What is that "manage...ny?" thingy?

@Izzy that was the whole error report via Firebug
I'll see if I can narrow it down

@NickWilde Would be great. The page it occured on was Manage email subscriptions within a company, and you tried to place a comment there?
Step-by-step what you did?

@NickWilde works for me.

@AngeloNeuschitzer Tnx!
2:1

@Izzy I only enable Firebug console after the error I just reloaded an getting a different error (the horror)
last time I just clicked add comment and then 'auto' and nothing happened then looked and saw the error I posted
now I load page and get this:

5:03 PM
@Izzy Whats not working for me is the "user info bar" at the top. It was only sometimes there at the beginning and is now defunct all the time.

are w e still speaking bout that script?

@danijelc No. Again

@NickWilde Please, step-by-step: 1) it was the page I just linked? What exactly are you doing, step-by-step?

@Izzy so no it is like this:

@danijelc the pastebin had eaten parts of it, which was why it didn't work for you. Angelo has it working fine meanwhile. Wanna new URL?

5:04 PM
1. yep that page
2. load page -> error: no element found

yes please

@danijelc try this one: pastebin.mozilla.org/4347597

click -> TypeError: comment is undefined

(411 out of range 38)

@NickWilde GreaseMonkey or Scriptish?

(which firebug claims is in the google analytics script on the page but that doesn't sound right
GreaseMonkey

5:05 PM
Does it give a script name and line number?
@NickWilde I wouldn't put my hands in the fire for that.

@Izzy: you're using Scriptish?

@NickWilde Yes.

I feel that this user softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/users/160/braveterry is writing poor, but not outright "bad" answers. Now before I go and manically downvote them - what do you think?

hmm then I'll try that instead of GreaseMonkey

and it works volia :)

5:08 PM
@NickWilde Angelo is using GM and has no issues. Oh, I just see: So is daniel :)
@danijelc Great!
As for the site-specific settings: Those are currently only possible to make inside the script itself. I didn't yet implement editing this from within the browser.

@AngeloNeuschitzer idk if we start down vote ppl as we dont like the style .. we may go all wrong
well so far is cool, @Izzy gona speed up copy/paste just to direct users how to write on thsi site

@danijelc That's the purpose :)
I will see to further improve it step-by-step.

Okay I'm confused it still isn't working
and it was working
fiddle *fiddle be back soon

And for the bounty hunters, a special sweety: userscripts.org/scripts/show/300869

@danijelc If it was merly about the "style" I would shrug and leave it be. But his As are short and not much more than "That works, heres a link"; BUT they are more than that (even if not much)

@AngeloNeuschitzer oh i see than maybe we start downvote him

I just start down-commenting him. He always gets a link to the same meta post. Using my canned-script, basically :)

See a kind of strange things here i see a lot of such bad answers get up voted and sometimes good ones are just overseen

okay I'm still confused but it is working/element not found is still being spouted but as soon as i cleared my localStorage it is working fine (must have been corrupted I guess.

@danijelc Yeah, that was one of the largest concerns about the usefulness of this site. We should do our best to prevent that from spreading.

5:25 PM
@AngeloNeuschitzer yes see this one

A: Is there any application available to download live streaming videos?

yakatzIt depends a lot on the protocol used to stream the video. At a minimum, you could use a screen capture tool like RecordMyDesktop (easy to find in the Software Center). This is a good how-to. If you are looking for something to specifically capture RTMP (although a lot of streaming sites are mo...

he even goot 4 upvotes
recommending to record screen instead of download streaming video
@Izzy Script works like a charm :)

@danijelc Thanks! Want an update?

yup

oh blimey: we have 4 users with a display name of just 'Paul' so I can't really know who posted without looking

After line 172, insert this line:
` { Name: "[Q]Low question quality", Description: "We will need much more information to give good recommendations here. Please take a look at [What is required for a question to contain \"enough information\"?](http://meta.softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/q/336/185) Then please [edit] your question and see if you can incorporate some of these improvements.", Site: "softwarerecs.stackexchange.com" },`
Then reload the page, pretend to add a canned comment, and hit the "reset" link on the bottom of the box :)
Yuck. Got shortened.
I better upload the entire script again :)

just dont use german pastebin :)

5:32 PM
@danijelc LOL Nah, that Mozilla pastebin proved working, so I use that again :)

@Izzy nice adition

Yuck, error in reset... Try again to get rid of the first ASE thingy: pastebin.mozilla.org/4348126
@danijelc Thanks :) Open for suggestions if you miss something.

@Izzy on long term same of answers here may be useful in canned responses:

Q: Custom close reasons for software recommendations

FlykDue to the unique nature of Software Recommendations in comparison to the rest of the Stack Exchange network, I feel some discussion needs to go into the creation of close reasons specific to this site. What is the point of this post? The issues I want to tackle with this discussion are as fol...

Yeah, there it is! I knew we had it somewhere...
Oh. But the "interesting parts" seem to be removed...

??

5:44 PM
Ah, no, I was thinking of a different one. This one is for Close reasons, not "canned comments".
Nevermind, gotta go now. BBL, and the script will be continued.

kk

@Izzy: the first review comment option is : "Q]App recommendation Please note that recommendations like Is there an app for X are off-topic here (see What topics can I ask about here? for details). For where your question might fit better, you might want to look into Where can I ask questions that aren't Android Enthusiast questions?"
(On here which seems funny - am I doing something wrong/corrupted LS again/do you know why it's doing that?)
I gotta go do RL stuff ttyl everyone

@AngeloNeuschitzer both.
Polls on high quality recommendations
There is no point in enforcing a high quality level if the voting is low quality.

6:16 PM
more than 1/3 of my way to the 'civic duty' silver badge :)

@kalina Fine, then we should focus on other topics and just let every user decide on themselves how they want to design their answers (see the compromise answer meta.softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/a/432/94)
@danijelc No longer :)
@NickWilde WHAT? I thought Display Name was unique!

6:49 PM
@An
@AngeloNeuschitzer well just go to softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/users and type Paul

7:20 PM
@NickWilde Thats bad.

@NickWilde and he got 4 up votes..
thats wrong

7:37 PM
@danijelc The S3 answer looks fine, so why shouldn't he get 4 upvotes?

Do closed questions count in the % answered stats?

@Undo Good question! I would think not.

I hope not

7:59 PM
@Undo no

ok

1 hour later…
9:01 PM
@NickWilde You need to "reset". That should only be shown on ASE.
Btw: New version at pastebin.mozilla.org/4349456
I merged in latest changes from the original code.

@Izzy er reset? how? Clear localStorage?
yep clearing localStorage fixed it :D
looking pretty, thanks

9:22 PM
@NickWilde That would be one way as well, but no: Pretend you want to add a comment. At the end of the popup, you'll find a list of links. One of them is "reset".
I just wanted to VTC with "Sorry, but this question appears to be off-topic. This site is about Software recommendations. Please take a look at other questions, and at our quality guidelines, to get a closer idea."

@Izzy yes, I just voted to close it
plain off-topic is fine

Yeah. Still sent him to our quality-guidlines, just to make sure #D
Even if one could interpret it as "is there X for Mac", it lacks everything.
Didn't we have some collection of "proposed canned-responses" somewhere on meta?

I think we had proposed close reasons but not proposed canned responses
but there's so much on meta, I may well have missed a couple

A search for "canned" returns everything having "can" (urgh, like Google, the search knows better what I want than I do)

the little search engine that could?

9:32 PM
Yeah, that little search box does that already. Busy devs here at SE.
OK, I give up. If anyone wants to propose some I should include in that autoReviewer, let me know ;)
And there we are again: versus . I feel the second a little specific, but considering our "potential growth"...?
How cute: . Yeah. That's what we definitely need... #D

@Izzy is broader, and many monitoring apps aren't specifically about network

9:47 PM
Sure. I was thinking the other way around (whether that needs a separat network specific tag, or should better be using "monitoring" + "networking" instead.
We also have and . I guess the second should be dropped, the first suffices. Or am I wrong?

not sure
there's a limited scope for , but it's a precise tag, so it doesn't hurt

Yeah. If I where, I'd simply re-tagged its only question...

at 400 questions, it's normal to have perfectly cromulent tags with a single occurrence

@Gilles Right. Let's see how it develops. Maybe a bit early to decide. 3 more months, and things get clearer.

Q: Simple versioning for plain-text documents (Linux)

DavïdI would like to identify a simple, FOSS version control system for plain text documents. For more complex (academic) writing, I happily use LibreOffice. But increasingly I find it convenient to write more simple documents (reports, presentations, lectures, note-taking, whatever) in Markdown, usu...

A difficult question
it has all the hallmarks of a good question: a detailed user story, precise requirements
and yet the answer is that any of the major candidates will do equally
we've discussed “there's no such thing” answers on meta, I think here we have a different edge case: “any will do”

11:04 PM
If it wouldn't be for the commit comments, I'd almost mention DAVFS: Auto-commit on save to such a directory...
Yuck. I lack 34 rep today for mortarboard #D

write 9 tag wikis + excerpts
and hope a CM comes in time

@Gilles actually why plain-text?

@Braiam good question. I think would be a better name

mmm... I still don't see in the 3 questions any use for both tags
first is about markdown2html and document conversion, second (the one you linked) about version control, the third has more to do with music and partitures than proper text processing
but that's maybe my biased opinion...

11:20 PM
@Gilles Did already. But usually approval for those comes...after midnight ;)
@Gilles Yeah... ;)
+24 missing... maybe I'm lucky, and in the end I lack 4...
Ooops. Do we want the to stay?
I mean, is it worth creating a tag-wiki for it?

@Izzy as a synonym of or

document management tag, excerpt:
to be used for questions asking for recommendations for proper document management systems (DMS).
wiki:
Document managers track, coordinate and store different digital documents. Also being able to store history, index, and auditioning of the documents.

They are normally made of several components, that serves these most common tasks:

- Metadata
- Integration
- Capture
- Indexing
- Storage
- Retrieval
- Distribution
- Security
- Workflow
- Collaboration
- Versioning
- Searching
- Publishing

Some document managers are also integrated with offices suites, text editors and other kind of document manipulators.
@Gilles "regulat"

11:41 PM
@Braiam whistles innocently

@Gilles regulaT? Oh. Hope the tags are not really named such.
@Gilles Ah. OK :)
(keyboard to small. @Gilles is writing on an old 240x320px HTC Buzz #D)
OK, nevermind. So no tag-wiki for that, instead it becomes a synonym later.

@Izzy no, my butterfly sneezed

45 more rep, and I can review/approve tag wiki edits again... Must be doable until tomorrow.
@Gilles LOL
