One of the dilemmas I face also is what to talk about. My interests range from politics to guns to tech to anime and video games. Not a lot of conversation starters. "Wanna see my Glock?" doesn't go over very well, I imagine.

1. Talk about obvious things; "breaking the ice" is a nice way of saying "I'm interested in you, do I look interesting"
2. Don't be afraid that you will offend people. Do be afraid that they'll think your "too weird" (some weird is generally a good thing, you are after all a geek).
3. Some silence isn't so bad, it gives you both time to think. She's not any "better" at this than you are. Or better yet, she'll yack your ear off and you just have to smile and nod (good training for married life).

@BartSilverstrim the problem is they HATE you when you fall asleep while they prattle on about inane... I mean expound upon the endlessly interesting details of their day.
