yay

Don't get me wrong, I like Star Trek too

00:00 UTC, I can cast more delete votes!

Is it? I thought it was one more hour till it reset
oh, wait
Daylight savings time, you freaking whore

Evening everyone

busy killing things Hello

12:03 AM
Don't worry, we'll be back on US Congress Imaginary "LookWe'reReallyDoingSomething" Time soon enough.
USCILWRDST, for short.

@WesleyDavid Magicka?

So, Top Tip: Don't load a 180Mb HTML table into a 32-bit browser. It crashes
IE64-bit works OK, but FireFox and IE 32-bit just go kabloom

@MikeyB Never heard of it. Looks interesting.

@WesleyDavid It's a blast.

@MarkHenderson Good thing there's x64 firefox now ;)

12:07 AM
@MarkHenderson 180 MB.. HTML.. <table>?

FUCKING CATS
user image
2

@MikeyB @WesleyDavid Literally

@SimonSheehan There is.... where where?
@ShaneMadden Correct

@MarkHenderson That is awful.

12:10 AM
It's the child of an application that was first released in 1983 and has been subsequenetly (and I must admit, quite well) updated for the past 28 years, but unfortuantely some of the techniques they use are, well, 23 years old
@SimonSheehan Ah. I'll wait for a stable release

@MarkHenderson It really should be stable by now.. I've been using Nightly x64 since 8.0 (Now current), since Nightly is 3 versions ahead. No issues, ever
Except having to use x64 Flash for a while, which was in beta forever

I wonder if it will be plauged by the shittyness of IE64 bit (really old javascript engine, and no plugin support)

@ShaneMadden Is that the sierpinski gasket HTML table?
@WesleyDavid Magicka collection store.steampowered.com/sub/12436 Only $10! Sweet!
Oh, and in the current Humble Bundle, Jamestown is a really fun 1-4 player classic shooter. And Gratuitous Space Battles is a fun "build your own ship specs and put them into strategic space battles" game.

Happiness is helping your boss fix something in 3 minutes that he spent a half-hour banging his head against.
3
@ShaneMadden so what's with this account linking bidness?

Argh! You know what really annoys me? When I found out my credit card has somehow been in my browser auto-complete for a site I have ordered something from in over six months... Maybe I am being silly, but why the heck don't be disable auto-complete on CC fields?

12:18 AM
@AdrianK Go to SO, log in with the same user account. It will detect a dupe on the network and ask if it's the same. Say yes, accounts linked.

ah, I'd already done that w/ no change.

@AdrianK unlink, and re-link
there's a m.SO post on it somewhere. But again, I'm busy killing fathers in front of their kids
Oh, I think you need 200 or more rep

Heh. The thread I found indicates that it's not possible.

it's possible...

@AdrianK You just hit 200, they all jumped. Check now.

12:21 AM
yep
you're good now
back to orphaning children

ah. sure enough.

My submission for groan of the day:

Q: Bacula refuses to use available volumes

J. Pablo FernándezI've recently installed a new server and configure Bacula to automatically label up to 10 volumes. Very soon I've got a message that intervention was needed and when looking at it one volume was totally used and the rest in Append mode but not being used. I managed to get that original one into ...

thanks.

"I solved it by obliterating the database"

@JeffFerland Did you have an actual answer to add? It is certainly a poor answer that won't help anyone else.
I bet someone was whining about him having a low accept score at some point so he just accepted things.
I think the visible accept rate encourages accepting poor answers more then it should.

12:28 AM
@Zoredache Well, before he posted his own answer to that, it had no answers... thus no affect on his accept score?

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean knew that at the time.

FreePBX why must you take so long to pull a dhcp request :(

@Jacob indeed. Much like my x3550 database servers taking 5-6 minutes for the RAID ROM to do its black magic during reboots. Makes me nervous, it does.

@AdrianK Yeah, Thats why I love VMs, quick reboots

I had a customer once that had our database app installed on one slice of a SUN E25k with a fiber connection to shared storage 200m away. They couldn't understand why they were unable to process the 1M+/hour incoming file count.

12:43 AM
@AdrianK Have you ever Installed Exchange?

Nope. We're a Linux shop.

@Jacob Turn back. No good can come of this!
(That's not entirely true. I'm just wary do to nearby incompetence.)

@84104 ( Prerequisite check) Nice I see that you've fix this, now let me check this... OHHH HELL I NEED DESKTOP EXPERIENCE QUITTING NOW!

@Jacob Uuh, exchange doesn't need desktop experience...

@Jacob I don't understand.

12:48 AM
I have only ever installed Desktop Experience once, when we had a client who wanted their terminal server to look like Windows Vista

@MarkHenderson For Unified communications it does

This sounds like another one of those things I'm glad I don't have to deal with.

@Jacob Somehow I really doubt you're going to need Unified Comms... Not only is it crazy expensive, it's really only for people with hundreds, or thosuands, of users, and use a full microsoft integrated suite for their telephony, etc
It also requires close to a degree for itself to get configured correctly

Anyone here use Bacula and know it well enough to say how well it would work for backing up Windows Laptops that aren't always connected or tuned on, and are usually wireless?

@ChrisS haha, welcome to the backup operator's worst nightmare. One of our developers, her husband is a backup administrator at HP and whenever I see him he's always got some story about trying to backup off-site laptops that are never on a wired connection
The short story is you don't bother with bare metal restores, you stick to the minimum acceptable, like my documents, excluding *.mp3; *.avi; *.mp4 etc etc
That way for those 60 minutes when they ARE in the office you have at least some small chance of getting a backup of stuff that actually matters

12:52 AM
@MarkHenderson Yeah... I guess my frustration is that at work we use SC DPM and it does a pretty good job (my only complaint is that it doesn't have connection throttling built in). Really hoping to find a cheap/free alternative that I can use at home to help structure my own laptops backups.

@MarkHenderson Yeah I think I can set FreePBX to Email on a voice mail anyway, The less I need to config in Exchange the better.

@ChrisS You actually like DPM? First time for everything ;) I threw it away (well, it was only a technet trial) because it didn't support external hdd storage (for off-site hdd storage)

@MarkHenderson We use LTO4 for taking backups offsite. I'll give up tapes when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.
I only "like" DPM because I've used things like CA ArcServe and BackupExec...
Getting it free because we're a MS partner may help too...

@ChrisS Yeah, our LTO4 died :( Hence why we swapped to 2TB USb drives for off-site
I do however have a few tb worth of tapes for it in a box somewhere
I just can't wipe them to sell them

I could probably setup rsync.. I'm just thinking there's some project out there that's already done this and I'm not aware of it.

12:59 AM
@ChrisS We're still on rsync here. I set that bad boy up when I was a noob in the early 2000s. We're still using it.

A month or two ago I dropped a tape on my way in the door at work, kicked it all the way to my desk... Try doing that with your fancy removable hard drives =P
@AdrianK I'm sure you're not the only one. =/

@ChrisS My paduan's supposed to be researching replacements when he gets back from a holiday in the UK.

/cough padawan /cough

@ChrisS At about $50/tb, try matching that price with your fancy tapes :p

@Holocryptic Did that word even come up in episodes 4-6?

1:03 AM
@AdrianK maybe once in Episode 4. Can't recall right now.

@MarkHenderson $40 = 400GB tape... So roughly double the price.

@ChrisS Far out, we pay 2-3x that much for tapes in Australia
We also say things like Far out, which I'm fairly sure stopped being cool in the 1990's

Everything costs more down under.

@MarkHenderson 80s

@Holocryptic I'll look tonight. If it's in there, I'll accept the correction. Ep. 1-3 don't exist as far as I'm concerned. Lucas was dead to me after he changed around who shot first in the Cantina.
2

1:04 AM
In that case we're also quite behind in the times :p
Speaking of which, what's this Y2K thing I've been hearing about?

I think that's Y2K38 now...

@MarkHenderson GTFO /grumble kids /grumble

@ChrisS See; behind the times again!
@AdrianK omg ffs it's just a goddamn movie

@AdrianK If it was mentioned, it would have been in conversations Obi-wan had with Luke, either before or after he died

@MarkHenderson You obviously haven't met my son. He's 10 and only loosely aware that Star Wars isn't real.

1:06 AM
@MarkHenderson HAN SHOT FIRST, DAMMIT! IT'S A CHARACTER DEFINING MOMENT!

@Holocryptic LUCAS DISAGREES

my best friend's son is about 2, and runs around humming the Imperial March all day

@AdrianK No I haven't met you son. But seriously, it's just a movie

Star Wars isn't a movie. It's a way of life.

Oh gawd

1:09 AM
:)

@Holocryptic I don't think Mark's been to a SF convention either.

@AdrianK Uuh no... mainly cos we only have one of them in Australia and it's a bit rubbish
We don't have anything like Comicon, but if I ever go to the US I will be aligning my visit with comicon

Let me just say for the record, that my trips to Blizzcon were amazing each time I went. I love conventions like that. But I'm also a nerd

The last time I went to Norwescon there was a very large young lady bouncing past me in a full-coverage white bunny suit with a fluffy tail. She was at least 5'10, which made it pretty impressive.

@AdrianK ... is that tall? Or not? Whats impressive about the height?

1:14 AM
Then throw in another 15" for the ears and that she outmassed me by a good 30kg. That's a lot of bouncing going on.

@MarkHenderson 177cm

@ChrisS If you can afford it, I would look at Crashplan for something like that. If it is for your home systems, use it...

Rob uses Crashplan. See how he likes it

Right. The only thing I know in imperials is that my wife is 6'2", so that's kind of my yardstick

that's pretty tall
@MarkHenderson That's like, 2 yardsticks

1:17 AM
Yeah, I hadn't noticed ;)
My son is only 18 months old and he's in the 97th percentile for height, at daycare he's about the same size as most of the 2-year-olds
So I'm preparing myself to be the shortest person in my family, and I'm not exactly short (180cm)

I'm a bit on the short side... about 171cm

And to top it off, at 6'2" my wife is the shortest of her siblings
So I'm screwed

@Zoredache I would, but I 1. don't completely trust "cloud" storage, especially when I have a perfectly good home server in the basement with all the storage I could need. 2. would like to back-up to tape periodically (yes, I'm crazy like that).

Gnite gents. Time to hit the pub.
2

later

1:21 AM
Night

Anybody know what I'm missing here?
@MarkHenderson @Holocryptic Cough cough ^^

not sure. Killing things now. You're trying to install the AD tools?

@Holocryptic This is just the readiness check

Ok. So have you installed the AD tools? What version of Exchange are you installing?

@Jacob - google and detailed log files are your friends in these situations ;)

1:33 AM
that too

@Holocryptic I fixed it, it doesn't like where I selected to install services/roles auto.
@MarkHenderson I couldn't find anything on Google Error 1004 is couldn't start or something to thay effect. :) Anyhow it's fixed it

@Jacob Generally installing things to their default location is the smart thing to do, unless you have a very good reason to change it, because it makes following documentation much harder because you have to keep reminding yoruself that it's not in the folder they say it is

@MarkHenderson No it was a checkbox that said install needed windows roles and services automaticly, I guess it didn't need to intall anything

@ChrisS Crashplan isn't cloud-based, or not exclusively cloud-based. You can backup from any machine on your account to any other machine on your account
So you could make your backups to a disk on your home server, then backup the crashplan store to tape, if it makes you feel better.

You don't know what OSes it supports off hand do you?

1:44 AM
Linux, OSX, Windows.
I have used it on all three, The windows version uses VSS. They are supposedly working on BSD port at some point in time.

Hrm.. Sounds interesting, at least a little.

It certainly seems to work really smoothly. You can use the local storage version without paying anything.
So at a price of zero to try it out, it sure seems like you should consider trying it.

I think it also supports solaris

So are you a reseller or something... Do I need to get your referral code?

No, I just really like it.

1:50 AM
I'm running it on my personal systems. I'd be running it on the office systems if we weren't downsizing

Solaris isn't interesting... Linux is as FreeBSD can run most Linux binaries.

I have found it extremely useful over the last 6 months on my desktop to restore things.
I am seriously looking at the Enterprise version right now for our Laptops at work.

2:01 AM
Love the comment to this answer:
2
A: Why is this file hidden when you run ls?

Florin AndreiYou may want to fsck that volume.

2:16 AM
I have to say, I really like Crashplan. I threw an extra drive in my work desktop and backup some of my phone stuff to it. The initial sync sucked (all 70GB worth) but otherwise it pretty much Just Works.

@ScottPack You forgot the (TM)

Had the price been any better my boss was just about to spring for real professional copies for everyone in the office. So we could use it to backup our desktops.

2:52 AM
@ScottPack OOohhhh so like Backblaze but works on Linux? Sweet!
Although I must say, the people they chose to represent the OSes look a little stereotypical:

3:11 AM
I sort of have it running on FreeBSD... So far I just popped up a Linux Bash and installed it, did the standard headless install. Only hang-up is selecting a directory to backup to in the GUI hangs at "Loading..."
If I can get past that it certainly looks like it's going to work.

@MikeyB How is it even possible to have an upper arm that skinny?

3:27 AM
Vegan.

@WesleyDavid Hiptser
Also, how is that cute girl stereotypical of Windows users? And why is the Mac guy so much of a creeper? I thought they were just assholes.
2

And why does the Linux guy not have a beard
Wait sorry that's the BSD guy

That's Unix guys... Not Linux dweebs.
2

I think the OSX guy has a mental impairment... hence the OSX position

@MarkHenderson We have an old BSDi die hard on staff. I should find a picture of him.

3:30 AM
As enlightening as this conversation may be, I'd like to call your attention to the "vote to close" room just long enough to look at the most recent submission.
It may be the best example of "not constructive" that we've seen in a long time.

You want us to do something vaguely responsible?

Pleas eplease please please tell me is't the one in the mod queue

rolled back

How does a 1 rep guy keep editing?

One can only hope that the mod doesn't see the rolled-back version and wonder what I was complaining about. ;-)

3:32 AM
@MarkHenderson Sorry about that.
I flagged it before I realized it was a destructive edit

You're not the only one, Scott.

@MilesErickson - that is fantastic though ;)
Don't worry I saw it

@MarkHenderson Feel free to mark that as duly helpful but don't actually delete. :)

Problem solved

<applause>

3:34 AM
I don't think that he will be bothering us for at least the next 7 days

So was someone approving those edits?

@ScottPack - you don't need approval for modifying your own content

/me sighs

But he is vandalising othe rpeoples posts

I just realized that but didn't get to delete it quickly enough.

3:36 AM
I just rejected 4 vandalism edits from this guy... how many rejections does it take to send him to his room? If he really hasn't slept in 48 hours, he needs a time out before we make good on his request for some good lovin'.
Wait... never mind, sounds like he's already under house arrest.

@MilesErickson Damn straight, I've been itching to sinbin him for a while

@MilesErickson I don't know if I want to give him good lovin'. He sounds like he has intimacy issues.

he finally gave me a reason

@Holocryptic Point. Let's add him to the Strangelove queue.

3:43 AM
Holy crap, Solarwinds bought DameWare LLC for 40 million: ir.solarwinds.com/…

Ok, which one of you pissed off that Daniel O guy?

whats he up to now? he should be suspended

@jscott Who? Doesn't sound familiar

@jscott Probably @TomO. You know how much of an asshole he is.

Oh? Good work gents. :)
Sorry, flagged some posts and popped in here without reviewing the transcript. Looks like there was a smack down before I even logged into chat.

3:46 AM
@MarkHenderson I just flagged an answer of his

@jscott Luckily he wasn't very active. A couple of rollbacks and flags and he's good to go.
@Holocryptic The one about hiding programs from 'w'?

@Holocryptic Thanks

yeah
should be good

me too

@ScottPack yeah

3:48 AM
Interestingly, searching serverfault for the word 'fuck' doesn't return as many hits as I expected.

The irony of me flagging a post for being offensive is not lost on me, I assure you
3

According to odata, there are 26 posts on SF that contain the fuck word

@Holocryptic It's not so much that it was offensive, just that there's so many better ways to time a string of all caps "FUCK YOU!"s

Even more interesting. Searching for the word 'cocksucker' produces no results but does show a picture of Al Swearengen.
@MarkHenderson Using the site's built in search (with non-mod/10k tools) you get 9.

@ScottPack I think it uses whole-word search, on odata you can do LIKE queries so you get "fuckton" and "fuckload"

3:54 AM
@MarkHenderson I hadn't thought of that. Excellent!

I expanded it to include shit, which gives about a hundred more

Using google I got 40.

(I think a few of them are mine)
@ScottPack Google gives a lot of dupes because the question can appear in snippets and previews as well

@MarkHenderson You're a dupe.

@ScottPack Don't make @MarkHenderson dedupe your face
He'll do it

3:56 AM
Nice

Well I shall dedupe myself and attend a meeting now

Indeed. It's past my bedtime.
Although, happily, checking in caused me to find the wikipedia article for Al Swearengen. What a lovely fellow.

@ScottPack Wait, are you me? I was reading the Season 3 summary on Wikipedia and wishing there was another season or 4

@jscott God I hope I'm not you. I've seen your face. All bloody and nasty.

4:01 AM
Ha! I've heard chicks dig scars. Amirite!? Come on... anyone? Is this thing on?

I love gaming.SE. Love the first answer to this question:

G'day

Hello

8:12 AM
Got to love web filters... just tryied to google Get Head TCP.. Came up with some good results.

Dan
8:55 AM
Morning
I'm basically only here to say I just ordered this:

http://www.bluenile.co.uk/diamond-search?pt=sig&filter_id=0#diamonds_pid=LD02236762

Wish me luck on Christmas day!
3

@Dan good luck

Dan
@Iain Thankies :)

Can you pick up the diamond or are you relying on the post/courier ?

Dan
I'm relying on Fedex :S

good luck

Dan
9:07 AM
but they are promising an in time for Christmas delivery. Thanks

@Dan Good luck...I'm guessing this is not the core part of some Jame-Bond-Style Superlaser?

Dan
@tombull89 Well, it wasn't

Dan
9:39 AM
The moment when a remote server you've rebooted starts pinging again is always comforting

If it was, he wouldn't tell you
or if he did he's have to kill you

10:12 AM
@t1nt1n curl -i -X HEAD wibble.foo.local ?

@Dan Good luck ;)

@Dan Woo. You gonna propose, or are you using that to cut the glass on a jewelery store robbery on christmas day?

Dan
@TomOConnor Haha! I'm going for the proposal!

@Dan How long have you and your partner been together?

Dan
@TomOConnor It will be 4 years in March. So, 3.5ish

10:16 AM
@Dan A valid time period. If you'd said 2 weeks, I'd have gotten shouty.

morning all y'all. And Dan... wow... good luck :-)

Also, build your own ring! What a neat website.

Dan
@TomOConnor Haha, we've been living together for 2.5, too, so it's all good
@TomOConnor Yeah, it's really good actually. Works out FAR cheaper than a jewellers for a better guaranteed ring. The nice thing is I can choose to send it back to take part in the build your own for no extra cost. So they don't penalise you for not deciding straight away

Blimey.. 12.5C diamond. £876,021 I'd rather have a rack of blades.

while i am no expert on diamonds, that looks like an impressive one

10:18 AM
@Dan So can you send it back to upgrade to a weeding ring later on?
wedding

Dan
@TomOConnor Well, the wedding ring is separate but we could send it back to get a matching band and engagement ring (With said diamond), yeah

I have to say Crashplan are pretty good at customer support. I tweeted them to say how much data I was uploading and how long it was going to take so why didn't they offer their disk uploading program in the UK and they got their tech support people back to me with some tuning for their client that has reduced the backup time to a more palatable 25 days

Dan
Holy wow!

I'd be happier if someone gave me this, when it comes to diamonds.

Dan
Haha!

10:21 AM
Y'know, function over form.

Dan
I did offer her a set of drill bits last time we were in B&Q

yeah by default its apparently designed to back the heck off using your connection to a trickle unless the connection is idle, which is great for sipping updates to a large backup set but not so good for establishing it in the first place

Dan
@RobMoir Yeah, they need an "Do it now, and TAKE EVERYTHING YOU CAN!" button

yeah they have one, its just hidden so that people who don't understand it won't find it
and then complain that crashplan broke their interweb connection

I've always been a fan of those sintered Tungsten rings. hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/6702708/men%27s+tungsten+ring Gold on me looks terrible.

Dan
10:23 AM
I can see their dilemma

that does look smart @TomOConnor

Dan
I like that - just don't buy from Samuel whatever you do#
Although to be fair, actually, £100 is pretty good

@TomOConnor I wear white gold because I don't like yellow gold

its not bad

Dan
I don't wear anything and I@m trying to avoid having a wedding ring to be honest

10:25 AM
@Dan Bwaha. I wouldn't. Last time I got to the jewelery buying stage, I found this gorgeous little boutique shop in Brighton's Laines.

"I want to marry you but not wear a wedding ring" would be a way of telling most women you haven't had enough arguments lately and you wanted to fix that right now.

Dan
@RobMoir She knows I don't do rings. I don't mind owning one too much, but I can't see me wearing it. She knows the deal going in!

@RobMoir "I don't want a wedding ring, I'll settle for one of these for me"
A microchip implant is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of a dog, cat, horse, parrot or other animal. The chips are about the size of a large grain of rice and are based on a passive RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. The use of externally attached microchip devices such as RFID ear tags (piercings rather than implants) is another, related method commonly used for identifying farm and ranch animals other than horses. In some cases the external microchips may be readable on the same scanner as the implanted style. Uses and benefits Microchips have b...

yeah. I'm not big on rings myself
lol tom

I'd like it in my forearm, and programmed with the details of my oyster travelcard.

I'm desperately trying to find a professional looking article that gives a legit reason for deleting the terminal services certificate to fix it. It's fixed, but I could do with something nice to send back to the client

I wonder if i could convince my vet friend to microchip me.

@TomOConnor and then get a suitable RFID doorlock

Dan
@TomOConnor Somehow, that'd be ace. You should RFID it with your car and house

a lot of religious types think that implantable chips are the mark of the beast

we have one of these for our cats

Dan
10:30 AM
@RobMoir Even more of a reason for me not to go to church
(Not that I currently have an RFID implant)

@RobMoir I'd say that y'know, having sex with men probably works against me in that regard too.

on that note, I have to get my ass in gear. It's my nephew's birthday and he's apparently looking forward to a hug, and more importantly a present, from his favourite uncle.

@RobMoir On which note? You're going to have him microchipped?

@TomOConnor that just means you get a first class ticket to hell instead of economy class like the rest of us.

Dan
10:32 AM
@RobMoir Aw!

Or you think he's a woofter?

Dan
@TomOConnor I laughed more than I should have done

@Dan So did i, to be fair.

I should have him microchipped. The little bugger keeps popping up whenever me and my brother are trying to talk about him

@Iain I went with Platinum.

The term shock collar is a term used in order to describe a family of training collars (also called e-collars, Ecollars, remote training collars, Zap collars, or electronic collars) that deliver shocks of varying intensity and duration to the neck of a dog (they can also be applied to other places on the dog's body) via a radio controlled electronic device incorporated into a dog collar. Some collar models also include a tone or vibrational setting, as an alternative to or in conjunction with the shock. Others include integration with Internet mapping capabilities and GPS to locate the d...
The gift that keeps on giving.
Sorry. I'm in a very silly mood today.

@TomOConnor I said "the gift that keeps on giving" to a friend the other day, and they came back with "what, AIDS?"

@tombull89 Bwahah. No, that's the gift that people keep giving.

Dan
@TomOConnor I read that as "a family training collar" and thought, "that must be a fun house"

@Ward I'm going to upgrade to platinum some time. I swim a lot and the chemicals they put in the pool water dissolves the palladium plating off white gold rings

Dan
10:43 AM
@TomOConnor Hey, you studied at Brum?
(E-stalking)

@Dan Yep

Dan
@TomOConnor Cool - did you live up here?

@Dan Yeah. 3 years in Sellyoak, then a year and a half in Bordesley.

Dan
@TomOConnor Ooh, Bordesley - friendly :D

Dan
10:47 AM
@TomOConnor For real? WTF?

yeah..
bit of a cheap area.

Dan
Full of dicks, apparently
No pun intended.

@Dan where'd you study?

Dan
11:02 AM
Study?
:D
I got kicked out of Sixth Form, spent 12 months at the local Tech College (Which, actually, I really enjoyed) and then went and got a job in a school! Like most IT folk, though, it was a massive hobby before career so I was pretty ready for work when I started

@Dan Why'd you get kicked out?
Did you hack teh gibson?

Dan
Nah, I was just a disinterested lazy fuck :D
It was a mistake going - i just went by default as it was attached to my school

@Dan Fair enough.
I dropped out of uni because it started to bore me.
then i managed their HPC for a while.

Dan
I don't feel that I lost out due to my education, but I do wish that I'd have taken the opportunity and enjoyed it more because I'm always trying to educate myself now
@TomOConnor As a volunteer, or did they give you a job?

@Dan I got a job, for 3 months while the head admin's leg healed (he fell down some stairs)
or something.

Dan
11:10 AM
That's not a bad gateway in :D

@Dan Yeah. Worked pretty well. and was a lot of fun.

11:35 AM
o.O

Dan
@TomOConnor Too much effort, there

Found it on Twitter.. Weirdest thing ever.

A: What precautions should I take when joining my virtual center to Active Directory?

pauskaI agree with voretaq7 - there is no reason NOT to put vCenter on a AD-joined server when you have the option. A word of advice though - vCenter behaves bad if you mess around with service accounts etc. I'd strongly consider reinstalling vCenter (and all it's children) if you're planning to join ...

loosing my patience soon..

@pauska walk away - you've answered the question

12:41 PM
Great. So my daughter has been asking to, and enjoyed, watching The Princess Bride. This is good. She's been asking questions like, 'Why was he tortured?' and 'Why did he throw a knife into his chest?'
I'm fair struggling on how to explain such things to a toddler. :-/

or should it go to SU
or close it OT ?

I would just close it. I think it's a bit of a crap question.
"How do I host websites, yo?"

12:56 PM
just leave it
it's a valid question, no matter how "noobish" it is
