@TerryChia have some upboats and a badge
@LucasKauffman Cheers. :P
Better not trigger the script though.
yea I know
@LucasKauffman whoa, @Rory's throwaway hatquestion went reptrain? Unbelievable.
I almost closed it after he got the hat....
@AviD yea well it rep capped me so I got another hat too
@AviD why is it that my more rubbish questions are the only ones that rep-train
10:03
@RoryAlsop because of the way reptrains work.
@RoryAlsop questions to which people can relate will get upvoted a lot more easily
the unwashed masses don't understand the finer points of the intellectual questions. They only like the ones they can understand, feel that would apply to them personally, and/or quickly form an uninformed opinion about.
@RoryAlsop yeah, its no.2 on the not-so-super-collider.
oh lord, @ManishEarth's crap hat question is also up there....
on the other hand, a crap hat would be very cool.
@AviD I would have accepted that decision as correct
10:09
I think we should both get this hat winterbash2013.stackexchange.com/sock-puppet
hahaha
@AviD get the hat, delete the question?
ctrl-F5
didn't @RoryAlsop get the hat, he answered his own question
10:10
and that hat gets granted when you create a crap reptrain.
craptrain.
@LucasKauffman yep
@avid AVI DA MAN
also, apologies to mods for crap train :p
Go upvote my comments. NOW
10:11
@ManishEarth you get to wear that hat.
Why is the llama answer not on top? Soooo.... Many.... Bullet points
I dont always understand why some bounties are offered.
@RoryAlsop what the?
@avi on mobile for next few days :(
@ManishEarth it isn't?
10:12
"Canonical answer needed" WTF? There is a perfect answer already....
@terry link and I can do
@ManishEarth I meant the craphat.
It's at +3, the others at 4
That isn't enough....? — Terry Chia 17 mins ago

on the other hand, a crap hat would be very cool.
10:13
@user2315 Thomas Pornin says otherwise. security.stackexchange.com/a/3213/10211Terry Chia 2 days ago
"Devices and tokens that implement TOTP (Yubikey, Google Authenticator app) are designed to protect the secret key against extraction." - Not true. The Google Authenticator app merely stores the key in an sqlite database. — Terry Chia 2 days ago
@TerryChia I dont get it?
@AviD yes but on a mole? that means he'd have to ... oh, nevermind
@avid THOMAS PORNIN SAYS OTHERWISE
@AviD What don't you get?
Which means everyone else shuts up
10:15
@TerryChia wots up wit all da commentlinks?
because bear
@AviD Oh, hats for upvoted comments.
@AviD how did you get the headphones?
@TerryChia ah. screw you.
@TildalWave plugged in.
@terry njoy
10:16
@AviD yeah, that's descriptive thanks!
@ManishEarth Cheers! :)
I now have two possible rep train qs.
Which posts from TeX are in the multicollider?
@TildalWave that's a kids book
@RoryAlsop I wonder what's the story behind it LOL
people crap?
@ManishEarth none
10:19
@TildalWave no - the mole woke up and found it on his head, but knew it wasn't his - he wanders round checking all the animals until he finds out who did it
and didnt bother washing it off first???
hahaha cute
that sounds like 1st grade logic.
"not gonna take this crap off my head until I find out who did it. "
@AviD nope - he wandered around with it all day
@AviD dude - he's a mole
@AviD You'd wash it off? Wouldn't that be painfully slow? How about shaking it off first, then wash? :D
10:23
and in the book, it is crap? how do they describe that, delicately?
@TildalWave then boil my head.
Ok, now I need a reptrain question.
@AviD doody?
hahaha
brilliant!
10:25
@AviD 'business'
"did their business"
I'm sure the little kids enjoyed this one immensely.
Personally I dont think I would manage to get through it. Not a fan of the scat humour.
haha, "Whodunit"
we should totally have a hat like this one for the winter bash
19 mins ago, by AviD
on the other hand, a crap hat would be very cool.
thats how this whole crapversation started....
10:27
@AviD I never claimed I'm original :P
interestingly, that annoying song has nothing to do with this conversation.
"Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)" is a song by American eurodance artist Scatman John (real name John Paul Larkin). The song was released in November 1994 as the lead single from his second album Scatman's World. Sales were slow at first, but the song was picked up by many radio stations and eventually became very successful internationally, reaching number one in many parts of Europe and charting in Australia, New Zealand and in Japan. Counter to standard practice, Larkin performed the song live on Top of the Pops. It was also used in the popular Good Humor ice cream advertising campaign...
it was about.... stuttering??
@AviD c'mon you don't know it? here:
@AviD OK... sorry, you do know it
@TildalWave ya, I linked it... just assumed it was a rude song. never bothered listening to the words.
@AviD it doesn't really have that. it is more about cartoon pictures showing what "business" different animals do
and guess what - my first rep cap in forever - and it's because of that craptrain question. I feel...violated
5
@AviD it just goes to prove that you can sell any crap in central Europe
actually, there's also Eurovision...
10:33
@ManishEarth I'm disappointed at the failure of your train! :P
@terry well, it is in the hot questions list iirc
Oh well. Like I said, I have a backup that seems to be faring well
@ManishEarth Yeah, just not generating much votes/views. :P
Any easy secret hats I could go for? :P
@ManishEarth 84
HI HO SILVER
10:43
@terry umm, bug avid till he gets you hipster. Or reject a suggested edit to your own post and get I'm not Listening
SOMEONE MAKE AN EDIT NOW!
84? Hmm, maybe it will fare better once there are answers
@terry you can do it via incognito
@ManishEarth Heh! Right.
Rory's idea
@ManishEarth think it was @Gilles actually
or maybe @AviD
10:45
Got a flight in a few, will be offline soon
Oh right
This question is very difficult to answer without more information about the actual setup. The "hidden" machine could be on a subnet that's only accessible from one of the machines which will require you to root it and tunnel traffic through it. — Terry Chia 1 min ago
Upvotes please. :P I think i need 1 more for the hat.
@terry use the api to figure out how many you have
api.stackexchange.com, -> Docs -> /users/comments -> set filter to only score and id, set the site/dates/userids
@TerryChia did that work?
@RoryAlsop The I'm Not Listening one? Yep.
Oh, you meant the comment. Upvote the comment. :P
@TerryChia upboated
10:55
ditto
@LucasKauffman @RoryAlsop Cheers! Should be getting it soon.
which hat is this for?
oh - hadn't seen that one (aside from in Manish's name)
10:58
Ahh - I'm not likely to get one of those in the near future
@TerryChia hmm, why dont I have that yet?
I comment a ton, and everybody always loves my comments.
@AviD Dunno. :P
@AviD What's that about the hipster hat Manish was mentioning?
@TerryChia oh you wouldnt like that.
11:00
@RoryAlsop hey your question is second top on hacker news!! news.ycombinator.com/news
@RoryMcCune what? :-(
@RoryMcCune wholly crap. 3 crap hats for @Rory.
well, :-), but blimming rep train nonsense
If I could get that sort of thiing for one of my good quesions I'd be much happier
Oh well - let's watch it and protect when needed
@RoryAlsop I don't know people becoming persons of negotiable karma just for a hat
sad really ;op
@RoryMcCune yup
11:01
@RoryAlsop hacker news? I think its needed now.
I expected it to be closed by @AviD as soon as I had the hat :-)
ok - I'll do it.
too late ;-)
@RoryAlsop hahaha
Boom! I kicked @AviD and @LucasKauffman to #3 for now. :P
lol - do you get a hat for that mod-sniping another mod :-)
@RoryAlsop well someone did put a close vote on it...
11:02
Welp, that's all the easy hats. I'm getting lazy now.
@RoryMcCune probably Simon
@RoryAlsop @Simon can close things? Since when?
@RoryAlsop ahh is this another piece of hat hunting?
@TerryChia tied. and I kicked them/us, since I granted you the secret hats.
@TerryChia do we not let Canadians have close votes?
11:03
@RoryAlsop Canadians can vote?
@RoryAlsop Oh no. This isn't a Canadian thing. It's a @Simon thing.
hahahahaa
wow, Mr.Peanut@Manish has quite a lead on the board. Maybe I should help @kalina out a little.
I'm running into the limitations of the site I use as my primary Stack Exchange site
shocking.
11:08
I know, right
so get the hat on a different site - it doesnt really matter.
It's not possible for me to get tumbleweed on Arqade when it's this busy
You are welcome to use us.
@AviD yeah... then I hit the problem that I wouldn't be able to compose an on topic question here
or on pretty much every other SE site
yeah, I kind of dont even have a single question to ask here right now.
anime?
11:11
I know nothing about it
I asked one question there to get hello world and it was jumped on instantly, so their site activity is of a level that would prevent me from getting it
same with movies & tv, the only site I would feel I have anything to contribute to
I have no code related problems I could ask on SO atm
they have enough questions per day that it's possible it could be missed
especially if it was something obscure
@kalina yeah, I would imagine any animers would be a bit obsessive.
@kalina your face is obscure
there ya go, had to bring the level back down a bit, all this hat talk is tiring.
@TildalWave thank you, you are sweet. Remind me to return the icons favor.
I'd love to generate some rep on this site without submitting edits
but I have absolutely nothing other than edits to offer you
11:18
I've read all of your top questions and most of them don't even make sense to me
@kalina hehe, if it makes you feel better, some of them dont make sense to me anymore.
I have successfully purged my memory of much of this information.
I don't feel bad about it
@AviD looks even better with the Stallman
@AviD that's just old age
I'm in chat because most of you are alright to talk to
I'm reading an answer, and I'm like "whoa, this is amazing - but I dont get half of it!" Then I notice that the author is I.
11:20
if I were to post on your site it would be forced trivia questions
@RoryAlsop no, I put my memories online, so I dont have to store them anymore. Make more room for porn.
70 rep to go until I rep cap for the fourth day in a row!
@RoryAlsop eh, dont know about that.
@AviD hahahaha
@kalina or have you thought about our meta
and how come the community user didnt get oneboxed?
11:22
@RoryAlsop I tried that with ask ubuntu
it ended badly
they weren't interested in being given the correct answers by somebody who didn't use their site
I edited my way most of the way to 500 rep on there
He made that with LaTeX
LaTeX
@AviD what did I do? :O
Just....wow
@ManishEarth shoulda talked to @TildalWave. He could have whipped up some sweet icons.
@avid not in latex
The q is on TeX.SE
11:28
11 mins ago, by AviD
@TildalWave thank you, you are sweet. Remind me to return the icons favor.
what's this all about then? :D
since when am I "sweet"?
@TildalWave Icons! Endorsements! LinkedIn!
You're not sour like Simon the Lemon
So....sweet
@AviD Ah LinkedIn? OK then, I thought I did something... again :)
It's nice to lurk in the DMZ while on the toilet
@ManishEarth you know there's ways to make lemons incredibly sweet
11:30
@Adnan ok, YOU get the craphat. Please dont tell us about it.
there's some plant that you eat a bit of its fruit and then everything tastes really sweet, even lemons
@TildalWave coca plant?
@AviD hehe no, wait I'll try to find it
Sugar cane?
11:32
@AviD oh come on! I'm sure half of us are idling here while on the toilet, eating lunch, or even having sex.
or ... Synsepalum dulcificum
Synsepalum dulcificum, also known as the miracle fruit, is a plant with a berry that, when eaten, causes sour foods (such as lemons and limes) subsequently consumed to taste sweet. This effect is due to miraculin, which is used commercially as a sugar substitute. Common names for this species and its berry include miracle fruit, miracle berry, miraculous berry, and in West Africa, where the species originates, agbayun, taami, asaa, and ledidi. The berry itself has a low sugar content and a mildly sweet tang. It contains a glycoprotein molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, ...
@RoryAlsop how meta is this meta post? ;-)

Q: Gaming the site for Hat farming

AviDThanks to Winterbash, there are a lot of interesting and fun activities that gain you fancy headgear. Some of these activities are normal use of the site, and some are a bit trickier to get. Some users, in their mad chase of the ever elusive perfect hair covering, have resorted to gaming the ...

curious if that will work on meta.
@Adnan that.... would explain a lot.
@TildalWave I can think of a lot of ways to misuse that.
@TildalWave Maybe that's Bear Grills secret
I'm batman.
@AviD I especially like to leave the DMZ tab while having sex. It's like you guys are sharing the special moment with us.
batllama.
llamaman.
that does not sound particularly frightening.
@Adnan lol, oy.
11:37
@Adnan FTMI
@Adnan hehe, that should have come together with a close vote.
@RoryMcCune F == "far"?
"frakkin"?
"funny"?
@AviD yep or one of another range of potential words beggining with F :)
but I was shooting for far
@TildalWave haha, this quote:
> “She was, like, ‘What did you do to my mouth?’ ”
@RoryMcCune Oh come on! Why?
It brings us closer together as a community
@Adnan are you trying to out Simon @simon here?
11:40
hurhur, "COMMunity", hurhur
@RoryMcCune Not at all
@RoryMcCune I think we need to buy them a gong.
@AviD indeed
Soooo.. I'm the only one who leaves the DMZ tab active while in bed?
Unbelievable.
I feel like I @Simon'ed and @kalina'ed the whole situation
11:43
well, to be fair, I leave it open on one of machines. But in my office, not in my bedroom on the nightable pointed at the bed....
I don't really have an office at my home. My only computer is in my room with the monitor pointed directly at the bed.
Well, I guess from now on I'll start signing out whenever kinky business is anticipated. I don't want you guys to be uncomfortable.
nooo, now whenever you sign out we'll know what is going on.
That will upset @kalina.
Unless she signs out at the same time.
@DarkHorse That's a racist and sexist username.
Also, hey.
@Adnan Really? No other people had said that
11:53
@DarkHorse I guess those other people are weird or something
@AviD I have a packet of these I bought from Firebox.com - they are brilliant. Not for the use you are thinking, but I have tested with vinegar and other weird things
@Lamia Long time no see.
cool!
@Adnan for me it might be an active tab, but it isn't in the same room as the bed? My computer is in my office. Obviously
11:56
@RoryAlsop so either I was wrong about something, or it does not work on meta.
or wait, did you see my email.... ?
saw your email - I will see if I can find one suitable
also, @RoryAlsop your craptrain does manage to bring up some fascinating disparate topics.
@AviD sorry
From plastic surgery to EMPs
I feel so embarrassed
11:58
no, some of the answers really are interesting.
@RoryAlsop Oh you should be
@Adnan Oh, I am
@RoryAlsop You're no better than @Lucas now
@RoryAlsop because of the candles on your head?
@Adnan I disagree - I am 9 hats better than him on this site
11:59
@Adnan ?
and 10th in the world!
:-)
I leave my PC on 24/7 and my browser isalways open
@AviD they are my age. Why don't you have your age on your head
@RoryAlsop Oh I bet you like hearing yourself say that "10th in the world!"
