because Windows and Mac are both blasphemous
:P

I was hahaing at "^bad at everything"
(you meant me?)

(yeah)
@TheEvilPhoenix i see?

sings: I'm a bad man

sings : I agreeeeee

1:02 AM
lolol

laaa laa laaa

tries to be good for once

watches @RolandTaylor fail

miserably
e.e LyX doesn't look overly confusing... am I missing something?
I was expecting to be completely lost in this interface, but I'm not.

ohey i see my own text on two screens :P
so i can respond with either computer >:)

1:05 AM
I'm supposed to be in bed at this time but I'm watching some users' randomness >:P

you mean your own?

@TheEvil that's just evil.....

@TheEvilPhoenix Mission complete

1:05 AM
she is watching our randomness....

@Roland but I AM evil :P

damn the fireworks are going off anyways
shrugs i dont really care... because its raining >.>

don't encourage me to make it 3 screens
So where do you want me to stick ya? Cuz you're done @Evil

loads up the television stream which has the city fireworks display

1:07 AM
hehe
I'm so lost in terms of LaTeX

I really love to see when you try to make something bold or italic and it failed
@RolandTaylor mine is 17% =\

aw
what is your internet speed like?

512

so my download speed is impacted

-_-...
evil....
@Explorer mine is 1.5MBs

1:11 AM
@Roland what, i'm an evil person :P

if it's like that so I prefer word

(but it acts like 512)
@Explorer trust me, it does not seem worth it :(

@TheEvilPhoenix I saved all of your lines, no worries

@Explorer lol
@Explorer i dont really care?
my speeds have been faster :P
ocrap
low battery >.>

@TheEvilPhoenix You DO care, obviously

1:13 AM
says who?

omg, stop bad news

:D
you guys are so much fun XD

@TheEvilPhoenix not everything needs to be mentioned , especially something obvious

@Explorer the 5 espressos might be contributing to this though :P

1:14 AM
5?
only?

and the three i'm having now won't help any

then the three after that too won't help :P

@RolandTaylor he's drunk Roland, please understand

1:15 AM
hahaha

lies, i'm high on caffeine

@Explorer lol you made me literally Laugh Out Loud
@TheEvilPhoenix if this is you when you're high, I'd hate to see you when you're on withdrawal symptoms O.o...

k I made here as homepage

sweet :D

@RolandTaylor its not a danger... i've usually got some amount of caffeine in my system :P

1:17 AM
@TheEvilPhoenix dude... no wonder you're evil...

evil .. no wonder you're dude

@RolandTaylor i got my evil reputation of evil after being an extremely evil oper on an IRC net...
policy violations == klines and network bans for 24 hour increments

even minor infringements
and i still have my oper xD
oh good the beer has arrived
walks away

1:19 AM
wth
lol

It's 3 am. do you know where my brain is?

@Explorer in your cranium (I hope).
Oh wait, I have it!
Do you want it back?
quickly writes random data to Explorer's brain

lies? you suck more than I do.

lol
I don't feel like giving you back your brain... you will have to sleep without it >:)

did u find anything about my q?

1:22 AM
Well, actually not yet. I'm setting up a virtual machine for it.

wow, thank you thank you

All I found so far is that it will be rather tricky to set up, and all the information is outdated, so I have to work it out myself :(
Every guide seems to be for "Ubuntu 9.10"!

should i repair it to an older version? =\

no way!

please?

1:23 AM
It will probably work on Ubuntu 10.04, it will just take me some time to figure it out
@Explorer I wouldn't suggest that you go back to an older version :S

ah k I wait and thanks again
I sent an email to you too

You're welcome ^^
Oh cool ^^
Yeah he went to get his beer

happy beer!

Hey all.

@GeorgeEdison Yup, it's a nice day.

1:26 AM
@FlackBot: Hello.

Theeere we go.

hi

@RolandTaylor: Do you like my implementation of page numbers?

:D
@GeorgeEdison I have not tested it yet, to be honest :D

1:27 AM
NP.

is that python symbol?

I had a busy day today :P
@Explorer yes

@RolandTaylor Especially since an hour ago

@Explorer lol actually this was the least busy part of my day :P
@Explorer I got your message; added you :)

Shhhh, public public , they'll disappear me

1:29 AM
so excited about 11.10
@Explorer lol no he won't :D
he was joking :D

11.10?

We were protecting your email address
@Explorer Ubuntu 11.10

i saw !

I'm installing it on VirtualBox :D

It's the best version ever

1:32 AM
it sure looks like it :D

actually dont know how other versions look like

Have you tried 11.04?

nope

Oh, you would probably like it :)

you know my taste better =) i'm not comfortable with Linux at all

1:38 AM
That is my desktop right now :)
(don't mind the amount of applications I have running, its not so full of indicators by default)

How classic
(that "S" thingy got my attention seriously)

You like it?
oh the "S" is Skype :D

definitely

cool
You could probably upgrade your Ubuntu 10.04 install (if you feel safe with that)

you should be careful, if a car passes the road you'll lose all of your apps

1:42 AM
LOL
good one :D

I really feel unsafe when I look at it , a car will go to my face soon or later

I should probably find a safer wallpaper :D

That's nice, I love snow

Speaking of snow, I've never seen snow in real life :(

I've only seen snow :(

1:47 AM
lol that's amazing :D
is Norway that cold?

Indeed it is

Hmm... maybe we should switch countries XD
<--- likes ice

no no, cold weather is much better than warmth

Wow, sometimes reading the back log of this chat, makes me wonder about you roland.

@lazyPower what do you wonder?

1:50 AM
Seriously - I do you all a favor and unplug my computer now!

I can answer any questions :)
@Explorer D:
lol

you have a groupie roland

night (morning) all

is it after 4 yet?

good evening @Explorer, have a good one.

1:51 AM
good morning @Explorer have a good rest :D
@lazyPower shh!
@TheEvilPhoenix is not my groupie...

@RolandTaylor mind giving me feedback on a layout?

@lazyPower np shoot :)

The skills part could probably go underneath the blue text
so that the pictures can be brought up
(less scrolling = more stares = more results)

The LFM feed will be moved further down once I put in the personal portion

1:54 AM
cool

theres quite a bit of CSS hackery going on in this layout
if you look at the style sheet, quite a few negative margins and positions, so this will not be foreward compatible with any future layouts i build.

I was just about to say if I only firebug was working with firefox 7

stop riding the alpha/beta wave and use software that works?
:P

XD
you wouldn't believe it, but since alpha1, firefox 7 has never crashed on me
I'm pretty shocked

I had the same results from FF4

1:55 AM
if I open too many tabs in ff5 though....

but tons of users said they had crash happy FF

i must have only snagged the nightlys that were solid.
i did not update every day :P

well as for me, I update every chance I get
btw I like what you did with the background on the site - that is awesome

ty :)
the 01 at the top will change with the sections as you page through them
i havent dropped in that logic yet, not sure if i want to bind it to URL strings or set a static variable in the code behind.
I have no effing idea what i'm going to do with the front page though

1:59 AM
KISS it :D
(Keep It Stupid Simple/Simple Stupid :)

right, but again
no idea what i'll do with it

Use some fancy jquery, with a menu

not sure if i want to bind the latest post titles + twitters + links to my socials or if i want to just plug in a fancy graphic with a slider, or... the list goes on and on

and i return :P

Like, something that drops into place
@TheEvilPhoenix our reason to live has left the room :(
went to sleep at last

2:00 AM
@Roland lol

since i still have about 40% of the blog code to write, i have time to think about it.

oh god there's so many packages to install for packaging >.>

@lazyPower oh cool :D

@TheEvilPhoenix you could always build rpm's and just alien your debs

eww rpms

2:01 AM
thats what marco does

@lazyPower RPMS ARE EVIL!!!!

in such a case, you have no problem using them :D

@RolandTaylor i said the same thing, then marco schooled me on why rpm's are bomb for package building.

(plus, Marco does it)

2:02 AM
and i have to say, since I've investigated it, he's right.

@RolandTaylor the issue is that diff needs to be installed
and its freaking E V I L
and a huge install

I haven't built rpms before, but I'm guessing that it is easier than debs

diff is bomb
but beyond compare pwnz diff (if you dont require terminal diffing)

its a requirement for packaging

i'm fairly certain you could bind it to a different utility

2:03 AM
its one of the things that turns me off packaging
even if it is needed

i'd be one of those schmucks that just gives away the source and says "if you want packages for your distro, build it and i'll link to it"

since people like mr evil phoenix here want to go through all that headache for me, why shoudl I do it? :P

I'd use checkinstall, and check_the_install in production (like bumblebee)

@lazyPower lol

2:04 AM
my humanitarianism does not encompass packaging. nuff said.

two stars in two minutes!
a record!

naw, stef an dgeorge hold that title
they get stars like mad crazy in here
i pail in comparison to their awesome star-power.

well, George is THE man

well the install might be running slowly because (a) its on a netbook, and (b) its running alongside a persistent-USB-image install

about as close to it as we are gonna see at any rate :)

2:06 AM
and Stefano is the biscuits... (substituting for a non_child_friendly_world there - even if it infers awesomeness)

nice
only biscuits in england has a much worse connentation than awesome

crap and it requires postfix >.>

so can he be the gravy?
user image
4

yeah :D - he's the gravy :D
(although in the Caribbean....)
(Gravy was a guy who used to show up at cricket matches dressed in all kinds of madness - needless to say, form followed function)...

hmmm
ok so we have to invent a word for steffano's awesomeness

2:09 AM
LOL
I just thought of Stefano as "Gravy" :D
this won't leave me :D
lolololololololololololololololololololol

I'm glad i was a part of that
even though i'm going to get the ban hammer for it ;)

lol nevah

you know, the sad thing is, my buddy that is a data miner sent me that image. I'm working hand in hand with BOTH OF THOSE PEOPLE.. and it chaps my bum that my library looks like the one pictured, and theirs is about as complex as pictured as well....
and thanks to you roland, everytime i see this, i think of you.

LOL
@lazyPower Oh btw what was it about the previous messages of mine that caused you to wonder so greatly? (and point out my groupie/satellite/:) )

not sure how she feels about that, so i'll leave that out of the public record.

2:22 AM
@lazyPower she?
@TheEvilPhoenix is a girl? O.o
plays dumb

you missed the comment i deleted
;)

throws a live grenade at @RolandTaylor

(btw I thought you were referring to our random exchange of randomness)
@TheEvilPhoenix loool
O.O
a live grenade?
does it talk?

holy crap its been 30 minutes and its STILL NOT DONE installing the dependencies

2:24 AM
and i should probably print the packaging guide... >.>

wth
on your connection and still installing the dependencies?
how big is that?

well...
the dependencies require like... at ton of them...
so...

I'd have passed on that one...

well i need the dependencies and stuff for the ubuntu packaging environment
and this is why normal users dont package shit :P
i'm actually going to create a metapackage and put it on a PPA
so that you can all use it and watch it install everything correctly :P
granted its like a billion dependencies :P
oh good, now its creating the pbuilder environment
oh and the liveUSB is done :P

2:28 AM
...the hell...?

:)... that... is a name (sorry for irrelevance)

lol
no matter... irrelevance is epic
on NOW it downloads everything for the build environment...

I lol'd

THAT'S JUST GRAND!
>.>

why so many dependencies for building?

2:29 AM
well actually this is just pbuilder building the build environment for the packaging stuff
this is how you build your own .debs :P
of course, uploading to a PPA is slightly different :p

Yeah, I figured ppas don't take so much (haven't had anything to upload yet).

hahahahahaha
There are two ways to solve a problem : the drudge method and the lazy method

i'll finish this later
i'm too drunk to do anything :P
4

So, the build environment is for all platforms?

2:32 AM
@lazyPower I like the lazy method

@Roland nah, you need to build for the distro you want to deploy on (usually the same distro you're running).
@Roland it'll be explained in the packaging session

@TheEvilPhoenix lol I'm not sure who's speaking... you, or the caffeine.

i'm headed off

cya dude :D
no more beers for you!

Take it easy @TheEvilPhoenix

2:33 AM
or expressos

happy fourth bud

oh yeah, happy "we get to write our own constitution" - day :D
(I'm not from the US lol, ours is not till November 30)

@RolandTaylor do you know anything about markitup jquery WYSIWYM editor?
Good evening @GeorgeEdison

2:51 AM
@lazyPower no, I've never heard of it

mkay. looking at extending the markdown interpreter on my cms engine to support code. it appears that MarkItUp default uses `'s to quote code. now my markup engine is failing to convert and wrap it in valid XHTML

>_< I would probably get lost trying to fix that lol

its a kind of polluted path to get to the end result but at sub 100ms to receive the rendered result its a fairly fast implementation. :)
that and its OpenSource software thanks to the SO team.

nice!

3:06 AM
11.10 has a guest account login on the login screen :)

@lazyPower Hello.

Hows life mate?

Good...
...StackMobile is being upgraded as we speak.
How are you doing?

wrestling the concept of extending markdown sharp :)

wonders what it would be like to run virtualbox in virtualbox

3:20 AM
not sure that it would work without direct access to the hypervisor, but its worth a shot if you want to see ungodly slow virtualization within virtualization.

XD
I am probably going to just run something light, like menuetOS, inside of an Ubuntu Virtual machine

@RolandTaylor thats like recursively diffing a diff....

@lazyPower lol yeah :D

3:33 AM
GNOME 3 is looking good... except where do I change themes (please don't tell me Ubuntu is going to require us to install GNOME Tweak tool?)

(I'm losing my memory!) Why is only 3.2GBs out of 5 showing up? http://bit.ly/l5EMzd #ram

I am pretty impressed with 11.10, gonna upgrade my system soon if things keep looking this promising

@StefanoPalazzo: I got your Google + invite... I think.
Yup, I got it!
Looks awesome!

It is!
Add me btw (I'm on + already): rolandixor at gmail
Gnome Tweak Tool has options that should not be there.
In all seriousness if they are serious about reaching new users, and keeping existing ones - that is a terrible idea.
o.o gnome-shell won't let me view applications?

4:00 AM
Is Google + still closed for the public?

Cool! I added you.

checks
Hmm, Gnome-shell isn't behaving too well :(

Anyone else want an invite?

I added Joshua, but it doesn't seem to have invited him. How do I explicitly invite?

4:14 AM
Joshua...?
Paste their (Google) email into the 'who to share' box.

You mean the share box at the top (where it has public as an option)?

cool
sleep time :D

@RolandTaylor Goodbye!

good night all
♥ @FlackBot!

4:27 AM
@RolandTaylor I'm not that smart - I haven't learned that command quite yet.

4:43 AM
g'night fellas

5:32 AM
@lazyPower Night.

5:58 AM
Angry Birds can be played offline now.
