubuntu for test/developping, the website work perfectly fine there. The problem is when I migrate the website to the IIS production server, I get those errors : PHP Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[28000] [...

Oli
@Achu IIS messes up everything.

@Oli Hi

Oli
Oh god. Why would you chose to deploy PHP on IIS?

i didn't know the host service are using IIS. They just buying without my attention

when did IIS not mess up anyones project?

@Amithkk would you mind putting in my full name? There are a million stefanos :)
(and it's not a pseudonym)

:D :D

11:32 AM
@StefanoPalazzo there are a million Stefano Palazzo's too
I still want a invite
Updated

The trick I was bragging about the other day stopped working :\

Oli
@Achu My personal step 1 would be to find a host (there are literally thousands) that was LAMP-based. WIMP just has too many oddities for deploying off-the-shelf code.
@StefanoPalazzo Which?

@Oli posting a message to your G+ stream, visible only for one user, which you have in your circles

it would send them an invite, but when I tried it with Gigili, it didn't work (it worked for Roland earlier though)

11:35 AM
g+ has a built in user filter ;) Roland was accepted >:D

@Rinzwind Even worse, someone suggests DF -h. Well, I don't have a DF program on my system although I've a df one.. Worst list ever. It's like saying "you only have to tell me your password"

Oli
@Rinzwind Yeah - it's an odd choice of commands. I don't really think you can limit a list of newbie-commands to five. That's like limiting your vocabulary in a foreign language to: Yes, No, It wasn't me officer, The lady with the big maracas, and Beer.

yeah well what do you expect from a "twitter" poll :D

Oli
At least a bit of awk :)

11:42 AM
yeah :D and 'sed'

They should mention man. It'd save a lot people on machines with no internet connections.

@Oli your are right, I know modern host company's are using LAMP. Should i have to tell this for my clients? this situation?

@Achu you may charge extra for this crap and recommend them LAMP.

@Lekensteyn fine thanks ;)

dosent @lucazade gravatar is like @htorque

Oli
11:45 AM
@Achu I think it would probably save you some time immediately and (if they can drop the Windows hosting) it might save them some money in the long run. It's not something you can do lightly though. It's similar to a desktop migration - if they have existing stuff running on Windows, you need to be able to port that across. If that's stuff that requires IIS, you might be in a situation where you would need to keep both hosting platforms at the same time.... Which would be more expensive.
@Achu If that's the case, and they're not happy with it, I'd probably just pick an ASP.NET CMS (it is a CMS that you're deploying, isn't it?) and live with it.

Amith kk.. i'm chenging gravatar atm :P
but it is so slow
* changing
done

Pingme

@Oli Yes I'm deploying CMS. but i don't have experiences on ASP.NET and i don't have a time to digg about ASP.NET I will tell them to use LAMP if they don't i will fire my self.

my brain hurts
if ((!dataFile[problemIndex].equals("")) || (dataFile[problemIndex] == null)) {
i hate using libraries

@htorque shouldn't that be the other way 'round?

11:55 AM
not if you like NPEs

in soviet russia libraries use you

@StefanoPalazzo does python have a variable called null? since u cant just "int a_int;" like java you have to set a value like, "a_int = null"

@Alvar don't do that :) Initialise your names as late as possible.
but yeah, there is something like null, it's "None"
all functions return None if they don't return anything else

@FlackBot flack all

@StefanoPalazzo true, it will get messy if I declare names at the begining with "none"

11:59 AM
but there is a good use case for None

@StefanoPalazzo is there a physics module for python??

lol that is in the whole library

so if u want a search function of a empty search u can skip having a return fuction, cool.

if you define a function with a mutable keyword argument, you should use None instead and then initialise the default. This is because mutable default arguments get re-used when you call the function again
def f(x, my_list=None):
    my_list = my_list or []
(instead of my_list=[])

all they do is if (blabla.length > 0)
no null checks
puke

12:01 PM
@StefanoPalazzo Kannst du, bitte? kurz mal

@StefanoPalazzo is there a physics module for python??

@Amithkk ja?

12:03 PM
@StefanoPalazzo I need to get some allys like UK, USA, France, Russia etc...

@Amithkk what do you mean by that?

@StefanoPalazzo yes/no?

Well, there's SciPy and NumPy, they aren't physics modules per sé, but physicists will use them a lot

@StefanoPalazzo eg we have a math module that has function 'sqroot'. is there physics
@StefanoPalazzo can it do simple pendulum
@Gigili and? in finnish, Right?

@Amithkk scipy.org

Oli
12:06 PM
Physics is just maths. You can use Numpy for advanced maths.

:D yay now python can do my homework

@Amithkk I don't think so. you would probably just write & convert your equations into python. If you need to compute very hard problems, use NumPy, but you probably don't need it yet

takes out handwriting font and airprinter

Oli
Just an advance warning: From Friday evening UTC, I'm going to be AFKing by a pool in France, glass of wine in hand for 9 days.

@Amithkk Not really, left

12:12 PM
@Oli congrats

I'm back

@MarcoCeppi I missed you
no, really i did

@StefanoPalazzo Sorry I missed the classroom - I'm reading the transcript now, how did it go?

Well

@MarcoCeppi quite well! I was slightly short on time (two hours seemed longer than it turned out to be)
but I'm just going to do a second part

12:19 PM
Nevermind

@MarcoCeppi Sara's VPN fixed ? :P

I'm in my new apartment now

Tethered to my phone because the internet guy never showed up

@MarcoCeppi can i ask for free server space and a free domain :?

You can ask, can't say that I will say yes

Ok, Marco can i please have some free server-space and a free domain

@Marco Congratulations (is that right?) on moving, by the way! It must be very exciting

@StefanoPalazzo you dont know the other half of it :P

@StefanoPalazzo It's tiresome. We're not done unpacking yet. I'll have the fully furnished photos up soon

@StefanoPalazzo Looks like the RPG room is having some problems.

I second that, on top of that I want a free car and a free house. Can i haz pl0x?

I'm not a charity worker. You have to give me a really good reason why you want one - and I have to think it's a good idea before I just pay for things out of pocket

nevermind
will call in 28 years

Unfortunately I'm not rich. When I am you can have a free domain.

@MarcoCeppi cool :D

Don't hold your breath though

Oh teh noes. Looks bad for me then? No free car and free house? :D

Rule #5 of AU chat = no matter how boring the chat message if you star it and come back tomorrow one will find more than one star

Which is pretty self explanatory why.

Or you'll find it's no longer starred :)

Also self explanatory why. :D

You mods can do that too?

12:40 PM
No, mods are only blue to look cool. :)

I soooo will be a mod some day

@Amithkk I'm already a moderator... but not on AU ;)

I need to be one for atleast a day :D
@Lekensteyn you are just 4 years older than me??

@Amithkk yep, about that. If you want to have all your posts appear like a mod post, run the next code from your location bar:

javascript:void $(".username").filter(function(){return $(this).text()==$("#active-user img").attr("title")}).addClass("moderator")

Now js to flag

12:50 PM
heh, but only you will see it ;)

I know that

@Gigili I'm sorry?

Don't have any ideas why but there's one in my list with your name!

Well that is my face on the black image there yes. :D
Now I'm wondering myself why I'm on your list.

Same as here, not only now but also it's about 5 minutes and 21 seconds I'm wondering
I don't talk to you even once

1:19 PM
Hmm interesting.
Well nothing bad about talking with me, I'm a nice person. :)
I don't bite or something.

@lekensteyn is the sound mod ready? :)

@OctavianDamiean Never meant that

I know I know, I was just kidding.

I was just kidding, too .. huh

@Alvar a custom upload feature? No. The script? Yes, at stackapps.com/q/2479/6969

1:23 PM
@Lekensteyn very good! :) well the custom upload thing was just an idea. the program works, that's the point at least...

@OctavianDamiean But honestly, why you are in my list? tell me, I tolerate everything

@Alvar preset 3 is very good

@Lekensteyn how do I change it? (do I have to restart the browser?

@Alvar do you know how to install userscripts?

@Lekensteyn it's installed as an extension in google chrome

1:27 PM
@Alvar you need to reload the page for the button to appear

aha
:D
@Lekensteyn I would like to have this one :D
ping me
IT WORKS
I just added the download link! this is a awesome program! gj!

was that an offer for a free domain you removed there Roland? >:D

Digikam is a seriously heavy application to install on a non-KDE machine >_<
@Rinzwind No

LOL
digikam uses mysql!? what for? :X

Oli
As its image database at a guess, but I really thought it used SQLite

mysql is overkill for that

Oli
Depends on the number of photos, I guess.

1:50 PM
@Rinzwind MySQL is a "suggest", sqlite is fine

Oli

Q: Can I Install Digikam without installing most of KDE?

OliI'd like to transition from F-Spot to Digikam because I fully believe it to be a better application for my needs, as somebody who takes and post-processes a lot of photos. The problem is... Well, I think the apt-get output says it better than I can: The following NEW packages will be installed ...

Is there a kernel developer here?

Oli
@Lekensteyn Is it? I tried --no-install-recommends and MySQL is still in there

well could be you get a question on installing mysql
during the install

Oli
1:52 PM
@Rinzwind Blimey, MS are oversimplifying things a bit there: Keep installing system updates and you'll never get hacked. I didn't know Windows update would fix bad website code. Screw Ubuntu/nginx, I'm moving back to Windows/IIS!

that's why I said: challenge. They are asking for it like this :X
it's part of the normal MS routine: "there are no 0-day exploits in windows cuz we do not have any registered 0-day exploits"
keep repeating that... and you'll convince yourself :D
food time bbl \o/

@Oli I found it: digikam depends on kdepim-runtime which depends on akonadi-server which depends on mysql

Oli
@Lekensteyn Why on earth do I want KDE PIM? Dependencies drive me crazy some times.

I dislike akonadi too for its bloat

2:12 PM
akonadi ate my dog

@JorgeCastro What's this edit about? askubuntu.com/posts/51613/revisions

oh, I was doing a whitespace edit
yikes, I messed that up.

Oli
I've rolled it back but it looks like you were intending to do something but got sidetracked. Looks as if you only managed to add some spaces :)

I was just splitting it up to make it readable

Oli
2:53 PM
I see

yeah sorry about that

@JorgeCastro do you know a kernel developer which can guide me on debugging a defunct Fn key?
